[xwiki-users] Public Wiki Access: XWiki.XWikiGuest

2016-09-02 Thread Patrick Masson
Looking to change access rights to public wiki: non-reg users can view, but
not edit. Reviewing this page:
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Access+Rights I am told
to add a new user "XWiki.XWikiGuest" where do I add that?

Re: [xwiki-users] Who is watching?

2014-10-11 Thread Patrick Masson

Thanks Vincent, these will will be useful and I have installed them.

One issue with the Chat for anyone... it seems to be hanging with a
Disconnecting notice and status bar (see attached). Looking at the
documentation, I see there are some compatibility constraints around
Jetty, We are hosted so I do not know what our environment is or if this
would be a symptom.

Per my specific question, I was looking for (I hate to say this)
something like the confluence feature described here:
https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Managing+Watchers

Thanks,
Patrick

[xwiki-users] Email not required to register

2014-09-25 Thread Patrick Masson
We've received a few questions from new users trying to register for the
wiki.

The registration form does not require an email to be entered in the
email field. If it is not supplied, and the form submitted, the newly
registered user cannot log in as they need a validation key that was
emailed to them (but remember, no email entered).

Here is a demo: http://youtu.be/xk0t7Hf3rQY

Is this a local issue that I can fix in the admin panels (we do want to
confirm users email), or is this an issue with the registration form itself?

Thanks,
Patrick

[xwiki-users] Prevent regular users from creating new spaces

2014-07-31 Thread Patrick Masson
Per the documentation at:
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Access+Rights#HPreventregularusersfromcreatingnewspaces

You can restrict the creation of new spaces to users with
administrative privileges by following these steps:
In the global rights, deny write access to the XWikiAllGroup
group and the XWikiGuest user and allow edit access to the
   XWikiAdminGroup group
In each space rights, allow write access to the XWikiAllGroup group

However looking at the Administration: Rights at
'mywiki/bin/admin/XWiki/XWikiPreferences?editor=globaladminsection=Rights#...'
I do not see a an option for write access as mentioned in the
documentation. Is this the same as edit as listed in the Groups User
permissions table?

Also I do not have an XWikiGuest group (as I do not have a public wiki)
but just want to be sure I am working though the right admin panel.

Thanks,
Patrick

XWikiGuest is a user, not a group, so to see it you have to switch the

Re: [xwiki-users] Turn off comments on one page only?

2014-04-30 Thread Patrick Masson
Manuel Smeria (from the XWiki crew) provided the answer to my question I
posted (thanks) and I thought I would pass it on to other newbies like
me. Also I would be happy to add this to the documentation (FAQ)
somewhere if folks think it is appropriate--just tell me where. I did
post the response to the one reference I mentioned below:
http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/FAQ/Howtodisablecommentsandattachments

While I could not find my answer in the documentation, it might have
simply been due to my perspective of the problem, i.e. looking at this
from a comments management, rather than a rights management,
perspective. Or, maybe I am just an idiot and the answer is out there
and I couldn't figure it out.

Either way as I am probably not the only clueless person, I'd thought
I'd share.

Thanks Manuel for you help,
Patrick

Hello Patrick,

You can disable comments for your page by following these steps:
* Edit the document's access rights (go to your page, scroll over Edit - click
Access Rights)
* Click on the Users radio button
* Click on the Comment checkbox for Unregistered Users (first row) twice until
you see a red Deny icon

[xwiki-users] Posting again: Can admins see MyDashboards?

2014-04-01 Thread Patrick Masson

Asking again with more detail...

I'm concerned some may be using the MyDashboard feature of their profile
page to post inappropriate content. For example, a spam user could
register for an account, and then make pages private to a group and the
organization and admin may not know. Let's say a user was using our site
to post/distribute/develop child pornography or malware?

