I may not be the best one to address this topic but I'll say what I believe is
right. You'll get the most restored from an iTunes encrypted backup. Also, make
sure you sync your iPod with your computer

Earlier in the week I wrote concerning a lost passcode. Today I went to
Apple’s genius bar and had the phone reset but was advised that I had to
complete the process of backing up from my own
On the phone go to settings then iTunes and iPhone. Make sure that your id and
password are there. Then from the App Store hgo to update. From there you will
see a tab for purchases. OOD you don't see this you may need to restore from a
backup first
