thermostat that works with Iphone

2020-06-03 Thread Kay Malmquist
Hi all,
It looks like one of our talking Thermostats has died at least on the AC
side of things. So now, if there is no fix to it, we'd like to get a good
Thermostat that works through WI-Fi or homekit or something like that. I
know there has been a lot of discussion but you know how it is when you know
that this will happen but sometime in the future. Yes, I somewhat paid
attention but not fully. Any recommendations as to what is best and what I
should invest in? It can even be used with the A lady but I really want to
be able to access it with my iPhone even from another place. Any ideas are
appreciated.

Re: question regarding sound vibration in new SE

2020-06-03 Thread Richard Turner
It could be under the Audio, Sounds and Haptics, where you find you can toggle
off individual settings.
Like, focused item.
Turn the haptic off there, and I think you will find that as you move around
the screen there is no vibration.
You may want to try a few others in there.

Subject: question regarding sound vibration in new SE

I’ve had my new SE for about a week. I upgraded from a 6S. Before I sent my
old phone back to Apple, I was doing a side by side comparison because of a
difference I noticed. I’m curious if those of you who are audiophiles or sound
engineer types can explain this to me. My sighted husband couldn’t detect
what I was talking about, but I’m guessing other blind people would pick up on
this as I did.

I’ve certainly heard some of you remark that sound quality is better on the SE.
I have really only used it for VoiceOver to date, and I wouldn’t claim to be
that astute about music sound quality anyway. Here’s what I noticed. I had
VoiceOver volume set as close to the same on both phones as possible I took
both out of their cases and set them on the table. I then ran my finger over
the screen showing my mail inbox on both phones, so that VoiceOver was reading
aloud at the same time. . I notice that the SE distinctly had a different feel
as the sound is projecting. I can really feel the vibration through my finger
as I’m moving around the screen, even if volume is set low, like 25%. It’s
like the sounds waves are causing a vibration,. It changes the sounds a bit
and actually kind of irritates my finger. I don’t feel any of that on the 6S.
Anyone else notice this? I’m not sure how it would feel on a 7 or 8, so maybe
most of you are used to this. I’m just really surprised at how different it
feels and I’m honestly a bit disappointed. I think I’m also feeling the
difference a bit on my eardrums, but the feel in my finger is a more pronounced
way to describe the difference.

On a related note, is the hole on the bottom left were the 3.5 headphone used
to plug in now also a speaker? I just noticed that, if I have VoiceOver
talking, my thumb clearly feels more vibration coming out of the right speaker
than the left. I’m not sure if it would be equal, so maybe this is expected
behavior.

I’ll go to an Apple store soon if this could be a problem, but didn’t want to
sound like a complete neurotic person without some validating of what I’m
observing.

2020-06-03 Thread Mike B.
Yes, I've noticed the phone bibration as well. At first I thought it might
be the haptic feature, but realized that wasn't it. It really doesn't
bother me, but I noticed that playing around with speaker settings didn't
change the vibration feel either. Don't know how to stop it, but maybe
someone will have an answer.

Re: question regarding sound vibration in new SE

2020-06-03 Thread Gordon
Yes, you will have sound coming out of the ear peace and the bottom
speaker when listening to music or other audio. The bottom speaker will
be located in the same place where the headphone jack would have been on
your six. You will feel a vibration especially when listening to music
on the smaller phones like the SE. The speakers are very powerful for
their size, but the phone is also smaller. You don't feel that vibration
on the larger phones like the 10R.

RE: question regarding phone holders

2020-06-03 Thread R Van Lant
A PopSocket or selfie ring may be something to try. Both of these items affix
to the bag of your phone case with a self-adhesive sticker. You could use them
like a handle or more like a way to stabilize the phone in your hand without
having to wrap your fingers all the way around the edges of the phone.

Subject: question regarding phone holders

Hello everyone,

I wasn't quite sure how to make the subject line. So it might be a bit
mis-leading. If so, I do apologize.

I have an iPhone XR. I love it.

However, it's a bit wide for my hand. So after about 20, to 30 minutes
of holding the phone in my hand, my hand starts to cramp. Or a few of my
fingers will fall asleep. It's rather anoying.

I have an ear piece. I do use it, when I remember to charge it. LOL!

But what I was wondering is, do they make something I could put on my
phone, to possibly make it more comfortable to hold?

I don't know if anything like this exists. But I just thought I would
reach out and see what people think. I don't have a thick case on my
phone. I can't think of the brand of the case at the moment. But I
purchased it at the T-Mobile store. It just goes on the back of my
phone. Then I have a screen protector on the front.

Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Right, but have you turned them off in the Notification settings?
If so, then it is time to complain to the app developer.

