Same answer - it's essentially the PureDisk engine and it's going to depend
on the data stream. We use PureDisk. It's great for office documents and

I'm not a VMware guy but I believe that vStorage is part of VMware. It's up
to NetBackup to use those APIs to do the backups. That's all part of
NetBackup 7 which has gone FA and is due to go GA in another week or so. It
looks really, really good and once we get NBU 7 installed (probably March
from SPARC to x64. I can't comment on whether or not it will work, but I'm
pretty sure it's unsupported. You can/should open a case with Symantec to
verify.

over 100MB/sec to disk. Put a Win2008 guest in ESX on the same hardware and
the disk I/O tops out at about 30MB/sec.

I would guess that the line terminations are getting you. Windows has cr/lf
and Unix just lf. Since you're backing up the file in a binary fashion,
when you restore it to another platform, your terminations aren't going to
match what the OS expected.

mirrored disk, then you've got major memory constraint issues to deal with.
Fault tolerance is the least of your problems.
Disks do exactly 3 things:

-bit. 64-bit Windows ha's been a
more stable platform for us than 32-bit.
Microsoft's general direction also appears to towards 64-bit.
My recommendation would be to go with 64-bit unless you have a compelling
reason to keep it at only 32-bit.

The problem is non-trivial because although you may get notified of a single
mount request, the actual job may need multiple tapes (and DSSU-based
images) so you need to search for them all.

misleading is that your performance will vary based on
everything else that's going on as well as writing really small images to
tape. Performance analysis is really hard in NetBackup - many of the tools
you would like to have simply aren't there.
