I hate to arrive late to this conversation, but feel I must get my 2
cents in. IMHO using GM's Dex cool would be a huge mistake. Now without
getting into the rant that I submitted the last time we discussed this, I
will attempt to relay some of the horrors that Dex Cool creates. Picture a

Does anyone know the "true" difference in rear wheel horsepower if

Actually, I machined those except I can't remember the dimensions. They

I am deployed in ALBQ right now. My Max is giving me fits. I switched to 20W50
Kendoll oil recomended by Dale Walker(I know, I know). The problem I am having is
that my Max is drinking about a quart of oil about every 1000 miles. There is no oil
leaks and no smoke in the exhaust. Mr Max
Kraig, drain that horse piss out and put Mobil 1 in, If you can't find

Shaft drive on the Max is 73% efficient. Chain drive is 93% and belt drive

Jim, most slip-ons don't need a jet change. Until you install and ride,
then make changes as needed. Too many poeple have been told they have to
put a jet kit in a stock exhaust max. BS! All it does is drop your
mileage, 8-10 or more mpg, and no power gain. A KN is easier to clean
than stock, but
Kraig,
I had the same problem with Mobil 1. I was lossing a quart about every
800-1000 miles. In addition, the max was leaking oil. I went back to castrol
20-50w and the leaking stopped and the oil level as not moved.

Where was your bike leaking? I have checked the shifter... clean as can be. Any

I saw some Pennzoil 25w-50 racing oil in a auto parts store. It's not
recomended for newer cars because it's the older SH type oil but should be ok
in a motorcycle. I never even heard of a 25w-50 before, anyone ever try this
stuff?

Kraig,
To the best of my visual inspection, the oil leak appeared to be coming from
the left side clutch piston cover. I torqued the bolts down and additional 5
Nm but that didn't help. The synthetic oil must have smaller molecules then
the petroleum based oils thus allowing the oil to get

Thanks I'll check the clutch. What is killing me is that my bike is only 18 months
old and 8,000 miles. I have changed the oil at 700 miles(after the brake in) and then
every 2000 miles or sooner. Used nothing but Yamaha Race lube and Yamaha filters too.
This is my first case of Kindell
On the Impalla SS group, there has been a lot of discussion on the problems

Hey , I got mine a couple of years ago , I showed my wife an old price list that
had it for about $370 then had to pay close to $600 Canadian . I never have told

Hello All,
I went to start my bike this year for the first time recently. I needed to
charge my battery , which I did. I never prepped it for the N.J. winter and
had stored it with very little gas in the tank. I know this is a bad move. So
I go to start it and it runs fine with choke on but

Is there some place that it would leak from/burn only at highway speeds?
Well, if it's not dripping out and it's not going out the tail pipe, have
you taken a look in the airbox? That's about the only other place I can
think of that it might be going.

Kraig,
Where I live it is hot as well 90-100 degrees every day and I use Silkolene

which is the oil of choice around here and it works great .A quart/1000 mi.
sounds like a lot to me I would try a 20-50 oil and see what happens.
Take care Marius

John, you got work to do. The carbs need to come apart, soaked in
cleaner for a day or so. You may need to replace the slow jets as they
have only a .013-.015 hole in them. The gas tank probably has all kinds
of crap in it. When you tried to start it, a bunch of BS in the tank is