Hello it is not only happening with news apps. It can happen with any app that
sends notifications and it seems to be random for me. I don’t get these
notifications daily.
Thanks

Hi,

Sorry for the subject line vagueness but essentially ever since around iOS 13.3
or so I have a few apps mainly news ones which keep showing up in notification
center with a notification asking me if i want to keep receiving notifications.
When I attempt to interact upon them after VoiceOver verbalizes them I end up
invoking a notification from another app thus there seems to be no way to
dismiss them or say yes to them. It is driving me mad. Has anyone else
encountered this and is there any fix? I tried deleting and downloading the
apps again thinking if I answered the notifications prompt on set up that'd set
things right but so far no joy. Has anyone else encountered this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi listk,

I have an iPhone 2020 Se, and I have discovered that when I am listening to
music on youtube specifically, I keep getting interupted by notifications
(mostly email and slack).

Is there a way to turn off all notifications temporarily?

there was something mentioned about fixing Youtube, but I wasn't paying real

RE: question regarding phone holders

2020-06-03 Thread Tom Rash
If the issue is holding your phone, look for pop socket. I think that is what
it is called.
It's an adhesive knob that you attach to the middle of your iPhone case on the
back and has a protruding knob that you can snug between two fingers while
holding the pone. I don't have one, but my daughter does.

I have an iPhone XR. I love it.

However, it's a bit wide for my hand. So after about 20, to 30 minutes of
holding the phone in my hand, my hand starts to cramp. Or a few of my fingers
will fall asleep. It's rather anoying.

I have an ear piece. I do use it, when I remember to charge it. LOL!

But what I was wondering is, do they make something I could put on my phone, to
possibly make it more comfortable to hold?

I don't know if anything like this exists. But I just thought I would reach out
and see what people think. I don't have a thick case on my phone. I can't think
of the brand of the case at the moment. But I purchased it at the T-Mobile
store. It just goes on the back of my phone. Then I have a screen protector on
the front.

Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: Any thoughts, on the latest iOS update 13.5.1?

2020-06-03 Thread Alan Lemly
Dave,

I can't tell much difference between iOS 13.5 and 13.5.1. This includes the
continued inability of the native Mail app to maintain focus on an email when a
new email arrives or when drilling down on a message thread. I'm also finding
that the native Mail app has a delay when opening some emails that I'm not
experiencing with Outlook for iOS. I'll be using Outlook from now on unless
this is corrected or Outlook gets broken.

The ability to go backwards and forwards in youtube suddenly started working
again just as soon as I updated to 13.5.1

13.5.1 was just a security update.
I suspect that in one of YouTube's many updates they broke that feature and
then fixed it in the latest one.

I noticed that the forward and rewind in youtube is now working properly. I do
not know if it was a youtube bug or an iOS bug that caused the miss-function
but it is now fixed if you have iOS 13.5.1 and the latest youtube update.

Hello everyone,

Thank you,

Terri

Subject: copying files from laptop to Iphone six

I have a Daisy book I want to listen to via either Bard Mobile or else Dream
Reader. I decided to try using Itunes to copy it to the Iphone and saw that it
says that some apps can transfer data from the computer to the Iphone. It
listed Bard Mobile and Dream Reader as some of these apps.

While trying to figure out how to do this I noticed in the sendTo menu there
is an Iphone item. I clicked on that and it just sits forever saying it is
copying. Nothing appears to happen even after 2 or 3 hours.

Can anyone give me any ideas how to get this book in either Bard Mobile or
else Dream Reader on my six?

  Thanks

Re: question regarding phone holders

2020-06-03 Thread Robert Doc Wright

Are you still wanting to hold the phone up to your ear?

Subject: question regarding phone holders

Hello everyone,

I wasn't quite sure how to make the subject line. So it might be a bit
mis-leading. If so, I do apologize.

I have an iPhone XR. I love it.

However, it's a bit wide for my hand. So after about 20, to 30 minutes of
holding the phone in my hand, my hand starts to cramp.

It just goes on the back of my phone.
Then I have a screen protector on the front.

Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

But duck tape holds everything to everything.
Have you tried that ?
Lol.

Serious though,
What about the phone in your pocket and work from your ear pods headphones
using siri and only get the phone out when you need it?

Yes, Blind Square incorporates What Three Words, which you can toggle on or off.
It replaces the coordinates with three words like banana.milk.oil separated by
periods.
For anyone who wants to check it out but does not own Blind Square, the Blind
Square Events app is fully functional in 9 countries I
think and is free through November due to the Coronavirus.
Just search the app store for blind square events.
And, no, the stand alone app for What Three Words is not very useful by itself.

I believe Blind Square has that feature within it. I am not sure if the stand

longitude without using the numerical coordinates.

Anything further on a navigation app, only guessing "3 little words" was in

Anything more about this would be appreciated, I remember it impressed me last
year.

RobH, trying to work out how they did it.
