This is what I already do right now. In fact, I had been saving spam for
several months now (I intended to use them to train SpamAss), so I used
mutt to bounce over 5000 of them to Trustic over the weekend :-)

I expect trustic to get better as more people provide spam mails.

Indeed.

Im waiting for the beta to end because one of my servers is marked as
untrusted but I cannot claim it as that feature is switched off during
the beta. (It was untrusted because one of our customer's servers was
compromised and then used to send 50,000 spams through our mail server
(which treated their mail server as
a trusted relay!).

Hi Martin,

How do you get qmail to forward as attachments? This is a great idea,
by the way! Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes, but better still, join up at http://www.trustic.com

You can then forward those double bounces as attachments to the address
they
give you and volia, you add to the anti-spam listing.

Also, set your qmail-smtp run file like this :-

exec /usr/local/bin/tcpserver 0 smtp rblsmtpd \
-b -c -r sbl.spamhaus.org \
-b -c -r relays.ordb.org \
-b -c -r QUERYADDRESS \
qmail-smtpd 2>&1

Replace QUERYADDRESS with your trustic assigned one.

hup qmail and off you go.

I don't send them automatically, I'm dubious of automatic reporting and like
to verify there is nothing unusual that will trip up trustics parser.

I give them the quick once over, then do fwd as attach. I have my trustic
address in my address book and as soon as I type the first character, it
appears, hit enter and send.

Bob's your uncle.

A lot quicker than finding the offending IP, doing a lookup, finding the
provider, then a abuse report etc.

My experience from the smtp log so far is that for every 10 spamhaus denies, I
get 8 trustic denies and 1 ordb.

I have now removed my badmailfrom and tcp.smtp(allow,RBLSMTPD="-banned for
spamming" rules) as they are too fixed and ridgid whereas spamhaus, ordb
and trustic are flexible, continuously updated, and people can get out if
they fix their systems/procedures/TOS.

Fair is fair.

Natural justice, or due process as the yanks say.

I expect trustic to get better as more people provide spam mails.

I just signed up with Trustic last week and your idea of sending
doublebounces to Trustic automatically is brilliant!

2003-08-01 Thread Shane Chrisp
You can do either or both of the following.

Apply the checkuser patch. There is a modified one to work with vpopmail at
http://www.shupp.org/ I have it working on 5.3.20 with mysql and it works
a treat.

And/Or

echo doublebounce >/var/qmail/control/doublebounceto
echo '#' >/var/qmail/alias/.qmail-doublebounce

The second one is a good idea anyway if you have a high volume server cause
it sends the doublebounce's to null.
