But I thought I'd let them know anyway because that's quite a point against buying their product which otherwise is very attractive. I wasn't surprised by your results because we have Braille Sense machines here and had experienced this lag. There are two reasons why I wanted to add the Smart Beetle, partily because it's that much smaller for taking around and, secondly, because I was hoping the lag would have been solved by the introduction of the Beetle. However, all is not yet lost because I think there probably will soon be a new driver and, well, I'm just holding on and hoping that this will solve at least a good part of the lagging. I have mentioned this to the Accessability Team at accessibil...@apple.com and I'd really advise you to do the same just as soon as you can. I'm also going to double check with HIMS that Apple are supposed to do the driver and not HIMS themselves. If you're not a very fast Braillist then all may well not be lost for you, especially if you're prepared to make that cuppa whilst you wait for the translation. I feel fairly sure that the problem is the same whether you're copying from the clipboard or writing in real time, and it's a lag in translation, I think. However, I'm not the expert, so we'll just go on telling them all what we know and what's important to us. Smiles I will write to the Accessability Team again myself to highlight this issue, in view of the recent introduction of Smart Beetle and what I've gleaned so far, so then they can't be saying they didn't know
RE: using knfb reader version 2 with the Fopydo stand
I don’t know, I’ve not tried magazines. I suppose it will depend on how large the magazine is. You can raise the height of the Fopydo to 14 inches above the document and still have it be stable. That is just what he has marked so you can be sure the platform is level. You could possibly get it even higher, but it might become too top heavy. IPod touch sixth generation battery life
For those of you who have purchased the newest iPod touch, I am curious how is the battery life? I have an iPad mini, which I like quite a bit, but I know that the touch has a little bit better chip in it. I also have an iPhone 5 S, which I'm really satisfied with, but I noticed that I'm not getting the battery life out of it that I used to, not surprising given how much I use it. So I'm thinking about upgrading my phone and turning the 5S into more or less an iPod touch. My old for S is about done. I'm curious about the new touches battery life, however, because it would be far cheaper to get one of those and then it would be to purchase a new phone. All of this is just in the thinking stage. I have read articles about the battery life compared to the iPad mini, but of course, that is with the video fully engaged. And I don't plan to do that with a new touch. So, any comments would be appreciated. Mary Sent from my iPhone -- The following information is important for all members of the VIPhone list. Re: IPod touch sixth generation battery life
I bought it on July 19th. I usually lock it while listening to books or music. I am not sure it is getting as good battery life as my 5th Generation did when I had it. They say you should get 40 hours of playback when locked. I'm probably getting half of that or less, I think. I have not kept a running log or anything, so it might be more. That still isn't bad but not what I expected. RE: crashed iphone?
I had to do this, soon after I got my Iphone 5s. One afternoon, I noticed I was getting no sound and when I checked with a neighbor, they too couldn't see anything and so when I called the Apple Store in Liverpool, they advised me to hold down, both the home and on-off buttons together, for around 20 seconds Whilst this didn't work ,I plugged my Iphone in, via the cable and plug which came with it and after around 10 minutes or so, it started working again. In more recent months, I have had a similar thing happen, whereby Voiceover just stopps talking altogether but then it will sometimes come back on of it's own acord. All very strange indeed and rather irritating. Regards Paul. the next time I run it way down and fully charge it, I'll try to keep beter track. In fact, maybe I will do what I did when I got my 5th gen a few years ago. I'll set it to shuffle and lock it and let it run and see what happens. I have almost 4 days worth of music, so that won't be a problem. Calling 9 1 1 with SIRI
Hello, A year or two ago there was a discussion about how to best call 9 1 1 in a true emergency situation. Many on the list expressed concern that their dialing skills are maybe not so good and they were afraid that in a real emergency and under a lot of stress they may not be able to quickly bring up the emergency call screen from the lock screen and dial 9 1 1. At the time various apps were discussed as literally dozens of them exist to help with this. Some are very basic and others offer more features like dialing other emergency contacts or making it easy to send one's GPS coordinates to the 9 1 1 operator. When this discussion took place, it was not possible to call 9 1 1 by telling SIRI to Call 9 1 1. SIRI would inform you at that point that she couldn't do that. Recently I heard a Podcast where a situation was mentioned where a young guy got pinned under his car when he was doing repairs and his jack collapsed. Apparently he had his iPhone in his pocket and was somehow able to activate SIRI and shout Call 9 1 1. My first thought was that this is nonsense since it doesn't work. Then I thought that maybe things changed so I simply tried it. I told SIRI to Call 9 1 1 and surprise surprise, SIRI replied Calling emergency services in 5 seconds. Of course at that point I quickly hung up since I didn't really want to call, but it is good to know that one can now use SIRI in case of emergency to reach a 9 1 1 operator. I think the 5 second delay is a good way to prevent accidental calls and it allows one to try it out. Just make sure you have a reliable way to hang up before the call goes through, probably best with the Earpods where you can simply press the hang up button on the headset remote. Re: Difference Between Using a HotSpot or a Jetpack
One uses your phone to simulate a Jetpack, one *is* a Jetpack. Functionally, they both do the same thing, the only difference is one is on your phone and the other is a separate, dedicated device. If you use your phone, yes, it takes data; if you use a Jetpack, it does not. However, most cell plans nowadays give you a set amount of data to be shared between all your lines, of which your Jetpack is one. Thus, you can think of all data used by any device on your plan as counting toward your limit. Of course, this varies from provider to provider and plan to plan, so check with your particular provider to see how things work in your situation. The trend, though, is toward shared data among all lines on a plan.
