Re: looking for input on any of the amazon devices

2017-08-06 Thread terrie arnold
Well I have the Amazon Alexa and then had it for about a month and it is
absolutely wonderful, you can search for a Recipes any kind of thing you think
you can want to cook you can even tell you how to cook a hotdog really I am so
serious. Also I will set timers various timers not just one.
It will tell you the weather, and you can call people and I repeat you can call
people that have an Amazon.are any Amazon echo they both work the same so you
can make clear phone calls through device as long as they're in your database
on your phone. So just a wonderful wonderful thing plus plays music anything
you can think of I mean literally anything you can think of from listen to
music from the 20s and 30s I have audible books it can read books through your
device if you have those downloaded and can't think of the Amazon tablet right
the top of my head but it'll read the books if you have books on there it will
read those books as well so a very smart little device to having your home and
you can also hook up with the devices to turn your lights on to but there are
more devices coming out that will work through this last such as crockpots,
coffee makers,, stats, Doraville's, locks for your door to open your door so
such a wonderful little device is it is something I really didn't think I would
use very much but I'm finding out that I use it quite a bit and you can listen
to various baseball Games so there's so much on this device that I don't even
know about and I'm learning new things every day, oh and yes there are games,
you can play Jeopardy and word jams and the hangman your sis and List and List
things that are available on this thing to entertain yourself so they're 35
bucks at Best Buy I think they are as much as 50 bucks for the echo..
But if you were an Amazon prime member you can get the Amazon Alexa which has
the large speaker and it and you can spread the payments out into five payments
which makes it really more affordable so Amazon prime is a nice thing to have
so much my Amazon Alexa so I can say all the other fun to store did the other
fun thing they have is a skill that is called guard dog and you can say guard
dog and this big ferocious dog will start barking at various random times so it
sounds like you have a very large dog in your area so thought it was kind of
cool so cold you can download the Amazon Alexa app onto your phone and use and
use it to call your friends that have echo dots or have the Amazon Alexa app on
their phone as well so there are several ways to use this

My thoughts for today

Double tap on find xxx, where xxx is the word you searched for and see if that

I thought it would take you right to the first occurance.
Perhaps the item chooser approach that Anna mentioned is a better one.

 Richard,

Thanks for these detailed instructions on how to find text on a Safari web
page. I followed your instructions and after clearing the text in the search
bar and typing the text I wanted to search for, I single finger swiped right
through a list of web pages until I reached a heading that said On this page 9
matches. Unfortunately, double tapping on that heading didn't take me to those
matched items. I could not figure out how to get to the matches and I'm hoping
someone can further direct me.

Thanks for the help.

Do not double tap the search button, but instead flick right with one finger,
you will find an option to find on page, or it may do it automatically. Either

Which voice are you using?
I gather you are actually talking about the way VoiceOver says the word chess,
not Siri.
Tom says Chess just fine.
To change VO’s pronunciation of a word you can go into the VoiceOver settings,
Speech, pronunciation and enter the word and then enter the fonetic spelling
you want to get it to pronounce it correctly.

The original came in quite a long time ago, but is relevant to my questian.
The question was re the pronunciation of names, but I assume that the same
process would apply to rectifying any mispronunciation?
Not that the fate of the world is, entirely, dependent on it, but v O's
pronunciation of the game chess is chiss and I would like to reeducate her.!
She pronounces less as she should so, why she makes an exception when it comes
to chess, I cannot understand.

This is what I found on the web:

How to Get Siri to Say Your Name Correctly
By Sarah Kingsbury updated on 07/07/2016

Siri isn’t always so great at pronouncing names correctly. The AI is great for
calling or sending messages, but it’s incredibly frustrating when you tell Siri
to call Jaqueline and the AI searches the web for Violins. Luckily, you can
teach Siri to pronounces your name or any name. Part of the personal
assistant's capabilities is being able to learn. Whether it’s your name or a
friends, you can correct Siri’s pronunciation in a few short steps. Here’s how
to get Siri to say your name correctly.

