Can't update my iPad mini.
Hi all, My iPad mini says I have seven updates, but when I double tap on the app store icon and then the update tab I get a blank screen. I have tried a soft and hard reboot, and synced with itunes. Chuck, my wife is having the same issue with her iPad second-generation. She is not using any adaptive services on the device. She goes to the app store, updates and it shows nothing. Dice world and how to change sides when scoring your role?

Re: Can't update my iPad mini.
hi, i don't have the exact problem however, whenever i update apps on the ipad thru the apps store, there will be some updates appearing that belong to other device but the ipad. I never install those apps on my ipad. It seems like there're no way to get rid of them. I've try closing the appstore completely and restart, i've try reboot the ipad both soft reboot and hard reboot. The only thing i haven't try is to do a complete reset/restore of the ipad. I reckon, i have this problem since IOS6.14 with IPad Mini. Anyone can share some lights on this? I prefer to create my birthdays in my main calendar. That way, I only have to use one calendar. Also, everything is just Together in that one calendar. Others may prefer it another way. Re: I recorded A Call With List Recorder
Thanks to all the people who told me how to do this, per your request, here is the procedure for recording a call using List Recorder. First open List Recorder. Then hit the home key to close it. This will put List Recorder in your app switcher. Now make your phone call. Have your phone on speaker phone. Once you call is made go into your app switcher and open List Recorder again. Then find the record button and press it. A little guitar strum will play, and then you can start your recording. Once you finish the call stop the recording there will be a stop button. If you have any other questions please let me know. God bless, Ren P. S. You need to have your phone on speaker because List Recorder will not record if your phone is not an speaker your voice will be recorded live and the other persons voice will come through the speaker. It does work. It takes some practice to do it, but it really can be done. Re: Dice world and how to change sides when scoring your role?
Bret, can't answer about the full house etc., but in the podcast on applevis at least in Yatsi you need to flick up with 3 fingers on screen to take you to the next screen. This shows these moves. Sorry can't be more helpful as I only know pig and farkle. Oh, on Balut at least, there is a switch player button in the lower right screen, not the corner, but about a third of the way up. Just happened to see this too, but again, know nothing of the game yet. Hi Joanne, I assume you have another iDevice like an iPhone or iPod Touch? If so, make sure you go to Settings and iTunes and App Store and make sure that automatically download apps is turned off. Re: Problem with voice dream reader
I just tried it, and after it reached 100 percent I ended up at the home screen and the book was not in my list. I'd suggest you write the developer directly. It could be the book size, or maybe an error with the book, though it is more likely an issue with Voice Dream. I did discover you can activate Siri from this earpeace. You press and hold the outer housing for two beeps. You will hear the Siri activation tone. I am still having trouble answering calls. First, a friend who has the same device gets the Audible notice to say answer or ignore. I do not. When I press the outer housing wants to answer a call, I get echo through my year. To get a clear call, I have to flip the power switch down and back up. Then all works wonderfully. It is really too bad. I have contacted tech support three times and still have not gotten any further than I have on my own. The documentation is minimal to useless. This is one of the lightest and most comfortable single earpieces I have tried. If we could just get some definitive clarification how to take and and calls. My friend who does have the voice prompt to answer or ignore calls also has the echo in his ear until he shuts off the power and turns it back on. Recording Phone calls, was: I recorded A Call With List Recorder
Hello, I had a look at your 2 app suggestions, Call Recorder - phone calls recorder by William Wood and TapeACall Lite - Record Calls by Epic Enterprises. Here are my thoughts: First, Apple does not allow the recording of phone calls because in many jurisdictions it is illegal to do that. Now, the fact that List Recorder and there are a few other apps that can do this, can record a call that is in progress on the speakerphone is a fluke and if Apple was told about it they would pull these apps until the developers would disable this capability. As for the 2 apps you mentioned: Call Recorder is a VoIP app and that changes the game. Just about any VoIP app I know of has a recording function. This means you can make calls with the app via VoIP and record these calls. While I didn't see it in the app