Removing snippets of other logs, as I think vdsm should be enough.

Are you sure this is the first place that deals with this issue?
Perhaps search the log earlier, e.g. for 'host_storage' (part of your
path).
Also, please check supervdsm.log (in the same log directory).

Does it manage to mount it? Write anything there?

Best regards,

2021-01-17 Thread Christian Reiss

Update:

I found out that 4a62cdb4-b314-4c7f-804e-8e7275518a7f is an iscsi target
outside of gluster. It is a test that we do not need anymore but we cant
remove. According to

its attached, but something is still missing...

I assume due to the changed LVM UUID it fails, right? Can I someone
fix/change the UUID and get the node back up again? It does not seem
to
be a major issue, to be honest.

I can see the gluster mount (what ovirt mounts when it onlines a
node)
already, and gluster is happy too.

Any help is appreciated!

[ovirt-users] New setup - Failing to Activate storage domain on NFS shared storage

2021-01-17 Thread Matt Snow
I installed ovirt node 4.4.4 as well as 4.4.5-pre and experience the same
problem with both versions. The issue occurs in both cockpit UI and tmux'd CLI
of ovirt-hosted-engine-setup. I get passed the point where the VM is created
and running.
I tried to do some debugging on my own before reaching out to this list. Any
help is much appreciated!

ovirt node hardware: NUC format Jetway w/ Intel N3160 (Braswell 4
cores/4threads), 8GB RAM, 64GB SSD. I understand this is underspec'd, but I
believe it meets the minimum requirements.

NFS server:
* Ubuntu 19.10 w/ ZFS share w/ 17TB available space.
* NFS share settings are just 'rw=@172.16.1.0/24' but have also tried
'rw,sec=sys,anon=0' and '@172.16.1.0/24,insecure'
* The target directory is always empty and chown'd 36:36 with 0755 permissions.
* I have tried using both IP and DNS names. forward and reverse DNS works from
ovirt host and other systems on the network.
* The NFS share always gets mounted successfully on the ovirt node system.
* I have tried auto and v3 NFS versions in other various combinations.
* I have also tried setting up an NFS server on a non-ZFS backed storage system
that is open to any host and get the same errors as shown below.
* I ran nfs-check.py script without issue against both NFS servers and followed
other verification steps listed on

Subject: [ovirt-users] How to configure Power Management Fence Protocol for
Libvirtd VM ?

Hi, everyone:

My test env is running on Ubuntu Libvirtd server, I configure the QEMU VM as
Physical Host, the hosts list is:

root@ubts1:~# virsh

Welcome to virsh, the virtualization interactive terminal.

Type: 'help' for help with commands

   'quit' to quit

virsh # list

Id NameState

---

24 3.ooengh1 running

25 3.ooengh2 running

root@ubts2:~# virsh

Welcome to virsh, the virtualization interactive terminal.

Type: 'help' for help with commands

   'quit' to quit

virsh # list

Id Name State

--

26 3.ohost1 running

27 3.ohost2 running

28 3.ohost3 running

The ooengh1 and ooengh2 are configured for hosted-engine, and ohst1 ohost2
ohost3 are configured for KVM server.

Now, I want to test the Power Management service using my test env, how can
I choose the fence protocol ?

[ovirt-users] Re: Managed Block Storage and more

2021-01-17 Thread Shantur Rathore
Hi Strahil,

Thanks for your reply, I have 16 nodes for now but more on the way.

The reason why Ceph appeals me over Gluster because of the following
reasons.

1. I have more experience with Ceph than Gluster.
2. I heard in Managed Block Storage presentation that it leverages storage
software to offload storage related tasks.
3. Adding Gluster storage limits to 3 hosts at a time.
4. I read that there is a limit of maximum 12 hosts in Gluster setup. No
such limitation if I go via Ceph.

In my initial testing I was able to enable Centos repositories in Node Ng
but if I remember correctly, there were some librbd versions present in
Node Ng which clashed with the version I was trying to install.

Does Ceph hyperconverge still make sense?

Regards
Shantur

[ovirt-users] How to configure Power Management Fence Protocol for Libvirtd VM ?

2021-01-17 Thread tommy
Hi, everyone:

My test env is running on Ubuntu Libvirtd server, I configure the QEMU VM as
Physical Host, the hosts list is:

root@ubts1:~# virsh

Welcome to virsh, the virtualization interactive terminal.

Type: 'help' for help with commands

   'quit' to quit

virsh # list

Id NameState

---

24 3.ooengh1 running

25 3.ooengh2 running

root@ubts2:~# virsh

Welcome to virsh, the virtualization interactive terminal.

Type: 'help' for help with commands

   'quit' to quit

virsh # list

Id Name State

--

26 3.ohost1 running

27 3.ohost2 running

28 3.ohost3 running

The ooengh1 and ooengh2 are configured for hosted-engine, and ohst1 ohost2
ohost3 are configured for KVM server.

Now, I want to test the Power Management service using my test env, how can
I choose the fence protocol ?

Hi Tommy,

You can use the following command to install hosted-engine without an internet
connection:

#hosted-engine --deploy --ansible-extra-vars=he_offline_deployment=true

And after the installation is finished you can configure the yum server and
update the packages.

Another option is to use hooks [1].

