Re: My Alarm in the Morning

2022-03-23 Thread Richard Turner
Edit your alarm.
Where it says sound, double tap.
Then, make sure you start at the very top. Vibration will likely be at the
default setting. Flick right, and the next thing should be songs.
If you get to where it offers ringtones, you have gone too far.
Once you pick a song, make sure to save the changes.
I think you go back one screen from picking the song, then there will be the
save button.

My Alarm in the Morning

2022-03-23 Thread Esther Levegnale

Hi, Everyone,

I have a dilemma here. When I had my 7+ phone, I was able to set an alarm to a
particular song and it would play. However, since I've had this phone, the
alarm goes off with just the vibration and without the music.

Any thoughts?

Karen, I got out in afternoon sunshine, did not have a bit of trouble. The
phone will give instructions, move head this way and that way, kind of like,
when entering a fingerprint one, how it had you keep entering a finger print
again and again.

They say you don't have to be in bright sun, but I can tell you that, for me,
it worked, so that is what I would do again with a new phone.

Also, in settings, there is a setting inside Accessibility or somewhere, where
you turn off Full Attention, although it should be off with Voiceover on. I
can't remember exactly about that, but someone else will know exactly what I am
talking about.

Carolyn. I'm glad you got your face ID to work. I had no idea you are over
82. You seem as if you use the iPhone pretty well. Congrads to you. I hear
from some older people on different lists how they couldn't learn to use an
iPhone or that it is to hard. The iPhone is awesome and I really enjoy using

I wish these type stoves were available when we purchased ours about six years
ago. We had a heckuva time finding something that we could even mark.

Has anyone seen any accessible bread machines? I don’t know if I missed it in
the link to Accessibility appliances or perhaps there’s just not one that’s
read readily available yet. I would be happy if it could be accessed with the
iPhone as opposed to Alexa. All that’s all I’m thinking in the worst case
scenario, I could always use Be My Eyes or Aira.

Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the scale recommendation -- and I'm definitely in your wife's corner!

Re: Accessible appliances Stove

2022-03-23 Thread Kimberly Gardner
We have a stove from the Cafe line as well and I absolutely love it.
The iPhone app works okay but could be better. I have my stove
connected to my echo and, as has already been pointed out, as long as
you can press that remote enable button everything works like a dream
-- most of the time anyway. But these stoves are quite pricey.

There is certainly a speed bump with 5G. To add to my previous
comments, I don't think the sound quality is different between the SE
2 and SE 3. However, my ears aren't the greatest at picking up such
differences, so maybe others have noticed an improvement?

If set up correctly Face Id will recognize you with glasses although some
people set up Face I d without and then set up an alternate appearance wearing
glasses, sort of like setting up the same finger twice with a Touch I dphone.

Hi, Everyone,

As the subject indicates, I'm having trouble putting in Face ID rather than to
use my security code. I tried to do everything it asked me to do, but knocked

Re: Anyone purchasing the new iPhone SE2022

2022-03-23 Thread Julian
Hello all,
Having had mine since Friday the 18th, I can also say that I'm noticing an
improvement in battery life even with 5G enabled. I won't say it is
substantially better than the previous model, but noticeable nonetheless. I
think the combination of the newer hardware and iOS 15.4 is doing its job.

Re: recommendations for accessible kitchen scales and cooking thermometers

2022-03-23 Thread Penny Reeder
I am looking and hoping for a talking instant-read thermometer and
cannot find one that I trust. I would really love to find an
accessible Thermopen thermometer, but have never been able to find one
or anything comparable.

Thanks for the scale recommendation -- and I'm definitely in your wife's corner!

RE: Having Trouble Putting in Face ID

2022-03-23 Thread Carolyn
Maybe not about the sunlight. All I know is that it worked for me without a
hitch.

There is absolutely no need at all to set up Face Id in sunshine or even
outside. It seems to be better to not do it in complete darkness, but just in a
room with normal light from a window or artificial light is just fine.