description, I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was some sort of notification or beep after you start recording, but the fact is that this would not work for incoming calls since there is no mention that the Call Recorder VoIP service provides an inbound number. I also didn't take a look at their rates, but they do state that after whatever trial credit they give you, you have to buy minutes from them and of course you have to place your call via WiFi or 3G/KLTE, the latter will use up cellular data. Tape A Call is like any other call recorder app out there, it records calls using a server and 3-way calling. Here is what it says in the app description: How does this app record calls? When you're on a call and you want to record it, open TapeACall and press the record button. We will put your call on hold and dial our recording line. As soon as our line answers tap the merge button on your screen to create a 3 way call between your other caller and our recording line. If you want to record an outgoing call, just press the record button. The app will dial our recording line and will begin recording as soon as our line answers. Once that happens, tap the add call button on your screen, call the person you want to record, then press the merge button when they answer. The say we will dial our recording line which means you are possibly dialing a long distance number. Most of such services require a subscription. Tape a Call says that with their Pro app which is $10 you do not have to pay any subscriptions which I guess could be a good thing if you really need to frequently record calls, but it's not a smooth process, i.e. if you receive a call and want to record it, you will have to let the other person know, bring up the app, tap on Record and wait for the app to dial the recording line/server, then merge the calls which requires that you have 3-way calling as a feature from your provider. Re: I recorded A Call With List Recorder
Hi, from what I understand, it doesn't cost anything if you have an local access number. They said in the information but if you contact them they will get a local access number for you, but you do have to have three way calling available so they can dial their servers. I also don't know if this this app table call uses Wi-Fi or not. If it does not that would cost too. It also will cost if you call outside the US. No I don't need to contradict anyone. This is just my understanding from what I read from the description in the app store for tape a call. I read dictated it because it sounded like it said table call. If anyone has any more information that they could share please do so. It's interesting to find out about other apps so thank you all for the offers and for all the information. Re: Recording Phone calls, was: I recorded A Call With List Recorder
Hi. If I may add to what Sieghard has said, those call-recording solutions which use three-way calling are not usually worth the money. Keep in mind that you can set up such a system with nothing more than a small amount of technical knowledge and a cheap Skype or VOIP number. This allows you to keep the call recordings under your own control on your own systems. It also allows you to act on the recordings, that is, to have them emailed when done, to have them posted to a site or cloud storage service, to have links SMSed to them, etc. Finally, it allows you to dispense with notifications if your jurisdiction is one where notifications of recording are not legally required. It may also be worth noting that you can set up a VOIP pBX so that every call you make or receive is recorded, whether in or out. I hope that's of use. Hi, if you don't mind sharing your knowledge, how would we go about setting these things up? I am totally new to this, and I prefer your ways and appreciate what you and Seegert said. I do not want to dial a server to record phone calls. So thank you for the information. God bless, wren PS. You can write me off list if you would like. Thank you very much. question and possible email concern
Hi, everyone. First of all, if this has been covered in past messages, I apologize. Since I have had no email concerns relating to email on my IPhoneI just deleted those messages with email in the subject line, so I may have missed something important. Now to my question. I receive work related email both on my IPhone and on my windows XP computer at work. This evening I got a call from a friend who received an email message with a link in it. The message was supposedly sent from me and had my name in the from line. . At the end of the message it said sent from my IPhone. He also told me he's gotten the same type of email messages from someone else that works with me. That person doesn't have an IPhone. The question is: can an IPhone be hacked? Is there anything I need to do? Sorry if this sounds stupid. I don't want to send anyone infected items, nor do I want my IPhone to be infected. I use gmail on an IPhone 4S. Thanks for any thoughts. RE: Dice world and how to change sides when scoring your role?
