[videoblogging] my new video blog about old home movies

2005-09-11 Thread Bohus Blahut

Hiya,

I finally have my video blog up and running at
www.homemovienight.com. First, it's important that I send endless
thanks to freevlog.org without whom I could never have gotten even close
to putting this together. Thanks, folks. I hope that the link love I
set up helps. :)

The video blog is part of a larger project I'm working on that's all
about old home movies that people used to shoot from the 20's through
the 80's. I'm a big fan of small gauge filmmaking on 8mm, super8, and
16mm, and through this video blog I hope to share some of the films that
I've found in thrifts, people's basements, etc.

I hope that I have everything set up right, and would appreciate any
advice or tips that you may have. I know that I've got a bit to go as
far as designing a more customized website, tweaking some of the info
coming from feeds, etc. For now I just wanted to have something up and
running that works - at least I hope it does.

If you care to check it out, you can go over to
www.homemovienight.com to watch my first 4 minute intro video. Thanks
for your time, and I hope that those of you who watch the video will
find something to enjoy.

Use Media RSS and wait for all aggregators to support it (FireANT has
support AFAIK). Include the Quicktime versions in the regular enclosure

[videoblogging] Re: my new video blog about old home movies

2005-09-11 Thread Steve Watkins
Cheers. Does feedburner support mediaRSS though?

As an interim solution, is there any kind of feature in feedburner
that enables you to specify 'only convert files of type x to enclosures?'

If there were, then it would be possible to create 2 feeds in
feedburner, one for wmv and one for .mp4 or .mov or whatever?

Just thinking out loud really, theres got to be an easier way to
handle multiple formats whilst we wait for the perfect solutions to
filter down into every service and app?

Re: [videoblogging] Classic Vlogs.

2005-09-11 Thread Kunga
There are a wide variety on my site. I would definitely show them the
Buckminster Fuller Site. That is a classic set of video if there ever
was one. Those videos of Bucky used to cost thousands of dollars to
buy. Now they are free from his site. And Jay Dedman on Vlogging from
last year. And Molly Holzschlag on Blogging as an act of courage from
last month. All are classics.

You could also point out that the http://FutureMedia.org site didn't
exist until the last day of July '05 and that there was no video on
it until August 9 and no feed until August 14 and no iTunes Directory
listing until August 21 and that on August 29 it was deemed one of
the World's Best Video sites by London's The Independent online edition.

Point being that they can invent a new site and get global
recognition for executing a good idea in less than a month. So
anything is possible.

Molly http://futuremediatv.blogspot.com/2005/08/molly-holzschlag-
declares-blogging-act.html
Jay http://futuremediatv.blogspot.com/2005/09/36mb-195min-former-
cnn-vet-jay-dedman.html
Bucky http://futuremediatv.blogspot.com/2005/08/r-buckminster-bucky-
fuller-everything.html

I know some of you cynics here think this is self promotion tooting
my own horn stuff. Well you've got to admit that is a pretty amazing
story no matter who's site we are talking about. I think kids should
know how fast success can happen in this arena. So it's not about me.
It's a classic example of rapid critical acclaim possibilities.

Love your work Starfire.

Yes, I have quicktime installed on IE6 and have viewed quicktime

I took your page and modified it with a 1 frame quicktime movie and
then it came up fine on IE6. Have a look at Creating Poster Frames,
http://www.mesquiteisd.org/imovie/how2postermovie.html . It says
there: Once you create the image that will serve as your poster
frame you need make sure that it is saved in qt format and ends with .mov

Something tells me that the high school may not appreciate Starfire
showing a video of Verdi's, as awesome as he is, naked ass to a group
of their students. I don't doubt the kids would get a huge kick out
of it. However, take it from someone who works in a high school:
unless it's a school unlike most in this country, avoid any video with
anything that could be deemed coarse or brazen by the conservative
masses. It only takes one dissenter to put the kibosh on the whole
thing.

Has anyone with QT Pro 6 installed iT5 without the QT7 upgrade?

I've purchased a key for QT7 and it does not work with my

uninstall iT5, QT7 and reinstall iT4.9 which installed 6.5.

I'd like to upgrade to 5, however it won't let me past the pro key warning.

Any ideas?

[videoblogging] Building your vlog's following

2005-09-11 Thread Randolfe Wicker

We all know about vlogs having feeds that you
subscribe to and how one vlogger will link to other vlogs they think are
especially good. However, I believe the vlogosphere will ultimately be
dominated by those vlogs that "suck" viewers in by being
interactive.

I'm a member of some forums where one can post a
comment about something and then click a box so you are automatically notified
by email whenever someone else posts a comment after your comment. I have
found this feature to be invaluable in continuing a discussion on some line of
thought. Days or weeks later, I'll get an email notice with a link which
returns me to that discussion.

I've always thought such a feature on a vlog would
be most valuable. I've finally found such a vlog. Anyone really interested
in developing a base of readers should explore it.

When first visiting, if you try to post a comment,
you will be prompted to "register" first. Many of us have done this on
sites that host vlogs like Blogger, etc. It took about four hours before I
got an email validating my registration. Usually, most of us would be
video years away from a posting-moment-thought after four hours.

However, I had left the link open, returned and
posted my comments. I think I made that effort because I hate to leave a
good vlog with "0" comments.

Then, I received an email saying someone had
replied to my comment. This was a first time experience for me while
vlogging.

