Re: [ovirt-users] uncaught exception with engine vm in 3.6.1 selecting hosted_storage

2015-12-22 Thread Einav Cohen
Hi Simon/Gianluca[/all],

Many thanks for reporting the issues that you have encountered.

In order to better track them, please file a BZ for each scenario
in which you encounter such an alert in the UI.

For each such BZ, please include:

- Exact oVirt version in which the alert has appeared.

- Steps to reproduce (that lead to the displayed alert).

- The full exception stack-trace from the client side (javascript)
log [like the one that Simone has provided in his last response
[1] / like the one that appears in the screen-shot provided by
Gianluca [2]] - please provide the actual text though, rather
than a screen-shot of the text, as it will ease the problem-
tracing process for us.

- If relevant: server side engine.log.

Regards,
Einav

[ovirt-users] Calculating Requirements

2015-12-22 Thread Taste-Of-IT

Hello,

i have a testsystem with 16GB RAM and ovirt as sef-hosted-engine on
centos7. i have no vm started and the host consume 2,5GB RAM. In
documents it is written that the engine needs aprox 3GB RAM and the
system self 1GB RAM. At all nearly 4GB RAM. So i can use aprox 12GB RAM
for virtual machines if i use the ram 1:1. is that a good point of
calculation, or are there any other points to calculate?

thx

You have more options:
1. You can just ssh to the engine VM; if you deployed using the appliance
you were asked about setting its root password via cloud-init.
2. Since 3.6.1, the engine will import the hosted-engine storage domain and
you'll see the engine VM in the engine. You could open its console from
here as for other VMs.
3. You could directly connect to it with VNC/spice also from other hosts:
on the host where the engine VM runs:
  [root@c72het20151222h1 vdsm_logs]# hosted-engine --add-console-password
  Enter password:
code = 0
message = 'Done'
on your machine:
   /bin/remote-viewer vnc://:5900
4. You could use the VM virtio serial console if the VM is configured for
that (and the engine appliance is) as described here:
http://www.ovirt.org/Serial_Console_Setup#I_need_to_access_the_console_the_old_way

Hello Ala,

yes i refere to vm disk size. I tried both and the result is the same
like you described. So only extend size field is working. Yes i think
the field should grayed out or disabled.

Hello,

Are referring to vm disk size?
If so and I am referring here to the I:
I just tried both options and found that even though it is possible to
change
the size field, the size isn't changed. Probably this field should be
graded

out and only display the current size.
However, the "Extend size by(GB)" field does extend the disk size.

I don't think so, I think something went wrong on the backend which caused
some empty object or null object to be returned, which caused the UI to blow
up. Using the stack trace we can figure out what part of the UI blew up and
maybe from that figure out what went wrong on the backend.

Hi list,

any idea how to refresh the list?
I guest a reboot of the host will solve that but I can't reboot the host

[ovirt-users] How to run "engine-backup"?

2015-12-22 Thread Will Dennis
Yay, I *finally* have my 3-host hyper-converged oVirt datacenter stood up :)

[root@ovirt-node-01 ~]# hosted-engine --vm-status

--== Host 1 status ==--

Status up-to-date  : True
Hostname   : ovirt-node-01
Host ID: 1
Engine status : {"health": "good", "vm": "up", "detail":
"up"}
Score  : 3400
stopped: False
Local maintenance  : False
crc32  : 65c41ca5
Host timestamp : 217522

--== Host 2 status ==--

Status up-to-date  : True
Hostname   : ovirt-node-02
Host ID: 2
Engine status : {"reason": "vm not running on this host",
"health": "bad", "vm": "down", "detail": "unknown"}
Score  : 3400
stopped: False
Local maintenance  : False
crc32  : a7a599d8
Host timestamp : 56101

--== Host 3 status ==--

Status up-to-date  : True
Hostname   : ovirt-node-03
Host ID: 3
Engine status : {"reason": "vm not running on this host",
"health": "bad", "vm": "down", "detail": "unknown"}
Score  : 3400
stopped: False
Local maintenance  : False
crc32  : 6e138d0b
Host timestamp : 432658

Now in the oVirt webadmin UI down in the "Alerts" section, I am seeing this
message:

"There is no full backup available, please run engine-backup to prevent data
loss in case of corruption."

