Or you could just do a quick two-finger single-tap when a message comes in to shut VoiceOver up. Personally, I'd rather have the setting for describing images on than turn it off for such a small problem, but to each their own. I also don't really mind my phone vibrating when a new message

H! I have Whatsapp on my iPhone 8 and downloaded it from the app store. I don't remember a Whatsapp Messenger. The Whatsapp I have can be used world wide but a person has to be in your iPhone contacts to make the contact. There is an option to send a voice message on my app. Anne

No, definitely not happening here and there hasn't been anything posted about this. I suggest you delete Whats App and reinstall it which should hopefully fix the problem. Maybe also check other voice messages to make sure it's not some weird thing happening with just that particular message.