What access rights do admins have on pages that are located off the
MyDashboard or where permissions are set so that only some registered
users may see them? I tested this my creating a private page on my
profile's MyDashboard, then logged in as Admin. When, as Admin, I
searched the Document Index in a space by my user id, I did see the
private pages. However, with 100's of users this might not be practical.

I guess I am really trying to understand best practices that others may
use in managing the wiki to avoid nefarious use.

Thanks
Patrick

[xwiki-users] Too many profiles

2014-03-19 Thread Patrick Masson
I'm seeing many many folks registering for our wiki, which is great I
guess, but I am a bit concerned.

Our wiki is set up as a public wiki where registrants need to fill out
the captcha and have a valid email. However I am seeing quite a few
registrations each day (profiles being created) and then no activity.
These folks are not vandalizing the site or adding spam/adds/etc. Indeed
they do not seem to be doing anything.

Maybe our site is just boring and lame, and does not inspire any
participation, but it just seems weird.

Should I be concerned? Is there anyway I can send a bulk message to all
users to test the emails or ask folks why they joined?

Thanks,
Patrick

[xwiki-users] Inheritable access rights

2014-02-25 Thread Patrick Masson
I was wondering if there was a way for a child page created via a link
form a parent page to inherit the parent's access rights?

For example, in the breadcrumbs on a page, I might have...
Wiki Home » Board of Directors » Board Meeting Notes » March 5th, 2014
Notes

The access rights on Board Meeting Notes page is set so that only a
specific group, Directors can view the page. However, I must
manually set the access rights on March 5th, 2014 Notes to view when
I create/edit the page. I would like all of the pages linked off of
this page to inherit the same permissions so I do not need to manually
(or forget) to set permissions everytime a new notes page under Board
Meeting Notes is created.

I'll admit to being bias to Confluence's approach--which does not mean
it is right--it's just what I am used to. XWiki may offer a better way
to manage permissions and I am just ignorant of it.

Thanks,
Patrick

XWiki has space rights, so currently you can move all the meeting notes
in a different space.

Or, move the whole Board of Directors in a space, by default deny access
to all documents in that space, and explicitly make a few pages public
if most of the documents will need to be private.

Re: [xwiki-users] How to add a Js library into a page from CDN?

2014-02-25 Thread Patrick Masson

Hi Boudjelda (and Marius),

I was wondering if you ever found a solution for this? I would like to
add TogetherJS to XWiki (see: https://togetherjs.com/#tryitout-section)
but am not sure how to insert the JS source into the page head.

I went through the suggested steps:

1st, created a new object for the page myurl/Sandbox/WebHome/, Edit
- Objects:

Objects of type XWiki.JavaScriptExtension
- JavaScriptExtension 0: TogetherJS

Code:
document.observe('xwiki:dom:loaded', function() {
script src=https://togetherjs.com/togetherjs-min.js;/script
}

Then in the page I added:

{{velocity}}
$xwiki.jsx.use(XWiki.SkinExt)
{{/velocity}}

{{velocity}}
#set ($discard = $xwiki.ssx.use('Sandbox.WebHome'))
#set ($discard = $xwiki.jsx.use('Sandbox.WebHome'))
{{/velocity}}

{{html}}
button onclick=TogetherJS(this); return false;Start TogetherJS/button
{{/html}}

Any ideas?

Thanks Patrick

Note that whatever you put in the content of a wiki page the result is
inserted in the BODY tag of the final HTML page so generating the HEAD
tag in the content of a wiki page is wrong.

Your best option is to load the JavaScript and CSS dynamically
following this steps:

(1) Define a JavaScript/CSS extension. See
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/DevGuide/SkinExtensionsTutorial
.
(2) For CSS you simply use @import. For JavaScript you listen to page
load and then inject a SCRIPT tags in the existing HEAD of the HTML
page.

document.observe('xwiki:dom:loaded', function() {
// Inject the script tag here.
})
(3) Whenever you need the JavaScript/CSS you use

{{velocity}}
#set ($discard = $xwiki.ssx.use('Space.PageWithSSX'))
#set ($discard = $xwiki.jsx.use('Space.PageWithJSX'))
{{/velocity}}

You may want to take a look at
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/jQuery+Helpers .
Also note that we're using Prototype.js in XWiki everywhere so you
need to handle the conflicts with jQuery.

