Thanks so much for your help Greg. The custom option for ALSA output level fixed the issue of the output reverting back to 50% on reboot. I can confirm that its an issue with HDMI in v1.19. I decided to reimage the microsd card from scratch (which fixed the issue of squeezelite not starting).
