Download and install the Software Development Kit from

It gives you a folder sdk in your LO3.5 installation with a file
index.html to start.

[libreoffice-users] QR-Code - what is it actually for?

2012-05-19 Thread webmaster-Kracked_P_P

On the web page
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Design/Whiteboards/External_web_banners

There are 6 QR-Code images.

What are they actually used for? The only thing I have seen similar to
this is used with a cell phone to help download an image or app that
will give you a coupon for the item that has this type of image on.

Since LO does work on cell phones, what are they made for? What will
they give the user?

The wiki page you are referring to is whiteboard design section, which means
this is place where designers interested in LO developing may put some ideas

In other words: someone have created them for whatever reason and decided to

Yes, I know they are designed so people can look at them and discuss
them. Then if there is enough interest, they may be used and may be
approved by LO.

As for the my earlier reply, on the LO web site and smartphone/tablet
viewing: I really think that people who do have phones and small
tablets that can view web pages, need to test out LO's pages and see how
well they work. My phone's browser not not view the LO site well at
all. SO, it might be an idea to make in info page designed for small
screen smartphones or small screen tablets. My LG500 phone has a 1.5
inch [2 inch diagonal] screen. My last smarter flip-phone browser was
even worse.

It would be nice to have something that is very easy to read by these
small screen devices.

[libreoffice-users] Re: ThreadDeath using BasicOfficeBean.java in LibreOffice

2012-05-19 Thread barrybevel
Firstly thanks very much for responding.

Sorry I should have said OpenOffice in my initial mail not StarOffice.

Not sure about BeanShell... I'm talking about using BasicOfficeBean.java
which is related to OfficeBean:

From BasicOfficeBean.java:
/*
 * This class provides a basic functionality of the office bean.
 * The application developer can subclass from this class in order
 * to provide application specific methods.
 * This class was provided by OpenOffice.org
 */

I was wondering if it's ok to use this code for both OpenOffice and
LibraOffice - from your response I'm assuming it's ok since the code hasn't
changed...

The reason I was wondering is because BasicOfficeBean.java is giving
ThreadDeaths.

Maybe it's the way that the Next Generation Java Plugin terminates it.
BasicOfficeBean creates a thread (CommandConveyor) which I'm guessing is
terminated by the NG Plugin when the page changes. I'm looking at using
Applet param legacy_lifecycle which might avoid the ThreadDeaths - but I'm
not sure.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has ThreadDeaths with the NG Java Plugin
with BasicOfficeBean...

Thanks.

[libreoffice-users] what is the small device format importer

2012-05-19 Thread webmaster-Kracked_P_P

I was looking into my Ubuntu Applications menu and I found a listing
in other called

LibreOffice 3.4 Small Device Format Importer

I currently run 3.4.6 on Ubuntu 10.04/GNOME.

Originally this launcher was hidden, or not checked to be viewed. So I
decided to see what it was all about.

When I clicked on that menu launcher, it just opened LO to a blank new
Writer document. So, that was no clue.

So do any of you know what this is all about? I wonder what it really
was for and why it was a hidden option for my Other menu in the

John

Before doing this, is there anyway to upgrade to the latest version of
LibreOffice? I think the answer you will get on the dev list will be to
upgrade to the latest supported version.

This will also allow us to test your bug report, confirm whether is
happens on the latest version.

As far as the length of time goes, the triage of bugs does take time
depending on the severity of bugs submitted. Also, most of the devs are
volunteers and it does take some time for someone to either be assigned
to it or for someone to pick it up.

The more people test it with descriptive results the quicker and easier
it will be to fix or at the very least find a temporary workaround.

Cheers,

Marc

The package named libreoffice-filter-mobiledev is responsible. It's

 I wonder what it really

Because this package has no binaries on it's own, so there basically is
nothing to invoke from menu.

This hidden entry is created by
/usr/share/applications/libreoffice-javafilter.desktop file. It's only purpose
is
to register few mimetypes in global mimetype database and associate them with
LO Writer. This way if you ever happen to have file from one of said programs,
your file manager (Nautilus, perhaps) will know that it is supposed to run LO
Writer. But because of .desktop files works, side-effect of this will be entry
in start menu. So they put another keyword to hide this entry from user's

[libreoffice-users] Connecting libreoffice calc to existing sqlite database file

2012-05-19 Thread Jonathan Ryshpan
I want to examine an existing sqlite database file. When I attempt the
obvious:

 1. Start LibreOffice
 2. Click Database
 3. Select Open an existing database file
 4. Click Open
 5. Choose the desired file from the browser window

I get the message Please choose Connect to an existing database' to
connect to an existing database instead

A little research implies that I have to start a back end program to
make the desired file available to LibreOffice as a running interface,
rather than as a file. But it's not clear what this program would be.
Is such a program available for Fedora-16 (on x86_64 hardware), which is
what my system is? If so, what is it? Something on a repository would
be best; but I can build it, if necessary.

Thanks - jon

I do not think that is funny.