Hope this helps,
Marius

[xwiki-users] Multi-page Table of Contents

2014-02-03 Thread Patrick Masson
I found this and would like to use it but it looks like it might not be
current:
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Multipage+Table+Of+Contents

One reference I found suggested it is based on xwiki1.0. I tweaked it a
bit but could not get the urls to replace the spaces in the page titles
with the +

Any advice?

Also, perhaps the best approach is to use the tree functionality in
the Document Index?

Thanks all,
Patrick

Oh, and let me know if you need any help.

What would be wicked is if xwiki wikis (deployed locally or through
XWikiSAS) could select to show their location on the XWiki master map.
That is, I add my location on wiki.opensource.org, and it shows up on
xwiki.org. That would be a great way to create community.

Right, I had added a link which referenced my longitude and latitude in
the URL, so when anyone clicked the link it rendered the map pointing to

However your point about maintaining two sets of documentation would be a
pain and not a good idea.

Not sure I understood your point! :) Could you explain why it’s not a good idea
to try to have to maintain documentation content in a single place? I
understand that we need several ways to reach a documentation place and I agree
with having a FAQ entry for this precise example for that reason. However, I
really think we need to try to have all documentation about a given feature in
a single location as much as possible.

Hmm reading my comment I see how poorly it was written--I was agreeing
with you. Let me try again...

However your point about maintaining two sets of documentation [is a
good one, that I had not considered and it ] would be a pain [to
maintain redundant FAQ content as the technical aspects (and thus
possibly the user interface) of XWiki changed] and [thus my approach is]
not a good idea.

Maybe I am just addressing the wrong problem. My issue was that I could not find the
existing documentation. I restored your version and just added on how to
restore deleted pages/attachments.”

I’ve also edited a bit the documentation page at
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Index+Application

It’s now linked from 2 places I know of:
-
http://main.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/FAQ/How+do+I+restore+a+deleted+page+or+attachment
- http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Features/DocumentLifecycle#HRestore
(which is the first entry I get in google when I search for “xwiki restore
deleted attachment”)

Hope it’s now easier to get that information from the onset! :)

Always happy to be the lowest common denominator.

Thanks for your help!

Sorry to be a pest.

Patrick

Re: [xwiki-users] Recycle bin /Trash

2014-01-13 Thread Patrick Masson
Vincent, I added a comment on the page with my thoughts (not sure of how
the continue the discussion - in the users group or on the wiki page).

My rationale is in the comment:

I got your email and saw your edits, I am just thinking answering
the question directly and pointing to the documentation would have
been most helpful to me when I was looking.

Interesting before I sent the note to the user's list, I searched
for xwiki restore deleted document, xwiki recycle bin xwiki
trash etc. and did not find the Index Application page. In
addition, I also searched xwiki.org for restore deleted page and
   did not find anything.

I think the challenge for me as a newbie is that I do not know the
nomenclature of xwiki yet. I do not know how I (or other newbies)
would have known to look for the Index Application?

What do you think? Hope my merging of our efforts is OK?

However your point about maintaining two sets of documentation would be
a pain and not a good idea. Maybe I am just addressing the wrong
problem. My issue was that I could not find the existing documentation.
I restored your version and just added on how to restore deleted
pages/attachments.

Thanks,
Patrick

Do you really believe it’s better to have to maintain 2 places?

My POV was that it’s always easier to maintain a single place and have
the FAQ entry point to the right documentation.

If you think the documentation isn’t good enough at

Thanks Patrick! Very nice initiative :)

I’ve made some small modifications:
* First I’ve renamed the page so that the page name isn’t too long

automatically added to the title when the FAQ entry is rendered
* I’ve linked to the Index Application which is where the

Worst case scenario, if this does not work either (after clearing your

I have experienced in the past as well. Perhaps the restart will force a
proper registration.

