Re: Corrupted iPhone software

2016-06-27 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I don't see the original problem in the thread below, but data should
never corrupt any software. If it does, it isn't your fault, it's a bug
in the software.

Unfortunately, there is nothing I've ever found to do to adjust the volume of
the audio description.
Some movies it is very loud, and others are kind of low.

RE: Small update on the BotVac app accessibility.

I wonder how it will do under the computer desks or tables where they may be

Subject: Re: Small update on the BotVac app accessibility.

Hi Zoe,

Glad you like the sound of the BotVac, I certainly still like mine! I shall
have a shot at answering your questions.

Different types of flooring: I have wood, tile, Laminate and carpeting. I can't
say that the Bot performs differently from floor to floor, but it just works!
There are 2 types of brushes, which are very easy to change, One is like a
squeegee, called the spiral blade brush, which, I find, is especially good for
hard floors, but does a good job on carpets too! However, the other brush, the
one which comes installed, is a mixture of squeegee blade and bristles. I think
that this latter brush might be best for a deeper carpet brushing. I plan to
use that one, say, once a week and see how that does.

You were wondering about thresholds, I have various types of these, some
are just a small step of about half an inch, while others are real thresholds,
I.E., a sort of wooden strip, 5 inches across, which has a small up-step of a
quarter of an inch, then a slope up and then down and a little fall-off, the
Vac seems to take a run at it and clambers over!! I was standing very still,
and the Bot climbed onto my foot, and then up my ankle! I'd say he got to about
a 45 degree tip before I lost my nerve and ran off! It is like being harrassed
by a big beetle! Getting onto rugs etc is no problem at all! One of the few
times I got a message saying he was stuck, I found him rocking on top of the
dog's rubber bone! So, I don't see a problem with your doorways. Mind you, When
you get your Bot, you should have a little time to play with him and decide if
it will work for you.

Falling down stairs? This morning, I did my upstairs. When I did it first
time, I was concerned lest he fall down. I already knew he had "cliff
detection" (which I wish I had!!) but I wanted to be sure. This time I was busy
elsewhere, so left him to it, with no problems. The really cool thing, I find,
is that if you put him, say, upstairs, where there is no dock to go home to, he
will go back, to the exact spot where you started him off. This means, you
don't have to worry about finding him again! If you get into a habit of placing
him in the same spot, you will always know where he is when he is quiet and
finished.

As far as accessibility goes, the app is well done and totally accessible,
apart from the battery status, which VO can't recognise for some reason.
Neither can the KNFB Reader app, as it is just a icon whith some indicator
bars. I am still working on a work around for this!! You do get a few of the
error messages, but not all. However, as Jeramy discovered, there is a work
around for this which, in my opinion, is acceptable. Today, my internet went
off and will probably, stay off until my partner gets back, so, firstly, I
found the app could not find the Bot. So, I just used the Home button and it
did its job for me. At one point, it stopped and "bling blonged" at me. I
couldn't guess what was wrong! I felt sure I had emptied the bin, the brushes
felt OK and the battery should have been fine. So, with no app and no internet,
I had to get the KNFB Reader up (thank goodness it doesn't need the net to
work!) took a shot of the screen on the Vac and managed to read, not perfectly,
but well enough, that the bin needed emptying. I did this, though there wasn't
anything in it! Maybe the act of carrying it upstairs sprinkled some loose dust
on its sensors or something, but it then worked perfectly. So, if push comes to
shove, An OCR app may do. I couldn't use BE My Eyes, because of the no net
situation.

Sorry for such a long reply, please ask anything you like about this, my
new Pal!

Sandy.
PS If anyone, with no sight at all and one of these Vacs can tell me how they
manage to dock it, manually, and be sure it is in the correct position, I would
love to know how you do it!

Volume of audio description on Apple TV

2016-06-27 Thread Nancy Badger
Hello,
I just watched the movie allegiant on my third generation Apple TV. The audio
description was very loud while the volume of the actors speaking was very
soft. We played around with it trying to change the volume but could not find a

about it?