I wanted to know why and what for, not to have a pity party. I do not
need a $200 phone, since I do everything I want on my desktop and

able to print to 4 different printers at the same time. So I do not
need to pay out for such a phone when I need other things, like 24 inch

If the LO site is liked by a smartphone QR code, then people needs to
make sure that the phones that can use these images can read the LO site
well. Not every one has a 7 or 10 inch display on a tablet phone. It
needs to be read by the smaller screens, like Blackberry phones.

Thanks for giving some perspective to the time line. The bug was
assigned to libreoffice-b...@lists.freedesktop.org, but I have no idea
what that means, or if anyone has actually even seen the bug.

I will update the bug report as soon as I install V3.5.3 or 3.5.4 and
try things. Thanks.

Re: [libreoffice-users] QR-Code - what is it actually for?

2012-05-19 Thread HBarr

Hi,

I tried it on my iPhone and was able to read all 7 images. The first 6
images gave a long URL, this
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/#36276768268352751351200485327734133717513117068151200176800685334134134134132106826823413413401706825225334270074693868298112825201917085853346362682255043256259015333418526767469380026831281917085341
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/#36276768268352751351200485327734133717513117068151200176800685334134134134132106826823413413401706825225334270074693868298112825201917085853346362682255043256259015333418526767469380026831281917085341

But the seventh image gave me a clean URL, this
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/#36276768268352751351200485327734133717513117068151200176800685334134134134132106826823413413401706825225334270074693868298112825201917085853346362682255043256259015333418526767469380026831281917085341

Also, I have a very old mobile phone on which I can use the camera to
read the QR codes.

The app I use is here. ( I am resident in Japan)
http://www.qrplus.jp/
http://itunes.apple.com/jp/app/qrapuri-lite/id329023192?mt=8

We have been using QR codes for many years, they even appear on TV
commercials so people can quickly grab information. All posters have
one, they are at stations for links to timetables, fliers that come in
the door in fact, you can see them everywhere.

I tried, but mine will not.

Gee... That's a shame. I guess everyone will have to stop using QR
codes, as your phone can't deal with them. ;-)

I've used them a few times with my Google Nexus One. I just open up
Google Goggles and it automagically recognizes the QR code and
produces the URL it points to. I can then touch the URL to open up
a browser on that site.

I do not think that is funny.

I wanted to know why and what for, not to have a pity party. I do
not need a $200 phone, since I do everything I want on my desktop and
laptops. Try getting a tablet or phone to include 3 TB of storage
and able to print to 4 different printers at the same time. So I do
not need to pay out for such a phone when I need other things, like
24 inch monitor and a second 2 GB drive.

If the LO site is liked by a smartphone QR code, then people needs to
make sure that the phones that can use these images can read the LO
site well. Not every one has a 7 or 10 inch display on a tablet
phone. It needs to be read by the smaller screens, like Blackberry
phones.

I just tried those QR codes and they all take me to where I can
download the Linux x86 version. The web site is quite usable on my
phone, so yes they do work with a capable device. Since you choose to
not have a smart phone, then you shouldn't expect yours to work with
it. The display on my phone is about 3.6

Before doing this, is there anyway to upgrade to the latest version of
LibreOffice?

I will do that. I downloaded version 3.5.3, but I need to close a few
windows before I can install it. Looks like 3.5.4 is coming along.

As far as the length of time goes, the triage of bugs does take time
depending on the severity of bugs submitted. Also, most of the devs

Thanks!

BTW ... I downloaded your graphic. I am not all that familiar with Draw,
how do I go about finding out the dimensions of your drawing so that I
can compare its size to the EPS version?

Cheers,

Marc

The reference file file should look properly scaled when viewed in Draw.
You can see it correctly scaled by visiting the product page and looking
at the picture of the correctly scaled image as printed on the product:

http://www.johnhardyco.com/990OpAmpDetails.html

It is when you Export the file using the EPS file-type and view the
EPS file with GIMP (and other viewers) that you can see that things are
scaled incorrectly. The first clue when viewing the EPS file: Look at
the model number, 990c. The c is overlapping the 0. It is not
supposed to overlap. I created two separate text boxes, one for the
990 and one for the c, so that I could control the spacing between
the main part number (990) and the suffix (c), as well as use
different sizes for the text in each box. Somehow during the incorrect
scaling everything gets about 10% bigger and the c overlaps the 0 as
a result.

If you take the reference file and Export as PDF, it should be
correctly scaled when viewed as a PDF (the c does not overlap the
0). So something is different between Export as PDF, and Export
with the EPS file-type chosen. Yet both methods work OK in OpenOffice 3.3.

Let me know if you need further information or example files. But
comparing the results of [Export as PDF] and [Export with the EPS
file-type] should reveal that the EPS approach is not scaling things
correctly.

Thank you.

Marc;

By the way, if it is allowed to attach images here, I can provide an
image of two of the aluminum potting shells side-by-side, one having a
correctly scaled image, the other incorrectly scaled.
