Since you're using a pre-packaged build, I'd go here:
There is no way to enable this function in the FreeBSD port of vpopmail.
If you install from ports...
Thus it wouldnt be possible to enable that, unless matt's scripts do some
patches etc. over some things, yet I dont see why?!

Are you sure it recompiled properly?
Try 'make clean' then 'make'.

Well, I use 5.3.20 with freebsd from ports too, without matts stuff...
I didnt use those scripts because I figured out if something goes wrong
then I would need to dig into them and figure out what the scripts did.
Well figure out which options those scripts use when it compiles vpopmail
