Yeah, just mix up half and half corn meal and flour, then add salt and pepper. Slice the tomatoes, dip them in the flour/corn meal mix (or you can just use cornmeal only) and fry them till golden brown. Be careful when eating them though, because they are so good, they have made many a Southerner's tongue slap their brains out LOL.. Re: [VFB] re: fall
Joyce: First off, I'm with Don O. Send the tomatoes to me and they won't have time to ripen LOL. Specially since I'm getting a few pods of okra lately too. Seriously, place them in a Kraft PAPER bag and then put them in a cool, dark place and they will ripen. If you add one of those apples, or a banana to the bag of tomatoes, they will ripen even faster because the apple or banana puts out more CO2 I think it is, which speeds the ripening process. Re: [VFB] re: fall
Hi Joyce, One old-timey friend gave us this tip, and it works great for ripening green tomatoes. Just take three or four full sheets of newspaper, black and white version, and wrap a half dozen green tomatoes inside them like you are filling a Tootsie roll wrapper. Then just twist and seal both ends. Put the tomatoes in a dark cabinet at room temperature, and about a couple weeks later, you will have yummy red ones. Something about the process keeps the green tomatoes from going soft and rotten. To make green tomatoes disappear, give them to Cheryl. She'll make fried green tomatoes, one of her favorites. Were those geese flying overhead in a V-formation? Do you know why one side of the V-formation is longer than the other side? I I V Got more geese on that side. :o) - Original Message - From: Joyce M Westphal Our first freeze last night..delicious apples were picked and taken in today and I picked the few green tomatoes left. Do they really ripen inside? Any hints on how to hasten this process without them going rotten? Heard the honking of geese and saw 11 nice ones, in formation, flying overhead. Guess that fall is really here. Joyce -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VFB Mail" group.