I do not see a "engine-backup" CLI command on my hosts; how does one do this?
(I have searched ovirt.org to no avail...)

Thanks,
Will

In the mean time I was "able" to solve the problems following what already
asked some days ago:
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2015-December/036601.html

- verified no tasks on hypervisor as what found in business_entity_snapshot
are failed attempts to import hosted engine storage domain
[root@ractor ~]# vdsClient -s 0 getAllTasksStatuses
{'status': {'message': 'OK', 'code': 0}, 'allTasksStatus': {}}

- stop engine
systemctl stop ovirt-engine

- delete on db
engine=# delete from business_entity_snapshot ;
DELETE 3
engine=# commit;
COMMIT
engine=# exit
engine-# \q
-bash-4.2$ exit
logout

- start engine
systemctl start engine

- update ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-jdbc
---> Package ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-jdbc.noarch 0:1.0.1-1.el7 will be
updated
---> Package ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-jdbc.noarch 0:1.0.4-1.el7 will be
an update

- engine-setup now completes ok
(based on /usr/share/doc/ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-jdbc-1.0.4/README.admin
as I have only internal profile)

Re: [ovirt-users] Hosted Engine crash - state = EngineUp-EngineUpBadHealth

2015-12-22 Thread Will Dennis
Ah OK, my ignorance strikes again... I flushed all the rules on IPtables on
hosts -01 and -02, and now Gluster seems up and happy...

I saw messages after I flushed IPtables that the engine state was changing, and
eventually it landed on status: ReinitializeFSM-LocalMaintenance
...but I could not log into the admin website.

I then queried the engine VM state at the CLI, and saw it was thus:

[root@ovirt-node-01 ~]# hosted-engine --vm-status

--== Host 1 status ==--

Status up-to-date  : True
Hostname   : ovirt-node-01
Host ID: 1
Engine status : {"reason": "bad vm status", "health":
"bad", "vm": "up", "detail": "paused"}
Score  : 3400
stopped: False
Local maintenance  : False
crc32  : 538868a0
Host timestamp : 214954

--== Host 2 status ==--

Status up-to-date  : True
Hostname   : ovirt-node-02
Host ID: 2
Engine status : {"reason": "vm not running on this host",
"health": "bad", "vm": "down", "detail": "unknown"}
Score  : 0
stopped: False
Local maintenance  : True
crc32  : 419a0c6d
Host timestamp : 53528

So, I issued the command “hosted-engine --vm-shutdown” on host -01, and it
eventually came down (had to be force-killed per status emails) and then HA
restarted it :)

Looks like I’m back to being good now... Thanks everyone for the assist, and
talk to you soon, I’m sure ;)

hosted-engine-setup asks:
  iptables was detected on your computer, do you wish setup to
configure it? (Yes, No)[Yes]:

You have just to say no here.

If you say no it's completely up to you to configure it opening the required
ports or everything disabling it if you don't care.

The issue with gluster ports is that hosted-engine-setup simply configure
iptables for what it knows you'll need and on 3.6 it's always assuming that the
gluster volume is served by external hosts.

No, you can just restart it.

If you can put the host to maintenance, it is better, as restarting vdsm
will abort ongoing operations.

So at that point gluster lost its quorum and the fail system got read-only.

On the getStorageDomainsList VDSM internally raises cause the file-system is

Hello,
I'm going to try.
In the mean time, do you think it could be related somehow with what below?

After engine upgrade to 3.6.1 from 3.6.0 I updated via yum the package
ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-jdbc, without running its own update phase (in
practice another engine-setup as I only have internal profile)
And this caused problems with the internal profile.
See also
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1293338

So I reverted the package to its previous version.
I'm now testing upgrade internal profile passing from
---> Package ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-jdbc.noarch 0:1.0.1-1.el7 will be
updated

to
---> Package ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-jdbc.noarch 0:1.0.4-1.el7 will be
an update

and following
/usr/share/doc/ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-jdbc-1.0.4/README.admin

So I put env in global maintenance, stopped engine and then run engine-setup

But it seems it remains stuck at

Can this in some way influence the exception I'm getting? O that perhaps it
is better to first solve this problem?

