[videoblogging] Re: How to create a link within a .wmv?

2008-11-16 Thread M. Mart
Thank you Charles and Jake for your responses to my question. Using a Mac I
can have access to the Windows environment through Parallels Desktop for the
Mac software. With some encouragement a few people I know using the Windows
system should be able to guide me to Windows Media File Editor and its
encoding techniques. This should take some time but I¹ll report back when I
have some results.
Jake, thanks again for the suggestion.

[videoblogging] Re: MyHeavy.com Disregarding Vlogger CC Licenses

2007-01-03 Thread M. Mart
Fellow Vloggers:
Myheavy.com is clearly aware of copyright laws, even as it apparently
disregards those laws. Click on the ³Copyright Tips² link at the bottom of
its main page and you will read in part:

³When we find out you have posted a video that's infringing someone's
copyright content, we'll have to take it down and give you a warning. If we
find more copyrighted stuff on your site or if you do it repeatedly, we'll
terminate your account.
If you've got any questions about this, then please email us and let us know
what's on your mind.
Sincerely,
The MyHeavy Team²

Now that is hutspah!
If we take our time, we should as a group work out an appropriate response
that will resolve the problem and achieve some justice for our efforts.

[videoblogging] Help with iTunes upload

2006-05-16 Thread M. Mart

 Vloggers:

Looking for some help uploading my vlog to iTunes. Usually with enough time
I can figure these things out, but not this time.

The instructions I followed were to:

1. create an account on blogger.com,

2. upload my vlogs to that account, then

3. create an account on feedburner.com,

4. paste in the url of my blogger.com account and feedburner.com generates a
new url http://feeds.feedburner.com/Poetryvlogcom

5. paste that into the ³submit a podcast to iTunes directory² window and
click on the continue button.

Each time I do that I get the message, ³the feed has no episodes².

Well that is true, each week a new poet is featured and the site¹s url
http://www.poetryvlog.com remains the same, so there are no episodes per
se, but the featured poet is different each week even though the url remains
the same (the browser opens the index.html page).

Is there a known work around that will allow the upload of a url for
this site that iTunes will recognize as episodic?
Thanks,
Michael

2006-05-14 Thread M. Mart

Have I missed it, or has no one here mentioned Rocketboom's casual Friday's
take on the is it sexism/TV vs Vlogs issues?

As I watched I could not help but think the several hundred subscribers to
this listserve were the only viewers who would truly understand the recent
origins of the debate. Hats off to Amanda and Andrew for a brilliant satire.
And don't fail to click on the link to the elephant video.

[videoblogging] Compression settings make a difference?

2006-04-24 Thread M. Mart
Title: Compression settings make a difference?

To edit my videos using iMovie on my Mac I relied on the settings provided by Michael and Ryanne on their great Freevlog.org site. Those settings have served my site well, both in .mov and .wmv formats.

Today I read on Vimeo.coms Upload Guide different recommended settings. Following the Vimeo settings as shown below I reformatted an existing QuickTime video and played them side by side. The Vimeo settings worked well, with the only difference being the Vimeo settings produce a file size of 30.28MB vs 14.95MB for Freevlog. The two of us here differ as to which output is slightly better.
Has any one here experimented with the two settings? Do these setting differences affect how videos appear in the browser?

Vimeo.com:
Under Video, click Settings.
Compression Type: Sorensen Video 3.
Frame rate: Current fps.
Key Frames: Every 60 frames.
Data rate: Restrict to 1200 kbits/sec.
Quality: Best.

Under Sound, click Settings.
Format: QDesign Music 2
Channels: Stereo (L R)
Rate: 44.100.
Click Options and set the bitrate to 48kbits/s.

Freevlog.org
Compression MPEG-4
Rate frame: 15
Key Frames: 5

Compressor at: Medium
Data Rate: 600 kbits
Sound AAC
Mono
Bite Rate 24 kilohertz

Michael Verdi:
Thank you for your comprehensive explanation of the differences between the two groups of compression settings. For me, Ill stick with the Freevlog.org recommended settings. Next Ill buy 3ivx and learn it. Up, up, and away on the learning curve.
Your help to all of us is always appreciated and on target.

