Subject: [vchkpw] roamer's patches

In looking at the qmail control file sort limit problem, and roamer's
solution in particular I've found that he has provided a number of
patches that should be applied. Two of them are related, and change the
behavior of vpopmail.

[1573275] An option to remove deleted users/domains from vlog.

In vpopmail 5.4.17, a new feature was introduced - when
a virtual user or domain is deleted, also delete the
relevant entries from the SQL log file. However, there
are cases when this might not be such a good thing, and
IMHO it should not really be the default behavior.
Various reasons to preserve history come to mind -
security audits, forensic analysis, plain old reports...

So here's a patch against the 5.4.17 source that adds a
new configure option, --enable-sql-remove-deleted, and
a couple of ifdef's around the places in the code where
the actual entries are deleted from the vlog table.
Note that this will change the out-of-the-box behavior
of vpopmail - removing the log entries is now disabled
by default - thus reverting to the pre-5.4.17 behavior
of keeping history intact.

[ 1573285 ] Fix removing log entries for deleted users in vpgsql.c

Here's a patch, from the FreeBSD port of 5.4.17, to
actually make vpgsql.c compile - the changes to make it
remove log entries for deleted users and domains had a
misspelled name of a variable and of a PostgreSQL routine.

This patch is actually meant to be applied after the
--enable-sql-remove-deleted patch (SourceForge
#1573275), but it should be trivial to fish out the
misspellings even if y'all decide not to make this
removal configurable.

Since its a fix to the pgsql module, the second one should definitely go
in. I'm not so sure about the first since it changes program behavior.

Should I merge them both?

After weekends i will try to add command for check quotas.

that's not really vpopmail's job. Your imap server might support special
folders where you can place contacts, but that isn't really vpopmail
implementing anything.

Kolab also does not use imap for its calendar stuff, that's all done via its
own protocol and requires MUA plugins or integration.

of course, the real question is why aren't you using MCAL :)

 Hi,

I have just done a fresh install of qmail and vpopmail, on Mandrake 9.1,
following Dave Sill, http://web.infoave.net/~dsill/lwq.html for the qmail
installation. qmail is running fine; i.e. all four daemons are running and
inst_check reports that all is well.

I also managed to install vpopmail and add domains and users. Booth
messages
injected locally (using qmail-inject) and incomming messages via smtp
(from
KMail on another machine) duely arrive in the appropriate Maildir/new.

However, when I attempt to send to an extern email-address (from KMail)
qmail
responds with the error message: sorry, that domain isn't in my list of
 allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1.).

OK, the messaage is from qmail, but I think it is related to vpopmail, as
I
also have qmail (without vpopmail) running on another PC, and on with that
machine I have no problems sending to external addresses.

 I installed vpopmail as follows:
 ./configure --enable-file-sync=y --enable-roaming-users=y
 make
 make install-strip

 and put

 10.0.0.:allow,RELAYCLIENT
 192.168.2.:allow,RELAYCLIENT

 into /etc/tcp.smtp and added

 40 * * * * /home/vpopmail/bin/clearopensmtp 21 /dev/null

 to crontab.

 The last response to
[vchkpw] smtp;553 sorry, sorry, that domain isn't allowed relay (#5.7.1)
 i.e
 http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg14771.html
 suggest putting
 127.:allow,RELAYCLIENT
 into /etc/tcp.smtp
I have also tried that, but it didn't make any difference.

Booth the above response and the vpopmail install instructions mention
 /etc/tcp.smtp,
but I can find anything about /home/vpopmail/etc/tcp.smtp
 What's the latter for?

 Any ideas what's wrong?

 Regards
 Sigmund.

Wondering if someone can answer this for me. I've got maybe 100 domains
thus yet using crypt() encryption for passwords, as well as storing clear
text [for CRAM-MD5 encryption requiring the password].