Hello MamaPeach, Well that is a good question. MamaPeach I believe from the Main Page itself. You have the list of games. To remove a game like those Practice game you've created. I think all you have to do is tap on the game itself. Now flick up. This gives you the option to delete it. I believe you can also do the same method by double tap and hold. Swipe to the right. It should also give you the option to delete it. Remember that the Rotor must be on the Actions mode for the vlick up to work. I hope whoever can answer the question will write on list, because I too would like to know the answer to this. I really enjoyed playing the Bobbitt game. I never could press the right button, because sometimes it would go to Facebook as a result of me not pressing the right button with voiceover off. Any help would be appreciated. gps comparison pod cast
Hi everyone, all righty. The pod cast is done and I submitted it, it will hopefully be available on the blind geek zone web site in a couple days. the competition ended up being 3 apps instead of 5, in TomTom, the options to do a google local search or foursquare search are no longer accessible. In the Garmin app, there seems to be no way to change to a walk root, but even at the default setting, the turns were not announced. The other odd, and perhaps amusing thing that happened was that blind square announced that there was a strip club about 300 feet away. Unless someone is running that out of an apartment, which I guess is possible, that's probably an incorrect label, it's pretty much all apartments in this area. Anyway, it was definitely a fun pod cast to do, and I hope everyone enjoys it once it's posted. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: question and possible email concern
IOS has some known vulnerabilities, so it's theoretically possible for an iPhone to be hacked. Since the means of accessing an unjailbroken iPhone are restricted though, it's very unlikely your iPhone was hacked, and there really isn't anything you can or should need to do on your iPhone. It's much more likely that your Windows XP system has been infected with malware or your email account has been compromised somehow. I'd suggest running the usual anti-malware scans on your Windows system and changing your email account's password. BTW, the fact that the message says it's from your iPhone means nothing. The contents of the message, and the headers as well, can easily be spoofed. On 07/28/2013 07:40 PM, Paul and Paula Jordan wrote: Hi, everyone. The message was supposedly sent from me and had my name in the “from” line. . At the end of the message it said “sent from my IPhone”. He also told me he’s gotten the same type of email messages from someone else that works with me. That person doesn’t have an IPhone. The question is: can an IPhone be hacked? Is there anything I need to do? Sorry if this sounds stupid. I don’t want to send anyone infected items, nor do I want my IPhone to be infected. I use gmail on an IPhone 4S. Thanks for any thoughts. moderator's note about hijacked threads
Hello all. The hijacked threads are popping up once again. Here's an example. There was a thread started by Kelly on July 24 regarding a survivors game. Then Brett wrote in that same thread earlier at 3:57 this morning asking questions about Dice World. Then Mike wrote in that same thread a little bit ago at 9:41 PM still to talk about the GPS comparison podcast. This means that one single thread contains 3 completely separate conversations. If you sort your email by threads, like the iOS mail program does by default, you may miss some of all of these if one specific thread doesn't interest you. The best way to start a new conversation is to simply press the compose button in your iDevice, or the new message hot key in your Windows or Mac mail program, address the message to viphone@googlegroups.com and write the appropriate subject and message content. I hope this helps. -- Raul A. Gallegos Twitter and Facebook user ID: rau47 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: Recording Phone Internal
One reason I record my phone calls is that I often call bus companies to get bus route information. Ezzie Ez Bueno Sent from my iPhone (562) 964-3562 On Jul 27, 2013, at 6:03 AM, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote: There are many reason’s why one would want to record a call. Primarily it would be to summarize a call afterwards and write down notes. For example, you might have a long call with a travel agent to discuss the details of a trip you are booking. Maybe you are on a tech support call or are doing training over the phone. Maybe you participate in a conference call for work and are expected to refer back to things that were discussed. You might also own a business and want to record calls with your customers for their and your protection, i.e. a customer might say “But you told me that this was included” or “but you told me the price was only this much when I called”. If you have a recording of the call you could check back. These are just some examples or situations I can think of right now. Most VoIP programs, apps and services allow you to very easily record a phone call, but they mostly play an announcement when you start recording and then a