Thanks for the replies. It doesn't affect myself because I recode all
music files in advance to prevent hick-ups as the server is busy with
other processes, and I have in fact not had any complaints from people
referencing my package, but I don't like loose ends.
I'll save you the trouble reaching out to Ralphy. I got the details in
a Private message earlier this week:
"In addition to the alac changes we have support to start playback at a
specific time (-j and -e switches) and read files from stdin."
So 3 features:
- ALAC support
- Begin playback

The source for the modified faad2 is 'here'
The main difference is that the modified version includes ALAC (Apple
Lossless) decoding and support for stdin.

Intrigued by this topic. What is the exact issue with system supplied
faad2? As far as I can see LMS does not pass any parameters to the CLI
frontend that are not supported by the regular faad2 (version 2.10.0).

That is correct.
I do not know why freshports has a last update as 2021-05-06. AFAIK the
port hasn't changed since it
Thanks for the information, HansS.
My experience is with other Open Source communities, and I conclude that
certain nomenclature is a local dialect thing. Indeed, a "port" in the
MacPorts community is actually a software package.
When I search the official ports tree with string,

What is FreshPorts
FreshPorts lists the changes made to the ports tree. If you wish,
FreshPorts can email you when your favourite port has been updated.
FreshPorts is not the place to report errors or request changes. You
should do that on the FreeBSD Ports
Thanks very much, Hans.
I am new to the FreeBSD community. Can you help me understand the
difference between where you did your work, and this other "FreshPorts"
port that shows up when I google search on "logitechmediaserver

Hello,
For an update of the FreeBSD port to version 8.2.0 see the following bug
I created some time ago.
'Bug created to update LMS to 8.0.0 and beyond'
This port also compiles the modified faad2 binary.
Attached the port version
Hi Mike,
What you say makes perfect sense.
The living discussions and documentation that the Forum provides enables
preservation of knowledge, and answering questions. The corpus of wiki
pages for LMS got to be too big to maintain. Curation requires
resources, and if the resources are
@mherger: Am I right in believing that the current heavy hitters in LMS
maintenance prefer to keep everything documented in
forums.slimdevices.com, rather than going back to the wiki model?
The model is way less important than the maintainers of the
documentation. The problem with the old
Hello Ben, Hello Michael,
My husband and just spent the weekend getting LMS up and running on our
new TrueNAS. We got a BIG leg up with Simone's Wiki page, 'Logitech
Media Server and FreeBSD/FreeNAS' (https://audiodigitale.eu/?p=87).
To repeat what I said in the Forum thread,

Thanks for the reply - I don't know why my original post is no longer
showing on the forums. I tried to edit it to add links to things I was
mentioning (which was not allowed in my first post for anti-spam
reasons). But it seems to have disappeared entirely.
I'm sorry for the confusion: it was

Hi Ben,
while I have no clue about FreeBSD, I'm going to try to give some
answers anyway.
- Which version of logitechmediaserver should I put in the ports tree?
The main wiki page provides a link to 7.7.5, but the GitHub account
has branches for 7.7, 7.8, 7.9 and 10.0.
Go with 7.9.
Hi Everyone,
I am a FreeBSD ports developer, and would like to update our port of
squeezeboxserver 7.5.4, and rename it to logitechmediaserver. The goal
is to make it possible to simply install the latest stable release with
a simple "pkg install logitechmediaserver", and then start it with
