RE: Today View in Notification Center is completely broken in IOS 9.2.1

Hello Brian,

I cannot confirm your findings.

The today view is functioning just as it always has, via VoiceOver, in 9.3.2.

Does anyone successfully use the Today view in Notification Center? I have
deleted everything and put some things back but in the latest update IOS and
VoiceOVer completely crashes in Today View as I hear screen curtain on then
nothing for a few seconds and then screen curtain on once again. If I try
touching or flicking around the screen I get nothing or VO just continues to
repeat the weather until crashing. Today view has never worked on any of my 3
iPhones since they introduced it. Thanks,

RE: iTunes SideBar, Anyone?

2016-05-19 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Rose,

The option to either show or hide the SideBar is only available when not in the
phone view. Or, more simply stated, make certain you do not have your phone
connected to iTunes when you attempt to hide or show the SideBar.

I know this sounds ridiculously confusing but, nevertheless, it's true.

Hello Everyone,

I am posting this to both the V iPhone and Mac Visionaries Mailing List.

I am so surprised that no one has mentioned the return of the iTunes SideBar in
iTunes 12.4. (smile)

If you didn't know it, it's back and looks almost like it did in iTunes 11 and
earlier.

Yep, it's true. From the View menu, select Show SideBar.

Enjoy,

Mark

Problem sharing notes via whatsapp

2016-05-19 Thread Jan Kleinhans
Hi all

Using an iPhone 5S and ios 9.3.1 and the very latest version of whatsapp. I
was trying to share a saved note via whatsapp. Using the share option in the
notes app, the option to share with whatsapp is indeed available, but when it
comes to sending the actual note via whatsapp, the message "can not share this
item" displays on the screen. Now, I can share the note via e-mail and text
message and so on. My question is then: would this be some bug, either in
whatsapp or notes may be, as I would have thought that the whatsapp option
should not be available if the note can not be shared via whatsapp. I have
tried different ways with different notes, they are not protected in any way,
and even if I write a new note manually on the keyboard the same thing happens.
Any ideas on what might be the problem here would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I have, and neither of those things help, unfortunately. My next step is
to delete Kate, and reinstall her, which I've done. I haven't done a lot of
testing yet, but things seem to be all right so far (knock on wood).

 get better with her.

Two other very odd issue is that, when reading, and with Kate, I get a
couple of words, three at the most, repeated. If I'm remembering
correctly, this usually only happens at the end of a sentence, and is
quite rare in any case. I'm not touching the phone when this happens, just
to get the idea I'm rewinding the speech or anything cleared up. I
typically read in the kitchen while washing dishes and have the phone
sitting on the coffee maker, so that it doesn't have the risk of getting
 wet.

Another issue I'm having is that VDR freezes when flicking, and often just
after opening a book. "it's like there's nothing at all on the screen.
What happens is that the screen freezes, and nothing shows up on it. I'm
not sure why this is happening, but the flicking thing sometimes happens
quickly, and sometimes takes a bit longer to happen. And it happens
everywhere in the app—in the books list, the folders list, and when going
through items to add from Dropbox and BookShare.

 Thanks,
 Ari

Re: Apple quietly toughens rules forcing passcode unlocks of Touch ID devices

2016-05-19 Thread Kelly Pierce
For those in the United States, the cops can legally pull your fingers
apart while in handcuffs and touch it to your iPhone to unlock it.
they don’t need a search warrant. A court order is required to compel
the owner to provide a password, if the iPhone owner still remembers
his password.

Hi Sieghard,
How do you know if the cable you buy is Apple certified. I didn't even know
that there was such a thing as an Apple certified cable. Thank you for the
information. My iPhone is a 5S. I only just now found your message in my junk
email. So I'm sorry for taking a little while to get back to you. Thank you

Apple quietly toughens rules forcing passcode unlocks of Touch ID devices

Hello All,

Apple quietly toughens rules forcing passcode unlocks of Touch ID devices
By Roger Fingas
Thursday, May 19, 2016

Apple has silently added another condition under which an iPhone or iPad
user has to unlock their device with a passcode, despite having Touch ID
enabled, according to a report.

iOS will now ask for a passcode if it hasn't been unlocked that way for six
days, and Touch ID hasn't been used in the last eight hours, MacWorld said.
A quoted Apple spokesperson claimed the rule has been in place since iOS 9
was released in Sept. 2015, but MacWorld noted this is inconsistent with the
iOS Security guide, which only mentioned the change starting May 12. Apple
declined to offer an explanation.