Re: Netflix Audio Description

2016-06-27 Thread Richard Turner

Brandon,
I just checked out Psych, and the first season doesn't have audio description,
but season 8 episode 1 does.
So, somewhere along the way they added it.
Also, in your settings on your device, make sure to go to settings, general,
accessibility and almost at the end of that page of settings, in the Media,
section, make sure Audio Description is turned on.
That should fix it so if a show has audio description, it will play
automatically.

I was the one with the voice problem with the Kendra voice. I never got it

it was an absolute no go. Other voices came back fine.

Re: Small update on the BotVac app accessibility.

2016-06-27 Thread Marie
Just thought I would give a little update on my first day with the Bot vac.
There were a few hiccups along the way but we got it done. I still have
trouble getting it to resume on it's own after getting stuck but from what
you said, I may be moving it too much. But even though it took some time to
finish, I am very pleased with the results. As far as I can tell, it did a
great job of cleaning. I am sure the kinks will get smoothed out with using
the app. I was not able to follow your directions to change from turbo to
eco however. When I tap on the Ready to clean, nothing happens? I will play
with it more until I get the hang of it hopefully. If not I will get help
setting up the schedule and let it go on it's merry way.
One more thing I want to add is that it was on sale at Best Buy for $629
instead of the usual $699, so I was happy with that.

Re: Did They Fix iTunes For Windows?

I did call the accessibility line, which is why I was so surprised at the
attitude.
I have another contact at Apple that I will be talking with.
Thanks,

RE: Netflix Audio Description

2016-06-27 Thread Merv Keck
I have not been able to get Audio Description the last couple of days. I don't
know if this season just doesn't have it which would be strange for them to not
have it for season seven when they had it for the first six seasons, or if
there is another issue. But I do miss it when it is not there.

can’t figure out how to enable it. Does anyone have an idea of how to do
this on the iPhone?

Hi,
Have you tried the backup that was created before the corrupted

Hello All,

I am delighted to recommend the CBS Local app to you as it is VoiceOver
accessible. The only bug I have found is that VoiceOver reads one of the
two menu buttons, located in the upper right corner of the display, as,
"headphones, button". So, when you hear VoiceOver say, "headphones,
button," go ahead and activate this button in order to display the
various

affiliate live streaming options in your area. The primary menu button,
located in the upper left corner of the display, is labeled correctly.

The primary purpose of this app is to keep you up-to-date via the local
CBS

television and radio affiliates in your area.

Be aware that you may change the local area at any time.

This is a free app, the description and link to which I will paste in
below

Enjoy,

Mark

Hello All,

I am delighted to recommend the CBS Local app to you as it is VoiceOver
accessible. The only bug I have found is that VoiceOver reads one of the
two menu buttons, located in the upper right corner of the display, as,
"headphones, button". So, when you hear VoiceOver say, "headphones,
button," go ahead and activate this button in order to display the various
affiliate live streaming options in your area. The primary menu button,
located in the upper left corner of the display, is labeled correctly.

The primary purpose of this app is to keep you up-to-date via the local
CBS

television and radio affiliates in your area.

Be aware that you may change the local area at any time.

This is a free app, the description and link to which I will paste in

voice dream reader, books deleted out of the blue

2016-06-27 Thread Regina Alvarado
I had a very strange thing
happen with my VDR. I had about 20 books on my home page. I had synch on.
Yesterday I went to open a new book. A msg came up telling me the book could
not be saved as it was in the cloud. I checked all my books. Every one said the
same thing. I then asked VDR to synch. Only about 5 books are now on both
devices along with a new book I put on from BKS. I cannot figure out where my
books went. I could never figure out the names of the books I downloaded. Do I
have a setting incorrect? Where could my books have gone if I didn't delete
them. What is the fix library (I think it is called)? Could that be a
possibility to salvage my list?

Is this not possible? What am I missing?

