 What are logs saying about rejected/lost messages?

The logs say nothing.

Is there any chkuser log in /var/log/maillog (or whener you keep your logs)?

Are your logs active?

My starting script has
/var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd-smtp 21 | splogger mymxname
in the last line (I don't use supervise), so my chkuser logs are active.

If your logs are active and see no chkuser logs, problem is elsewhere.

What I had noticed is that sending through an email
client, the messages do not appear to hit my system at all and are sent to
my mailbackup. once i switch back, the mail starts comming in from the
mailbackup as normal.

Are you sure the problem is in chkuser or qmail? If mails are going
to backup MX it looks the problem is elsewhere.

Are your clients sending to a fix relay, or are they using the best
MX, routing by themselves?

/*
  * Uncomment this to enable uid/gid changing
  * (switching UID/GID is NOT compatible with TLS; you may keep this
commented if you have TLS)
  */
#define CHKUSER_ENABLE_UIDGID

 Are you using this the right way, putting right setuid/setgid bits on
 over patched qmail-smtpd?

I am not sure, I belive this was uncommended and didnt change it at all.
I am not using any TLS patches [I couldnt get them to work at the time so
i stopped trying].
I didnt think it would hurt to leave it enabled.

It should be the same, as it should switch from vpopmail user to vpopmail user.

Anyway, comment it (default) if you are simply running as vpopmail.

Hi fellows, would you all please send your messages to the list in plain

bloating to roughly three times the size of a proplerly formatted,

Hi,

I've done it a few times (sendmail to vpopmail, 30K+ users) with scripts
etc to create the new users using the vpopmail tools, then again using
scripts to get their Maildir directories from vpopmail and then moving
the mail over.

I've never just moved over an existing mail store directly, since of
course, it doesn't create the hashes correctly.

There are a few different ways to do it depending on your backend, if
you are using MySQL, then you can just update the mysql database with
the user and password, leaving the maildir directory blank and it will
automatically be updated when you pop into the account or sendmail to
the account (really fast for creating 10K+ users). If you are using the
cdb interface, then you will have to create the users using the vpopmail
tools, which might take 5-15 minutes depending on the number of users,
disk speeds, CPU etc.

Rick

 Why?

Well, assuming he has an already established, up and running setup, I
think it's easier to move existing www directories than to move the
existing virtual mail domains.
For example, on a running system it's quite handy (IMO) to restart
Apache with a modified configuration for virtual hosts and test the
changes, instead of playing with the email system.

Hi,

There should be a plain text vpasswd file as well as a cdb vpasswd.cdb
file. You should be able to easily parse the vpasswd file.
