[ovirt-users] USB Redirection - Auto choose devices

2022-12-29 Thread jamie.briscoe--- via Users
Is there a way to auto choose which devices get redirected the the guest? I
have a Windows 2022 VM and I can connect to is using the VM portal and Spice
(virt-viewer) and it opens fullscreen perfectly. Perfect VDI solution... Except
the fact that I have to click in the top menu and choose my usb devices every
time I connect to the vm... I need it to save my selections... Any way to do
this?

Hello,
I try to mount an usb key on one virtual machine (running linux) by adding it
to hosted devices.
But I can't active USB in "Console" menu, the field Enable USB is greyed.
How can I enable it ?
Best regards.

[ovirt-users] USB turns off and wont come alive

2019-07-23 Thread Darin Schmidt
I have 2 usb controllers installed via a riser card plugged into a M.2 slot.
(Like those used for mining with GPU's). Everything works great for a long
time, then my Windows 10 VM freezes and I lose all USB activity. LSPCI still
sees the devices:

0a:00.0 USB controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1142 USB 3.1 Host Controller
0b:00.0 USB controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1142 USB 3.1 Host Controller
43:00.0 USB controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1142 USB 3.1 Host Controller
44:00.0 USB controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1142 USB 3.1 Host Controller

I assume a and b are the same physical card as its supposed to have 2 channels
each, same with 44 and 43.

I tried for both 44 and 43

echo "1" > /sys/bus/pci/devices/\:43\:00.0/remove
echo "1" > /sys/bus/pci/rescan
echo "1" > /sys/bus/pci/devices/\:43\:00.0/reset

This did not work. I cannot determine if its just the VM thats no longer
seeing/using the hardware or if its the hardware itself. I wonder if its a
power state thing as well? Nothing I plug into the card seems to be recognized.
Any Suggestions? rebooting the VM doesnt help either. It appears the hardware
is functioning, but anything you plug into it isnt being detected.

[ovirt-users] USB host support?

2019-07-01 Thread Hetz Ben Hamo
Hi,

I'm in communication with a company that thinks about RHV.

One of the requirements is USB host support (which will be on the nodes,
not on the desktops). I haven't found any way to connect USB to a VM other
then through SPICE, but this method won't help as these dongles won't be on
desktops.

Is this in the road map of oVirt?

Thanks

[ovirt-users] USB Passtrough device problem

2019-06-18 Thread Juan Pablo Lorier

Hi,

I've tried to use 2 different audio IO interfaces connected to a VM via
USB passthrough and none worked.

I've tried with win 10 and win server 2016 vms with different errors but
none worked.

I've connected the devices to a host, then attached the host device to a
VM and in the VM properties I've enabled the USB support in the console
properties.

The devices are installed and don't show any error in the device manager
within the VM, but they don't work.

Should I do something else?

If the UI is not intuitive enough, we need newbies to tell this - experienced
users do not notice anymore...

Re docs - IMO best is to make sure that the search terms that people might
use when searching for solutions, will return good results. People do not
read docs like books. So if you did that and didn't find anything easily,
it means we should improve the docs.

I would, but I felt uncomfortable doing that, as I'm still an oVirt newb. I

Re: [ovirt-users] USB 2.0 compatibility -- RESOLVED!

2017-02-08 Thread Jonathan Woytek
I was finally able to resolve this. So that maybe other users can find how
to fix this if they run into the same issues:

tl;dr:
Edit the virtual machine in question, go under Console, make sure SPICE is
chosen for graphics, and under "USB Redirection" choose "Native." When you
reboot the VM, it will have both UHCI and EHCI (2.0) controllers. Now, any
USB 2.0 devices that you attach will work correctly.

