[videoblogging] Macbook Pro + Final Cut Express 4 = Fail!

2009-01-01 Thread Sheldon Pineo
Ok folks. Santa brought me a 4gig MBP and a copy of FCE 4. I've been using
Premiere Pro 1.5 for the past few years and wanted to switch to something
that can handle HD.

I'm working on a simple sequence using a green screen and some simple
graphics. My problem is in rendering. First, Real Time rendering, even
with the frame rate set low, stops due to dropping frames so it's not
possible to watch the sequence.
If I switch to safe render, nothing shows until the sequence is rendered
which takes 15 minutes for a 2 minute segment! Then, if I make a change, it
wants to render again.

Seeing the number of people on this list with MBPs and using FC Pro, I know
most, if not all, of my problems are settings, or something very simple.
Any ideas on how I can make this a better experience?

Oh. Original footage is from my Canon HV30 shot in HDV mode.

Thanks!

I use Premiere Pro for my videozine, however Premiere Elements, does
99.9% of what I need and is a lot less.

This is my QT Routine. It works with Pro, and should work with
Elements and WMM. (since the starting file format is the same.)

I export the file in a DV format (avi)

Then Videora (free) is used to create my mp4 files.
Sometimes I get a blank frame at every 9 minutes 30 seconds. I don't
know what causes it, however to get around it, I use QT pro to export
the avi as a mov using the Save As function. Tis file is then used
in Videora.

I use to use QT Pro for all my mp4 conversions, however h264
compression takes way too long!

Hope this helps. I can do a screen capture video on this topic if
you're interested.

[videoblogging] iTunes 5 - Quicktime 7 and Windows

2005-09-11 Thread Sheldon Pineo
For Windows users:

Has anyone with QT Pro 6 installed iT5 without the QT7 upgrade?

I've purchased a key for QT7 and it does not work with my
installation, so I've rolled back to QT6.5 To do this, I had to
uninstall iT5, QT7 and reinstall iT4.9 which installed 6.5.

I'd like to upgrade to 5, however it won't let me past the pro key warning.

Any ideas?

[videoblogging] DivX vs H264

2005-08-19 Thread Sheldon Pineo

So the title says it all. What's good about each, what's bad, what do
you like to use? I've seen a lot of both and don't see much of a
difference. Now other than Mac vs PC, what are the benefits and
drawbacks of either format.

Myself, I publish my Geocaching Videovine in many formats, however the
best version is DivX. Once OT Pro windows comes out, I might pick it
up so I can do H264 for the Mac crowd.

What do you guys think?

Following the instructions on that page, you can add a 1-click

iTunes will open up and they'll be automagically subscribed, *even* if
you're not listed in the directory.

You actually need 2 buttons, 1 for PC and 1 for Mac (iTunes sucks like
that), the page explains it all.

If your videos don't show up in iTunes it's probably because
 a) you don't do Quicktime videos
 b) your feed doesn't use enclosures

Let me know if you have any questions. Hope you like it :)

Ok. The buttons are now on my blogspot page. They look great!
Unfortunately, they don't do a thing!
Here's my stuff:
Box - PC
Browser - Firefox
OS - XP Pro SP2
Itunes - 4.9.0.17
RSS Feed - http://feeds.feedburner.com/icenryevideo
Mefeedia ID - 527
QT - Pro 6.5.2

When I click on my button , iTunes opens, but nothing shows up. If I
drag the PC link to iTunes, the blog name shows up, but I get an !
telling me there's no feed.

The mac link, however, when dragged to iTunes seems to work!

Looking at the code I notice the mac link contains my feedburner link.
So I dragged the feedburner link into iTunes, an voila! Video. I'm
guessing the problem is with this:
http://mefeedia.com/pcast/527.pcast link.

I thought the problem might be my coding, but the link on Dummycast
didn't work and I have a link to Michael Verdi's site which also comes
up empty.

On a better note, I've added the archive thumbnail code to my site and
it looks good so far. A few entries missing, however you mentioned it
will get better in time. I'm, looking forward to more great stuff
from Mefeedia.

The 4 gig limit might be caused by the QT compression codec. I have 6

Doing a google search on adobe premiere 4 gig limit brings up many
interesting articles. The problem it seems comes from either file

Hi Josh. Good to hear from you. That question has been asked a lot.
No, I don't put spoilers in the video. I just like to tease! :)-

I made a geocaching video about a month ago:

Know it well. It sits on my hard drive with other geo videos. I was
inspired by some of your shots and used similar themes in episode 4.
I also added music because of you video.

Geocaching videos can really get you a unique audience, my geocaching video
got the most hts out of all videos i have made because i told the geocahing
message boards about it...they love that stuff!

I'm not getting the traffic yet, but I'm trying.

 keep up the good work!

Thanks! It was you vlog site that gave me the idea to start my own.

Hey Sheldon, I remember your vlog from the dog training clip, around
the obstacle course or something? I got a kick out of it, thanks.

Ah yes. That would be this:

little something I threw together while enjoying a glass of wine.

You should also check out this entry:

Your geocaching thing reminded me to find some sites around here...now
 I just need a gps :)

It's so much fun! Combine it with vlogging, and the possibilities are endless!!

Forgive me my ignorance, I'm a windows user who wanted to produce QT
movies ... and apple.com says QT Pro will do it ... so I've considered it.

I have QT Pro. V6.5 I only use it for compressing to .mov, or .mp4
for my videos. It does the job fine, however I do get large file
sizes. When I compare a mp4 to a wmv file (250kps music 32kbs 15fps)
I generally prefer the wmv format. For the high end codecs, I use
DivX.

If you want to compare results, check out either episode 3 or 4 of my
Geocaching videozine. They're available in mov, mp4, wmv, rm and avi
formats. You can download, watch and compare.

Episode 3 is http://www.archive.org/details/IcenryesGeocachingVideozineEpisode3
here.
Episode 4 is http://www.archive.org/details/IcenryesGeocachingVideozineEpisode4
here.

but if someone could vlog a) what QT Pro can do for you
as oppossed to say ulead's 'video studio 9' (which can save .mov
files) and b) how QT actually does what it does (the interface I
mean), I would be veary eager to see that vlog.

It already exist. Check out the tutorials at http://www.freevlog.org/

Hope this helps.

[videoblogging] Hello World!

2005-07-26 Thread Sheldon Pineo

Hi! My name is Sheldon Pineo and I'm from the Great White North of
Canada. I'm just starting to videoblog, and I'm loving every minute
of it!
I've been making videos for a few years, mostly focusing on the canine
sport of agility and in 2002 made a 90 minute video titled The
Wizards of Paws. Since then I've created other short pieces on
agility.
My latest topic is geocaching. I produce a video magazine called
Icenrye's Geocaching Videozine. So far there has been 4 episodes
and viewership is growing.
As for videoblogging, I'm finding it's a total release from the
formality of a proper production. I can turn on the camera and let
it rip. After watching many vlogs, I've started using some of the
techniques in my regular videos.
I hope to get lots of information on production, editing, compressing
and hosting along with tips on getting viewers and keeping my content
fresh to keep people coming back.
So, where am I? My home page is http://www.icenrye.com This has
links to my older stuff. My blog site is
http://www.icenrye.blogspot.com
So thanks for having me as a member and I'm looking forward to many
exchanges of information in the future.
Cheers!
