2022-01-04 Thread CHELA Robles
It’s kind of like a podcast except it’s not a podcast it’s where athletes and
musicians and activists talk about something and they walk as well it’s in the
fitness app under the heading time to walk some of them are 30 minutes long
some of them are 40 minutes long. It’s like walking and talking with a friend
or listening to somebody talk as you walk and of course they have their
favorite music as well.

Sent it makes walking fun for me at least. from my iPhone

RE: Face ID Revisited

2022-01-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If he or she is willing they can at least walk you through it. When Face Id
first was introduced, I think it was the iPhone X, I want to an Apple Store and
while their demo device didn't allow me to fully set it up, it had a sort of
simulation mode and I was able to get at least an idea and I certainly got a
good idea about the home screen and app switcher gestures which the Apple rep I
dealt with very patiently explained to me and let me practice them.

The reason I did that was because the Wal-Mart guy, where I bought my phone,
tried, and face ID never engaged. After I had my phone a few days, I decided to
see what I could do, and the mission was a success. I don't know why he
couldn't. It probably has something to do with me being totally blind, but,
exactly why, I have no idea.

Fazil, if it is any consolation, I am having the same struggle with face ID. I
have mastered the gestures to get to things without the home button, but face
ID continues to bedevil me. Interestingly, sometimes it will work with no
problem and I have no idea why, but mostly, I cannot unlock my phone using my
face. I have attention turned off and like you, I have successfully gone
through the training exercise multiple times, with and without sighted help,
which ends with a message that face ID was successfully set up, but for reasons
I can’t understand, mostly it does not work. I have only had the phone for 3
days and I know that other blind people out there with prosthetic eyes are
doing face ID successfully, so I refuse to give up, but I admit it is quite
frustrating since I love everything else about my 13 Pro. I have even reset the
face ID several times in different light and dark situations, with and without
sighted help, and even set up an alternate face, but still no joy. Also, it is
very hard to get the keypad to come up to enter the passcode. You will have to
learn the new gestures for getting to the home screen, control center, app
switcher, etc., but I did not find that very difficult after practice. I know
that I have to embrace change and except new things, and again, I like this
bigger phone and I love the battery life compared to my iPhone 8, so I don’t
want to go back to that phone again, but I hate using a passcode to
authenticate, so I am really hoping that I can get this worked out. I wish us
both patience and good luck. LOL.

Any more tips to unlock phone with face id is much appreciated.

Hi folks,

I know a few people on here are located in Canada and thought you might be
able to give me the correct info.

I'm trying to help a lady with a computer issue and she's based in Manitoba
Which I believe is in the Canadian central time zone,

Can someone tell me what that is in the way of + or minus from the date line?
Currently nz is +13 hours ahead and if I read This correctly that puts Manitoba
Somewhere in the area of 18 hours behind us,

So 6 pm nz would be midnight Manitoba the morning before!

Thanks for any help folks can give.

RE: Face ID Revisited

2022-01-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Fazil,

After your wake up your phone do the same as you would do when you want to go
back to your home screen. You mentioned you have learned how to do that and how
to bring up the app switcher, it's no different when you want to use Face Id.
First, press the side button and then touch the screen near the bottom and when
you hear the little tone swipe up until you feel a vibration, then look at the
phone or hold the phone so it faces you while you do it and it will unlock
right away.

Thanks much, Sieghard.
Is swipe up same as flick up that we do when select a month or a day? Or is it
like as we move icon to icon?
Or, is this like dragging/rubbing my fingertip on the screen-surface starting
from the bottom edge of the screen and drag it to the middle of it?
I am very sorry for being vague.
Thanks again.

Fazil, after you wake up your phone you first have to swipe up from the bottom
of the screen. If I hold my iPhone in front of my face with the screen locked
and then press the side button the lock screen comes up but nothing else
happens. As soon as I touch near the bottom of the phone and swipe up about
half way Face Id is activated and my phone unlocks instantly.

As for Chris's concern, I also have my bank apps, credit card apps and so on
installed on my phone, but they need separate verification and while you can
set most of such apps to also use Face Id, you don't have to. If you were
really concerned, why not at least allow the phone to be unlocked with Face Id,
but set up your important apps to require you to enter your password?
As for a thief holding the phone up to my face, first of all said thief has to
get a hold of my phone which if it is a grab and run means he won't have time
to unlock it by holding it up to my face. If you had Touch Id before, did you
also not use it? After all, a thief could just force you to put your finger on
the home button and for that matter, how much paid would you take before you
give him your passcode?

How do you unlock the phone with the passcode?
I, for instance, ask Siri to launch Messages for me and she wants me unlock the

Fázil, just keep trying my friend. I think you either have it tipped back too

attention turned off it’s just a matter of putting it just about 10 inches from
your face. I had a terrible time at the beginning. Sometimes I still have

just like those little blimps on the bottom and the top. It takes time to get

I managed to get it to stop saying “Double tap to open” on the Home Page.

I can’t seem to locate an option for the Status Bar. I want to stop VO from
saying “Not Charging, when checking the battery status. I only want to know
for sure that it is charging when I plug it in.
Getting rid of the words “Status bar item would be nice, too.”

In settings, just go to accessibility / Voice Over, then swipe down to Speech
and double tap.
In there, swipe to pronunciation, and double tap.
This screen will contain a list of any pronunciation changes you have
previously made, and any new ones will be added to this list.
To make a new change, just double tap the add button. The screen that comes up
is where you enter the current word or phrase, and the new way you want it
pronounced.
When done, just double tap on the back button to go back to the list of changes
and your new change will be part of the list.

Hope this helps.

On the Status bar it says cellular 3 of 3 bars signal strength I wanted to
change this so I did this:
Put in in the phrase box

of 4 bars signal strength
Replacement bars
now when swiping across the status bar it says cellular 2 bars.
I also didn’t want Status bar item spoken so I did this
In the first box I put
Status bar item
Replacement just put in a space.

Hello Sieghard,
thank you very much.
Speaking of Netatmo, is there any particular model I should get, or each
of their models are accessible?

Thanks.
Maria

Netatmo is still the best solution although I recently came across another one,
but unfortunately I can't remember the name.
It should be easily available in Europe as it's a French company.

But my old Windows computer has, shall we say given up the ghost. I have

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Miss read that,

Not sure if the situation would work now

But I'm not sure if it would let you copy and paste from it to drop box,

Carolyn:

I don't have a headset, but tried it using my blue tooth enabled hearing aids
and still got the 'stop' at the beginning.

The only way I was able to get around it was to use remote access from my
landline phone to my voicemail and change the greeting that way.

RE: Siri is no longer speaking in response to questions on my iPhone

2022-01-04 Thread Debby
Hi Mary,

The only thought I have is that Siri volume is too low. To check this ask a
question that she will have to speak for some time such as the weather. Do a
3-finger swipe down on the screen to get her talking and press the up-volume
several times and see if you can hear her. I had something similar happen, but
my symptom was that the tone for Siri and dictating was extremely soft.

I hope this helps!

Happy New Year!

Debby

Subject: Siri is no longer speaking in response to questions on my iPhone

I have Siri set to always speak responses, even when silent mode is on. And all
of a sudden, for the last couple of days or so, when I ask a question, I get no
vocal response from Siri. I’m used to this if voiceover is disabled, but with
voice over on, I expect to always get a spoken response. Is anyone else having
a problem here?
Mary