If I just install VPOPMAIL with MD5 support, will it detect which domains
are crypt and which are MD5? Some of my domains don't have clear text
passwords because they haven't changed them since before I started saving
them. Will a simple upgrade make all new passwords MD5 and existing
passwords crypt for a slow migration? as passwords get updated? I want to
be able to use both at the same time.

 Thoughts?

I've spoken definitively to no such thing. What Ken Jones will do now

vpopmail development to warrant his inclusion as an admin.

I disagree with you there. What Ken did in the past prior to the
last six months is sufficient to get him many mentions and many praises.
And if he had continued doing the same in the past six months then he
would still be project leader. It is those past six months, and the
responses from Inter 7 in the past few days, which are critical.

I give you a preview of the next UK Olympics Selection Committee
 meeting...

A: who are we going to select for the 1500 metres?

B: I suggest Roger Bannister. He was the first person to run
the mile in under 4 minutes. He has a proven track record.

   C: *groan* Bad pun!

D: I want to know how he has performed recently. Surely that is
   important.

B: It doesn't matter how he has performed recently. What matters
is that he used to be the best!

E: Do any of you bozos know that Roger Bannister is DEAD?

B: That doesn't matter. What matters is that he once broke an
important world record. Therefore we should select him.

Many of the projects I spoke about in terms of personal experience had
more to do with internal infrastructure projects. Actually, it was
projects for external paying clients that would often be the reason they
were put on hold. With any business, the needs of the paying clients
  come first.

You said it. With Inter 7, as long as people keep paying them to install
vpopmail BECAUSE they have their name on the project, their motivation in
times of difficulty will be to divert resources to paying clients and let
vpopmail development go unattended for six months. In fact they DID
let vpopmail development go unattended for six months and only paid
attention to it once more when it appeared that the Inter 7 name would
no longer be listed as its developer.

If it takes that to motivate them into paying attention to this list then
they are NOT good candidates for an admin position. Because if they can
delete the other admins then we return to a situation where vpopmail
development is a lower priority than Inter 7's paying customers and can
be neglected for half a year at a time.

For the most part I can agree with this argument. If Ken were going to
have complete and total administrative control again to the exclusion of
Tom, I would completely agree with this argument.

As I understand Tom's assessment of things, if Ken has equal powers
to Tom then Ken can kick Tom out. As I understand the mail from the
Cat, that is something I consider to have a significant probability of
 happening.

However, as it stands right now, Ken and Tom are both listed as
  administrators

Can one administrator delete the other administrators? Can one
administrator copy the whole CVS tree then delete it? As I understand
it, Tom's only defence against a sneak attack of that nature is to
maintain his own local CVS tree (which is a pain).

Would Inter 7 do anything like that to re-assert the brand ownership
of vpopmail so that they continue to be the first port of call for people
who have problems and are willing to pay for answers? I don't know. But
after the Cat's catty mail and Ken's equivocating mail I cannot deny the
possibility. That may be grossly unfair to Inter 7, but they are the ones
who control what they did and what they wrote, not I. If what they did
and
wrote causes me, and many others, to distrust them then that is their
 fault.

If I needed urgent support, so urgent that paying an outside consultant
were warranted, then Tom would be top of my list and Inter 7 would be
the very bottom, just below the option of selling my soul to the devil
for an answer. The position of Inter 7 on my list is absolutely nothing
to do with anything that Tom has done and everything to do with what Inter
7 have failed to do for six months and have done for the past few days.

As a user of vpopmail, I am no longer happy with an Inter 7 involvement of
 any kind.

If Tom or Ken has an issue, it may belong on the list, if you personally

I disagree with your statement, for which you have provided no backing.
If I disagree with Ken being an admin and can provide a compelling
argument for my belief then that DOES belong on the list. I believe I
have provided grounds why Ken is not a suitable choice for an admin.
Perhaps you would care to provide some reasoning, however slender, why
I should not take issue with Ken here.

Thank you in advance for your understanding.