The company has several such rules in place, the two most common forcing a
passcode unlock if a device is rebooted or hasn't been unlocked for 48
hours. Others require a passcode after new fingers are added to Touch ID, a
person tries five unsuccessful Touch ID logins, or someone issues a remote
lock via Find My iPhone.

If the discovered rule is genuinely new, it's not clear how or when Apple
might have made the change, since iOS 9.3.1 was released in March and 9.3.2
arrived earlier this week.

Regardless, the tactic is presumably a means of reinforcing the security of
Apple devices. It could potentially have an impact on U.S. law enforcement,
which has already begun seeking court orders compelling people to unlock
iPhones with their fingerprints

Wow! That's so weird! I think that I might try uninstalling and reinstalling
Kate, even before switching to James, and see if that fixes the problem.

I'm using Neospeech Kate. I'll switch to another voice I have, probably
Neospeech James, and see if the problem persists. If the problem goes away with
James. I'll probably uninstall and reinstall Kate, and see if things get better
with her.

Two other very odd issue is that, when reading, and with Kate, I get a couple
of words, three at the most, repeated. If I'm remembering correctly, this
usually only happens at the end of a sentence, and is quite rare in any case.
I'm not touching the phone when this happens, just to get the idea I'm
rewinding the speech or anything cleared up. I typically read in the kitchen
while washing dishes and have the phone sitting on the coffee maker, so that it
doesn't have the risk of getting wet.

Another issue I'm having is that VDR freezes when flicking, and often just
after opening a book. "it's like there's nothing at all on the screen. What
happens is that the screen freezes, and nothing shows up on it. I'm not sure
why this is happening, but the flicking thing sometimes happens quickly, and
sometimes takes a bit longer to happen. And it happens everywhere in the app—in
the books list, the folders list, and when going through items to add from
Dropbox and BookShare.

Subject: iTunes SideBar, Anyone?

Hello Everyone,

I am posting this to both the V iPhone and Mac Visionaries Mailing List.

I am so surprised that no one has mentioned the return of the iTunes SideBar
in iTunes 12.4. (smile)

If you didn't know it, it's back and looks almost like it did in iTunes 11
and earlier.

Yep, it's true. From the View menu, select Show SideBar.

Enjoy,

Mark

Hello Everyone,

I am posting this to both the V iPhone and Mac Visionaries Mailing List.

I am so surprised that no one has mentioned the return of the iTunes SideBar
in iTunes 12.4. (smile)

If you didn't know it, it's back and looks almost like it did in iTunes 11
and earlier.

Yep, it's true. From the View menu, select Show SideBar.

Enjoy,

Voice Dream Reader has been doing two things lately that are highly
frustrating. I've closed and restarted the app, as well as turned my iPhone off
and on, with no success at fixing these issues. The first is that, when
reading, Voice Dream Reader will suddenly stop reading, then continue Reading,
but further on down the page, as if the stop never happened. The second is that
sometimes when pausing, Voice Dream Reader will return to a previous place in
the book, and I'll have to scroll forward to find where I was when I paused.
Has anybody else been having either of these issues?

Ignore my message: Help Needed Manually Updating Latest Versions of Apps with iTunes 12.4

2016-05-19 Thread Alan Lemly
List,

Please ignore the message I just posted requesting assistance manually
updating app versions to my computer using iTunes 12.4. I wasn't fully
checking the screen for an update button with focus placed on the app
containing the update. I just successfully updated my Dictionary app and I
apologize for the false start.

Alan Lemly

Hello Mark and Others,

Now that I've updated my Windows 7 computer to iTunes 12.4 and updated my
iPhone 6 to iOS 9.3.2, I've gone back and reviewed the older posts
discussing how to manually upgrade app versions to one's computer using
iTunes now that this is no longer automatically done with iOS 9.x. I believe
Mark Taylor posted the original message about this last October and I
believe Anna Dresner has also commented on it.

Here is my current issue which I haven't been able to resolve by following
those posts. A number of app upgrades showed up in the Apps Store after I
upgraded to iOS 9.3.2. I suspect these weren't previously available to me
since I was running iOS 8.3. I upgraded a handful of these on my iPhone. One
of these upgrades was to Dictionary Pro version 5.1 by Farlex so I now have
version 5.1 of this app on my iPhone but have version 4.5 of it in my iTunes
library on my computer. With my device disconnected from my computer, I go
into apps within iTunes, select the Updates button at the top of the
screen, and get a grid view of the apps in my library which I assume have
available updates. This is where I run into a problem because I'm not seeing
any way to manually update them on the computer. I get no option to do this
when right clicking or calling up a context menu when on the Updates tab
with the app selected. I also get no such option to update it when I place
focus on the My Apps tab, view them as a list, and place focus on the ones I
want to manually update. I know Mark's original post instructed us to start
iTunes without a device connected, go into Apps, and manually update those
for which you wanted to get versions transferred to your computer. I just
can't figure out how to do this.

