[videoblogging] Re: Dave's visual archive (Blip's Visual Archive)

2006-05-04 Thread Mike Moon

I received a couple messages from users wanting to know about the blip
visual archive. For others that might also be looking into it, you can
find it on the blip Control Panel and under Share With Others the
Sidebar option.

I finally got it to work. If you use the code from the preview window
(without making changes) and manually make changes within the html
itself, all is fine.
If you make the changes within the blip preview and push the Refresh
Preview button, the code has issues and doesn't show me anything.

Anyhow, looks great, works for me.

You might know this - but with Blogger templates, make sure you're
dropping the code in the proper place. For example, if you want
something to appear in the sidebar, you have to drop the code into the
area of CODE marked Sidebar - which is different from the CSS area
marked sidebar.

2006-05-03 Thread Michael Verdi

Hey Mike,I'm not sure what problems you're having with the blip thumbnail code. I just tested it out in a blogger post and sidebar - it worked (though I had to tell it to ignore the _javascript_ error on the blog post).
The thing about thumbnails in general - it's an automated process. So it's not always going to be the frame for your video. Though it looks like Blip uses your image if you uploaded one with your video.
As far a Mefeedia goes, maybe Peter can say something about it, but the missing thumbnails are for videos it hasn't had the chance to get to. I don't know how long it takes. The nice thing about Mefeedia's thumbnails is that they'll work for all the videos in your RSS feed, no matter where they're hosted.

We are doing a ton of streamlining these days with some architectural changes coming as well that will optimize this process. The thumbnails (as those who have been around for a while know) have always been a pain to keep up with so we are trying to make that much better.
As far as what thumbnail gets displayed for a clip, we use a 'snapshot' of somewhere in the first few seconds. The ability to indicate what thumbnail gets displayed is something Peter Mike and I have on the table for discussion.