Thanks, Josh. As good as you are with the Victor Stream, even though it has
buttons, I was sure you'd be a whizz with your phone.

I'm soon to be 85, but my Dad stayed pretty up to date with electronics right
up to the end, so I hope I can do OK with them.

Carolyn. I'm glad you got your face ID to work. I had no idea you are over
82. You seem as if you use the iPhone pretty well. Congrads to you. I hear
from some older people on different lists how they couldn't learn to use an
iPhone or that it is to hard. The iPhone is awesome and I really enjoy using
mine.

RE: recommendations for accessible kitchen scales and cooking thermometers

2022-03-23 Thread Richard Turner
I like the iGrill Mini meat probe by Weber.
Mini just means there is one probe. You can buy sets of 2 and more if you want
to be able to track more than one thing. It is good up to 500 degrees or maybe
550...
The app is very accessible. It is a little tedious but with some time
exploring, you can get presets set up for anything you want to cook.

It has a long cable so if you are baking something in the oven, or on an
outdoor grill, you can put the brains of the probe outside of the cooking area
so it doesn't melt, .

The batteries are a standard round battery, #2032.
I use it mostly on the Foreman grill for steaks or for a turkey in the oven, so
not a ton of use, but the batteries seem to last quite well.

I did order the phone but unfortunately I am unable to report on battery status
or anything else as it has not yet arrived at my home even though it was out
for delivery with UPS last Friday, the 18th. They never showed up with it and
the estimated date of delivery changed to Monday, the 21st. Where it once said
out for delivery it now says on the way, and where the estimated date of
delivery it says date will be provided soon. So, needless to say, I’m not a
particularly happy camper! What happened to it after arriving in my home city?
I’ve never had a problem like this one. If/when I get it, I’ll report. In the
meantime, there are probably messages here that I haven’t yet gotten to which
have the kind of info you are interested in lol.

Take care everyone,

RE: Having Trouble Putting in Face ID

2022-03-23 Thread Star Gazer
That tripped me up too, apparently if you can't make
eye contact with the phone and try to set it up without the attention aware
feature under accessibility turned off, the phone sets up expecting you to make
eye contact with it, probably what people who can see do, but depending on how
your eyes are, may be impossible for you.. it is for me, I can look at the
phone but not do the eye contact thing.

RE: How to Increase Volume of Text Notification Sound

2022-03-23 Thread Carolyn
You can always change your text notification sound; for a while I had mine on a
sound that went tweet like a bird. I have it back on the original sound, but
might change it back to bird, because much of the time I don't hear mine.

Subject: How to Increase Volume of Text Notification Sound

Hello,

I have an IPhone 8 & am current on IOS. My volume is fine & easily adjusted
except for the text notification sound. At times it will be fine then it will
suddenly be quite soft such that I don’t notice when I get a text. Everything
else has the volume I want. I even turned the volume up louder than I want
thinking it would fix the text notification sound but no luck. I have looked
through settings & found no way to just adjust the text notification sound. I
looked at choosing some different sounds for this notification but none of them
are as loud as I’d like. I have not found a pattern in what seems to cause the
notification sound to go down in volume as much of the time it is fine.

Any ideas on how I can increase the text notification sound?

Thanks,

Sherry Wells

Hey, Carolyn!

Way to go! In other words--you go, girl! Good for you. I'll never forget the
words my Dad instilled into me. He said, and I quote: "Never stop learning."
He said these words to me when I graduated college way back in 1965. My iPhone
13 Pro Max is a gem and it didn't take me long to learn the gestures. I do
have to get a better handle on Face ID, but I'm, going to try some new tricks.

Again, kudos to you!

The iPhone is awesome and I really enjoy using
mine.

Re: Anyone purchasing the new iPhone SE2022

2022-03-23 Thread Scott Davert
The SE 3 seems to have slightly improved battery life over the SE 2.
This is with 5g turned on. Mine arrived Monday, so I'm not ready to
conclude much yet. Bluetooth seems to stay connected a bit more
reliably than on the SE 2, likely thanks to the faster processor.

