Not sure about openoffice but in LibreOffice you can start calc, go to
Format --Cells -- Date and create a format like you want by inserting
in the Format Code box what you want:

Example: DD/MM/ this will give 25/06/2014.

Then go to the spreadsheet column, highlight it or just the cells you
want to have it. When you insert a date in the formatted empty column it
will appear as the format you want.

Thank you for your response, Cley.
OK, I disabled Avast completely (just only didn't uninstall it, only
disabled it) and even rebooted for the change to take effect.
Oops, the problem presists even with the antivirus disabled.

The other cause that was mentioned in the posts I found was a
 disconnected printer.
LibreOffice checks the printers to get their properties upon document
load and when a printer is disconnected and it can't contact it, it
waits several minutes if the printer occasionally connects.
I also remember there was written that that software that waits isn't
LibreOffice itself but the Windows printing spooler.
So is there any solution to my problem except having the two computers
which share that two disconnected printers always turned on or
switching them on each time I need to work with LibreOffice on the
third computer (which is a notebook)?
I know, this sounds crazy but this is Microsoft.

I have a chance to reboot to Linux Mint on my notebook so it could be
a workaround for me but I'm trying to get a solution also for the
others who may face such a problem.

So what else may be the actual cause of the delay? Is it the Windows
 printing spooler?

Are you running any spam software. I know on my Linux version of LibreOffice,
when I turn on spamassassin it slows the opening of Documents quite a bit.

LO config folders for standard.soc. Rename it as the
standard.soc--original-one.txt and rename the new one as
 standard.soc.

I ust downloaded from the above link. I am using your early list (2000

Am I correct. I appreciate all the work your doing.

So let me know what you think. Be kind with your remarks, please. I

Okay, I downloaded the file to my HD. It is a .txt file.

I used locate to find the standard.soc file on my machine. It is in
 .xml format.

I moved the original standard.soc file to standard.soc.old.

 I copied the standard.soc--jan-19--10_26am---2525-color-blocks.txt to

 1. First find where standard.soc is. [openSUSE 13.1 it is /home/user

 2. Rename standard.soc or backup some.
 3. rename the new file (downloaded link mentioned) and then move it
into the folder where you found the original version.
 4. Check permissions
CODE

 5. open writer and see if the new list of colors appear. Should appear

Just tried it on openSUSE 12.2 also with :

When I etered it , the row height was automatically increased and on

Thats not totally correct if I remember right. Office started out as a
joint project between IBM and Microsoft for the original PC. There was a
differnet of directions and MS wnd IBM went there own ways. MS took a
lot of the joint developemt (Stole) with them. we used to use Wordstar

I would contact Amazon technical support and ask what is the
  problem. It
appears that they want the images in the same directory as the
  html
files. If so, it is relatively easy to correct the html file
references to the images, if a bit tedious, and move the images
into the same folder. LO actual exports html in the preferred
mode with the images stored in separate folder.

  Thank you.
I am afraid, I am not following you.
save the relative path of the subdirectory ...
Where and how am I supposed to do that.
  This morning I tried to
  * save the Writer file as html
  * copy the created/indexed image files into a separate folder (like
  the Word procedure)
  * zipped both.
But nowhere I can see any setting/check boxes etc. (including
  options
  - paths) where I can set a relative path ...
And the uploaded zip file again gives the same error.
So does the zip file created with Word for that matter.

First of all, I am no expert. I have not (until just now) tried
saving an odt document as an html document, and it has been a decade
since I tried it (in a class) with MS Word. But I have saved web
pages to my hard drive, including backup copies of the code of my own
website generated by my wysiwyg editor.

In all that saved code (including from the 2002 class using MS Word),
the basic structure I see is a file with the .html extension and a
subdirectory with the same name - except that the .html is replaced
with _files. Inside that subdirectory are all the other files (gif,
jpg, css, ..) that are part of that webpage. So the result looks
 something like this:
 \website_test -parent directory
test_page_files -subdirectory with files used by the .html
 file test_page.html -html file

To archive that into a .zip file, you open your archive program, go to
the \website_test directory, and add both the .html file and the
subdirectory into the .zip file. (Older archiving programs I've used
gave you the option of whether to remember the relative directory
structure or not. That's why I asked about the settings. The program
 I currently use - 7zip - doesn't appear to give you a choice; it
always remembers the directory structure, which is what you want.)