Hi Alan,

Just to add to Don’s explanation, a Connect is quite a nice little unit to have
especially if you have an existing stereo to which you want to add Sonos
connectivity/features. Not only does the Connect have an RCA analogue input
(great for connecting an Airport Express to), but it also has an RCA analogue
output, an optical Toslink output and a Digital Coax output which are great to
connect to an existing receiver/amplifier. In fact, you could even connect a
receiver/amplifier via one of the digital methods and a set of powered speakers
to the RCA outputs and place them elsewhere and this way play music/audio in
two different places with the same Connect.

If you have any further questions feel free to write me off-list and if you
explain to me your layout and what you want to achieve I can probably give you
some reasonably good recommendations.

Take care,

Hi Alan.

If you want to play anything that is not a sonos service heere are your options.

1. you can play any audio files stored on your computer or NAS with sonos no
problem.

2. If you want an external player such as a CD player, or vcr to play through
sonos this can be done by purchasing the play5 speakers or a sonos connect.

If you want to play any content on your iPhone such as a service that sonos
doesn't yet support or the bard mobile app you can do this if you purchase an
airport express, connect it to the play5 or sonos connect so in short there is
nothing you can't do with a sonos system.

Speaking as a happy sonos owner.

Re: Question about Sonos App and voiceover

2016-06-27 Thread Robin Frost
Hi,
Well umm I thought it was too but I’m telling you somehow that thing got turned
on in the app’s settings area and when it was so mayhem ensued. It wasn’t every
time out but more times than not the minute I’d enter the app VoiceOver would
plummet to a lower volume. It really did drive me crazy until I asked their
twitter feed. That’s what they told me indicating that this was expected
behavior. Sure wish someone would have warned me so I’d have expected it
(smiles).
Now that I turned that setting off all is well again.

Hi,

I’ve an update to my own post which sounds kind of silly now that I write it.
But after some poking around in settings I’ve found the cause for my issue and
it’s been confirmed by Sonos Support. VoiceOver and in fact all iOS volume was
being controlled by the Sonos app when hardware volume setting was turned to on
in the sonos app settings area. This is expected behavior according to them.

Perhaps others had figured this out long before me and if you did I laud you as
it took me a day’s worth of thinking I was going mad before the cause and
effect relationship of this setting dawned on me.

For now I’ve disabled it as I’d rather have VoiceOver at a consistent volume
than the advantage of this ability to control volume.

I hope this saves someone else a bit of confusion (smiles).

Subject: Question about Sonos App and voiceover

Hi,

I was just curious if anyone has observed something I’m experiencing here. I’m
running version 6.3.1 of the app on an iPhone 6SPlus running version 9.3.2.
I’m noticing that when I enter the app from the app switcher that voiceover
volume lowers markedly. I can’t establish a pattern to when it does or does not
happen. It is rather annoying.

I thought perhaps it might have been brought on by the app’s ability to access
the microphone in conjunction with TruePlay so I disabled it but the problem
still persists.

I was just wondering if anyone else had observed this or had any thoughts on
what might cause this.

Thanks in advance.

RE: General Sonos Question

2016-06-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Take care,
Sieghard

Re: Netflix Audio Description

2016-06-27 Thread Kimber Gardner
I believe you'll find it under the language option within the Netflix
app. Double tap on language (at the top of the screen once the show
begins to play). Now flick down through the available options. One of
them is for enabling audio descriptions. Incidentally, you will only
see the audio description option for programs that offer it.

I hope this helps/.

Netflix Audio Description

2016-06-27 Thread Brandon Olivares
I’ve heard that Netflix has audio description for certain shows. I’m trying to
play a show that should have audio description (it’s called “Psych”), but can’t
figure out how to enable it. Does anyone have an idea of how to do this on the
iPhone?

Voice dream reader -- not seeing my purchased voices on my new iPad

2016-06-27 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

I installed VDR on my new iPad and everything seemed to go fine. But
now I don't know how to get the voice I have already purchased (on the
iPhone) to show up on the new device.

Is this not possible? What am I missing?