Long version:
I struggled with this for quite a while. While doing some additional
research, I found a note in the 4.1.0 release notes referencing BZ 1373223.
This particular note was for ppc64 architecture systems, but it curiously
said that enabling USB Redirection under SPICE would change the USB
controllers available on the host. I dug a little deeper into the bug
thread and found a couple of references that seemed to indicate that
x86/x86_64 exhibited the same behavior. Apparently, UHCI (1.1) is the
default because it supports SmartCards, but the EHCI (2.0) controller does
not. So, turning on USB Redirection under SPICE settings for the console
enables an EHCI controller, thereby enabling devices that require USB 2.0.

Personal opinion:
This is really obfuscated. It would be great if this switch lived somewhere
more obvious. Even if that doesn't happen, this should exist in a document
somewhere. Maybe it does and I couldn't find it, but I tried!

[ovirt-users] USB 2.0 compatibility

2017-02-07 Thread Jonathan Woytek
Hello all. Please forgive me if this is covered officially somewhere, but
my google-fu has been unable to help me find much recent information. I
have a couple of devices (RTL SDR's) that require USB 2.0, but the pass
through seems to only support a virtual 1.1 hub for devices. The devices
are correctly recognized and configured by the hypervisor host, but when
connected to a VM, they show up on a 1.1 hub, and the driver fails to load
as a result.

I have found some older information that only USB 1.1 devices were
supported via USB pass through. I haven't found much newer information,
though, and also couldn't find newer problem reports.

I'm running 4.1, upgraded from a 4.0 installation, on Centos 7.

I was hoping to build a little RF capture and analysis cluster using
several of these devices, but this is a bit of a roadblock! Any ideas?

USB passthrough does not require IOMMU, only PCI devices do. The docs need
improvement in that regard.

Re: [ovirt-users] USB

2016-05-15 Thread Nisim Simsolo
Hi

You can attach host device directly from virtual machines tab -> select VM
-> host devices sub tab -> "add device" button.

But first you need to verify your BIOS is supporting intel VT-d or AMD vi.
And you also need to activate it in the kernel. The next link describes how
to do it:
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7/html/Virtualization_Deployment_and_Administration_Guide/chap-Guest_virtual_machine_device_configuration.html#sect-Guest_virtual_machine_device_configuration-PCI_devices

note: Instead of adding "intel_iommu=pt" in the grub cmdline, add
"intel_iommu=on" or "amd_iommu=on".

Another thing worth mentioning, USB hotplug is not supported yet, so if
your programmable device is resetting the USB connection each time you
program it, the USB will be detached from the VM and you will have to
attach it again in order to see it.

[ovirt-users] USB drive Windows problem.

2015-11-05 Thread David David
Hi

I am using Hostusb hook on ovirt 3.5, centos6.6.
And I am facing problem while adding usb drive to windows2012 as a guest.
Usb device is passed through to the guest.
But in windows device manager usb mass storage device shows an exclamation
mark. And error message is: "This device cannot start: (Code 10)"
In linux VM usb drive works without problem.

how to fix it?

here is xml of the windows guest:

Re: [ovirt-users] USB

2015-10-05 Thread suporte
Thanks, it's working.
Here is what I did:

On the server node:
yum install -y vdsm-hook-hostusb
systemctl restart vdsmd

On the server engine:
engine-config -s
"UserDefinedVMProperties=hostusb=^0x[0-9a-fA-F]{4}:0x[0-9a-fA-F]{4}$"
service ovirt-engine restart

lsusb to find the device, Vendor and product ID
Shutdown the VM, edit it (Advanced, Custom properties)
Add a custom key, select hostusb and enter the key, in my case 0x04b9:0x0300
Save and start the VM, the USB device must be plugged into the server node.

Yes, installing and enabling hostusb vdsm hook.

also note in 3.6 there will be native support for host devices passthrough and
you won't need any hook
PCI and USB (USB has a libvirt permission issue currently so will probably
really work only in 3.6.1/3.6.2 once EL7.2 is available)

Thanks,

Then define a custom property called hostusb and set it to
hostusb=VendorId:ProductId getting that values from lsusb on the host.
The VM must be pinned to the host and live-migration will not be possible,

you don't need to know python.
did you run the engine side commands (engine-config -s
UserDefinedVMProperties... and restarted the engine)?

