[vchkpw] Listing all users on a Vdomain and showing mail count

2007-05-25 Thread Andrew Hodgson
Hi,

I wish to view all mails on a virtual domain on our Vpopmail server and
show the mail count, in preparation for moving the users to another
server.

Is this possible using any of the Vpopmail tools?

Thanks.

Andrew.

[vchkpw] Upgrading from 5.3.12

2006-05-26 Thread Andrew Hodgson
Hi,

When we had the original Qmail installation (before I got here), we were
using the Vpopmail 5.3.12. This was some sort of development release, and I
want to upgrade it to the latest stable release, mainly so I can get later
version of Qmailadmin installed.

What do I need to look at before upgrading? I am running a backup mail
server which I built in September which runs a much later release, and the
data seems fine in the new installation, however, I just wanted to know what
to expect when doing an upgrade from such an old version?

Thanks.
Andrew.

[vchkpw] Ezmlm and Autorespond

2005-11-21 Thread Andrew Hodgson
Hi,

I have moved some of our large internal distribution lists to Ezmlm because
some of them are over 100 users. However, I think what is happening is that
Ezmlm is marking a user as bouncing if they set a vacation message on their
account.

Is there any way round this?

Thanks.
Andrew.

As for the second command

Nothing happened. I do not know why, but I installed it
using
#touch .qmail-doublebounce
then I put# and saved.

I did wonder whether that command would work - it didn't seem right

RE: [vchkpw] qmail+vpopmail on redhat 7.3 server gets very busy

2005-11-04 Thread Andrew Hodgson
Hi,

Run the commands:

#Echo doublebounce /var/qmail/control/doublebounceto
#echo # /var/qmail/alias/.qmail-doublebounce

In this way doublebounces will go to the user doublebounce, who's .qmail
file has nothing in it and so the mail will fall into a black hole.

I think this is what Tom is getting at.

Andrew.

Tom you hit it right.
My problem is tones of doublebounces of spam from forged return and bad
addresses.

I do not have doublebounceto file under
/var/qmail/control/
How do I set it up and what should be in it,
to have doublebounces go to that file instead of
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
forwarding them to postmaster?

I will create .qmail-doublebounce and put # in
/var/qmail/alias/.qmail-doublebounce
to delete all doublebounces

Thanks,

Looks like doublebounce messages. What do you have in
 /var/qmail/control/doublebounceto?

I've set my server to have doublebounce in that file, and then put #
in /var/qmail/alias/.qmail-doublebounce. That way doublebounces are just
deleted -- 99.9% of them are crap and not worth looking at (e.g., spam
 from forged return addresses).

RE: [vchkpw] Helo command rejected?

2005-10-24 Thread Andrew Hodgson
Hi,

Usually this happens because the helo parameter sent by the MTA is just
servername instead of servername.domain.com. Also, ideally, this should
be the same data as found in your public PTR record.

The helo host can be changed by adding the parameter to
/var/qmail/control/helohost, although this is only needed if
/var/qmail/control/me is something weird.

RE: [vchkpw] safe to use with courier's authdaemon?

2005-09-15 Thread Andrew Hodgson

Sent: 14 September 2005 17:32

Subject: [vchkpw] safe to use with courier's authdaemon?

Hi Jesse,

Hello,

I haven't posted on this list in a while. I'm currently running 5.4.6. It
looks
like two separate versions of vpopmail are being maintained. A Stable
version
(5.4.x) on sourceforge, and... I see mention of a 5.5 version with a
vpopmaild
from a thread back in August 2005, but I can't find a download for 5.5 on
the
inter7 site anymore. Kinda scary.

So I've come up with three questions:

1.) I'm due for another round of mail server upgrades, and I've noticed
that
courier imap on Gentoo is now more or less demanding authdaemon support. At
one
time in the past, vpopmail was far too leaky to run under authdaemon. Is
that
still the case? Or has it been cleaned up enough that authdaemon isn't a
problem
anymore?

I have just done this on our backup mail server, and found that it works
fine - certainly with Sqwebmail.

I built authdaemon thusly:

./configure --without-authpam --without-authldap --without-authpwd
--without-authmysql --without-authpgsql --without-authshadow
--without-authuserdb --without-authcustom --without-authcram
--without-authdaemon --with-authvchkpw --with-mailuser=vpopmail
--with-mailgroup=vchkpw

You then need to put the line:

/usr/local/sbin/authdaemond start

Into your startup scripts.