Thanks,
Kimber

Re: dropvox recorder

2016-06-27 Thread Monica Jones
The problem I find with DropVox is that it is like most of them and won't
let you record with the screen locked. Then there's the problem of the phone
ringing, enterrupting the recording. Maybe the background recording you
suggested would help with this. I wanted to report a church service and
found I couldn't lock the screen, which I mentioned earlier. I did turn Do
Not Disturb to calls from no one which helped with the phone problem. But,
lol, if I forget to do this, it is a problem.

Subject: dropvox recorder

I'm really loving this app for those of you who have dropbox and are
looking for a very simple way to record and upload to dropbox. It's very
basic with very few options which I love. I have the high quality
setting turned on and the files are mp3 and not all that big. It doesn't
save these files to your phone, just uploads them directly to dropbox
for later retrieval. the only thing I wish it did was give you the
option to hold on to your files and not upload until your phone reaches
a wifi connection. I have T-mobile, so data isn't an issue for me. But
it could be a problem for those who have limited data. This app is
awesome for times when you need to quickly record something on the fly
and don't have time to save the file or rename it. If you're going to
record past your screen turning off, you'll need to enable background
recording so it wont stop recording. The app is only $1.99 which isn't
much in my opinion for all that it does. Also works nice with voiceover.

The primary purpose of this app is to keep you up-to-date via the local CBS
television and radio affiliates in your area.

Be aware that you may change the local area at any time.

This is a free app, the description and link to which I will paste in below
my signature.

Enjoy,

Re: Did They Fix iTunes For Windows?

2016-06-27 Thread englishrider91
Uh, no, it isn't. I have an updated iTunes lately for that very reason. That
it's horrible, I mean. It was already bad enough when 12 first came out, and
they changed how things were done from before. If you call back and try to talk
to them again, and get the same response, I'd insist on speaking to a higher
up. Did you call the excess ability number, or the main Apple number? I can't
remember if you specified which one you called in your email.

Thanks,

Re: iPhone 5SE

2016-06-27 Thread englishrider91
Oh, I didn't know that. Does the call then get forwarded to voicemail right
then and there, after you press the lock button a second time? I like pressing
it once, because the phone call is completed as normal, and not automatically
sent to voicemail, so whoever is calling you doesn't know that you're ignoring
it. If you automatically send a call to voicemail, without letting it ring for
the other person the specified number of times set by the phone, the person is
going to know right away that they're being ignored.

Thanks,
Ari

Re: Small update on the BotVac app accessibility.

2016-06-27 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone

Notifications With Certain Apps

2016-06-27 Thread Monica Jones
Good morning y’all,

I have certain apps that aren’t giving me push notifications but they once did.
I have notifications turned on in the app and in notifications. I have
notifications set for the lock screen as well. Any suggestions are appreciated.
I don’t get them in DiceWorld, Newsify, or Overcast Podcast player. Thanks
bunches.

Make sure you are not taking away your phone from your ear before
pressing power button to hangup the call. If you want to reject the
incoming ring, press power button twice. No special settings are to be
done, to accomplish this task in SE. Though this doesn't work in 6
searies.

RE: Small update on the BotVac app accessibility.

2016-06-27 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hi guys, I have been following this thread religiously because this gaget
sounds fantastic and for the most part accessible. However I can't afford this
right now but I'm hoping this will change sometime in the future, so I have
some questions.
My house is laminate flooring, tiles in the bathroom, carpet in the bedroom,
and plastic vinil in the kitchen. Does this vacume distinguish between the
different types of serfaces and vacume accordingly? Also the bathroom, kitchen,
and bedroom have a small barrier in the doorways. I'm not sure how to explain
this but there is a wide strip, like a small step separating the rooms from the
laminate flooring in the livingroom dining room, can the vacume pass through
these small barriers, can it somehow step over these seperaters? Also when I
take it up stairs to another lecvel, will it know to vacume the whole level
without falling down the stairs?
Thanks for any help and feedback provided in advanced.

Zoe

Hi Jeramy and all interested in the BotVac app accessibility!