When you look at the .html file with a text editor, you see all the
code. If the .html uses a picture file called sample.jpg, then
somewhere in that code you will see a reference that looks something
 like this:
 IMG SRC=test_page_files/sample.jpg NAME=graphics1 ALIGN=LEFT
 WIDTH=350 HEIGHT=350 BORDER=0BR CLEAR=LEFTBR

HOWEVER, based on the test I did when starting this reply, LO Writer
appears to do things somewhat differently.

I opened an existing .odt file, added a picture to it, and used save
as to save it to test_page.odt. Then I used save as again to
save it to test_page.html. It DID NOT create the structure I've
always seen elsewhere and which I outlined above. First, when you
open the file in your browser, the formatting will not look the same
as it did in LO. Second (a minor point), the .jpg gets a random
8-digit name instead of keeping the name of the original picture.
But more importantly, the picture is NOT stored in a sub-directory.
Instead, the name of the .html file (with underscores replacing the
extension dot and trailing the html) is appended to the beginning
of the .jpg name, and the .jpg file is stored in the SAME

If you use ask.com or I assume the Google Search engine you will get at
least 10 pages of various options for remote install. back when i was
working, (retire 13 years ago) we used to do it on Win NT systems (if
your using Windows). I'm sure there are options no matter what OS your

Me too! I was having this problem since upgrading, until I read Kracked

I am using LO: Version: 4.1.0.1

closed both CALC and Writter several times. I will see what happens

In my case it was a .odt document with some defined form fields. The

See signiture below for my config.

Could it be a fonts issue? SuSE and other GnuLinuxes often have a

Depends on what your looking for. I had a xerox Phaser 6120 (laser
printer), they also make MFC printers)for 7 years on my Linux system.
never burped, Xeror provided drivers. To Negatives, relealily expense
compared to some and toner was expensive.

replaced xerox with Brothers MFC-J6710DW about 7 months ago. Not
problems so far using Brothers Linux Drivers. Have not tested the FAX
part yet, Not sure it will work over my fiber Optic phone network.

Assuming you meant templates for LibreOffice try opening writer (also
will show in calc, draw or Impress) and look at:

this lists the various paths.

 Hi :)
On my own machine at home and at work I think it is a good policy to
download and install new versions of new branches asap. Preferably
even at beta-release stage (ie pre-release). That allows me to test
out all the features i think i use and play around to see if it feels
 alright.

Then i can post bug-reports while the devs are still most keen and
most focussed on fixing things and smoothing it out. It's not always
quick to fix but it helps the devs. It might be really great if
people could test out a new branch at pre-release stage and then go
through some of the existing bug-reports to quickly see if they are
still a problem with the newer release. That might really help the
 devs.

Of course on colleagues machines i stick with the stable branch. Any
release after x.x.3 is much more stable, with x.x.6 being about as
rock-solid as it's possible to get.

The question is are you happy to just sithope that someone else
happens to notice issues that you personally find crucial? I'd
rather have an active say in pushing forwards things that i want to
 see fixed.

After having a test drive i can always reinstall the older version if
 i need to/ Simples :)

Errr, in the case of the 4.0.0 i got really lucky and found everything
i cared about just seems to work! WooHooo :D Regards from

  Bill,

I hate to say it, but that was my experience as well with 4.0.
There was an important feature (to me at least) that worked well
on 3.6 but no longer worked in 4.0. I found the regression to be
  especially distressing.

I simply uninstalled 4.0, and reinstalled 3.6. If I recall, the
uninstall process (I also use Win7) did not delete the 4.0 user
  profile users\(your user
name)\AppData\Roaming\**Libreoffice\4.0\etc, so I was able to copy
what I needed to the Libreoffice\3.0\etc. user profile after
  installing 3.6.

I've decided to be more deliberate about upgrading in the future.
Study the release notes and check out bug reports. LO 3.6 works
very well for me, so I probably won't upgrade until the
latest/greatest has a feature I really need or fixes bugs that
have bothered me in the past.