When building courier-sqwebmail or courier-imap, I found I needed to do the
following before ./configure command:

 PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:$PATH
 export PATH

Then test the courierauthconfig command using

Courierauthconfig --configfiles

If you don't do the path bit, the ./configure fails with the courier
authdaemon not installed message.

2.) Also, Mr. Sam seemed to be getting increasingly hostile toward the
vpopmail
community. One such example was the disabling of vpopmail auth support (or
was
it something related to pop-before-smtp? I can't remember the specifics, I
just
know I'm running a patch for it right now) in sqwebmail due to a supposed
security vulnerability in vpopmail. Do Courier-IMAP sqwebmail still work
well
with vpopmail? Or is everyone beginning to look elsewhere?

The only issue I think is IMAP before SMTP in version 4.x of courier-imap
doesn't work, but I don't use IMAP yet here so it didn't bother me.

Hope this all helps; I did this all for the first time a few weeks ago
because we had a system made up for us ages ago before I worked here which I
felt we needed to understand more and have later packages of.

Andrew.

[vchkpw] Autorespond and Qmailadmin

Hi,

When a user inputs data into the subject and body of the autoresponder, when
autorespond sends out the message, it seems to leave a gap in the header, so
the from: and subject: lines get added in the body.

Why is this happening?
Thanks.

RE: [vchkpw] Rsync concerns

Hi,

Thanks - will try this.

Actually my LDAP post was regarding using LDAP as authentication for another
program which only uses LDAP. I want to try and do LDAP lookups on the SMTP
envelope on another gateway product before forwarding it to Qmail. I am
still wanting to use maildirs (of course!).

Thanks.

I had already tried this, however, I pipe the output of the command to a
 log
file which I check most days to ensure it is still working. For some
 reason
the errors don't go to the log but get sent to root. If I use -q I get
 no
 output in the log even.
Hi Andrew,

Well, it seems to be a silly mistake - i believe your error messages are
going to root because your pipe is redirecting only the stdout of the first
command, letting the stderr to the console (which is forwarded to root).

Try this:

command_a 21 | command_b

And I read your posting about using a LDAP server in order to have a
synchronized backup server. I don't know if you are aware that when you use
the vpopmail LDAP backend only the authentication data will be
synchronized. You'll still need to use rsync in order to copy the maildirs.
(I'm sorry if you already know that). So maybe you wouldn't like to move to
LDAP and keep using vpopmail.cdb backend and rsync to synchronize.

Regards,
bruno.

[vchkpw] Vpopmail and LDAP

2005-09-13 Thread Andrew Hodgson
Hi,

I am thinking of altering one of our machines to authenticate via LDAP
through the Vpopmail database. Currently it uses files in
/home/vpopmail/domains/virtualdomain, which contains all the data for the
passwords.

Theoretically, how easy is it to put the data into an LDAP system and keep
the two syncronised? We aren't big enough for an SQL database (only with
around 120 users).

Thanks.
Andrew.

[vchkpw] Using the Courier-authentication modules with Vpopmail for use on Sqwebmail

2005-09-01 Thread Andrew Hodgson
Hi all,

Has anyone seen an issue where they build Vpopmail fine and add the users:

#groupadd -g 89 vchkpw
 #useradd -g vchkpw -u 89 vpopmail

I then build Courier authentication modules using the following commands:

./configure --without-authpam --without-authldap --without-authpwd
--without-authmysql --without-authpgsql --without-authshadow
--without-authuserdb --without-authcustom --without-authcram
--without-authdaemon --with-authvchkpw --with-mailuser=vpopmail
--with-mailgroup=vchkpw
make
make install
make install-configure

I then run the .configure script on latest Sqwebmail build thusly:

#./configure --prefix=/usr/local/share/sqwebmail
--with-cachedir=/var/cache/sqwebmail --enable-imageurl=/images/sqwebmail
--enable-imagedir=/srv/www/htdocs/images/sqwebmail
--enable-cgibindir=/srv/www/cgi-bin --with-cacheowner=bin --without-authpam
--without-authuserdb --without-authpwd --without-authshadow

However I get an error about the authentication modules not being loaded. I
have started the authdaemon and it seems to start without error.

Any suggestions/clues?

Vpopmail is working fine, but I posted here as per the comments in the
configure script of the courier-authentication package.

Thanks.
Andrew.

Hi,

alias:

sales joe.blow, john.smith

Now sometimes when a user sends messages to one of these aliases the
message will get stuck in the queue, and they will receive multiple

Any ideas?

At first I thought it was the size of the alias, but it is happening
on aliases with 2-3 people in them also.

Thanks.