I returned to the vlog. I think a new vlog
had been put up replacing the episode I was commenting on. I typed a quick
answer to that comment asking what kind of program the vlogger used. Seems
that all this is available (for money of course) at
http://www.pmachine.com/.

I'm not a computer geek. However, I know an
effective way to handle personal interactions. After posting my answer to
the answer, I was suddenly invited to "choose an avatar" to accompany any future
comments I might want to make. Now, I use an avatar,(a simple lighted
single candle), at The Immortality Institute forum.

You become very fond of the avatar you
choose. Such features as email notification that a comment (possibly on
your comment) has been posted on a vlog and "vanity" extras like avatars are
very effective tools for drawing anyone into interactions and conversations on
any site.

All this makes me fear that in the vlogosphere,
geeks will ultimately rule the roost despite all the wonderful free tutorials at
Freevlog!

Oh, the site: http://www.kitykity.com/weblog.php/vlog

I used to use PMachine. Then I used Expression Engine. Neither really
gave me the control that I wanted. I had tried Moveable Type in the
past but I didnt like having to rebuild everything after I posted. In
the end, I finally settled on WordPress as my vlog/blog platform and
couldnt be happier.

All that really means nothing though as it is a personal choice what

When first visiting, if you try to post a comment, you will be

prompted to register first. Many of us have done this on sites
that host vlogs like Blogger, etc. It took about four hours before
I got an email validating my registration. Usually, most of us
would be video years away from a posting-moment-thought after four
 hours.

However, I had left the link open, returned and posted my

comments. I think I made that effort because I hate to leave a good
 vlog with 0 comments.

Then, I received an email saying someone had replied to my

comment. This was a first time experience for me while vlogging.

I returned to the vlog. I think a new vlog had been put up

replacing the episode I was commenting on. I typed a quick answer
to that comment asking what kind of program the vlogger used. Seems
that all this is available (for money of course) at

 http://www.pmachine.com/ .

I'm not a computer geek. However, I know an effective way to

handle personal interactions. After posting my answer to the
answer, I was suddenly invited to choose an avatar to accompany
any future comments I might want to make. Now, I use an avatar,(a
simple lighted single candle), at The Immortality Institute forum.

You become very fond of the avatar you choose. Such features as

email notification that a comment (possibly on your comment) has
been posted on a vlog and vanity extras like avatars are very
effective tools for drawing anyone into interactions and
 conversations on any site.

All this makes me fear that in the vlogosphere, geeks will

ultimately rule the roost despite all the wonderful free tutorials
 at Freevlog!

 Oh, the site: http://www.kitykity.com/weblog.php/vlog

Jack--

How very, very cool! Those short clips made my day at the port
exciting! How long have you been vlogging for?

Also, now you've got to make a post now and tell us all about
youTube. Today is the first time I've heard of this site!

[videoblogging] A vlogging challenge!

2005-09-11 Thread Susan
I'm sure everyone has seen the HP digital photography commercials (
http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/hpads/you/photography/index.html --
my favorite is the original francois one--scroll to the bottom), and
I'm curious if anyone has attempted anything even remotely similar to
this...

...if not, it would be an EXCELLENT challenge! If you feel so
inclined to create a wonderful piece of work, post a link to it here!

I don't think I have enough talent personally to be able to figure it
out... ;)

2005-09-11 Thread Jake Ludington
Just curoius what you're prefered method of digitizing Super-8 film
is? I have some films in Super-8 that I shot in the late 1970's.

This is likely the best method for consumer level transfer:
http://www.moviestuff.tv/wp_xp.html

Not cheap, but effective.

The other alternative is recording the film with a DV cam set up
side-by-side with the projector.

[videoblogging] Adding subtitles to my videos

2005-09-11 Thread mertulas81
Hi guys, my name is Mert and I am a new videoblogger, I live in San
Jose, CA right now but my hometown is Istanbul, TURKEY.

Well the problem is I have videos in turkish language and videos in
english as well and I want to put subtitles on them so all my friends
(both turkish and foreigners) can understand. I googled up some
subtitle software but they were too complicated, I just want to add
subtitles to .mpg and .mov files and I am using a pc so mac software
won't work. Are there any simple programs that can do the job?

Thank You,
Mert Ulas

Re: [videoblogging] Re: kitykity's new vlog!

2005-09-11 Thread Randolfe Wicker

Susan, as you mayhave noticed in another
thread I created after visiting your site, I think your approach is both crafty
and brilliant.

Yes, this registering creates obstacles to
spontaneous reactions. However, your vlog (not being cynical here-just
observant) is like a brilliantly designed "trap". It pulls the passer-by
in like some sort of mental quicksand. With avatars and the like, it makes
the new registrant feel "special".

Getting an email notice that someone has responded
to your post draws you back. I can easily see an involved discussion
developing about some vlog that creates strong reaction in people. This
simply would never happen without the interactivefeatures you have
incorporated in your vlog.

I'll be interested in revisiting your vlog in the
future (registrants have their rights:) ) and seeing how your traffic
develops. Part of the answer to that question will be the quality of the
vlogs you produce. However, I think you have hit on "the formula" of how
to build a following by creating interaction.

Good luck!

Also, there is Windows Movie Maker, which comes with Windows...
 - Start - Programs - Accessories - Windows Movie Maker.
 - Open (import) your movie.
 - Draaag it down to the filmstrip at the bottom of the screen.
 - Tools - Titles and Credits.
 - Title on the selected clip.
 - Click on change the title animation.
 - Scroll up and find subtitle.
 - Edit the subtitle text, font, color, etc.

 Hope this helps! :)