Let me know. I can downgrade again the ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-jdbc
package and try your suggestions instead and let see after the problem with
the extension.

Hi, this is a browser side exception so you won't find anything about it in the
logs on the server. However all is not lost. If you hover your mouse over the
popup it should show you a tooltip with the entire stack trace (alternatively
you can open up the browsers development tools (usually ctrl-shift-i) and look
at the console, the stack trace will be there too).

The stack trace will most likely look completely useless as well since all the
Javascript is obfuscated. However if you install the following package:

ovirt-engine-webadmin-portal-debuginfo

That will contain a symbolMap file. This file has a mapping from the obfuscated
symbols to the original code. Once you have the mapping file you can use the
obfuscated string in the stack trace to look up the original code. That will
help us determine exactly where the problem is.

I am guessing something went wrong on the backend causing the unattached
storage domain, which resulted in some unexpected state on the frontend that
caused the null pointer exception.

If you can provide us with the obfuscated stack trace, we can point to you
what to look for in the mapping file.

Re: [ovirt-users] virtual Disk

2015-12-22 Thread Ala Hino
Hello,

Are referring to vm disk size?
If so and I am referring here to the I:
I just tried both options and found that even though it is possible to change
the size field, the size isn't changed. Probably this field should be graded
out and only display the current size.
However, the "Extend size by(GB)" field does extend the disk size.

Re: [ovirt-users] Hosted Engine crash - state = EngineUp-EngineUpBadHealth

2015-12-22 Thread Will Dennis
The network should *not* be flakey - all hosts are plugged into a Cisco
Catalyst 4500 switch. I can take a look at the port counters when I have a
chance, but would not expect intermittent network disruptions.

Will post logs soon and provide URLs.

OK, another problem :(

I was having the same problem with my second oVirt host that I had with my
first one, where when I ran “hosted-engine —deploy” on it, after it completed
successfully, then I was experiencing a ~50sec lag when SSH’ing into the node…

vpnp71:~ will$ time ssh root@ovirt-node-02 uptime
 19:36:06 up 4 days,  8:31,  0 users,  load average: 0.68, 0.70, 0.67

real  0m50.540s
user  0m0.025s
sys 0m0.008s

So, in the oVirt web admin console, I put the "ovirt-node-02” node into
Maintenance mode, then SSH’d to the server and rebooted it. Sure enough, after
the server came back up, SSH was fine (no delay), which again was the same
experience I had had with the first oVirt host. So, I went back to the web
console, and choose the “Confirm host has been rebooted” option, which I
thought would be the right action to take after a reboot. The system opened a
dialog box with a spinner, which never stopped spinning… So finally, I closed
the dialog box with the upper right (X) symbol, and then for this same host
choose “Activate” from the menu. It was then I noticed I had recieved a state
transition email notifying me that "EngineUp-EngineUpBadHealth” and sure
enough, the web UI was then unresponsive. I checked on the first oVirt host,
the VM with the name “HostedEngine” is still running, but obviously isn’t
working…

So, looks like I need to restart the HostedEngine VM or take whatever action is
needed to return oVirt to operation… Hate to keep asking this question, but
what’s the correct action at this point?

ovirt-ha-agent should always restart it for you after a few minutes but the
point is that the network configuration seams to be not that stable.

I know from another thread that you are trying to deploy hosted-engine over
GlusterFS in an hyperconverged way and this, as I said, is currently not
supported.
I think that it can also requires some specific configuration on network side.

For hyperconverged gluster+engine , it should work without any specific
configuration on network side. However if the network is flaky, it is possible
that there are errors with gluster volume access. Could you provide the
ovirt-ha-agent logs as well as gluster mount logs?

Adding Sahina and Dan here.

