Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Loading each document about 3 minutes
On Friday, June 20, 2014 04:46:41 AM Cigydd wrote: Thank you for your response, Cley. OK, I disabled Avast completely (just only didn't uninstall it, only disabled it) and even rebooted for the change to take effect. Oops, the problem presists even with the antivirus disabled. The other cause that was mentioned in the posts I found was a disconnected printer. LibreOffice checks the printers to get their properties upon document load and when a printer is disconnected and it can't contact it, it waits several minutes if the printer occasionally connects. I also remember there was written that that software that waits isn't LibreOffice itself but the Windows printing spooler. So is there any solution to my problem except having the two computers which share that two disconnected printers always turned on or switching them on each time I need to work with LibreOffice on the third computer (which is a notebook)? I know, this sounds crazy but this is Microsoft. I have a chance to reboot to Linux Mint on my notebook so it could be a workaround for me but I'm trying to get a solution also for the others who may face such a problem. So what else may be the actual cause of the delay? Is it the Windows printing spooler? Are you running any spam software. I know on my Linux version of LibreOffice, when I turn on spamassassin it slows the opening of Documents quite a bit. I added gray and 99 different shades of it - i.e. 1% to 99%. At that point, I still wanted more. I found colors like Gold, Silver, Bronze, Brass, etc. and added them in. Then I added the colors from a set of color tables where they took one color and kept lightening it up 6 times, for a total of 7 color blocks. There were 7 colors per table making each one 77 colors. This added 462 colors to the color blocks you see. So now, I have 2525 color blocks, if my count is correct. For Ubuntu users, you have to look into the hidden dot folders to find the standard.soc file. .config/libreoffice/4/user/config where it is on other systems, I do not know. Check permissions CODE -- -rw-r--r-- 1 username users 122649 Jan 13 17:39 .config/libreoffice/4- suse/user/config/standard.soc -- 5. open writer and see if the new list of colors appear. It appears that they want the images in the same directory as the html files. If so, it is relatively easy to correct the html file references to the images, if a bit tedious, and move the images into the same folder. LO actual exports html in the preferred mode with the images stored in separate folder. Thank you. I am afraid, I am not following you. save the relative path of the subdirectory ... Where and how am I supposed to do that. This morning I tried to * save the Writer file as html * copy the created/indexed image files into a separate folder (like the Word procedure) * zipped both. But nowhere I can see any setting/check boxes etc. (including options - paths) where I can set a relative path ... And the uploaded zip file again gives the same error. So does the zip file created with Word for that matter. First of all, I am no expert. I have not (until just now) tried saving an odt document as an html document, and it has been a decade since I tried it (in a class) with MS Word. But I have saved web pages to my hard drive, including backup copies of the code of my own website generated by my wysiwyg editor. In all that saved code (including from the 2002 class using MS Word), the basic structure I see is a file with the .html extension and a subdirectory with the same name - except that the .html is replaced with _files. Inside that subdirectory are all the other files (gif, jpg, css, ..) that are part of that webpage. So the result looks something like this: \website_test -parent directory test_page_files -subdirectory with files used by the .html file test_page.html -html file To archive that into a .zip file, you open your archive program, go to the \website_test directory, and add both the .html file and the subdirectory into the .zip file. (Older archiving programs I've used gave you the option of whether to remember the relative directory structure or not. That's why I asked about the settings. The program I currently use - 7zip - doesn't appear to give you a choice; it always remembers the directory structure, which is what you want.) When you look at the .html file with a text editor, you see all the code. If the .html uses a picture file called sample.jpg, then somewhere in that code you will see a reference that looks something like this: IMG SRC=test_page_files/sample.jpg NAME=graphics1 ALIGN=LEFT WIDTH=350 HEIGHT=350 BORDER=0BR CLEAR=LEFTBR HOWEVER, based on the test I did when starting this reply, LO Writer appears to do things somewhat differently. I opened an existing .odt file, added a picture to it, and used save as to save it to test_page.odt. Then I used save as again to save it to test_page.html. It DID NOT create the structure I've always seen elsewhere and which I outlined above. First, when you open the file in your browser, the formatting will not look the same as it did in LO. Second (a minor point), the .jpg gets a random 8-digit name instead of keeping the name of the original picture. But more importantly, the picture is NOT stored in a sub-directory. Instead, the name of the .html file (with underscores replacing the extension dot and trailing the html) is appended to the beginning of the .jpg name, and the .jpg file is stored in the SAME

