How do I create custom Appendix page numbers in Writer?
Greetings, Using Aoo 4.1.6 Writer under Slackware Linux 14.2 (K4.4.217) and xfce4. I have a document which I need to add an appendix to at the end. I read the Writer Guide, but there does not seem to be an example of what I want to do with the appendix page numbers. I do not want them to continue from the main document page numbers, so I created an Appendix page style and used that in the page break dialog to restart the appendix page numbers at 1. What I want is to have the page numbers be prefixed by "A" for appendix, to differentiate them from the document main body in the TOC. I could just add an "A" before the page number field in the footer, but that "A" would not be reflected in the TOC page numbers. I want the TOC to reflect "A1", "A2",..., not just restarting at "1" again. The guide has an example of the Chapter number prefix type of numbering, such as "2-1", as in Chapter 2, Page 1, but that is not quite what I want. Is there a way to add such an arbitrary prefix to page numbers and have the entire page number, including the arbitrary prefix, be reflected in the TOC? Thanks. Re: E-mail Program
You're welcome. Some options for a PDF editor include Adobe's PDF editor, Foxitsoftware's Phantom PDF, and Qoppa's PDF Studio Standard. There's others. These are the ones I'm most familiar with. Adobe's product is a subscription. My understanding is that when the subscription expires the product will no longer work, can't even open the program. Adobe also sells a perpetual license for their 2017 product. For the 2017 product all the features work all the time. For myself, I wouldn't pay full license price for something that's already three years old and won't get any updates. Foxitsoftware's Phantom PDF Standard is sold as a perpetual license with upgrades for one year. Cost is about 90% of a one year subscription for Adobe Acrobat Standard DC. The difference being, after the year is up, all features continue to work. Qoppa's PDF Studio Standard is sold as a perpetual license with upgrades for one year. If a new release comes out within a certain time after your purchase, nine months I think, you're entitled to the new release, so an upgrade may become available during the license term, not just updates. It's about 60% of the cost of Adobe's one year subscription. I've used Qoppa on Linux for years and generally purchase a new license about every third year. It's met all my advanced PDF needs nicely. I've never used the Windows version. The license may be used on two devices.

*Das Öffnen sollte also eigentlich kein Problem machen. Hi Alan, THank you so much for your answer!! >From your below, I need it for exactly the following: "If the requirements include changing text (adding, removing, reflowing) in an existing PDF, controlling how others can use the document (prohibit select and copy text, open to a certain page, prevent modification, etc) then yes, a PDF editor would be required." From: Alan B Sent: May 6, 2020 6:24 PM To: users@openoffice.apache.org Subject: Re: E-mail Program No open source PDF editors that I am aware of. Regarding this particular question it is important to understand the requirement. Many people I have supported have asked for a PDF editor. Getting them to define what they actually want to do often determines that the features of Adobe Acrobat Reader or Foxit Reader, among others, will meet their requirements. If the requirements include changing text (adding, removing, reflowing) in an existing PDF, controlling how others can use the document (prohibit select and copy text, open to a certain page, prevent modification, etc) then yes, a PDF editor would be required. If the requirements include highlighting, marking out, underscoring existing text, applying a digital signature, adding comments, then Adobe Acrobat Reader or Foxit Reader both will meet the requirements. If the requirement is to create a PDF document then OpenOffice programs can be used to do that along with other methods, e.g. Foxit Reader includes a PDF "printer". Select it as the target printer and instead of a page coming out of your physical printer, a PDF document is created. On Tue, May 5, 2020 at 12:40 PM sasha blaskovich wrote: > That was very helpful.
