[videoblogging] DVD authoring help

2005-08-27 Thread Tyrone Rubin

Hiya

I am looking for a stand alone dvd recorder unit that has the ability to create pretty nice menus. I have looked at the Sony GX7 but it look as though the menu you create looks really bad, as in it just displays a black screen with a title. I want at least to put a picture and have the ability to create chapters. I have been looking through Pioneer, Panasonic and LitOns sites and it seems there are definately some dvd recorders that create decent menus. Just not sure exactly if the menu can have a picture or chapters. So please if anyone knows of a DVD recorder with the ability to create nice looking (obviouly not on DVD studio Pro level) menus, pls let me know which ones?
Another question while still typing, what is the cheapest 3CCD camera you would recomend. Would it be the Panasonic GS75 (I come from PAL country so not sure what NTSC equivilant is) or just looked at a JVC one that camcorderinfo.com has said is great. What would be your choice for cheapest 3CCD video camera, also taking sound into consideration. Sure all the cheapest 3CCD cameras dont have XLR input prob all have mini jack input. Is mini jack still fine to put a mic into. And what mic would one recommend. And saw an adapter that converts mini jack to a mount which has 2 XLR input jacks. Would those two XLR jacks still be in stereo since it does into on little tiny mini jack. Is this recomended. Alternatively if filming on a low end 3CCD camera to use an extrenal audio recodring device, if so which one; mini disk, mp3.
Well excuse me for all these question pls feel free to only answer one, haha.
Pref the stand alone DVD recorder making nice menus question.

Thanks so much
Tyrone

Hey, a couple of weeks ago I got this email from a Yahoo Ad

interested in placing an ad on www.jonnygoldstein.com.I
would like to know if you are able to run other types of advertisements
besides banner ads. Please contact me as soon as you can so we can
take the time to discuss further details and information. I would also
like to know if you could please send me your pricing
information.Thank you very much for your time and attention. I
look forward to hearing from you shortly.etcI'm not
averse to making some money from ads, but I know nothing about how all this
works, and it's not like my site gets thousands of unique visitors per day
or anything (of course all my visitors are extremely high quality! But I
don't think that counts)...So is there any point talking with this person?
I mean, I could probably get a nickel a month out of her,
right? And where's good place to figure out pricing information
anyway?Did anyone else get contacted by anyone from Yahoo and call
them back? If so, what was that experience like?Much

Just a tip for you Taylor.
When enclosing a URL with to prevent it from breaking, you need a
space between the and the actual URL, like so:

I am wild about that interface. I want to do mine that way now that

which means you can have a bunch of embedded movies on one page
without them all downloading in advance of a request on each. This is
huge for fast multiple post page fulfillment to dial up users.

you can do this via poster movies. Poster movies are essential for

2005-08-27 Thread Jay
Hello all

I have been keeping up on some of the conversations as all of you know
it takes alot of time to put video toghether even a simple quick shoot
compress and upload.
And we all need to make a living to pay the bills there is huge amounts
of grant money out there from buisnesses and organnizations.

I have been exploring setting up a non-profit to help support some
projects to teach youth aboput video production. The group might want
to consider exploring that in some way.

I will follwo up with more gotta go make a living.

Thanks Jay

Thanks for the email Jan, I've decided to share my reply with the list.

Of course you can crash at my place, I live alone in the woods in a
seven-bedroom farmhouse. I have room for the whole crew. In fact, I have
contacts all the way from Halifax to Toronto. We won't have any worries
about a place to sleep.

I'm thinking we should run this like a rock'n'roll tour. We could set up
in venues like the Khyber Club in Halifax, Gallery Connexion in
Fredericton, WAR Gallery in Montreal. The galleries are ideal because they
double as performance spaces and also there are no specific corporate
overtones like at a store. WAR Gallery, for example, has a stage,
projector, giant screen, wireless internet and I could probably get it for
free.

So we'll show up and give a workshop in the early evening. People can
shoot their own videos and we'll upload them to a cross-country group vlog.
And then at night we'll have a party. We'll come back to the space and I
will perform live electronic music and Jan will VJ (although she may not
realize it yet) and she will mix in excerpts from the day's videos while
everyone dances their asses off.

The workshops will be for free, and we will make money from the parties.
And also--as any touring band will tell you--from selling merchandise. Who
wants an official Vlog Voyeur t-shirt? Please specify small medium or
large.

And don't expect Sony to come rushing to your door to sponsor your

ways to support videoblogging, they'll look at several different nodes

getting the word out.

Tours mean publicity and there's a precedent for big companies wanting
to be involved. I just sent off an email to Sony Canada's manager of
customer relationships retail marketing. Maybe she'll recognize the tour
as a good opportunity for them. If they don't somebody else will. Although
I'm not too worried about sponsorships. We can easily make it happen on our
own.

The road trips could do a lot for videoblogging. I suspect there are
limitations to introducing people to a new internet phenomenon by writing
about it on the internet. In Halifax, for example, blogging didn't really
blow up huge until the fall of 2003, when a bunch of people got written
up... in the local newspaper.