I don't know if this has changed with the recent iTunes 12.4 upgrade but I
sure would appreciate any help with how to do this. I did note that a new
app I had downloaded to my iPhone did transfer into my iTunes library on my
computer. Only the existing apps already there for which I grabbed newer
versions on my iPhone didn't automatically transfer.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't know if any of the below will assist, but these are my thoughts and
observations.
What Braille Input Mode are you typing in? i.e., 6-dot, 8-dot, or
contracted? (I use 8-dot, myself.

I don't (really) encounter the problem you mention. A thought I had was that
it might just be the shortness of the width, i.e., 14 cells; and it's easy
enough to re-route the cursor to your writing position again. (It is, of
course, one character behind where you are.)

There's also a Reduced Motion setting (I believe it's in the Accessibility
Settings). You could try toggling it to the opposite state of what it is
when you have the problem.

Subject: focus 14 blue braille display and iOS 9.3.2

Hello all,
Since more then 1 year, I have a focus 14 blue braille display.
Until now, the device has never worked as expected with my iPhone 6. I have
already solved some issues/problems with changing settings but there is
still some annoying problem.

When I am typing in a mail or any other text area, with the braille-keyboard
of the focus, all goes fine.
But, it happens often that the braille display (and also the cursor) is
jumping to the beginning of the text I have already written.
This happens when I stop typing. I think it happens randomly , not after a
specifiek key I press on the braille display.

Is this still a bug in iOS or could a setting solve this problem?
Many thx for the answers and perhaps solutions.

Kind regards,
William Windels

Hi Kimber.

It is because you have a wrong setting in the router. Character needs to be set
to some, and everything works fine.

Best regards Annie.

Hi Kimber,

I haven't seen this, but my guess is that it's showing you what VoiceOver
speaks, rather than what you typed. Since the text looks normal, I would ignore
it.

Subject: Invitation to an audio accessibility program on TeamTalk

  Hello all,
We have an audio conference program about accessibility on our private
TeamTalk server. This program is generally in Turkish language however, Harri
Pasanen, creator of legendary Braille program MBraille will be our guest this
week, on 21st of May. Therefore, we thought people who can speak english can
also join the program and ask questions or make suggestions to Harri. The
program will be in Turkish but everything will be translated for Harri to
understand and answer. Thus, we'd like to invite blind people all over the
world to join us and ask questions about MBraille on iOS and Android. The
program will be at 21:00 (9 PM) by Turkish time. For those who wish to join may
contact me to solve the time zone problems and installing TeamTalk and joining
the channel.
In this article, I will try to briefly explain how to join the server on all
platforms that TeamTalk application is available.
For those who wish to join via a windows machine, please download and install
the following application.
  http://bearware.dk/teamtalk/v5.1.1/TeamTalk_v5.1.1_Setup.exe
During the installation, please check the TeamTalk5 client for accessibility.
After installation, press f2 and press tap to hear the host address or IP
address edit field.
  Type 188.132.221.21
Press tab and do not touch UDP and TCP port fields, they will be default
value, 10333.
Press tab till you hear username and type guest.
Press tab once and type guest again for password.
Now, press enter, you will be connected to the server.
Before connecting, press f4, and type your name and surname to the nickname
field.
Press tab and check push to talk checkbox and uncheck the voice activation
checkbox. Press setup keys button to set the push to talk key. Just press space
bar on setup keys button and press and hold the key for a few seconds that you
wish to use as PTT key. Generally, people use the Alt-GR key, the alt key on
the right side of the space bar key.
Press tab once and select the TeamTalk language there, if your language is
not supported, do not touch it.
Navigate with tabs and find the vu-Metre updates check box and uncheck it, in
order not to hear TeamTalk progress bar updates.
Press tab again and set the maximum text length to 512.
Press ctrl tab twice and select the direct sound radio button.
Press tab and select the microphone you want to use.
Press tab again and set the output device you wish to use.
Press tab again and find the
Enable automatic gain control (microphone level adjusted automatically)
  checkbox and uncheck it.
Press ok button after you made all the changes.
Now, you are ready to join, listen and talk.
After you join the channel, press letter E to join the English speakers'
channel, in which someone will help you to join the conference channel and help
you to solve the other problems you experience.
If you want to join via iPhone or iPad, just go to AppStore and search for
TeamTalk or click this link to download the application:
  https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/teamtalk-5/id1069487751?mt=8
On iOS, select add button on the main TeamTalk menu and fill the necessary
fields.
Server name: the name you wish to know the server.
Host Address or IP address: 188.132.221.21
Tap TCP and UDP port fields once, do not change anything, just continue and
type guest for username, and guest again for the password.
Now press save button and find the server name that you typed and swipe up or
down with one finger to connect the server.
Before connecting, you may want to make some program settings, so click
preferences or settings. Type your name to Nickname field.
Check the necessary boxes according to your wishes and set the microphone and
speaker volume settings.
After connecting the server, just find the English Speakers' channel and you
will get help if you need and to forward you to the conference channel.
If you want to join the program via an Android device, just go to PlayStore
and search for TeamTalk or download the app from the following link:
  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.bearware.gui
After downloading and installing the app, just click add button and do the
same things as it is explained on iOS part.
Fill the necessary fields and press save. Select more options, settings and
make the necessary settings here. Do not forget to type your name to Nickname
field.
Press connect button for the server name you saved and you will be connected
to the server.
On the right buttom, you will see TX button, that button is PTT key. on its
left,