beep is heard every so often. It is in fact illegal in many States and countries to record calls or at least to record calls without letting the other party know. I think most people won’t have a problem with it if you tell them especially if you are not discussing legal issues over the phone. If I have a training session about some software or piece of hardware I bought, I doubt the person on the other end would mind if I told him that I would like to record the call so I can later refer back to what was said. Just as in a lecture, this is often easier than trying to take notes because if I record I can fully concentrate on what is being said. Of course, with the sendero gps app, it may be that blind users do not use these apps as much. I'm more than willing to do an updated comparison, it would be kind of fun, but was wondering how much interest people would have in this. Re: Review of Guitar APP and Connection Kit for iOS Devices
cool. I've heard similar comments from others too, so I'll definitely check taht one out. Actually, I still haven't gotten myself an iPhone. I'm just starting to research what apps I want, doing lots of reading etc. I'm thinking that with a new iPhone likely this fall, the prices on the 5 will fall soon after and it'll be a good time to jump into all this fun. You essentially have a choice between larger, USB-type interfaces that sound good, or smaller interfaces such as the iRig, which connect via the headphone jack and sound, well, less good. IK Multimedia aim to change all that with the introduction of the iRig HD. Studio is Amplitube 3's built-in mini-DAW, but you'll need to make an in-app purchase if you want the full eight tracks. The iRig HD connects to your iOS device via a 30-pin, Lightning or USB connector, which covers just about every generation of Apple or Android device. Best of all is that a separate cable for each connection is supplied with the unit. The iRig HD enjoys a clean-sounding, low-noise preamp with 24-bit A-D conversion that should satisfy most users (anyone too picky for this probably wouldn't be using modelled guitar apps anyway). The interface has a quarter-inch guitar input, a gain-control wheel and a signal-dependent LED. The unit is particularly light; so light, in fact, that there's a very real danger of your guitar cable yanking it off whatever it's sitting on and dragging your iOS device along with it. Despite this tendency, the iRig HD is a classy device and guitarists seeking a high-quality, highly portable interface need look no further. Also worthy of attention is IK's new iLine kit ($59.99), which bundles six useful cables into a handy carrying case and enables you to connect your iOS device to almost anything via stereo or mono adaptors, extenders or splitters. Now plugging your iPhone or iPad into a mixer or guitar amp couldn't be easier. This is a 'must have' addition to any iOS guitarist's kit! Amplitube 3 is IK Multimedia's latest update to their guitar amp and effects app. The core set of five modelled guitar amps hasn't changed, and includes Fender, Vox, Marshall and Mesa-Boogie models, supplemented with an Ampeg bass. Eleven effects are provided, including the expected delay, chorus, filter, fuzz and overdrive. (Amplitube users purchasing the iRig HD will get two new amps and two new pedals as a bonus.) Surprisingly, there is no compressor included (it's available only via an in-app purchase), and I also missed not having a traditional noise gate (another in-app purchase option). The Noise Filter provided doesn't adequately gate amp noise and instead applies a low-pass EQ to the guitar signal, darkening the sound significantly. On the other hand, this really helps to roll back the digital glassiness present on most amp models. The amps are pretty noisy when cranked up, so this filter will need to be present in the first effect slot most of the time, especially if you're using guitars with single-coil pickups. New to version 3 (via another in-app purchase) is Amplitube Studio, which is a DAW package allowing basic recording and editing. It offers a reasonable feature set that includes the ability to click and drag tracks around, create fades, split and trim audio files, punch-in record and loop sections for playback. Each track has a VU meter, three-band EQ, fader, pan knob and two master effects sends (only one on the iPhone). Solo and mute buttons are also available per track. Audiobus integration and support for Audio Copy/Paste allows Amplitube Studio to communicate with other iOS music apps. A feature referred to as 'effects freeze' allows you to use a separate rig for each track. You record your guitar signal dry and apply the guitar rig settings during playback. This allows you to go back and change the rig after recording, which is especially handy if you're not happy with the way something is sitting in the mix. This is all good stuff, but not everything is rosy in the garden. I would have expected a few more amps and effects to be included with a
At Bat and mlb.com
