Hi! I would like to add that presently the white macbook they are selling has the same chipset/cpu than the new ones, because they renovated it. so you just get stuck with the old design but get everything else and the firewire (400) port.
http://theappleblog.com/2009/01/21/white-macbook-gets-nvidia-better-specs/ the new macbook pro only has the faster firewire in it (FW 800), but as others said, you can have a cable to connect a FW800 port on the computer to the XL1 or disks that have FW 400. in the end if you need firewire either you go with the old design or the macbook pro...
