I *really* like the format of the "All About Android" show on TWiT. Of
course they have a budget for a studio, a dedicated human video pro
controlling camera switching, etc. What I like most is that the remote
guests are shown on large screens beside the host, as if everyone is in the
same room. Check it out.

I must admit it did turn out better than I was expecting.
The prerecording of the demos/lessons/walk throughs is an excellent idea.
Now if it is only taken to the next step.
1. Have a script.
2. Use the script
3. Use a proper microphone (headset one will do)
4. Edit the thing to remove superfluous activity (like scrolling back and
forwards, swapping "screens" to find something etc.)
5. LC to buy Heather a proper webcam or whatever so that her view (well, our

6 and finally, use the script that you wrote for your lesson/demo/walk through

Didn't know about being able to see comments while watching webinars.
I simply clicked on the YouTube badge to go to the YouTube version and download
it.
Scrubbing a local file in VLC is so easy.
So it would be nice if the text from the webinars could be provided though.

I don't know if the users who asked for it to be disabled are just dumb or
webinarjam for disabling the option after numerous requests by some morons
(no I won't give them the benefit of the doubt ).

If it's a replay then if I come to watch it, then I have decided to and if
i decide I want to go to the lavatory or do something else I don't want a
moron controlling when I can.

Maybe I should ask that replays can have the rewind buttons enabled on
weekdays and not at weekends cos we have more time at weekends.

Did i say bloody Morons? (oh and btw Moron is being nice - A Moron can be
taught an IDIOT can't).

Re: LC Global - my experience

2017-06-17 Thread Alex Tweedly via use-livecode
I agree. Even though I am in Scotland (in fact, in Edinburgh) other
circumstances would have prevented me from attending in person - so the
ability to (almost immediately) use the replay of the webinar is really
great - and the quality of the recording is so much better than we've
seen in previous conferences.

However - webinarjam haven't got it quite right yet :-)
I don't know how many people have used the replay links yet - but here's
my comment / opinion ...

the replay link gives you a web page showing the video and the scrolling
'chat' alongside it. The video responds *only* to "pause" (and then to
"play") - there's no

 - rewind (say 30 seconds) if you got distracted
 - fast forward / backward
 - go directly to a point in time (e.g. if you have to switch devices)
 - download to watch offline
(I spent a 4 hour train journey yesterday, wishing I'd been able
to do that :-)

You *can* click on the 'Youtube' symbol at bottom-right of the video,
and then you get the usual controls for forward / rewind / etc. - but
you lose the chat session so you lose out on other people's comments and
questions, etc.

Also, minor point - it would be nice if the comments/questions were
time-stamped so you could easily visually determine when in the video
they applied to.

And, last suggestion, the mix of pre-recorded and live video that Kevin
used in the keynote worked really well - wonder if that was available to
(or should have been recommended to) others ?

But I'm nit-picking - the conference has been great, I love the on-line
format. (Though that won't stop me signing up to attend in person if
there is an actual, physical conference next year :-)

Hmmm - last wild thought - it's really good to be able to grab someone's
attention (i.e. usually a Livecode employee / expert) for 5 minutes,
show them a problem you're having, and have them give you an instant
answer. And I have a couple of examples which, right now, I know I could
demo to Trevor in 2 minutes and get an immediate answer; they're my lack
of understanding - but could be overcome so much more quickly than they
will be with me stumbling around :-)

So I wonder if there could be a session dedicated to personalized,
individual help;

 - 3 to 5 Livecode experts sign up to give answers
 - you give a brief description of your problem (so it gets assigned /
queued for one of the experts)
 - you then use Skype / screen sharing (or something better if there is
a better solution)
 - and if you can't make progress in your allocated 5 minutes, then you
use the last 30 seconds to decide on the next step

I agree. But I do miss the late night sessions. But a great experience none
the less. Having Heather as a moderator worked nicely. Some great
announcements and DP7. Great work by the LC team and the presenters! Look
forward to the next one.

PS: Had to run a quick errand and brought the conference with me on my

I fully agree. With the past simulcast(s), I would miss great sessions by
having to choose a channel to watch. Watching later just fell through the
cracks as work happened. I am very happy with day 1 of LC-Global.

As I commented on the Slack page, I do miss the coffee, tea, and snacks
during breaks. I suggest that some tasty Scottish treats be mailed to
attendees prior to future events. :)

I have to second that emotion Mathias.

It was excellent - and I stayed the whole nine yards - Next time I'll buy a
Potty ;-)

The idea of the recorded sessions interspersed with the live speaker was a
definite help in more ways than one.

I think it also helps the team being over six months as it doesn't disrupt
development as much and can give better interaction with more users - so a
win/win there.

All in all a brilliant setup

Thanks to the LC Team and the Moose that was clever hidden inside a Yak
Costume.

Now to Download V8 and V9 again and see if we can make some widgets

LC Global - my experience

2017-06-16 Thread Matthias Rebbe via use-livecode
For those who do not know, yesterday was the first day of the monthly LC Global
conference which runs one day a month until
November.

Compared to my experiences with attending the simulcasts of the past LC
conferences the LC Global was much much better.
The video and sound quality was great. The idea to combine recorded sessions,
especially complex ones, with live speaking between, was really good.
I stayed the whole 8 hours in front of my screen, except the little breaks
between the session. They were used to get fresh drinks or to get rid of them
again...

The variety of the topics was good. There was something for every one.

I find the idea to run it once a month much better than 3 or 4 days in a row.
So there is enough time to sum up the newly learned stuff and to be prepared
for the next month.

All in all it was an awesome experience and i am really excited for the
upcoming event on the 13th July.

Thanks again to all of the LC team and to the speakers.

Matthias