In either case, you`re very close to making it work. You`re just left with
the CSS(SSX) of the application (AnnotationCode.Style) not loading, that is
why stuff is not displayed properly (as I`ve explained in my previous mail)

button seems to show up. That is great.

However, I see that there are problems in displaying the Annotations box
that pops up when pressing the Annotations button (plus there is no icon
for the Annotations button). This means that you need to re-save (with the
Admin user which has PR) another page which handles the styling of the
Annotations application. This page is:
http://wiki.opensource.org/xwiki/bin/view/AnnotationCode/Style

Once you handle this step as well, you should be good and the Annotations
app should be running well. Just remember to refresh your browser`s cache
after you resave the Style page. Select some text in a page (where you
have
some content, of course), press CTRL+M and the annotation popup should
appear asking you to comment on the selected piece of text.

Hope this helped,
Eduard

If that does not show up, then there is a problem with the extension's JSX

I am not sure how to find the page AnnotationCode.Script.
I did find

I also checked and both my Admin account and the group that account is

Any help appreciated, thanks,

Yes, some (most) wiki pages/spaces should be available to unregistered

I am not sure how to find the page AnnotationCode.Script.

Whenever we mention a page name in XWiki in the form SomeSpace.SomePage,
that page can be located by going to the URL: http://
hostname:port/xwiki/bin/view/SomeSpace/SomePage
In your case, the page I was referring to is:
http://wiki.opensource.org/xwiki/bin/view/AnnotationCode/Script

Please try to resave that page as Admin (with PR) and then refresh your
browser`s cache (CTRL+F5 if using Firefox, for example).

Does this make the Annotations button show up?
Yes , that made the Annotations button show up-thanks. Also thanks for
your help with the nomenclature.

However (I know it never ends, sorry), the functionality is not what I
expect based on the page you shared:
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Annotations+Application#HShowannotations

First, when I highlight the word that I want to annotate and hit
ctrl+m a text window appears up at the very bottom left hand side of
the wiki page, almost off the page-not over the text in a window like in
the screen shots you provided. I have uploaded some screen shots to show
this from Windows IE, Mac Safari and Ubuntu Firefox and Chrome
(http://wiki.opensource.org/xwiki/bin/view/OSI+Operations/Enterprise+Wiki+%28XWiki%29#Attachments).

Second, while I can select (highlight) text, write an annotation
(ctrl+m), save that so that it appears in the comments section of the
wiki page, the originally selected text is not highlighted in the body
of the page, again as seen in the screenshots you provided. If you look
at this page
(http://wiki.opensource.org/xwiki/bin/view/OSI+Operations/Enterprise+Wiki+%28XWiki%29),
you will see there are no highlighted words showing the three
annotations I made.

Perhaps I should add this to JIRA?

Hi Patrick,

Wanting to go to bed, I checked your site and you seem to have resaved the
page I`ve asked you to: AnnotationCode.Script. This seems to have had the
right effect of enabling the Annotations javascript and now the Annotations
button seems to show up.

Select some text in a page (where you have
some content, of course), press CTRL+M and the annotation popup should
appear asking you to comment on the selected piece of text.

Hope this helped,
Eduard

[xwiki-users] Annotations not available

2013-12-02 Thread Patrick Masson
I have a hosted (xwiki.com) Enterprise XWiki and would like to enable
the Annotations feature
(http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Annotations+Application).
They do not appear now.

After reviewing the above page, I am able to activate the Annotations
tab, however the I cannot find out how to turn on / make available the
annotations tool itself to create the annotations. That is, I do not
have the Annotations tool button in the Edit Export More Actions
header on the top of the page (see attached image).
Annotations are not available to the Admin role, as a registered user or
anonymous user.
I have tried the Ctrl + M (Meta + M) as well, thinking this still might
work even without the button, but nothing happens.
The Annotations plugin is installed (as I said I, can see the
Annotations tab on each page across the wiki at the top and bottom
next to Comments Attachments etc.).