Hi,

Can you tell me if I can use an USB modem through one of the
hypervisor hosts to a Windows VM ?

I’d like to install a Windows Fax Server.

Thank you for your answers.

should be possible using qemu args: -usbdevice
host:vendor_id:product_id

in libvirt replace @VENDOR@ and @DEVICE@ to device specific properties:

domain type='kvm'
 name.../name
 …
 devices
   …
   hostdev mode='subsystem' type='usb'
 source
   vendor id='0x@VENDOR@'/
   product id='0x@DEVICE@'/
 /source
   /hostdev
 /devices
/domain

if this option is not exposed in ui you can use vdsm-hooks[1] to modify the
libvirt configuration and inject such device.

Re: [ovirt-users] USB Modem in a VM

2015-01-19 Thread VONDRA Alain
Yes I made this :
engine-config -s UserDefinedVMProperties=hostusb=0x0572:0x1321
and nothing appear on the Edit VM, only :
- sndbuf
- vhost
- sap_agent
- viodiskattach

Is there any possibility to verify ?
The first command I put engine-config -s
UserDefinedVMProperties=hostusb=true;another_property=regexp following the
doc, maybe this option is blocking the hook ?

 Hi,
I've tried also to inject the device with virsh attach-device, all seems to
work but nothing happen in the VM :

 [root@unc-srv-hyp2 ~]$ virsh attach-device unc-srv-prnt3 usb-modem.xml
Please enter your authentication name: root
 Please enter your password:
 Device attached successfully

What did I do wrong, any ideas ?

Hello,
One possibility might be the fact that libvirt itself doesn't have managed mode
for USB devices and I'm not sure virt-manager has the appropriate routine
handled.

Could you try running
$ virsh nodedev-list
to find the correct usb device and then
# virsh nodedev-detach the_usb_device
or posibly nodedev-dettach if you run older libvirt?

After that, try starting VM with hostdev element added to XML.

I've unload the cdc_acm kernel module via rmmod without success.
I've also tried to edit the xml appending the ID and VENDDOR tags :

   Hi,

Can you tell me if I can use an USB modem through one of the
hypervisor hosts to a Windows VM ?

I’d like to install a Windows Fax Server.

   Thank you for your answers.

should be possible using qemu args: -usbdevice host:vendor_id:product_id

in libvirt replace @VENDOR@ and @DEVICE@ to device specific properties:

  domain type='kvm'
name.../name
…
devices
  …
  hostdev mode='subsystem' type='usb'
source
  vendor id='0x@VENDOR@'/
  product id='0x@DEVICE@'/
/source
  /hostdev
/devices
  /domain

if this option is not exposed in ui you can use vdsm-hooks[1] to modify the
libvirt configuration and inject such device.

  Alon

seems to work but nothing happen in the VM :

What did I do wrong, any ideas ?

Hello,
One possibility might be the fact that libvirt itself doesn't have managed mode
for USB devices and I'm not sure virt-manager has the appropriate routine
handled.

Could you try running
$ virsh nodedev-list
to find the correct usb device and then
# virsh nodedev-detach the_usb_device
or posibly nodedev-dettach if you run older libvirt?

After that, try starting VM with hostdev element added to XML.

  Hi,
I've tried also to inject the device with virsh attach-device, all
seems to work but nothing happen in the VM :

  [root@unc-srv-hyp2 ~]$ virsh attach-device unc-srv-prnt3
usb-modem.xml Please enter your authentication name: root Please
  enter your password:
  Device attached successfully

What did I do wrong, any ideas ?

 Hello,
One possibility might be the fact that libvirt itself doesn't have
managed mode for USB devices and I'm not sure virt-manager has the
 appropriate routine handled.