Subject: Re: Compression settings make a difference?

Here are some differences and things to note about these settings:
1. The Vimeo settings, I'm sure, work well as you say but - Sorenson 3 is an
older, less effecient codec. This is why you noted similar quality at 2X the
bit rate.
2. QDesign Music 2 audio codec often sounds very tin can and swirly to
me. Also it's much less effecient than AAC.
3. The mpeg4 video codec and AAC audio codec settings we show at Freevlog
will give you iPod compatible video. Sorenson 3 and QDesign Music 2 are not
compatible with the iPod.
4. Apple's version of the mpeg4 codec is certainly not the greatest. You can
increase the quality (like with every codec) by increasing the bit rate from
what we recommed in the tutorial.
5. Another option is to use the h.264 codec but there are some downsides:
Apple took away the ability of using h.264 to make ipod compatible videos
except when using export to iPod, which last time I checked, had the
effect of squishing you video if it originates as DV; also h.264 requires
QT7; and h.264 plays poorly on older computers.
6. Personally, my perferred option is to use the 3ivx version of the mpeg4
codec ($20 from 3ivx.com - but the free trial lasts forever). We have a
tutorial on Freevlog for using the single pass version: URL:
http://freevlog.org/index.php/2005/10/23/compress-for-the-web-with-3ivx/
and one of these days I'll get around to making a tutorial for using the
dual-pass version which gives results close to those of h.264. The reason
why we don't already have that tutorial is that there is a bug with 3ivx
dual pass and QT 7. There is an easy workaround (I use it all the time) that
can be found here: URL:
http://forums.3ivx.com/index.php?s=e927e67253f3bec43952d568e6e99b7cshowtopic=83898st=0p=416725#entry416725

Hope that helps,
Verdi

[videoblogging] .m4v files not appearing in browser

2006-04-09 Thread M. Mart
Hello Vloggers:
Despite all the helpful responses to my inquiry about converting my
movies into m4v format for downloading to a video iPod I am still having
troubles getting them recognized for downloading.
Using a Mac, I have converted .mov into .m4v. files showing the iTunes
icon. These .m4v files have been uploaded to my website's directory
(poetryvlog.com/movies/.m4v) but, instead of showing them, the browser
gives the page cannot be found code 404 response. I can see them in the
site's directory so I know they are there.
These m4v files were created both in iMovie and QuickTime Pro along
with flip4mac.
On my computer the .m4v files play as videos in my iTunes window and as
QuickTime movies.
Any ideas as to what is causing the problem would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael Mart

[videoblogging] .m4v problem resolved?

2006-04-09 Thread M. Mart
Title: .m4v problem resolved?

 Hello Vloggers:
No sooner had I sent the last message here then it occurred to me that the problem might be with the hosting service. I called the help desk at godaddy.com and the young lady was very helpful and identified the problem as residing with them - they do not have the plugin required to host .m4v files.

She said I was the first person to report this and they will do what they can to add the plugin. (She claimed not to know what vlog meant.) Indicating that this file type is to allow downloading to iPods and somewhat surprised that no one has yet reported this problem, I joked about not letting her know my age, that I dont own an iPod, and that I can still learn new tricks on the internet.
Hoping this is really the problem, and unless I hear otherwise from this group, Ill wait to hear from godaddy.com hosting that the problem is no more. Of course I will report back here.

[videoblogging] First Vlog

2006-04-05 Thread M. Mart
Title: First Vlog

Hello All:
Thanks to what I learned from Michael's and Ryanne's Freevlog.org I was able to create and launch a vlog I have been working on for some time. A weekly (maybe daily) video reading of poetry by the poet.
www.poetryvlog.com
The site is not artistic, or zippy, but it does serve the purpose of promoting poetry and the individual poets.
There is more to learn and add, such as RSS feed and making the site downloadable to iPods.
Any suggestions and encouragement you can offer will be appreciated.