My Bot just did the ground floor and returned itself to the dock. I heard
the tune and got the message "I am done cleaning", then, I heard, what I now
know to be an error sound, a sort of "bling blong" repeated a few times at a
minute's interval. I have had this before and when it occurs at the end of a
successful cycle of cleaning, I can be fairly sure it means the bin needs
emptying . But, this time, upon seeing the error showing up in the app, I
tapped on "more info" and, as Jeramy said, it took me straight to the
appropriate webpage and he error showed up, as I had expected, "bin full' or
some such. This is great! This little discovery has just extended accessibility
of the app/BotVac enormously!! Now, just the setting up of the Wifi and the
battery status and we are fully there!!

Sandy.

hi I tried using the power button when on A call to hang it up.
And it didn't do anything.
Even when I quickly pressed it or held it for A while and then let off
of it.
So maybe it doesn't work for me or i wasn't doing exactly so what is the
correct to make this work?

Or what do you have to set in the phone to make this work?

Re: Did They Fix iTunes For Windows?

2016-06-27 Thread Richard Turner

i only know about iTunes 12.4.1.
It is beyond awful with a screen reader.
I called Apple Accessibility and a man named Kelly told me that it is up to the
third party screen reader manufacturers to fix accessibility.
I called them because I was trying to gift an app and that part of iTunes is
now completely inaccessible. Kelly said it was a known problem and that the
screen reader manufacturers had to fix it.
I pointed out that it worked fine before Apple updated iTunes. But he insisted
it is up to the other companies to fix it.

Re: Small update on the BotVac app accessibility.

2016-06-27 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
Hi Jeramy,

Rule 1 with the BotVac, never use fluids! Never use the Vac on wet floors
or carpets. So, no cleaning fluid etc. Spot clean is for hoovering a defined
space. There are 2 settings of size for spot clean. 1. Approx 6 foot x 6 foot.
2. Approx 13 x 13 foot. The Bot will clean a square of floor, directly in front
of it and, you can choose to do this once or have it do the area twice for a
more intense clean. I think you could use it for a whole room, depending on the
size of your room, or, as in my case, I might like to give a carpet an extra
doing. For example, I have a couple of rugs, about 6 x 8 feet, if I put the Bot
just central in front of one edge, and press the left, the spot clean, button,
if I have set it to the smaller option, it should, pretty much do the whole rug
and then finish. I might not want to do the whole house, as with the "clean the
house" option. I have some rooms that are smaller than the 13 x 13 size and I
might just want to do that room, I could use the spot clean for that. If I
wanted to do a large room, I could set the bot down at one end of the room, let
it do the larger spot clean and then move it to the other end, thus, doing the
room in two parts.

As for carpeting: I find the Bot to be very effective on carpets. Because
most of my floors are hard, I prefer to use the squeegee brush, but this does
do carpets well too! But to get a bit deaper, I change the brush to the one
with bristles, every now and again. This, I think, is down to one's own
situation/house/pets etc. But one thing is for sure, liquids of any kind,
accidental or intentional, such as cleaning fluids or water, must not be
present while the Bot is working.

All the processing of scanned material is done within your IOS device. I
can not answer the question about braille.

Subject: KNFB Reader

   Hi everyone!
I would like to ask you some questions about KNFB Reader. I know that this
topic has been discussed many times here. I want to know if KNFB needs
internet when a text has to be scanned (if it needs some data from a server
etc.). Can you read the scanned texts with a braille display immediately
after the scanning?
I want to thank you for your help. You can share your experience with the
app with me.

  Best regards, Olya

Did They Fix iTunes For Windows?

2016-06-27 Thread Arnold Schmidt
The latest version of iTunes that I can run on my current computer is 12.1.3,
otherwise, I would know the following. How is iTunes 12.4.3? The two areas
that needed fixing were transferring files, and putting old versions of apps
onto my phone from my hard drive if the new version was not as accessible.
Comment on other areas of iTunes for windows if you wish. Thanks for any
information.