  Virgil

 ...

Bill and Virgil, it might be helpful to the developers if you could
point out the specific bugs/missing features, etc, that have been
 causing you problems in 4.0

Do you have a link to the beta versions? I have the opensuse version of
4.0.2 with latest update (yesterday) and 4.0.2 from LibreOffice parallel
installed. Both had same two major problems for me since my cleints now
usually send .docx documents and I do alot of table formatting with the
number formatting columns, some of it doesn't work again.

If I could get a hold of 4.0.3 and if it still has the problems I'll
report them again as bugs.

I ran across this this morning. Since its been in several threads I hope
someone
reported it as a bug. My solution has been to put date in as 03/04/2013 then
enter, that
sets field correctly. Also noticed I can no longer put in 03-04-2013 and get
the date set
as March 04, 2013 as it used to working in previous versions.

Can you get to a copy of Microsoft Word, even temporarily - perhaps
at work, at your educational establishment, at a library, in an
internet cafe, at a friend's, and so on? If the material is not
confidential, perhaps you could e-mail it to a friend. If so, you
could open .docx document files and re-save them as .doc files -
which LibreOffice could then open. You could also take a screenshot
of the .docx version or export a PDF version (which later versions of
Microsoft Office will do natively). You could retain this as a guide
to what the original document looked like and use it to guide you
when you were later editing the .doc in LibreOffice and saving it as .odt.

 Would that work any better?

 I trust this helps.

today's date but it will not update in future edits. Even this
procedure may not work in a template. More investigation is needed.
 Hope this helps.
 Girvin Herr
When I last used it, the Date (Fixed) inserted the date on the day its set
up and does not update the date. If you select Date it changes the date
everytime the document is opened, also changes it when person recieving the
document recieves it, I'm told.

I send out a newletter each month and the date is changed each time I update
it before I send it and then when it goes out.

1 - When you buy a PC you often get the MSO already pre-installed
2 - Not many people know about alternatives. I only learned about OO
and LO from my brother who is a IT wizard. While talking to people
about me utilization of LO I am always experiecing that almost all
people do not know about OO or LO or other packages.
3 - Many IT departments in companies choose MSO because it is easily
available and they consider the support as good. Keep in mind that
introduction of an alternative suit requires a lot of testing in an IT
department. The suit must be stable and keep productivity high.

Some of the IT departments I had to work with convinced me the average
tech person in the department knew less about computers in general than
I did. Not that I necessarily know that much. I can remember trying to
solve a networking problem according to my then employer's IT staff and
nothing worked. Eventually, they found that the hardware and software
they had specified did work well together. My sarcastic engineering
comment was to ask if they had bothered to read both spec sheets; I was
working in chemical process engineering then and reading spec sheets was
a mandatory practice for us to avoid killing innocent people.

Another problem is that it is often easier in many companies to get
approval to buy/install from a name brand than from someone who is not
a name brand. MS, Apple, Dell, HP, and Intel are name brands and it
is presumed safe to buy from them. A superior product may not get
installed/bought because of this mindset. In the 70's and 80's the joke
was no one got fired for buying IBM even if their product was the
worst in the market segment because of the brand image of IBM.
This statement goes back further than that. i remember it in the 60's. There
were far superior systems than IBM at that time, but the company bought IBM,
mainly because of the above statement.
If my above statements are wrong, then I am happy because I converted
from MSO to LO, thus from an idiot to something else...

Now have most of my issues solved. Printer prints from L.O. Ok, Okular
ok and sveral other application. Did find some problems in the install
instructions for both printer and scanner. installed brscan4 and brscan-
skey. Looks like it is a command line tool with intervention needed on
printer.

XSANE scans, ok. Also found errors with YaSt handling of scanner
install. Manual install worked with corrected commands. Not sure if
scanner install with yast is openSUSE 12.1 bug or Brothers. Next step is
to install on 12.2 Beta2.

Thanks for your help.

Is there a brothers trouble ticket where I can add comments or should I
just start a new one?

I have a MFC-J6710DW . I'm using the 386 driver, I only found a 64-bit
for the scanner which I have not tried yet. My system is hooked up usb2.