RE: what to choose

2022-03-23 Thread Vicky Collins
I wonder how much difference the 2X2 MIMO in the SE versus the 4X4 MIMO in the 13s makes? I’m thinking the mmWav 5G not being in the SE wouldn’t make a difference to most people right now.I certainly don’t need another iPhone, but I considered buying the new SE anyway. For while I can handle Face ID without too much trouble most of the time in the day and the evening, I find myself switching back to my SE 2020 when I go to bed at night. I often wake up in the middle of the night and want to check something on my phone, but I just can’t seem to get the Face ID to work when I’m in the bed like that and I get tired of entering the passcode all the time. Sent from Mail for Windows From: Kelly PierceSent: Wednesday, March 23, 2022 12:18 AMTo: viphone@googlegroups.comSubject: Re: what to choose Half of the usefulness of iPhones is iOS. RE: Charging My New iPhone 13 Pro Max

2022-03-23 Thread Christopher Chaltain
There's a lot of confusion on how to take the best care of these newer
batteries in our smart phones and a lot of differing opinions on the web. Like
Joshua, I let my phone charge all the way up to 100%. I also leave the smart
charging feature enabled. From what I've read, the absolute best practice for
these LI batteries is frequent shallow charges, i.e. let the battery run down
to about 40% and then charge it up to around 80%. For my part, I didn't get a
smart phone to have another pet where I have to spend so much time worrying
about it's caring and feeding, so that's why I let the electronics in the
battery and the features in the operating system take care of my battery
management for me. I also do things like let my phone charge most every night,
so the smart charging feature can pick up on that pattern. I'm also very seldom
away from a power source for extended periods of time. Users in other
situations may decide to make different choices then those I've made for very
sound reasons.

Esther. I don't know why you would think it would be a bad idea to charge a
brand new iPhone to 100%. I do it all the time with my iPhone 8, and my
battery lasted me for over 2 years before needing to be replaced. I hope you
have apple care for your new iPhone. I didn't have to pay a thing for my new
battery. I found out that the
13 pro with a one terabyte storage will cost $1500 not including tax or an
additional $200 for apple care. I'm probably looking at around
$2000 or so for my next iPhone. Especially since there might be higher
capacity phones then one terabyte models in the future. I'd say my iPhone 8 is
good for a couple more years. I can pay $10 per month for apple care, a real
bargain in my opinion.

Finding Video?

2022-03-23 Thread Fazil M.
Hi, Group.

Yesterday, I went to the post office to mail something. I turned off
Voiceover and gave iPhone8 to post office assistant and asked him to take
photo of the receipt.

When I came home and turned voiceover on, it said 'stop video recording'. I
stopped it.

My question is, when the video-recording button was on, there must be a
video of this recording somewhere, how can I find this video and delete it,
please?

Thanks!

RE: Opening the Alexa app on my iPhone results in a loss of speaker volume.

Ohh good, so nice, every time I got into the Alexa app, I had to put on my
head phones.

Hi Mary,

One way to get around this is to, after you open the Alexa app go to the app
switcher and single finger double tap the Alexa app again. Now the sound will
come through your speakers. This has to be done every time you use the Alexa
app like this.

There's another work around and I'll post the steps as soon as I can find them.

Stay safe and take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

I’m pretty sure this came up a while ago, and I really didn’t pay that much
attention. I wonder if anybody has found a workaround for the problem which
occurs when you open the Alexa app. All of a sudden, the volume only goes
through the earpiece which is very quiet.

Hey, Joshua, Just wanted to tell you that in addition to what I said in my

I also leave my phone on all night because my Fitbit measures how long I sleep.

Thanks again and I truly love this new phone.

Need help with photos and videos

2022-03-23 Thread catwacky via VIPhone
Hi all,

We have a new grandbaby, and when I get pictures or videos on my phone, I
want to title and save them, but have no idea how to even begin doing this.
I cannot continue depending on my sweet daughter-in-law, besides, she lives
an hour away. So, any ideas about this? Really appreciate it!

Karen