To teach Siri how to say a name correctly,

hold the home button to activate Siri and then say, "That's not how

Siri will then ask you how to pronounce the contact's first name. Say the name
correctly.

Siri will offer you two or three pronunciation options to choose from. Select
the one that is the correct pronunciation.

If none of the options are close enough, tap Tell Siri Again to repeat the
process until you get a pronunciation you like.

Siri will then repeat the process for the contact's last name as well. Having
corrected Siri’s pronunciation, the AI should be able to say your name, or a
friend's name, correctly now.

Hi Mr. Ed,

Check this out:

From: Rita Howells via iDevices
Hello,
I find that it is a good practice to close all tabs in Safari, when I am
ready to exit.
Another contributor to the iDevices list serve: gave these instructions.
Thank you Brian.
if you want to clear all tabs on your iPhone in safari use the Pages button
in the bottom right corner. You can then double tap and hold the done button
and you will get an option for closing all open tabs. if you want to restore
one of the recently closed tabs then you can double tap and hold the new tab
button, and you will get a list of recently closed tabs and just double tap
the one you want to open again. If you want to close each tab individually
then after using The Pages button start swiping left until you hear the
individual pages that are open. Swipe up on each one that you want to close
and double tap on the clothes option. you can then double tap the done
button.

Any ideas where I can look for missing Voice Memos files?

2017-08-06 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

I was saving some files in the native Voice Memos app, but when I went to look
for them in the app today I was surprised to find there were no files.

I have an iCloud backup and an iTunes backup on my PC.

Is there any way to look for these files on either of these resources? To my
understanding, I'd need to do an erase all and restore from one of these, but
before I do that, I'd like to make sure there is no other way to try to find
these files.

Any help will be most appreciated. Keith

RE: loadstone GPS

2017-08-06 Thread Jim Ruby
I have not used loadstone since I had my nokia phone a long time a go. I’d say
for me No as there are quite a few gps apps out there now for ios that work
very well. I however would love to get my pois off of my database and add them
in to the other gps apps I use now, but for me it is not worth $8.00 to do this.

Just my own opinion and I’m not saying the app is not worth $8.00, it is just
for me I don’t have a use for the app other then to get my old pois.

Emailing photos from my camera roll

2017-08-06 Thread Donald L. Roberts
I have several photos in my camera roll which I need to email. If I
have a choice, I would rather dump them into my Dropbox and then email
with my windows 10 computer. If this is possible, please tell me how to
do it as I have done almost nothing with photos in the past. I did make
sure that any pictures I do not wish to send have been deleted.

If I must attach the photos to an email message rather than dumping them
into Dropbox, please tell me step by step how to do so. I have sent
emails from my iPhone 6 running IOS 10.3.3; just didn't have to mess
with photos. And if I didn't ask previously, which is easier, sending
directly from the iPhone, or dumping initially into Dropbox.

Thanks.

Re: Any ideas where I can look for missing Voice Memos files?

2017-08-06 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Keith,

Do you sync your phone with your computer at least occasionally? If so, in the
music section of the dialog that comes up when you attach your phone, do you
have it set to sync voice memos? If you do, there should be a Voice Memos
folder in your iTunes library that has all of them. I hope so.

Best,
Anna

RE: Emailing photos from my camera roll

2017-08-06 Thread R Van Lant
If you pull up the camera roll and double top on the photo you want to open it,
a button should appear at the bottom for Share. I typically find it really
easy to email them,. I have not tried moving them to Drop Box. Once the share
menu opens, you can simply select mail and it will open a new email message
with the picture attached. Then, all you are doing is addressing the email as
you normally would and kitting send. Of course, you can add a subject and text
to your message, but that’s not necessary. You will surely also get a pop-up
telling you the that picture size is to large and you’ll have the option of
what size picture to send. If I know I want to give someone a higher
resolution photo, I’ll pick large, but if I’m just sending a picture for
someone to see something, I will select small.

Hope this helps.