I am running the XWiki.DefaultSkin running the Mint color theme.
I have tried viewing on Ubuntu Firefox and Chrome; Mac Safari 6 and
Windows IE10.
Within the Annotations Application on the Administration page I have the
settings at:

 * Annotations are activated: YES
 * Except for the following spaces: NONE selected
 * Display annotations by default: YES
 * Display annotations highlight by default: YES
 * XWiki class defining annotations structure: XWiki.XWikiComments
(this was already set--default?-- when I first visited the page).
I do see a note on the Annotations page, /If you are using a custom
annotations class other than the previously default/
   AnnotationsCode.AnnotationsClass /in the annotations configuration.../

I have cleared my browser cache after selecting and saving the above.

I have searched the FAQ:
http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/FAQCode/FAQSearch?space=FAQtext=Annotations

I have searched the lists and found:

 * http://xwiki.475771.n2.nabble.com/Annotations-not-working-td7345638.html
 *
http://xwiki.475771.n2.nabble.com/Annotations-comments-merge-validation-td7582245.html
This thread indicates XWiki.XWikiComments is correct, /Basically
the new format is XWiki.XWikiComments class instead of the old /
   AnnotationCode.AnnotationClass
 *
http://xwiki.475771.n2.nabble.com/Re-display-issues-in-IE-td7587297.html#a7587298

Any advise appreciated, thanks,
Patrick

However, I am not sure the instructions provide the detail needed to

/First, go to the presentation section of the administration page.

1. Logged in as an administrator, I go to the WIKI: xwiki menu and

2. I then go to Presentation under the Look and Feel tab on the
   left hand navigation

/Add the following lines in the HTTP Meta Information :/

/link rel=icon href=$xwiki.getSkinFile(favicon.ico)//
//type=image/x-icon/ link rel=shortcut icon//
//href=$xwiki.getSkinFile(favicon.ico) type=image/x-icon//

1. I cannot find the HTTP Meta Information on the presentation section
   of the administration page.
2. The only fields available are:
1. Skin Customize = XWiki.DefaultSkin
2. Stylesheet = style.css
3. Stylesheets = style.css

/Then, visit the XWiki.DefaultSkin page and attach a favicon.ico file./

1. I have been able to upload my favicon to the XWiki.DefaultSkin page
   (http://[mywikidomain].xwiki.com/xwiki/bin/view/XWiki/DefaultSkin)
by going to ADD in the menu bar and clicking Attachment to page.
   The icon is viewable at

http://[mywikidomain].xwiki.com/xwiki/bin/download/XWiki/DefaultSkin/favicon.png

/Finally, the most important, refresh your browser cache. /

Thanks,

Would be great to add a FAQ entry at
http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/FAQ/ for this as a first step.

Then I think it would be nice to make this easier to do… Would be nice
if someone could open a jira issue for this on http://jira.xwiki.org

Thanks

-Vincent

Thanks,
Patrick

[xwiki-users] [myxwiki] new wiki request

2013-11-27 Thread Patrick Masson

XWiki Crew,

The Open Source Initiative (www.opensource.org) would like to migrate
from our current wiki, Dokuwiki, to XWiki. The goal of the effort is to
increase participation and collaboration among the broader open source
community through a platform that enables distributed groups to readily
find and contribute to the efforts of the OSI.

The wiki will be used (edited) by internal OSI staff, the Board of
Directors and OSI members (individuals, partners on various projects,
representatives from affiliate organizations and our corporate
sponsors). While we hope to see increasing use, currently the realistic
number of accounts would be less than 50 and actual authors/editors
would be around 20.

Per you instructions, I (username: Patrick Masson) have registered at
wiki.org. We would request our server name to be, 'osi.mywiki.org'

Thank you,
Patrick