Hi I thought I had read on this list several months ago that if you had a mlb.com account, you could listen to games on the iPhone without purchasing a separate At Bat subscription. I have had a mlb.com subscription for as long as it has been around. So I downloaded and installed At bat, read the help, and did the steps to create an user id and password using my mlb.com user id and password. I just installed the update to At Bat this morning. So when I open At Bat, and double tap login, it asks me to log in using my mlb.com user id and password. When I enter the user id and password and double tap the log in or go button, it tells me you don't have access to this feature, see inapp purchases. To be able to listen to games on both the iPhone and the pc, do you have to purchase subscriptions to both services, or can you do this only purchasing one. If you can do this using only one, which one would that be. Thanks. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Blue tooth speaker
Hi Kayla and all, I recently purchased the following external Bluetooth speaker and am quite happy with it. Though it is selling for $44, I bought it on sale for $35 two weeks ago and arrived the very next day. This speaker paired with my iPod Touch 5th gen incredibly easily. I primarily bought it for listening to podcasts when completing my dreaded house chores, and it certainly does a great job. (Smile). See below for all details regarding compatible devices such as iPhone etc, and see way below for YouTube link. Oh yeah, I think there is a smaller version and a larger version of this speaker. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875983552nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL071813cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL071813-_-EMC-071813-Index-_-BluetoothCellPhoneAccessories-_-75983552-L014A Pros: *This has great sound for what I need it to do; especially for the spoken word. It will definitely fill a bedroom, office, or garage. *When one cranks the volume to 100% there is no distortion. *Bluetooth is very responsive when one uses IOS device to send commands. *Other users report that the included rechargeable battery can be easily replaced with a $7 cell phone battery. This means that with a small investment one can have 14 hours of wireless sound for only $7 more. *Battery life is expected to be 6 to hours per charge. I'm often turning it on and off so haven't tested with any degree of accuracy on my behalf. *There are blind friendly tactile buttons rather than a touch screen for modifying volume and changing tracks. *One can configure Siri to speak via this speaker or through one's IOS device. *You can charge with your computer using full USB adaptor or via the included wall charger. *One can use this device to perform as a speaker phone on an IOS device. I've not tested this so don't know about the quality of the mic. *One can attach this device to their home stereo in order to use one's IOS device to control the home stereo speakers. This goes for any other stereo such as a boom box and such. In other words, if you for whatever reason don't think the volume is loud enough in this unit, you can attach to your home stereo or boom box and really crank up the sound while controlling the music from your iPhone. Cons: *I'm not too crazy about the shape. It's a bit difficult to describe, but it is about 8.5 inches long with and oval shape and a type of fine grill across the front face. It is about 2 inches in height and about 3 inches in depth. To me, it looks like the shape of a squinting eye. (It is a nice black and has all buttons on top.) *It slides around a bit to easily when placed on a smooth surface; I think the manufacturer should have used rubber feet on this speaker. With that said, the customer reviews from sighted customers just about all state they like the look and feel of this speaker. *The unit does not clearly convey to the blind user that it has been completely turned off. Then again, I've had 0 problems with leaving on, and there might be a setting that confirms this which I have not yet found. *As a blind user I had a bit of a tricky time installing the rechargeable battery, but now that I've learned how the battery is removed and reinserted, this process is very simple. If you purchase this speaker please feel free to write and I'll type up a description of how to insert the battery though you might quickly figure it out on your own. :) Newegg.com website Description: *Stream wireless music from the latest tablets, smartphones, laptops, iPad, iPhone and more *Utilizes Bluetooth v2.1+EDR with A2DP and AVRCP for high-fidelity audio transmission and control *Long lasting rechargeable battery for up to 6-8 hours of continuous audio feedback *Compact and stylish design that travels easily for convenient, portable audio wherever you go *On-board controls for pairing, volume, pause, play, next, previous, and answer or end a phone call *Universal Function: Like to listen to your music wirelessly? I have found that one of the biggest difficulties I have is holding the phone steady enough to take clear pictures. I personally can't afford purchasing devices to hold the phone so I came up with another idea. I have found that I can take pretty good pics if the phone is resting on a table top or something. However, I still tend to jiggle the phone when tapping the button to take a pic or start the video and the like. My thought here is asking the developers to add the ability to activate pic taking or video starting and stopping via a sound. this would enable us to position the phone and then clap our hands or whistle or something to activate it. I figure that if you folks feel this would be helpful enough I'd start the discussion with the developers and see if they would be open to such a change. So, what do you all think? Thanks. Introduction And File Storage Questionn