Odd braille behavior in iOS

2016-05-19 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

I've only recently begun using my focus braille display with my iPhone
for word processing. It's working pretty well except for some odd
behavior when I try reading back over what I've written. I find that
when I type a period at the end of a sentence, even though the correct
punctuation mark is present in the document, I see the word "period"
on my display rather than the punctuation symbol.

Why is this happening? Do I have something set wrong? Or is this
something funky with the braille translation in iOS?

Thanks for any assistance.

Kimber

the picture to be taken automatically. I find have a pretty steady hand and I guess a good sense of
how to centre the camera and how high to lift it. If I use the field of view report I usually have
all edges and corners visible and I'm rarely more than 5 or 6 degrees off in the rotation and that
doesn't seem to matter very much to the app since I usually get satisfactory results.

I suspect it is a bug, but I think Sieghard said he can use automatic mode.
So I'm not sure.
I can't think of another setting that would have to do with this problem.

The only time I've gotten the lens covered message is when the profile was set

Or, your case is partially covering the lens.

When I used BE My Eyes, I was told by the helping person that the camera is not

Are we supposed to turn somethings on that might be turned off by mistake?

VDR voice problems, still there!

2016-05-19 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
Hallo to all the book readers,

I think I have the latest incarnation of Voice Dream Reader, but I continue
to have voice issues. Although I have selected Daniel enhanced, under
settings/manage my voices, I only hear the compact version when using the
"play" mode. Has anyone found a way to get the enhanced voice to play?

I bought Vittorio, ages ago. He is, by far, my preferred Italian voice. When I
go to the shop, in manage my voices, I see Vittorio, but the link to buy is
gone. I can only see "purchased" but it is dimmed. I can't even buy him again,
but he does not show up in my choice of Italian voices. I can only access the
default Italian IOS voice. How can I get Vittorio back? He and I are stuck on
the Orient express, on our way to war torn Germany! Our plight is perilous!
Please help!

Subject: Here's an Alternative OCR/scanning app

Hi all,

I wanted to post an app that I think is actually meant more for translating,
but I am having great success with it for scanning. I have been mostly using
it for importing images with text that are on the web or in my screen shots.
However, just now, I took a picture of my TV screen to read the information of
a song on MusicChoice. It worked like a charm.

One thing to note, I wouldn’t recommend using this app for private or sensitive
data. I tried it in airport mode and it would not work. I’m taking this to
mean, the data/information is transmitted online. Who knows where it is going.
 :)

than 90 languages by DataCom

Invitation to an audio accessibility program on TeamTalk

2016-05-19 Thread Ömer Yesiltas
Hello all,
We have an audio conference program about accessibility on our private TeamTalk
server. This program is generally in Turkish language however, Harri Pasanen,
creator of legendary Braille program MBraille will be our guest this week, on
21st of May. Therefore, we thought people who can speak english can also join
the program and ask questions or make suggestions to Harri. The program will be
in Turkish but everything will be translated for Harri to understand and
answer. Thus, we'd like to invite blind people all over the world to join us
and ask questions about MBraille on iOS and Android. The program will be at
21:00 (9 PM) by Turkish time. For those who wish to join may contact me to
solve the time zone problems and installing TeamTalk and joining the channel.
Press tab and do not touch UDP and TCP port fields, they will be default value,
10333.
Press tab once and select the TeamTalk language there, if your language is not
supported, do not touch it.
If you want to join the program via an Android device, just go to PlayStore and
