I am really not following what happens. i use the last version of FCP
but whenever i export for a different codec i always use compressor
and i just tested with hdv exported to iPod and it worked alright.
Did you tried with the compressor? Or do you have some specific reason
not to use

has the same chipset/cpu than the new ones, because they renovated it.
so you just get stuck with the old design but get everything else and
the firewire (400) port.
