Re: What are you looking for this Black Friday? Did you know you can get 30% off new Sonos speakers if you have old ones to trade up?

2019-11-27 Thread Robin Frost
Hi,
I’d read rumors earlier in the year that they might bring out a smaller “core
sub” as it was referred to and if they did that I’d so be first in line to do
it. I thought about the now seemingly older sub but hesitate due to its hefty
weight and the worry that I’ll buy one and then as if by magic a new updated
one will appear. That’d so be my luck. But I love my 2nd gen Play:5’s my Sonos
Ones and my beam that’s for sure.
Thanks to all whose tireless accessibility advocacy has made the products and
accompanying apps as excellent as they are.
Take good care.

Subject: What are you looking for this Black Friday? Did you know you can get
30% off new Sonos speakers if you have old ones to trade up?

Hi,

Sonos has announced their Black Friday deals, this year you can save 20% on
new Sonos speakers.

But if you already own some older Sonos gear like a Connect, Connect Amp or an
older Play 1 first generation, you can even get a better deal.

Sonos offers a 30% discount onew Sonos speakers if you use the Sonos Trade-Up
program.

I bought my first Sonos gear in 2009 and own 3 of the old Connect players which
are designed to connect to existing stereo systems or powered speakers, I also
have 3 connect Amp players which are stand-alone amplifiers which connect to
existing bookshelf, tower or built-in wall or ceiling speakers and I have the
original Play 5 speaker from 2011 which was called the S5 when it came out.

The 3 Connect Amp speakers I am using now at my retail store where each Amp
drives a set of speakers, one for the main floor, one for the upstairs and one
is hooked up to a pair of exterior speakers.

I decided the 30% off was too good of an offer and I just traded in my old Play
5 for a Play 5 Gen 2 and one of my Connects for the new Sonos Move which sits
on a charging base, but if you want to bring it somewhere you can simply pick
it up and it then runs for up to 10 hours on the built-in rechargeable battery.
Furthermore, the move is part of your Sonos system when at home and in reach of
your WiFi, but you can also bring it with you anywhere and simply push a button
on the back to switch it to Bluetooth mode and then use it as a regular
Bluetooth speaker. Of course if you have 2 of them you can set them up as a
stereo pair. Here is the short description from Sonos:

Get brilliant sound anywhere with the weatherproof and drop-resistant Move.

Control with your voice, the Sonos app, and Apple AirPlay 2 at home, and stream
via Bluetooth when WiFi isn't available.

Great sound in the great outdoors

Experience surprisingly deep bass, a wide soundscape, and automatic Trueplay™
tuning that perfectly balances the sound for where you are and what you're
listening to.

Voice control

The Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa are built right in so on WiFi you can
play music, check news, set alarms, get your questions answered, and more,
completely hands free.

WiFi at home, Bluetooth everywhere else

Stream over WiFi and connect Move to the rest of your Sonos system at home.
Switch to Bluetooth when you're away and offline.

Ultra durable

Don't worry about accidental drops or bumps. Move's components are protected by
a hardwearing, shock-resistant case.

Grab and go

Move fits seamlessly into the included charging base and features an ergonomic
handle, making it easy to pick up and carry.

Battery that lasts

Enjoy up to 10 hours of continuous play time and deep, powerful sound. Easily
recharge Move on the included base, or a compatible USB-C charger.

Weather resistant

With an IP56 rating, Move stands up to humidity, rain, snow, dust, salt spray,
UV rays, and extreme heat and cold.

Simple recharging

No need to plug Move in. Set the speaker on the included indoor charging base
for quick power while you listen, and get power wherever you need it with an
additional charging base.

As for the trade up program, you can do it through the website, simply log in,
select the speaker you want to trade up/recycle and then confirm in the Sonos
app, then next time you log in and place an order your 30% discount is there
for you to use for anything Sonos sells including any of their packages like a
set of Play 5 Gen 2 speakers, a surround sound set up etc.

You could also take your old Sonos speaker which qualifies for the program to
any Sonos retailer like Best Buy and they can do it for you and this way if you
had a Best Buy gift card you could get the 30% discount as well as use your
gift card to pay for the discounted speaker. I just ordered a $500 Best Buy
gift card with Aeroplan points and plan to get a second Play 5 so I can set
them up as a stereo pair mounted to the wall in our bedroom.