 You are ever the optimist...

to avoid router issues, i am doing this on the mail
 server

 telnet localhost 110
 user [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 pass
ERR $Home/Mailbox doesnt exist for this user.
 Connection closed by remote host.

 It successfuly authenticates [EMAIL PROTECTED]
but rejects the user because the user doesnt hv
Mailbox. this is true because this is a virtual user.
i am only able to access mails to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] thru sqwebmail but not thru
 Outlook express - POP.

 then i tried
 telnet localhost 110
 user [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 pass
ERR authentication failed. Connection closed by remote
 host.

i think the reason why it happens is that vopomail
doesnt know anything about ojoobala.com. i compiled
 ./vadddomain as mail.ojoobala.com. the only domain i
 see under home/vpopmail/domain is mail.ojoobala.com
 but no ojoobala.com.

 Hi Balaji,

It doesn't look like you have your popd server running as the
 vpopmail user.
 Try:

 #!/bin/sh
 VPOPMAILUID=`id -u vpopmail`
 VPOPMAILGID=`id -g vpopmail`

 exec /usr/local/bin/softlimit -m 200 \
 /usr/local/bin/tcpserver -v -R -H -l 0 \
 -u$VPOPMAILUID -g$VPOPMAILGID 0 110 0 110 \
 /var/qmail/bin/qmail-popup \
 mail.oojoobala.com /home/vpopmail/bin/vchkpw
 /var/qmail/bin/qmail-pop3d Maildir 21

Check that the home dir's have been created with the correct
 permissions of
 vpopmail:vchkpw as well.

Regarding your other issue, you can use valiasdomain to link
 the 2 domains
together, however, it is more common to setup your domain name
 as only the
domain part. As long as you MX records are correct, the email
 will send the
mail to that system. eg: for Bind

 ojoobala.com. IN MX 10 mail.ojoobala.com.

tells the internet to send any mail for ojoobala.com to the host
 mail.ojoobala.com.

 Hope this helps.

 Hi All,

At last third time seemed to be lucky for me. i was
able to install qmail. this time i followed the steps
 described in this page
 http://hibrida.interaksi.web.id/man/qmail/step-dnata.html#QMAIL
and i literally did a cut and paste of all commands.
My qmail-smtpd is working fine, vpopmail, qmailadmin,
sqwebmail is also working fine. i am able to send and
receive mails. i am facing few issues.

this is my setup. My mail server name is
mail.ojoobala.com and i want to receive mails for
ojoobala.com too. So i added both of them in rcpthosts
file and added ojoobala.com in locals file.

 rcpthosts
 mail.ojoobala.com
 ojoobala.com

 locals
 ojoobala.com

 i configured vpopmail as

 ./vadddomain mail.ojoobala.com

So when i send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] it goes
 into directory
 /home/vpopmail/mail.ojoobala.com/name/current. And
when i send it to [EMAIL PROTECTED] it goes into
/home/name/Mailbox. Due to this i am only able to
access [EMAIL PROTECTED] via sqwebmail. sqwebmail
doesnt even authenticate [EMAIL PROTECTED] it just
authenticates [EMAIL PROTECTED] i want to access
both [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] via
 sqwebmail. How can do this.

Secondly i am unable to access my mails using POP
outlook express (Dont scream, pl). when i configure
Outlook using [EMAIL PROTECTED] the error message
that i am getting is '$home/Mailbox' doesnt exist. But
when i try with [EMAIL PROTECTED] it fails in
 authentication.

 my pop3 run script is

 exec /usr/local/bin/softlimit -m 200 \
 /usr/local/bin/tcpserver -v -R -H -l 0 0 110
 /var/qmail/bin/qmail-popup \
 mail.oojoobala.com /home/vpopmail/bin/vchkpw
 /var/qmail/bin/qmail-pop3d Maildir 21

How can i acess my both accounts
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED] using
 POP.