Thanks, again,
Will

OK, so you are trying to deploy hosted-engine on GlusterFS in a hyper-converged

Unfortunately I've to advise you that this is not a supported configuration on

Configuring the management network with DHCP causes VDSM to try and configure
the NIC that with a bridge on top of it with DHCP.
This has failed and VDSM automatically reverted the NIC configuration to its
original
static IP configuration.
The installation of VDSM went OK, but the configuration of the management

Hi Kristof.
By inspecting the logs (supervdsm.log) I see the following:
Adding the management network on the host started here:

MainProcess|jsonrpc.Executor/4::DEBUG::2015-12-21
15:40:04,620::supervdsmServer::114::SuperVdsm.ServerCallback::(wrapper) call

u'bootproto': u'dhcp', u'STP': u'no', u'bridged': u'true', u'defaultRoute':
True}}, {}, {u'connectivityCheck': u'true', u'connectivityTimeout': 120}) {}
as part of the network configuration vdsm tries to call `ifup` on the bridge
named ovirtmgmt:

ifup-waiting-on-dhcp::DEBUG::2015-12-21
15:40:04,854::utils::669::root::(execCmd) /usr/bin/systemd-run --scope
--unit=8bcdacee-4849-453d-a68f-2251e168d466 --slice=vdsm-dhclient
/usr/sbin/ifup ovirtmgmt (cwd None)
This fails after ~1 minute:

ifup-waiting-on-dhcp::DEBUG::2015-12-21
15:41:08,184::utils::687::root::(execCmd) FAILED: = 'Running as unit
8bcdacee-4849-453d-a68f-2251e168d466.scope.\n';  = 1
and then the vdsm gives up after 2 minuets (see the parameter:
u'connectivityTimeout': 120) when it no longer hears the keepalive ping from
the engine.
I guess that somehow the DHCP process on your network is not operating properly.
To work around this (until you sort out the DHCP issues)- configure ovirtmgmt
management to have a static IP.

Sure enough, after the server came back up, SSH was fine (no

the “Confirm host has been rebooted” option, which I thought would
be the right action to take after a reboot. The system opened a

obviously isn’t working…

So, looks like I need to restart the HostedEngine VM or take
whatever action is needed to return oVirt to operation… Hate to
keep asking this question, but what’s the correct action at this
point?

ovirt-ha-agent should always restart it for you after a few minutes
but the point is that the network configuration seams to be not that
stable.

I know from another thread that you are trying to deploy hosted-engine
over GlusterFS in an hyperconverged way and this, as I said, is
currently not supported.
I think that it can also requires some specific configuration on
network side.

For hyperconverged gluster+engine , it should work without any specific
configuration on network side. However if the network is flaky, it is
possible that there are errors with gluster volume access. Could you
provide the ovirt-ha-agent logs as well as gluster mount logs?

Adding Sahina and Dan here.

Would you provide more information (logs, screenshots) about the pains of
installing ovirt-3.6? These days, most of the development effort is focused on
stabilizing 3.6. No further releases of ovirt-3.5.z are expected (up to
horrible security bugs, etc), so we advise using 3.6 in new instllations.

Hello,

 official numbers would also be interesting to me.
I can tell you that we do have some larger infrastructures running
on several engine hosts, one of them for example has 3 datacenters,
7 cluster, 200 hosts. We do have noticeable performance issues on
the engine host. The engine is already running on rather performant
hardware including 12 cores and SSDs - but nevertheless we have load
averages >20 on it and very slow response time from the engine
itself.

Hello,

we also had a lot of issues using ILOs of older DL360 hosts. We
ended up using "ipmilan" with options "lanplus=1,power_wait=4".
Assuming of course you are able to access the management module/port
from the network your ovirt nodes are running in.

[ovirt-users] uncaught exception with engine vm in 3.6.1 selecting hosted_storage

2015-12-22 Thread Gianluca Cecchi
Hello after updating from 3.6.0 to 3.6.1 my HE environment, I'm not able to
import/activate the hosted_storage domain because it results anattached
Moreover I get the popup message

Uncaught exception occurred. Please try reloading the page. Details:
(TypeError) __gwt$exception: : c is null

when I select the line of hosted_storage domain in storage tab. See:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvVlc1XzNUZ18yWWs/view?usp=sharing

I don't find apparently ERROR messages wen I do this, so I don't know where
to watch.