 Could you try running
 $ virsh nodedev-list
to find the correct usb device and then # virsh nodedev-detach
the_usb_device or posibly nodedev-dettach if you run older libvirt?

After that, try starting VM with hostdev element added to XML.

I've replaced with openReadOnly(0), but had a argument 1 must be string or

I put the VM name in openReadOnly(unc-srv-prnt3) and I had this issue :

It will list libvirt XML for all of the devices, you just need to find

should be possible using qemu args: -usbdevice host:vendor_id:product_id

in libvirt replace @VENDOR@ and @DEVICE@ to device specific properties:

 domain type='kvm'
   name.../name
   …
   devices
 …
 hostdev mode='subsystem' type='usb'
   source
 vendor id='0x@VENDOR@'/

 /hostdev

 /domain

if this option is not exposed in ui you can use vdsm-hooks[1] to modify the
libvirt configuration and inject such device.

As far as I know there is no need to install something inside VM for the

  Hi,

Lev, you are correct; there is nothing to install on the guest for Spice
  Native USB.

On the client side there is a need for remote-viewer to be configured with
  USB redir enabled,

and having access to the device (via libusb).

On a Windows client currently we use WinUSB driver to enable access to the
  USB device.

The driver can be installed using the usbclerk service or manually (e.g.
  with
  Zadig).

It must be installed for each device to be redirected.

On Ovirt, as mentioned, Native Spice USB option has to be enabled.

(This would also add the virtual usb devices needed on the
  qemu-kvm/spice-server side).

  Hope that helps,

  Uri.

The user/admin only needs to properly configure the VM for Native USB
redirection and install the Spice client.

I forwarded the issue to the Spice team, they could properly point to the
   issue.

   Thanks in advance,

Hi,

Lev, you are correct; there is nothing to install on the guest for Spice
Native USB.

On the client side there is a need for remote-viewer to be configured
with USB redir enabled,

and having access to the device (via libusb).
On a Windows client currently we use WinUSB driver to enable access to
the USB device.
The driver can be installed using the usbclerk service or manually (e.g.
with Zadig).

I forwarded the issue to the Spice team, they could properly point to the issue.

Thanks in advance,
Lev Veyde.

The issue is the VM Edit window not loading current value
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1104318), but you can check
the current value in VM General sub-tab.

Could you share the exact ovirt-engine version you're using?

Hi Maurice,

I suppose you use Windows client, is it the case? If so, yo either have
to install WinUSB driver for each device manually, or you need to build
usbclerk service, or you need some other tool such as zadig. See this

Neither, this applies to the client. The host just creates virtual USB
hub and plugs redirected USB devices into it and guest sees the
devices just as if they'd be plugged physically.

Client system OTOH needs to handle the device in an unusual way so that
spice/usbredir gets raw control over it - that's the reason why you need
the WinUSB driver to be used for the device prior to actual redirection.

On linux clients, a short-lived binary does similar magic with udev.

David

Hi,

I have installed to vdsm-hook-hostusb with yum, but I cannot find the option in
custom properties in ovirt.

Is this plugin does automatically enabled?
How can I enabled it?

Thanks in advance!

[ovirt-users] USB redirection

2014-06-02 Thread Jean-Pierre WEISS

Hi,

I'm trying to redirect USB devices on a Windows 7 vm. But,
after searching the web, I didn't find any procedure to do this.

Here
is my configuration :

Host : CentOS 6.5 with ovirt 3.4.0.1-el6

vm :
Windows 7 with the virtio drivers (virtio-win- 0.1.74) installed,
spice-guest-tools-0.74, and ovirt-guest-agent installed.

All is
working fine, except that I can see the USB devices connected to the
client.

Any clue ?

Thanks,

It is very important me, because we need to virtualize a physical host
that use hardware tokens (usb hw key).
I didn't find any option for this.

btw, the host devices passthrough is on our list for 3.6 as well…that would
eliminate the need for a hook

 Thanks in advance