Printer:
mfcj6710dwcupswrapper-1.1.1-1.i386.rpm
mfcj6710dwlpr-1.1.1-1.i386.rpm

Scanner:
brscan4-0.4.1-1.x86_64.rpm (Not installed yet)

Went back and tried again. I can print in portrait with lpr and
LibreOffice and Okular. on openSuSE 12.1. I have not tried on 12.2 Beta1
as I'm needing to reinstall it (YaST and zypper Quit working).

Not sure what to take screen shots of. When this first started Cups
reported print job as complete on landscape jobs. No errors in error
log. Now job is not even getting to cups. I'll report it to the address
you showed below., and I can test fixes if necessary.

I think I install the Win driver on my XP guest on Virtualbox and see if
it prints.

 Hi Russ,
I have a Brother connected via network which has this
problem also. I'm exchanging email messages with Brother tech
support (Linux Support linuxsupp...@brother.com) but haven't found
the source of the problem. It does apply only to linux driver,
landscape printing is working properly under windblows-7. For me, it
won't work in LibreOffice, Eagle PCB (board design), or Okular (PDF
 view).

They say that it works for them. They installed OS 12.2 and tested
with LibreOffice and say it works for them.

Please send screenshots, copies, or any other pertinent information to
that address and maybe we can get this resolved.

 Hi Russ,
I have a Brother MFC-J6710DW connected via network which has this
problem also. I'm exchanging email messages with Brother tech
support (Linux Support linuxsupp...@brother.com) but haven't found
the source of the problem. It does apply only to linux driver,
landscape printing is working properly under windblows-7. For me, it
won't work in LibreOffice, Eagle PCB (board design), or Okular (PDF
 view).

I install the brothers Win software on my VirtualBox guest XP system and
then printed s document that failed under the linux version. The
portrait and landscape versions both printed. I did notice when Win has
control of the printer it does not go thru CUPS. Not sure what path it
tkes but it works.

Finally got on the Brothers website and after creating account I had to
leave. Tommorow I will input what information I have.

How can we create a document with the following properties:

 1. When person clicks on a blank, they can type in their answer, and
the underline characters [ ___ ] don't move to the right
 2. We want some parts of the form to be uneditable. For example, the
headers, the instructions, the text that says what we expect in every
 blank.
3.The document can be saved when completed, or even when partially
completed 4. Check-boxes can be clicked on
5.Radio buttons (multiple choice) can be clicked on
 6.The document is universal:
a. People using Windows, Mac, Linux, Playbook, tablets can work on
 the form
b. People don't have to download a special program to fill the form

This all can be done in LibreOffice Writer. You can create a .odt
document by using the tools that you can enable with View -- Toolbars
-- Form design, form navigation and forms control. After your done your
design you can export the .odt document as an .pdf. The pdf document can
be emailed out, filled in and then emailed back.

I use this for a lot of questionaires for my Lions Club activities. Also
under the libreoffice help read the sections under Forms.

Also this may help:

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/images/7/73/WG3400-WriterGuideLO.pdf

Chapters 14 and 15.

Hope this help.

I am positive that there is a PDF-merge package that you can print out
PDF from several packages and merge them into one PDF document. I
did this myself in 2010 a few times, but I do not remember what the
package was called, but it was in the repository.

Since I'm using openSUSE I will check repos for packages like you
mentioned. I have tried pdfedit but it did not work, probably me, but I
needed to get my bulletin out so I created in libroffice, then I save
the whole bulletin as a pdf. Worked fine.

LibreOffice *does* have support for .docx, there's no false

Although this support is not complete, this just means some features
won't be imported/recognized. It should definitely *not* crash.

You probably hit some bug. Does it happen only with that docx? Or
converting other pdf also generates a .docx that crashes LibO?

To find out exactly what's happening, it'd be useful to have access to a
sample .docx file that crashes LibO.

I confirm this one opens fine in 3.3.3, does it crash there?:

Also, is this the conversion service you used?

Sadly it is paid, so I can't even generate a docx just to test.

I just opened this successfully on LibreOffice 3.3.3.1 on openSUSE 11.4
