Status 54 means NetBackup could not communicate with the client. (In
most cases timed out connecting to the client).
As for 6, I see them when doing redo logs - If there is nothing to
backup it fails with this code.
In your case, I am not sure. bpbkar and backint logging should be
84 is usually when you get errors writing to a disk. To the best of my
knowledge, it does not sound like a disk full message. But I cannot tell
you what error message may be related to that off my head.
May need to enable BPDM logging on the Server (verbose=5)
How much space have you got now?
Are your clients the same version of Windows?
for example, if you have Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 Servers in the
same policy, you may run into problems with backups.

you would need to enable logging on the Client (If its windows then
c:\PRogram files\Veritas\Netbackup\logs\BPCD and BPBKAR as an example).

You can take SQL down (stop the services) - run backup to perform a
file level backup, but when you got a 24 x 7 environment, this is not
practical.
Best method is to get your SQL Admin to backup the Databased to Disk,
using the built in SQL Backup tool or get the MS-SQL-Server Agent option

I have a SAN Media Server, using SSO to a tape library, its own
dedicated STU.
Now this backup job can be configured over the LAN or directly accessing
the Tape Drive.
LAN speeds are half than what they are accessing the tape drive over the
Fabric.
It could be the terminology, as SAN
Netbackup should be more than happy to talk to the stand alone drive.
Then it is a case of importing the tape (or tapes) that is needed for
the restore. if you have an inventory of what was on the media, then you
should be ok.
NOTE: It can take up to 4 hours to do a full import of a single tape.

NetBackup clients, configured to talk over the SAN directly).

I have logged 2 calls with Symantec over this now, and between them, it
seems to be a debate of who's problem this is.
So while that is going on, here is the problem I am being faced with.

1 x Master 6.5.3

We do a mix and match, but for our 1TB+ DB's we use the online agents
for SQL.
Saved doing offline dumps to disk, when space is limiting.
Plus backups speeds are quite good. But if you do not want the agent,
then the SQL DBA will have to ensure the SQL Dumps are set to goto

I could be wrong here, but BMR goes back to the last current configuration
date and time. So if the A backup was a FULL and has the BMR info on this,
then it would go back to A first.

You do need a SQL License on the Master, and the Policy must be a SQL
application policy for the backup.
Failing this, you can configure SQL Server to do offline backups to a
flatfile on a local or Network drive. Then NetBackup treats it as a
single file and backs the file up
