Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Squeezeboxserver, Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic, and MySQL

2010-01-10 Thread owlyph

I tried the suggestion of changing to the testing repository, and
upgraded (now at 7.4.2 - r2975), then switching the repository back to
stable. I'd just like to confirm that it was a helpful suggestion as I
no longer get the dependency error messages and everything seems to be
working fine so far.

Thanks.

Just a different upgrade/maintenance philosophy. A common strategy in
the open-source world is to keep up-to-date on stable releases. What
you're doing is being a little more cautious, figuring that the REAL
stable is stable + a few months of bug fixes. What do I get? A bunch
of new features sooner. Plus a few issues to work out, but I'm OK with
that. My experience with ubuntu distro upgrades has been OK, and every
one has had fewer problems than the previous.

I also use kubuntu and the kde gui is very pleasant to use.

 Weird.

I think the problems also apply to mysql-client as this has been a
problem for me. It goes like this (i think!). SBS has mysql-client-5.0
installed so when the Kubuntu upgrade sees this it would remove SBS. If
you had upgraded Mysql-client to 5.1 before upgrading to 9.10 i think it

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Squeezeboxserver, Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic, and MySQL

2009-10-29 Thread Dase

I temporarily fixed this in my fresh 9.10 upgrade by forcing the upgrade
with dpkg. Not pretty, and it breaks the update manager because it won't
let you do anything else until you fix the newly broken dependencies,
but I figure I can wait a few days until this gets fixed. Download the
.deb and enter the following command:

sudo dpkg --force all -i squeezeboxserver_7.4.1_all.deb

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Squeezeboxserver, Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic, and MySQL

2009-10-26 Thread pablolie

My oh my. After going through 7.4.0 I am now reasonably happy I have
things working well with 7.4.1, a few kinks excepted.

However, I am staying right here for a while. I was hesitant to move to
9.10 (even though I am curious about improved UI) and this thread
confirms it. The next stable will be my next release for the SBS main
home media server. It's working just fine right now.

I have tired to get a response to this problem at squeezebox bugs and
kubuntu forum and no response.

I have also seen a complaint from a ubuntu user as well. If no-one does
anything about this the poo will hit the rotating thing when people
start to upgrade to 9.10 on friday.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Squeezeboxserver, Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic, and MySQL

2009-10-26 Thread raven22

Which mysql version is giving the problems?

I'm running latest debian squeeze testing with MySQL: 5.1.37-2

I experience problems with rescans, either full or just new music.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Squeezeboxserver, Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic, and MySQL

2009-10-26 Thread mudlark

the problem that I am suffering is that the deb won't install with
Mysql5.1 in place. A fix is on the way. I would guess that if you
install mysql 5.1 after the deb then it will work ok. Kubuntu 9.10
removes sbs at present and cannot be installed simply with the deb. If
you can get sbs running it works ok with 5.1 so might not be a problem
for you.

This is a right royal pain. I'll try to stimulate some interest as it is
clearly a squeezebox server problem.

How do you force to install the older mysql-server?