Hi,every one!

My env cannot access internet, but during the hosted-engine installation, It
needs to run yum install to update system.

I have made a yum source mirror local, but there is a step ( after create
engine vm, the vm runs yum update using default repo configure ) it failed to
connect yum source.

How can I configure yum source to local yum server before the vm run update ?

Thanks.

That is a good reason to pick CEPH.

Only if you wish the nodes to be both Storage and Compute. Yet, you can
add as many as you wish as a compute node (won't be part of Gluster)
and later you can add them to the Gluster TSP (this requires 3 nodes at
a time).

Actually , it's about Red Hat support for RHHI and not for Gluster +
oVirt. As both oVirt and Gluster ,that are used, are upstream
projects, support is on best effort from the community.

Yes it is. You got the knowledge to run the CEPH part, yet consider
talking with some of the devs on the list - as there were some changes
recently in oVirt's support for CEPH.

Hi Henry,
A few clarifications:
1) OVF is updated every 60 *minutes* by default:
$ ./engine-config --get OvfUpdateIntervalInMinutes
OvfUpdateIntervalInMinutes: 60 version: general
You can update that to another value, i.e., 5 minutes (engine restart is
required afterwards):
$ ./engine-config --set OvfUpdateIntervalInMinutes=5
$ ./engine-config --get OvfUpdateIntervalInMinutes
OvfUpdateIntervalInMinutes: 5 version: general

2) If the primary engine crashed and some of the environment structure
changes were done after the last OVF update, they will be "lost" - that is
will not be recreated on the secondary engine.
I'm not aware of any solution for that, except a manual "Update OVFs"
retrigger on a Storage Domain.

Thank you!

[ovirt-users] VG issue / Non Operational

2021-01-17 Thread Christian Reiss

Hey folks,

quick (I hope) question: On my 3-node cluster I am swapping out all the
SSDs with fewer but higher capacity ones. So I took one node down
(maintenance, stop), then removed all SSDs, set up a new RAID, set up
lvm and gluster, let it resync. Gluster health status shows no unsynced
entries.

Uppon going from maintenance to online from ovirt management It goes
into non-operational status, vdsm log on the node shows:

I assume due to the changed LVM UUID it fails, right? Can I someone
fix/change the UUID and get the node back up again? It does not seem to
be a major issue, to be honest.

I can see the gluster mount (what ovirt mounts when it onlines a node)
already, and gluster is happy too.

Any help is appreciated!

[ovirt-users] Re: how to install hosted-engine without internet connection ?

2021-01-17 Thread Asaf Rachmani
Hi Tommy,

You can use the following command to install hosted-engine without an
internet connection:
#hosted-engine --deploy --ansible-extra-vars=he_offline_deployment=true
And after the installation is finished you can configure the yum server and
update the packages.

Another option is to use hooks [1].

[ovirt-users] Re: Managed Block Storage and more

2021-01-17 Thread Strahil Nikolov via Users
Hi Shantur,

the main question is how many nodes you have.
Ceph integration is still in development/experimental and it should be wise to
consider Gluster also. It has a great integration and it's quite easy to work
with).

There are users reporting using CEPH with their oVirt , but I can't tell how
good it is.
I doubt that oVirt nodes come with CEPH components , so you most probably will
need to use a full-blown distro. In general, using extra software on oVirt
nodes is quite hard .

With such setup, you will need much more nodes than a Gluster setup due to
CEPH's requirements.

Strahil Nikolov

Which version? oVirt 4.4 is not supported on CentOS 7. 4.3, which was supported
on CentOS 7, is EOL.

1. Check engine-setup log.

2. Search the net for the error messages you got.

[ovirt-users] About Translation

2021-01-17 Thread Reyhan Gülçetin
Hello,

I'm Reyhan! I am a third-grade physics engineering student in Turkey, I
also worked as a part-time system administration in the university's IT
Head Office until last month. (Now I'm more into DevOps). Back in there, I
was responsible for understanding how we can apply oVirt to our IT Office,
so I was scrolling through the documentations. I've decided to contribute,
oVirt could be the project I used the most, since I'm not a bug-fixer, at
least I can help with the translation. I'm a native Turkish speaker, so I
thought it would go well.

I wish you the best,
Best regards.

3. yes we just tried the new ovirt 4.4. then we decided to used fiber ports
and have it bonded. so we reinstalled everything from sratch.

4. Host 1 and the rest of the hosta was completely reinstalled from

Let me understand:

1. You had a hosted-engine setup. You started this by deploying on one
host, let's call it host1, and then added another one, let's call it
host2. Right? Perhaps you had more than 2, that's not the point, for
now.

2. At this point, you could migrate engine VM from host1 to host2 and
back and it all worked.

3. Then you decided to reinstall. It sounds like you reinstalled the
OS on host1, and then did another hosted-engine deployment there. Did
you also use backup? --restore-from-file? Did you use new storage?
Existing? If existing, did you clear it before reinstalling?

4. Assuming that you somehow got to a good state re host1, host2 now
still points at the old hosted-engine storage domain, so does not
"see" the new deployment. You should reinstall the OS there, and then
add it as a host to the new engine. Make sure you mark the checkbox
"hosted-engine" in "Add host" dialog.

Best regards,