Preferably even at beta-release stage (ie pre-release). That allows me to test out all the features i think i use and play around to see if it feels alright. Then i can post bug-reports while the devs are still most keen and most focussed on fixing things and smoothing it out. It's not always quick to fix but it helps the devs. It might be really great if people could test out a new branch at pre-release stage and then go through some of the existing bug-reports to quickly see if they are still a problem with the newer release. That might really help the devs. Of course on colleagues machines i stick with the stable branch. Any release after x.x.3 is much more stable, with x.x.6 being about as rock-solid as it's possible to get. The question is are you happy to just sithope that someone else happens to notice issues that you personally find crucial? There was an important feature (to me at least) that worked well on 3.6 but no longer worked in 4.0. I found the regression to be especially distressing. I simply uninstalled 4.0, and reinstalled 3.6. If I recall, the uninstall process (I also use Win7) did not delete the 4.0 user profile users\(your user name)\AppData\Roaming\**Libreoffice\4.0\etc, so I was able to copy what I needed to the Libreoffice\3.0\etc. user profile after installing 3.6. I've decided to be more deliberate about upgrading in the future. Study the release notes and check out bug reports. LO 3.6 works very well for me, so I probably won't upgrade until the latest/greatest has a feature I really need or fixes bugs that have bothered me in the past. Virgil ... [libreoffice-users] .docx documents with graphic, not opening correctly
LibreOffice: Version 4.0.0.3 (Build ID: 400m0(Build:103)) released by SUSE LibreOffice: Version 4.0.0.3 (Build ID: 7545bee9c2a0782548772a21bc84a9dcc583b89) releases by TDF. I have both versions above installed. see signature for OS and KDE versions, both with latest updates. Both of the above LO versions have the problem. I can open a .docx document if it is all text with no problems. If the document like a new letter I get in .docx format is opened the graphics are missing, or partically there or off set from where they should be. I even created a new user and logged in as him, then using SUSE version of LO4.0.0.3 tried the same document with the same results. Also I just took a copy of a news letter I am getting ready to send out ( generated in .odf format) and saved it as a .docx document. the formating was totally messed up and graphics were messed up also (graphics in wrong place, text in wrong place probably caused by graphics being wrong, some graphics just plain blank box, etc. On 3.6.x versions of Lo I did not have this problem. Before I report this as a bug I am wondering if anyone else is having this problem? Please let me know what else I can provide? Also anyone that can translate from French to English might be useful to help with the Faq, or with the Maths Guide. Anyone able to translate from German to English might be able to help translate the Base Handbook. I only learned about OO and LO from my brother who is a IT wizard. While talking to people about me utilization of LO I am always experiecing that almost all people do not know about OO or LO or other packages. 3 - Many IT departments in companies choose MSO because it is easily available and they consider the support as good. Keep in mind that introduction of an alternative suit requires a lot of testing in an IT department. The suit must be stable and keep productivity high. Some of the IT departments I had to work with convinced me the average tech person in the department knew less about computers in general than I did. Not that I necessarily know that much. I can remember trying to solve a networking problem according to my then employer's IT staff and nothing worked. Eventually, they found that the hardware and software they had specified did work well together. My sarcastic engineering comment was to ask if they had bothered to read both spec sheets; I was working in chemical process engineering then and reading spec sheets was a mandatory practice for us to avoid killing innocent people. Another problem is that it is often easier in many companies to get approval to buy/install from a name brand than from someone who is not a name brand. MS, Apple, Dell, HP, and Intel are name brands and it is presumed safe to buy from them. A superior product may not get installed/bought because of this mindset. In the 70's and 80's the joke was no one got fired for buying IBM even if their product was the worst in the market segment because of the brand image of IBM. This statement goes back further than that. i remember it in the 60's. There were far superior systems than IBM at that time, but the company bought IBM, mainly because of the above statement. If my above statements are wrong, then I am happy because I converted from MSO to LO, thus from an idiot to something else... Not sure what to take screen shots of. When this first started Cups reported print job as complete on landscape jobs. No errors in error log. Now job is not even getting to cups. I'll report it to the address you showed below., and I can test fixes if necessary. I think I install the Win driver on my XP guest on Virtualbox and see if it prints.