A vision of 2007. We pull into town in a giant bus, twice the length of
Taylor's RV. It is specially outfitted with a pair of Final Cut Pro
workstations, a hot-tub and a green-screen on one wall. The bus rolls right
into the centre of town and parts in a wireless hotspot. On the side of the
bus in giant letters: Videoblog Tour 2007, brought to you by the Apple
G6. (A couple people with binoculars look down from a window at Sony HQ
and say Boy I wish we'd answered that guy's email. )

Anyone at all is welcome to come in off the street and upload a video.
We're right in the middle of everything with our cameras. Little kids cheer
at our approach. Politicians are fearful.

   Well, anything's possible.

Re: [videoblogging] How did you do that interface?

2005-08-27 Thread Joshua Kinberg
This is a basic javascript pop-up window. You can set the size of the
window and customize it somewhat (disable scrollbars, resizing, etc).
Here's a good place to start:
http://www.echoecho.com/jswindows02.htm

Note that this simply pops up an HTML page in a customized browser
window. It does not set the background color, etc. That is all done
within HTML/CSS. Javascript just opens the window and sets some
parameters on that window.

If you do this, you should still include a direct link to your video
within your blog entry so that it will be picked up in your RSS feed
as an enclosure. Here's a little trick though... you can create a
*secret* link like this:

a href=http://path/to/my/awesome/movie.mov; rel=enclosure/a

See that! No text between the a tags! So the link doesn't show up in
your browser, but its there in the code... pretty tricky, eh?

[videoblogging] Why use two iTunes subscribe links?

2005-08-27 Thread LeanBackVids.com
Sorry if this has already been addressed, but I was wondering why some
vloggers are using two different links for the iTunes subscription.

The two formats that I've seen are the phobos link for Apple and the
Mefeedia style for Windows. However, I've tested the phobos link on
both Mac and Windows with no problems.

http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=74843625

The Mefeedia link looks cleaner, but I'm not sure if (or why) to use
this. Is either link better than the other? I'd rather not have to
use two buttons for the same thing.

http://mefeedia.com/pcast/618.pcast

Thanks in advance...

Re: [videoblogging] A dozen of great video poems in a blog format

2005-08-27 Thread Kunga
http://www.loiez.org/ Yes I too love his-her work. Not I do not
like frames because each movie does not have its own URL. And that
poses a sharing communication problem like the one you just experienced.

Otherwise I think this site and this person's works are among the
best I have ever seen online to date. Mysterious, Captivating,
Sensual, Innovative and great music.

the creator's email address is directly available from the contact
button. That is why I thought it was not classless to transmit it
in the form of a copy to the group last night. I guess that is why
the reference was not in that post. Now I understand what I did. I
was writing the creator of the site and forgot I needed a reference
URL because I was copying to the group. Doh! I just now figured that
out. That's how dense I am. lol.

Here I copy to the creator of the site this post - the reverse of
what I did last night. Am I pushing the envelope of propriety here?
Or is this innovative posting creativity? My thought is you now have
the email address you can add to your address book from here without
having to go to the site. Maybe I am trying to hard to be helpful. I
don't know. I'm one big emotional ball of goo lately...

Just got an email entitled Ourmedia Server Crash I guess most of
y'all got, asking us not to post to the Archive.org via Ourmedia.org
for a week while they regroup their server situation. I guess they
are experiencing the CBS-on-Rocketboom effect. ; ^ )

For those of you not using Ourmedia.org and the archive.org servers,
here is what was in the mail which while addressing it to the group
was sent individually to registered members of Ourmedia and aparently
not to the group as I still see no post like that:

Hello, members of the videoblogging group.
as you now know Ourmedia is having server problem trying to keep up
with the 1 gigabite load the we are puting on them.In order to help
them out, please hold off on your posting for about a week while they
regroup at internet archive..I know that many of you are squirming in
you
your chairs to get your really great vid online but we do need to let
the server cool off a bit before slaming it again

[videoblogging] Re: Lean Back Vids on Digg!

2005-08-27 Thread LeanBackVids.com
Thanks, but props should go to Peter (the other half of LBV) first and
foremost. He had to go through a lot to match vids/photos with the 3D
views. He also mentioned that he was crashing the Google Earth app a
lot when trying to move the view and screencast it.

Here is the digg page directly...
http://digg.com/movies/Very_Cool_Movie_made_with_Google_Earth_

It started out like any typical weekend... very slow. I then started
noticing the numbers jump and realized it got put on digg's front
page. 1500 visitors in the last two and half hours! Hopefully the
server can take it and we don't exceed our monthly bandwith.

Too bad our site generates no money and nobody clicks on the silly
DreamHost ad. Also, we aren't seeing traffic to any other pages which
means people are watching this one vid and leaving. Matter of fact,
there is probably a certain percentage of people who are unable to
watch... due to bandwith limitations or no QT plugin.

It would be awesome if everyone could go in and digg this. Maybe then
it would make it to the top 10 for the week and get mentioned on
diggnation's podcast/vidcast. It take a lot to get top ten, but one
can only hope.

I'm also trying to push people over to VlogMap so that vlogging can
get more exposure. We could all use more non-vlogger viewers.

Pray for our server...
