[ovirt-users] USB Redirection - Auto choose devices
Is there a way to auto choose which devices get redirected the the guest? [ovirt-users] USB turns off and wont come alive
I have 2 usb controllers installed via a riser card plugged into a M.2 slot. (Like those used for mining with GPU's). Everything works great for a long time, then my Windows 10 VM freezes and I lose all USB activity. LSPCI still sees the devices: 0a:00.0 USB controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1142 USB 3.1 Host Controller 44:00.0 USB controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1142 USB 3.1 Host Controller I assume a and b are the same physical card as its supposed to have 2 channels each, same with 44 and 43. I tried for both 44 and 43 echo "1" > /sys/bus/pci/devices/\:43\:00.0/remove echo "1" > /sys/bus/pci/rescan echo "1" > /sys/bus/pci/devices/\:43\:00.0/reset This did not work. I cannot determine if its just the VM thats no longer seeing/using the hardware or if its the hardware itself. I wonder if its a power state thing as well? Nothing I plug into the card seems to be recognized. Any Suggestions? rebooting the VM doesnt help either. It appears the hardware is functioning, but anything you plug into it isnt being detected. ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/site/privacy-policy/ oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/4ST2T3NEL3EP54ZWR5KF5RW4VHUCVFN6/
[ovirt-users] USB host support?
Hi, I'm in communication with a company that thinks about RHV. One of the requirements is USB host support (which will be on the nodes, not on the desktops). Re: [ovirt-users] USB 2.0 compatibility -- RESOLVED!
I was finally able to resolve this. So that maybe other users can find how to fix this if they run into the same issues: tl;dr: Edit the virtual machine in question, go under Console, make sure SPICE is chosen for graphics, and under "USB Redirection" choose "Native." When you reboot the VM, it will have both UHCI and EHCI (2.0) controllers. Now, any USB 2.0 devices that you attach will work correctly. Long version: I struggled with this for quite a while. While doing some additional research, I found a note in the 4.1.0 release notes referencing BZ 1373223. This particular note was for ppc64 architecture systems, but it curiously said that enabling USB Redirection under SPICE would change the USB controllers available on the host. I dug a little deeper into the bug thread and found a couple of references that seemed to indicate that x86/x86_64 exhibited the same behavior. Apparently, UHCI (1.1) is the default because it supports SmartCards, but the EHCI (2.0) controller does not. So, turning on USB Redirection under SPICE settings for the console enables an EHCI controller, thereby enabling devices that require USB 2.0. Personal opinion: This is really obfuscated. It would be great if this switch lived somewhere more obvious. Even if that doesn't happen, this should exist in a document somewhere. Maybe it does and I couldn't find it, but I tried! jonathan -- Jonathan Woytek http://www.dryrose.com KB3HOZ PGP: 462C 5F50 144D 6B09 3B65 FCE8 C1DC DEC4 E8B6 AABC ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users
[ovirt-users] USB 2.0 compatibility
Hello all. Please forgive me if this is covered officially somewhere, but my google-fu has been unable to help me find much recent information. I have a couple of devices (RTL SDR's) that require USB 2.0, but the pass through seems to only support a virtual 1.1 hub for devices. The devices are correctly recognized and configured by the hypervisor host, but when connected to a VM, they show up on a 1.1 hub, and the driver fails to load as a result. I have found some older information that only USB 1.1 devices were supported via USB pass through. I haven't found much newer information, though, and also couldn't find newer problem reports. I'm running 4.1, upgraded from a 4.0 installation, on Centos 7. I was hoping to build a little RF capture and analysis cluster using several of these devices, but this is a bit of a roadblock! Re: [ovirt-users] USB
Hi You can attach host device directly from virtual machines tab -> select VM -> host devices sub tab -> "add device" button. But first you need to verify your BIOS is supporting intel VT-d or AMD vi. And you also need to activate it in the kernel. The next link describes how to do it: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7/html/Virtualization_Deployment_and_Administration_Guide/chap-Guest_virtual_machine_device_configuration.html#sect-Guest_virtual_machine_device_configuration-PCI_devices note: Instead of adding "intel_iommu=pt" in the grub cmdline, add "intel_iommu=on" or "amd_iommu=on". Another thing worth mentioning, USB hotplug is not supported yet, so if your programmable device is resetting the USB connection each time you program it, the USB will be detached from the VM and you will have to attach it again in order to see it. Thanks, it's working. Here is what I did: On the server node: yum install -y vdsm-hook-hostusb systemctl restart vdsmd On the server engine: engine-config -s "UserDefinedVMProperties=hostusb=^0x[0-9a-fA-F]{4}:0x[0-9a-fA-F]{4}$" service ovirt-engine restart lsusb to find the device, Vendor and product ID Shutdown the VM, edit it (Advanced, Custom properties) Add a custom key, select hostusb and enter the key, in my case 0x04b9:0x0300 Save and start the VM, the USB device must be plugged into the server node. Re: [ovirt-users] USB Modem in a VM
Yes I made this : engine-config -s UserDefinedVMProperties=hostusb=0x0572:0x1321 and nothing appear on the Edit VM, only : - sndbuf - vhost - sap_agent - viodiskattach Is there any possibility to verify ? The first command I put engine-config -s UserDefinedVMProperties=hostusb=true;another_property=regexp following the doc, maybe this option is blocking the hook ? Hi, Lev, you are correct; there is nothing to install on the guest for Spice Native USB. On the client side there is a need for remote-viewer to be configured with USB redir enabled, and having access to the device (via libusb). On a Windows client currently we use WinUSB driver to enable access to the USB device. The driver can be installed using the usbclerk service or manually (e.g. with Zadig). It must be installed for each device to be redirected. On Ovirt, as mentioned, Native Spice USB option has to be enabled. (This would also add the virtual usb devices needed on the qemu-kvm/spice-server side). Hope that helps, Uri. The user/admin only needs to properly configure the VM for Native USB redirection and install the Spice client. I forwarded the issue to the Spice team, they could properly point to the issue. Re: [ovirt-users] USB Device selection
On St, 2014-07-16 at 08:50 -0400, Maurice James wrote: Does the driver get installed on the host or the vm? Neither, this applies to the client. The host just creates virtual USB hub and plugs redirected USB devices into it and guest sees the devices just as if they'd be plugged physically. Client system OTOH needs to handle the device in an unusual way so that spice/usbredir gets raw control over it - that's the reason why you need the WinUSB driver to be used for the device prior to actual redirection. On linux clients, a short-lived binary does similar magic with udev.