As for my retail business, I am very tempted to trade in my 3 Connect Amp
speakers for the new Sonos Amp and the Sonance architectural speakers which

what a stereo pair of Play 5 Gen 2 produces which is pretty darn good.

This is for the most part our Black Friday plan for this year although we are
also looking at some new window coverings, but I'll send another message with
appropriate subject line.
The trade up program is of course not limited to Black Friday. It was announced
a few weeks ago, but I am not sure if it is a limited time offer or something
Sonos will continue to offer indefinitely. It's certainly a great way to
upgrade your hardware to the newer products which all support Airplay 2 like
the new Sonos One SL

Waterlock gets turned on in two ways:
1. You go to control centre on the watch, swipe to waterlock and double tap it
2. You select pool or open water swim as your workout, this will turn on
waterlock automatically.

Thanks very much, this did the trick so I was able to go to page one and end

I have not heard it even mentioned anywhere on the watch and had no idea it
existed. Very frustrating.

Did you accidently enable water lock?
If so turn the digital crown up (away from you if the watch is on your left
wrist) and do so a bunch of full turns, not just one half turn or so.

Hi, I am also new with the watch. However, I do use the workout app. I think
you have to be on page one in the app to find the “end” button. When you are in
the workout session swipe right to the end of the page where it will say page 2
of three or page three of three. Now swipe up or down until it says page one of
three. I think the end button is between new and pause near the top. Good luck,

I just recently got the watch and today I went into the Workout app, chose the
equipment I was using and started the session. Now no matter what I try I can’t
get it stopped nor can I close the app? I have even tried shutting the watch
down but when I turn it back on, the app is still going. How in the world do I
get it to stop? And it keeps saying to turn the digital crown to unlock but
when I do that, nothing happens. I am totally stumped.

Issue with making phone calls via Siri voice command

2019-11-27 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
Hello list,

So for the past few days, I’ve been experiencing an odd issue on my iPhone
SE running iOS 13.2.3 . For some reason, I am unable to initiate phone calls
via Siri. Be it with a direct command to dial XXX or call so and so. Same
goes if I want to tell Siri to make a call via Google Voice with the new
Siri command integration Google recently introduced. It did work fine up
until this problem.

I’ve changed nothing in my Siri permissions or any other settings and Siri
otherwise works perfectly fine. Dictation, asking questions, etc. Also, I
can make calls if I manually punch in the number. It’s just when I try
telling Siri to make a call, I’ll get this weird hanging behavior to please
wait… Just a minute until it times out and am told that sorry, can’t
establish a connection. I have tried restarting the phone too, but no dice.
Once or twice, I was able to make a call, but that was the rare exception.

This phone’s on Ting which is a GSM/CDMA MVNO. The phone itself is an
unlocked GSM model.

Anyone else come across this behavior? Any ideas on a solution?

Thanks,

Cristóbal

Yeah, I think I’ve had it once or twice before, but never for a prolonged
period of time like this.

I want to say that I also had it for a bit on my XR the same day so figured it
was some sort of weird server issue, but the XR thing went away and now I’m on
my fourth day with this problem on my SE. Siri just says “just a sec” “One more
moment please” then I get the cannot establish a connection thing. Otherwise,
the phone works fine.

So strange.

I’ve seen that problem from time to time, but usually, it comes in conjunction

problem, even though I had a perfectly good connection to the Internet. Never
seen this in isolation.

iPhone SE running iOS 13.2.3 . For some reason, I am unable to initiate phone
calls via Siri. Be it with a direct command to dial XXX or call so and so. Same
goes if I want to tell Siri to make a call via Google Voice with the new Siri
command integration Google recently introduced. It did work fine up until this
problem.

I’ve changed nothing in my Siri permissions or any other settings and
Siri otherwise works perfectly fine. Dictation, asking questions, etc. Also, I
can make calls if I manually punch in the number. It’s just when I try telling
Siri to make a call, I’ll get this weird hanging behavior to please wait… Just
a minute until it times out and am told that sorry, can’t establish a
connection. I have tried restarting the phone too, but no dice. Once or twice,
I was able to make a call, but that was the rare exception.

This phone’s on Ting which is a GSM/CDMA MVNO. The phone itself is an
unlocked GSM model.

Anyone else come across this behavior? Any ideas on a solution?

Thanks,

Cristóbal

I have a SE with GSM towers. The Consumer Cellular guy told me when I first got
my phone, you'll have a better experience, if you call from Contacts or dial
your own, since Siri won't always be able to make a connection. . I have found
him to be right on. I wish he knew what would be a good stock to buy

Re: Audible on Apple Watch

2019-11-27 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Marie,

I know there's been an update in the last week or so. Maybe you got it already.
I would say, set up the transfer, and leave your watch connected to power for a
long time. Maybe set up the transfer before you put your watch on the charger
at night.

Best,
Anna

Audible on Apple Watch

2019-11-27 Thread Marie
I hope I don’t drive everyone crazy with my watch questions. It is the series 3
and running 5.03 OS.
I opened the Audible app and tried to synch a book from my phone as instructed.
The first time, it got to 34%, stopped and started over. The second time it
made to to 54%. I have Spectrum internet which offers two connections. One is
2G and the other is 5G. The phone is connected to the 5G, but the watch does
not even find that one, so connected to the 2G. Could this be a problem? And is
it a shortcoming of the older watch?
One last question, for now, will the Series 3 work okay with the new OS/
Thanks,
Marie

Re: Issue with making phone calls via Siri voice command

2019-11-27 Thread Mary Otten
I’ve seen that problem from time to time, but usually, it comes in conjunction
with other Siri related issues. So I had the idea there was some kind of Siri
problem, even though I had a perfectly good connection to the Internet. Never
seen this in isolation.

RE: Issue with making phone calls via Siri voice command

2019-11-27 Thread sherrywells1157
I’ve had this happen a few times. Turning the phone off then back on has
always resolved the problem. If you’ve tried this already, then I’d suggest
calling Apple support.

Good luck,

Subject: Issue with making phone calls via Siri voice command

Hello list,

So for the past few days, I’ve been experiencing an odd issue on my iPhone SE
running iOS 13.2.3 . For some reason, I am unable to initiate phone calls via
Siri. Be it with a direct command to dial XXX or call so and so. Same goes if I
want to tell Siri to make a call via Google Voice with the new Siri command
integration Google recently introduced. It did work fine up until this problem.

I’ve changed nothing in my Siri permissions or any other settings and Siri
otherwise works perfectly fine. Dictation, asking questions, etc. Also, I can
make calls if I manually punch in the number. It’s just when I try telling Siri
to make a call, I’ll get this weird hanging behavior to please wait… Just a
minute until it times out and am told that sorry, can’t establish a
connection. I have tried restarting the phone too, but no dice. Once or twice,
I was able to make a call, but that was the rare exception.

This phone’s on Ting which is a GSM/CDMA MVNO. The phone itself is an unlocked
GSM model.

Anyone else come across this behavior? Any ideas on a solution?

Thanks,

Cristóbal

Re: Issue with making phone calls via Siri voice command

2019-11-27 Thread Richard Turner
Please, anyone with this issue write and/or call Apple Accessibility.
As a last resort, you might try turning off Siri, reboot the phone, Turn Siri
back on and see if that helps.
If it does, write those steps to Apple.
Something is truly screwed with Siri lately.
I chose to sensor myself in that last statement.

I’ve seen that problem from time to time, but usually, it comes in conjunction
with other Siri related issues. So I had the idea there was some kind of Siri
problem, even though I had a perfectly good connection to the Internet. Never
seen this in isolation.

Hello Fanus,

To turn off Apple Music options, open Settings and choose Music. then uncheck
Show Apple Music.

To change the volume of VoiceOver sounds, open Settings, choose Accessibility,
then VoiceOver, then Audio, then Sounds & Haptics. Turn off Match Speech
Volume. Then you'll find a slider for adjusting the volume of VoiceOver sounds.

Best,

Re: What are you looking for this Black Friday? Did you know you can get 30% off new Sonos speakers if you have old ones to trade up?

2019-11-27 Thread Robin Frost
Hi,
Ok buddy here’s the thing I’ll make you a deal you fly in and carry a sub up to
my second floor where my play:5’s live and we’ll be good (laughs). That’s why I
care about the weight it’d be one thing if I could just slide it across my
first floor but being a petite person carrying that thing upstairs might
potentially cause injury to me. I’m sure the bigger one sounds great but it is
interesting that they haven’t updated it with the touch controls and as one
commenter in the article I read indicated from a visual standpoint its finish
doesn’t match the newer speakers either.
I should also mention that I’ve some computer speakers that have a sub that’s
smaller than the dimensions of the Sonos Sub and it packs a mean bassy punch
when handling music so a smaller form factor might not necessarily compromise
sound quality too much and as you indicate it could complement the beam in
rooms with smaller footprints quite nicely. Ah well I’ll keep wishing.

I also wanted to mention if anyone’s interested in the beam that while it’s
$319 at Sonos official site I just saw it at Amazon in the USA for $299 not
sure how long it’d last but that is a nice price for it and thought some might
like to know.
And to make it iPhone related as sieghard mentioned the app is awesome and
again thanks to Sieghard Neal and others who advocated tirelessly over the
years for the fruits which we all now can enjoy. You are appreciated.

Hi Robin,

I saw articles from early in the year about Sonos maybe finally coming out with
a headset in 2020. I hadn’t heard about a new, more compact Sub although it
might fit in with their strategy where they may think people who bought the
Beam instead of the older Playbar wanting a smaller and aybe less expensive
Sub. However, as an owner of the current Sub I must say I would have to
hear/experience it to believe in it. The current Sonos Sub is stunning and I am
not so sure why people would want a smaller Sub, it’s already pretty compact,
but I grant you that it is heavy, but then who cares, you put it in a corner or
flat underneath something and that’s it.

For me a headset would be an absolute guarantied purchase, I have been waiting
for years and if it is as good as all the other stuff Sonos makes I’d have no
problem dropping $400 or $500 on it.

RE: Audible on Apple Watch

I have totally given up on listening to Audible on my Apple Watch. You can only
do so via a Bluetooth headset and I guess if you were the kind of person who
would want to listen while out for a run where you don’t want to bring your
iPhone I can understand how you would want to do so. But if you mostly have y
our iPhone nearby I simply see no reason to bother to wait forever until a book
transfers to the watch. If I could listen via the built-in speaker it would be
different because I could then listen at night at low volume with my wrist near
my head/ear without disturbing my wife and I’d like that instead of using a
headset in bed.

I know there's been an update in the last week or so. Maybe you got it already.
I would say, set up the transfer, and leave your watch connected to power for a

HI Anna,

No, I have an iPhone 8 and don’t even use the fingerprint identification.

Thanks anyway and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Debbie,

Does your phone have Face ID? If so, there's a setting which makes the phone
respond differently in some situations if you are looking at it than if you
aren't. You may have that setting on. In Accessibility Settings, there's an
Attention feature that determines whether this is the case.

Best,

Please, anyone with this issue write and/or call Apple Accessibility.
As a last resort, you might try turning off Siri, reboot the phone, Turn Siri
back on and see if that helps.
If it does, write those steps to Apple.
Something is truly screwed with Siri lately.
I chose to sensor myself in that last statement.

I’ve seen that problem from time to time, but usually, it comes in conjunction
with other Siri related issues. So I had the idea there was some kind of Siri
problem, even though I had a perfectly good connection to the Internet. Never
seen this in isolation.

   Hello list,

So for the past few days, I’ve been experiencing an odd issue on my iPhone
SE running iOS 13.2.3 . For some reason, I am unable to initiate phone calls
via Siri. Be it with a direct command to dial XXX or call so and so. Same goes
if I want to tell Siri to make a call via Google Voice with the new Siri
command integration Google recently introduced. It did work fine up until this
problem.

The phone itself is an
unlocked GSM model.

Anyone else come across this behavior? Any ideas on a solution?

   Thanks,

   Cristóbal

Hi Marie,

I know there's been an update in the last week or so. Maybe you got it already.
I would say, set up the transfer, and leave your watch connected to power for a
long time. Maybe set up the transfer before you put your watch on the charger
at night.

Best,