Hi Everyone, I tried to post this message yesterday, but never saw it come through on the list, so I apologize profusely if you received it twice! If you did, could someone explain why I am receiving mail from this list, but am not seeing my own posting? Thanks! My name is Desi Noller and I live in Phoenix Arizona. I have an iMac, an iPhone 4S, and a 4th Generation iPod Touch. My husband who is sighted also uses an iMac, iPhone 4S, and a 2nd Generation iPad. So, I guess you could say we have become a total Apple family. Recently, after some very unfortunate dealings with one of the companies who sells dedicated Braille NoteTakers, I decided to take the plunge and purchase a Braille Display for use with my Apple products. I have a 40 cell display, and I have had no trouble connecting it via USB to my iMac, or pairing it with my iOS devices! When I had a Braille NoteTaker, I stored a lot of information that I wanted particularly in Braille, on that device. Now that I can't do that anymore, I would like to find a way to store a number of my Braille and text files on my iPod Touch. Is anyone else out there using a Braille Display with an iOS device in place of a dedicated NoteTaker? If so, have you found a way to store folders and files so that you can have access to them no matter where you are, and whether or not you have a wireless connection? Any suggestions would be immensely appreciated! Desi -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. I would have expected a few more amps and effects to be included with a third-generation app. Too much time is wasted cancelling out unwanted pop-up dialogues asking if you'd like to make an in-app purchase, and some presets that come loaded with the core app can't be used until you

Re: Introduction And File Storage Questionn
I understand how you feel. For several years, I owned a BrailleNote, and having the ability to just whip out your note-taker, turn it on, and quickly jot something down was really great. As to your file-storage questions: I use an appp called Notesy to take notes. I can't remember how much it costs, but it's not too expensive--probably only a few bucks. The app has some accessibility quirks, though I think they have more to do with VoiceOver rather than with the app itself. You can work with files off-line, and they can be synced to Dropbox if you use that. I do, and it's super easy to set up and then forget about. :D Having your notes synced with Dropbox means that you always have things backed up; you can also work with notes from your computer if using this setup. I hope this helps you. Re: reading with a braille display
Hi Rebecca, When you get to the page chooser in iBooks, pan left once. Then the Space with O command will work just fine. Some braille displays have keys that do the same thing as Space with O. For instance, the right rocker switch on the front of the Focus 40 moves you to the next page when you press down on it. Just be sure to pan left once from the page chooser before you press the switch or Space with O. Cheers, Anna On Jul 27, 2013, at 7:49 PM, Rebecca Ilniski rilni...@gmail.com wrote: Hi everyone. RE: At Bat and mlb.com
Mike, From what I was told by MLB, you need to purchase the subscription on the iOS device to get the web access for no extra charge. If you go the other route you end up paying for two subscriptions. I wrote about this back when the season was starting. http://blog.kellyford.org/take-note-how-you-purchase-mlb-gameday-audio/ -Original Message- From: Mike O'Brien [mailto:obrien.2...@gmail.com] Sent: Friday, July 26, 2013 11:32 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: At Bat and mlb.com Hi I thought I had read on this list several months ago that if you had a mlb.com account, you could listen to games on the iPhone without purchasing a separate At Bat subscription. Re: getting a mac
My favorite is MacVisionaries, which is owned and moderated by the same folks who moderate this list. The URL should be mavisionaries+subscr...@googlegroups.com. I think a lot of folks from this list are on that list as well. It's the first mac list I joined, and my favorite (I'm also on MacVoiceOver, but I don't have it's url, and it's not as big as MacVisionaries, and hasn't been around as long. There do seem to be several mac lists out therre, but really want to try to focus on the best ones. Thanks, Don -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Navigon Now Not Working?
Hello List, I was wondering if anyone has used Navigon Now recently. I attempted to use it today, but when I went to launch it to Navigon to begin the navigation, it just hung and wouldn't open it. I haven't had a chance to delete it from the phone and install it again to see if it would fix it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as it speed up the process when putting in an address into all of the edit fields in Navigon. Thanks.