On engine, where the db lives, I have under /var/lib/pgsql/data/pg_log

[root@ractorshe pg_log]# ls -lrt

-rw---. 1 postgres postgres0 Dec 21 01:00 postgresql-Mon.log
-rw---. 1 postgres postgres0 Dec 22 01:00 postgresql-Tue.log

On Sunday logs, when the engine was started I see

LOG: autovacuum: found orphan temp table "pg_temp_8"."tt_temp22" in

so messages related to domains and could be the reason of the exception and
of the inability of importing/attaching my HE storage domain.

Let me know if I can provide more logs or output of queries from the
database.

Re: [ovirt-users] network configuration oVirt 3.5

2015-12-22 Thread Ido Barkan
Hi Kristof.

By inspecting the logs (supervdsm.log) I see the following:
Adding the management network on the host started here:

MainProcess|jsonrpc.Executor/4::DEBUG::2015-12-21
15:40:04,620::supervdsmServer::114::SuperVdsm.ServerCallback::(wrapper)
call setupNetworks with ({u'ovirtmgmt': {u'nic': u'enp3s0', u'mtu':
u'1500', u'bootproto': u'dhcp', u'STP': u'no', u'bridged': u'true',
u'defaultRoute': True}}, {}, {u'connectivityCheck': u'true',
u'connectivityTimeout': 120}) {}

as part of the network configuration vdsm tries to call `ifup` on the
bridge named ovirtmgmt:

ifup-waiting-on-dhcp::DEBUG::2015-12-21
15:40:04,854::utils::669::root::(execCmd) /usr/bin/systemd-run --scope
--unit=8bcdacee-4849-453d-a68f-2251e168d466 --slice=vdsm-dhclient
/usr/sbin/ifup ovirtmgmt (cwd None)

This fails after ~1 minute:

ifup-waiting-on-dhcp::DEBUG::2015-12-21
15:41:08,184::utils::687::root::(execCmd) FAILED: = 'Running as unit
8bcdacee-4849-453d-a68f-2251e168d466.scope.\n';  = 1

and then the vdsm gives up after 2 minuets (see the parameter:
u'connectivityTimeout': 120) when it no longer hears the keepalive ping
from the engine.

I guess that somehow the DHCP process on your network is not operating
properly.

To work around this (until you sort out the DHCP issues)- configure
ovirtmgmt management to have a static IP.

ovirt-ha-agent should always restart it for you after a few minutes but the
point is that the network configuration seams to be not that stable.

I know from another thread that you are trying to deploy hosted-engine over
GlusterFS in an hyperconverged way and this, as I said, is currently not
supported.
I think that it can also requires some specific configuration on network
side.

[ovirt-users] iLO2

2015-12-22 Thread Eriks Goodwin
I have been tinkering with various settings and configurations trying to get
power management working properly--but it keeps giving me "Fail:" (without any
details) every time I test the settings. The servers I am using are HP Proliant
DL380 G6 with integrated iLO2. Any tips?

I can use the same credentials to log into the system via the web interface--so
I'm sure I have the address, username, and passwd right. :-)

It really depends from the size of your deployment site: the default value
in the engine appliance is 16G, now the setup proposes the minimum value
between the available memory and the appliance default.
For small deployments 4G should be enough.

OK, so you are trying to deploy hosted-engine on GlusterFS in a
hyper-converged way (using the same hosts for virtualization and for
serving GlusterFS). Unfortunately I've to advise you that this is not a
supported configuration on oVirt 3.6 due to different open bugs.
So I'm glad you can help us testing it but I prefer to advise that today
that schema is not production ready.

In your case it seams that VDSM correctly connects the GlusterFS volume
seeing all the bricks

Hey Kevin.

In the last months we went over to only release oVirt Node through Jenkins [3].

The main reasons is that the Node team was focused on stabilizing
Node, instead of improving the release process.

For the old isos in [1] - We should probably remove them and point to
the continous builds.

I've also updated the links on the main Node landing page:
