I believe you have to have both.
But, see if you can set up a fingerprint without a Passcode.
I only need my passcode when I reboot or turn on the phone after it has been

I am sorry but there is no need to be afraid to talk about public betas as
Apple itselves is spreading them to the public just to prevent bugs.
Kayman is a betatester and maybe he is afraid to tell us but by telling us
ios13.5 is out, he admitted he is one but he does not commit a crime with
saying this. It is good that there are testers like Kayman on this list.

It is not general release software yet. The list rules do not allow
for discussion of beta software or operating systems. It angers Apple
greatly.

Apple Releases iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 With Exposure Notification API and Face
Mask Detection for Face ID

Submitted by AppleVis on 20 May, 2020
[Member of the AppleVis Editorial
Team]

Apple has today released iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 to the public, with Exposure
Notification API, faster Face ID unlocking when wearing a face mask, a new
option to automatically share selected health data with emergency services, and
more.

Bug Fixes for Blind and Low Vision Users in iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5

Our testing suggests that the following pre-existing accessibility bugs have
been resolved in iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5:
·Temporary banners now correctly disappear after a few
seconds.
·VoiceOver no longer wrongly reports some blocks of text as being
editable text
fields.
·Apple appears to have made some improvements to the bug which
prevented websites from inverting colors when both Dark Mode and Smart Invert
are
enabled.
Our testing suggests that there are still instances when websites will not
invert.

At the time of writing, we are unaware of any new bugs for blind or low vision
users in today's releases. However, as we always stress, we can make no claims
on the completeness or accuracy of our testing. We are only a small team, and
it is simply impossible for us to test all devices, configurations,
applications, and use cases. Accordingly, to help us ensure that the
information on this page is as complete and accurate as possible, please let us
know in the comments of any fixes; enhancements; or regressions that you find
in your own use of iOS 13.5 or iPadOS 13.5.

General Changes in iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5
·iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 include Apple and Google’s new Exposure
Notification API for COVID-19 contact tracing: Take a first look at Apple and
Google's ambitious new COVID-19 contact tracing technology that will send you a
notification if you were near someone who has the
coronavirus
·Face ID can now detect if you’re wearing a mask and skip directly to
the passcode screen if so: Apple wants to make Face ID work better with your
face mask. Here's what we
know
·You can now opt to have selected information from the Health app
automatically shared with emergency services when making an emergency call: New
iPhone iOS 13.5 update could save your life — here's
how
·There is a new setting in the FaceTime app that allows you to disable
the automatic enlargement of the active speaker's video window: Busy Group
FaceTime call? iOS 13.5 lets you turn off automatic face
zooming
·A new option is available to share songs, albums, and playlists to
Facebook and Instagram Stories: HOW TO Share Apple Music Songs in Your
Instagram & Facebook
Stories

According to
MacRumors,
iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 also patch two security vulnerabilities that affect
the Mail app on the ‌iPhone‌ and the ‌iPad‌:

One vulnerability allowed an attacker to remotely infect an iOS device by
sending emails that consume a significant amount of memory, while another
allowed remote code executions.

Release Notes

Apple's full release notes for iOS 13.5 are as follows:

iOS 13.5 speeds up access to the passcode field on devices with Face ID when
you are wearing a face mask and introduces the Exposure Notification API to
support COVID-19 contact tracing apps from public health authorities. This
update also introduces an option to control automatic prominence of video tiles
on Group FaceTime calls and includes bug fixes and other improvements.

Note that iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 were initially released as iOS 13.4.5 beta
and iPadOS 13.4.5 beta, but when the Exposure Notifications API was announced,
an SDK update was required, which meant that the version numbers also had to be
updated.

How to update

iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 are available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings >
General > Software Update) via Finder on a Mac with macOS Catalina, or via
iTunes on a PC or Mac with macOS Mojave or

Does the contact tracing kick in whether or not you enable it? For it to work I
suppose Bluetooth would have to be turned on. That uses up battery power, so I
don’t unless it’s absolutely necessary. So, I hope we’re not talking about
something that just takes over what I choose to do with my device.

One cool thing about Android that I wish could be brought to iOS by Apple. At

jailbreaking, while still technically possible, has gotten a lot harder as of

Apple Releases iOS 13.5 and iPadOS
13.5 With Exposure Notification API and Face Mask Detection
for Face ID
Submitted
by AppleVis on 20 May, 2020

Apple
has today released iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 to the public,
with Exposure Notification API, faster Face ID unlocking
when wearing a face mask, a new option to automatically
share selected health data with emergency services, and
more.
Bug
Fixes for Blind and Low Vision Users in iOS 13.5 and iPadOS
13.5
Our
testing suggests that the following pre-existing
accessibility bugs have been resolved in iOS 13.5 and iPadOS
13.5:

  ·
  Temporary
banners now correctly disappear after a few seconds.

  ·
  VoiceOver
no longer wrongly reports some blocks of text as being
editable text fields.

  ·
  Apple
appears to have made some improvements to the bug
which prevented websites from inverting colors when both
Dark Mode and Smart Invert are enabled. Our
testing suggests that there are still instances when
websites will not invert.
At
the time of writing, we are unaware of any new bugs for
blind or low vision users in today's releases. However, as
we always stress, we can make no claims on the completeness
or accuracy of our testing. We are only a small team, and it
is simply impossible for us to test all devices,
configurations, applications, and use cases. Accordingly, to
help us ensure that the information on this page is as
complete and accurate as possible, please let us know in the
comments of any fixes; enhancements; or regressions that you
find in your own use of iOS 13.5 or iPadOS 13.5.
General
Changes in iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5

  ·
  iOS
13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 include Apple and Google’s new Exposure
Notification API for COVID-19 contact tracing: Take a
first look at Apple and Google's ambitious new COVID-19
contact tracing technology that will send you a
notification if you were near someone who has the
coronavirus

  ·
  Face
ID can now detect if you’re wearing a mask and skip directly
to the passcode screen if so: Apple
wants to make Face ID work better with your face mask.
Here's what we know

  ·
  You
can now opt to have selected information from the Health app
automatically shared with emergency services when making an
emergency call: New
iPhone iOS 13.5 update could save your life — here's how

  ·
  There
is a new setting in the FaceTime app that allows you to
disable the automatic enlargement of the active speaker's
video window: Busy
Group FaceTime call? iOS 13.5 lets you turn off
automatic face zooming

  ·
  A
new option is available to share songs, albums, and
playlists to Facebook and Instagram Stories: HOW TO
Share Apple Music Songs in Your Instagram & Facebook
Stories
According
to MacRumors,
iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 also patch two security
vulnerabilities that affect the Mail app on the ‌iPhone‌
and the ‌iPad‌:
One
vulnerability allowed an attacker to remotely infect an
iOS device by sending emails that consume a significant
amount of memory, while another allowed remote code
  executions.
Release
Notes
Apple's
full release notes for iOS 13.5 are as follows:
iOS
13.5 speeds up access to the passcode field on devices
with Face ID when you are wearing a face mask and
introduces the Exposure Notification API to support
  COVID-19 contact tracing

available soon!

I have taken on the project of making Michael's book available with DAISY
markings so you can listen via your stream, or even your NLS player where you
can navigate to hundreds of headings. If you put one of the text formats into
the stream, for example, the only access to levels you have are screens and
paragraphs for serious navigation points. The one I am creating will give you
access to hundreds of locations which make logical sense in a 1300 page work.
The voice I'll initially use is TextWare James, initially, but there will be at
least 3 versions created with different voices, and I want some input on which
is your favorite voice. Remember this is a work which starts from nothing,
meaning that the blind user is taken from a state of unawareness to a complete
understanding of how IOS and the iPhone work, as far as anyone would want to go
because after you've read this book, any question you have is a matter of
re-reading that section again, truly.
All that can happen is a further development of the IOS and features which
could be added, but you will be not only ready for them, you'll be anxious to
put into practice what you know with complete assurance.
I have also taken the liberty of spelling words which are either author's names
or unusual names of apps he recommends and/or uses, have describe what the
heading levels are used primarily for, and recording it at a good enough level
to avoid artifacts because I am not concerned about bandwidth. When the book is
done, I'll make it available in either 3gp format, suitable for NLS and Victor
Stream playing and the smallest footprint in space on your storage device, or
48K *.mp3s which will be a good compromise for those who absolutely must use
*.,mp3 files with the DAISY markup included.
I shall announce when I am done, and where to get it.

Hence, the reason I close them fairly often to keep from having to flick up

Not Transferring, was Re: Transferring music from old to new phone?

2020-05-20 Thread Arnold Schmidt
Being that I now have ITunes Match, and that I stream Apple Music, can I
specificly not transfer the music from this phone to a new one when updating
phone to phone? Can I specify what I want transferred, or is it all or nothing?
If so, I almost could get by with a 64 gig model, although I will probably
still get the 128 model. Thanks for any information.

Michael Feir's book, Personal Power, The iOS Edition final DAISY available soon!

2020-05-20 Thread Curtis Delzer
I have taken on the project of making Michael's book available with
DAISY markings so you can listen via your stream, or even your NLS
player where you can navigate to hundreds of headings. If you put one of
the text formats into the stream, for example, the only access to levels
you have are screens and paragraphs for serious navigation points. The
one I am creating will give you access to hundreds of locations which
make logical sense in a 1300 page work. The voice I'll initially use is
TextWare James, initially, but there will be at least 3 versions created
with different voices, and I want some input on which is your favorite
voice. Remember this is a work which starts from nothing, meaning that
the blind user is taken from a state of unawareness to a complete
understanding of how IOS and the iPhone work, as far as anyone would
want to go because after you've read this book, any question you have is
a matter of re-reading that section again, truly.
All that can happen is a further development of the IOS and features
which could be added, but you will be not only ready for them, you'll be
anxious to put into practice what you know with complete assurance.
I have also taken the liberty of spelling words which are either
author's names or unusual names of apps he recommends and/or uses, have
describe what the heading levels are used primarily for, and recording
it at a good enough level to avoid artifacts because I am not concerned
about bandwidth. When the book is done, I'll make it available in either
3gp format, suitable for NLS and Victor Stream playing and the smallest
footprint in space on your storage device, or 48K *.mp3s which will be a
good compromise for those who absolutely must use *.,mp3 files with the
DAISY markup included.

I shall announce when I am done, and where to get it.

RE: New Simm cards

2020-05-20 Thread Richard Turner
He should ask his carrier.
Most of the time, yes, if the 6S used the Nano Sim card, it will work; but to
be sure, one should always check with your carrier.

Banking app in the UK

2020-05-20 Thread 'ChalmersAS' via VIPhone
Hi

Can anyone recommend any bank apps which are fully accessible with VO? I’m
familiar with Santander. Although the app would be my primary concern, it would
be helpful if the bank’s website was accessible also.

I really think it’s about time there was one accessible app you could manage
all your bank accounts through, whoever is the provider. They all manage to
talk to each other through ATMs.

If anyone tells me such a thing already exists, I shall sidle off pretending
not to be stupid.

Thanks in advance

Adrienne

The Barclays and the Halifax apps work well with VoiceOver and you can link
accounts with other banks from within the Barclays app. Barclays Bank ATM’s are
blind-friendly and have a 3.5 mm jack so it can talk you through everything.

Re: Closing All Open Apps

2020-05-20 Thread Arnold Schmidt
Over the years, I have heard both sides saying whether it is better to close
often, or not to bother. One argument supporting the not to have to close them
often is that after an app has not been used in a while, I am not sure how long
it takes, the word active no longer appears beside it in the app switcher. It
allegedly is just in the background, waiting to be made active again. But then
I think that apps that are actively looking for something, such as location,
take more power. So, I compromise, in that if I know I will use an app again,
say within an hour or so, I leave it active. Being that when it is opened, it
takes a second or two to activate itself, and that power has to come from
somewhere. I will close it if I know I won't use it again all that soon.

RE: Question about iTunes and iPhone

According to MS I had iTunes for windows instead of iTunes for desktop. Now
iTunes recognizes my iPhone and I could updated, but it doesn’t sync my

I’m confused about the info about iCloud, so I don’t know what to do in order

Hello,

Until recently I used iTunes to update my iPhone and synchronize my contacts. I
plugged the iPhone to my pc, and iTunes opened. Now, when I plug the iPhone to

What can I do? I hope someone can help, please.

In looking through the SE2020’s colors, I no longer see Space gray. What is its

Space Gray did in its time?

Re: COVID-19 exposure notification settings begin to go live for iOS users with new update – TechCrunch

2020-05-20 Thread Richard Turner
Covid 19 exposure tracking defaults to off, and this is the explanation that
shows up below the setting.
When enabled, iPhone can exchange random IDs with other devices using
Bluetooth. This enables an app to notify you if you may have been exposed to
COVID-19. Exposure Logging cannot access any data in, or add any data to, the
Health app.
So, it only notifies you if you have been close enough to someone who reported
that they have been exposed to the Covidvirus, to give you information so you
can take further steps to take care of yourself.

COVID-19 exposure notification settings begin to go live for iOS users with new

Apple has released iOS 13.5, which includes support for the Exposure
Notification
API
that it co-created with Google to support public health authorities in their
contact-tracing efforts to combat COVID-19. The API requires third-party apps
developed by public health authorities for use, and none have yet been
released, but iOS device users already have access to COVID-19 Exposure Logging
global settings.

As previewed in the beta release, you can access the Exposure Logging settings
under the Settings app, then navigate to the Privacy subsection. From there,
you can select the Health submenu and find the COVID-19 Exposure Logging
setting, which will be off be default. It can’t be turned on at all until you
actually get an authorized app to enable them, at which point you’ll receive a
pop-up asking you to authorize Exposure Notifications access. Once you do, you
can return here to toggle notifications off, and also manually delete your
device’s exposure log should you choose to opt out.

Apple and Google both have emphasized that they want as much user control and
visibility into the Exposure Notification API as possible. They’re using
randomized, temporary identifiers that are not centrally stored to do the
exposure notification, and are also forbidding the simultaneous use of
geolocation services and the Exposure Notification API within the same app.
This manual control is another step to ensure that users have full control over
what info they share to participate in the system, and when.

Contact tracing is a time-tested strategy for combating the spread of
infectious disease, and has traditionally worked by attempting to trace
potential exposure by interviewing infected individuals and learning as much as
possible about their movements during their infectious period. Modern connected
devices mean that we can potentially make this far more efficient and accurate,
but Google and Apple have worked with privacy experts to try to determine a way
to make this happen without exposing users to privacy risks. Matching also
happens locally on a user’s device, not in any centralized database.

2020-05-20 Thread Wayne Merritt
One item that was not mentioned in the AppleVis post, but was in the
comments. The bug of not being able to sue Braille Screen Input to
enter your passcode on the lock screen has been fixed. I noticed this
in one of the recent updates, either 13.4 or 13.4.1. I'm very glad
that was fixed, since I often find it easier to enter my code with BSI
than using the keypad. Not to say I can't use the keypad, but BSI
makes it so much faster.

Be well,

COVID-19 exposure notification settings begin to go live for iOS users with new update – TechCrunch

COVID-19 exposure notification settings begin to go live for iOS users with new
update
Darrell Etherington
@etherington/ 10:01 am PDT • May 20, 2020

Apple has released iOS 13.5, which includes support for the Exposure
Notification API that it co-created with Google to support public health
authorities in their contact-tracing efforts to combat COVID-19. The API
requires third-party apps developed by public health authorities for use, and
none have yet been released, but iOS device users already have access to
COVID-19 Exposure Logging global settings.

Apple and Google are currently working with public health authorities who are
building apps based on this API, and the companies also have noted that this is
a temporary measure that has been designed from the beginning to be disabled
once the threat of COVID-19 has passed.

Getting rid of unwanted news sources in the SmartNews app

2020-05-20 Thread Mary Otten
Hi folks,
I have been enjoying the SmartNews app. The one thing I would like to be able
to do would be to tell the app not to include certain sources. Some other news
apps, such as Google news, let you do that. I can’t find a way to do this with
SmartNews. Is there a way? I hope so.

Remember that this all started when they attempted to do an upgrade that
failed. Then when they attempted to reinstall the old one is when this stuff
started. I can log in to use the browse bard section the first try most of the

again. I hope they will fix it, I hope this having to log in again doesn't mean
they had too many times of an unauthorized person hacking the site and
downloading books. I assume you have written to

Apple Releases iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 With Exposure Notification API and Face

Submitted by AppleVis on 20 May, 2020

Apple has today released iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 to the public, with Exposure
Notification API, faster Face ID unlocking when wearing a face mask, a new
option to automatically share selected health data with emergency services, and
more.

Bug Fixes for Blind and Low Vision Users in iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5

Our testing suggests that the following pre-existing accessibility bugs have
been resolved in iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5:

*

Temporary banners now correctly disappear after a few seconds.

*

VoiceOver no longer wrongly reports some blocks of text as being editable text
fields.

* Apple appears to have made some improvements to

the bug which prevented websites from inverting colors when both Dark Mode and
Smart Invert are enabled. Our testing suggests that there are still instances
when websites will not invert.

* iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 include Apple and Google’s new Exposure
Notification API for COVID-19 contact tracing:

Take a first look at Apple and Google's ambitious new COVID-19 contact tracing
technology that will send you a notification if you were near someone who has
the coronavirus

* Face ID can now detect if you’re wearing a mask and skip directly to

Yes.
I wrote them.
They are working very hard to figure out what caused the issue.
The only way to effectively use the app is either to browse the recently added
books, previous downloads, or magazines.
You can also use BARD Express on your computer, find a book and add it to your
Wish List; and download it that way.
Believe me, they are busting their buns to get this fixed.
This is where patience is required, not to mention giving them credit for a
great service.
But something glitched, and it will take time for them to sort it out.

Apple Releases iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 With Exposure Notification API and Face

Stream playing and the smallest footprint in space on your storage device, or

they are in deed a phenomenally fabulous organization. I talked them up all the

grateful several weeks ago that they put out a notice saying that those were
problems they were having so that some of us didn't think the problem was at
our end. they also specified what you did about which types of materials were
still available. I have a list of things I was so hoping to be able to access.
I think I'll see if Learning Ally has them.

On that same site, you can download the BARD Express for Windows application

You only have to log in with BARD Express once.

auto speak not enabling on series 5 Apple Watch

2020-05-20 Thread 'Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.' via VIPhone
hi,
I have updated to the latest watchOS and iOS today.
I have an Apple Watch series 5 and an iPhone XS max.
Apps on my Apple Watch as complications, which previously I could enable auto
speak on, are not enabled after I double tap on enable auto speak. This happens
with every app on the watch face that I try.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Keith

Re: bard mobile

2020-05-20 Thread Marie
I am stumped over this, because I have used both the Bard mobile app on my
iPhone and the web site on my PC with absolutely no problems of any kind?
Is this only occurring in some places or...?
I just both today.

Remember that this all started when they attempted to do an upgrade that
failed. Then when they attempted to reinstall the old one is when this stuff
started. I can log in to use the browse bard section the first try most of the

Re: bard mobile

2020-05-20 Thread Arnold Schmidt
Everything works fine, except the bard website section, under the get books
tab. It use to stay logged in, but now I have to log in every time I want to
access this section. Luckily for me, I usually get logged in on the first
attempt, for others, it takes two or three attempts, still others can't log in
at all.

I discovered that converting it to ePub and opening it in Voice Dream Reader,
all the headings are there, and you can also use its fabulous search feature.
The only issue is that it ends up with a title of "unknown" and my last name.
I'm trying to sort out which file to edit to get the title and author correct
before offering it as well.

2020-05-20 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
The easy solution to this problem at least for now, is to not search
for books to download on the main bard website. It isn't that
difficult.

Re: bard mobile

2020-05-20 Thread Arnold Schmidt
Before giving up on bard, go to
nlsb...@loc.gov
via safari and log into that. You will be able to search for your books there
and add them to your wish list. Then, go back to your bard app and download
them using your wish list which should work. It should be logged in to be able
to do that. if indeed you can't even do this, then your problem is worse than
usual, and the people at
nlsdownl...@gmail.com
will want to know about your situation. The only reason I have heard of people
having the logging in problem is when they want to use the bard website
section, the other stuff should work.

I was able to convert Michael Fier's book into an ePub that will read in Voice

If you use the BARD Express program on a Windows computer, you will only have

And yes, in the app, everything works other than the BARD web site piece.

My experience was exactly the opposite. I found glass screen protectors so much
easier to line up and apply. The plastic screen protectors, since they're
flexible, are so much harder to line up and apply with out ending up with
bubbles, at least for me.

RE: new iPhone SE colors?

2020-05-20 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Yeah the colours are only black, white and red,

The red I’ve heard described as a blueish red,

Or what apple call product red, a dollar from each of the red phones goes to
aids research

Where did you order your phone from?
And remember folks it only takes a couple of days for the phone you want to
come in from apple if you purchase directly from them.
And they give 3 storage sizes and 3 colours.
Something the phone providers are not doing.

In looking through the SE2020’s colors, I no longer see Space gray. What is its

Space Gray did in its time?

Re: Logitech Keyboard k480 and iPhone

2020-05-20 Thread Richard Turner
Did you hold down the button to put it in pairing mode after turning it on?
It is the right-hand most of the two rectangular keys that are by themselves on
the just below the slot for an iPad on the top opposite of the dial.
You need to hold that in for several seconds while in the bluetooth settings.
The keyboard will show up toward the end of the bluetooth settings after the
words other devices.
Are you sure you have it powered on?

I'm trying to pair mine but I'm missing something.
I moved the dial to where I wanted it set and did the usual settings,

Am I missing a step?
