wanted to learn more I think there was a place run by a kind gentleman where 
you could input the kind of device and IOS  you are using and then you could go 
through lessons that got you familiar with your device.


Does anyone know that site?  Or, if someone could tell me where to go to learn 
more at my own speed I sure would appreciate it.

google home on your iPhone

I have been given a goodle home mini for christmas.  I have got it going but I 
cannot work out how to get google play music on my iPhone when I go to it it 
tells me to go on line to subscribe but there is no link.  If I do it from my 
windows 10 pc how do I then get it on my iPhone and google home minit.  Sorry 
if this is not supposed to be here but I do not know anywhere else to try.

Shai, thank you for confirming my issue.  I was beginning to think I was going 
crazy.

After having received all of your replies, I used Siri to set a custom time.  
Subsequently, the custom timer function, as described in my original post, now 
works perfectly.

Very weird, to say the least.

I had the same problem with the timer. Once I turned off VoiceOver and a 
sighted person set the custom timer once, however, it worked fine.

There used to be a site called VoiceOver-Easy.net 
but that site has not worked for months.
What you need to focus on is the iOS not the physical phone. All iPhones behave 
the same, but there are slight variations depending which iOS version you are 
running.
The iPhone SE is a fine phone and should be for a while longer.
You might try The Hadley Institute for the Blind iFocus videos which you can 
find on their web page www.hadley.edu
or on YouTube.
Also, there are several books through National Braille Press by Anna Dresner 
(not sure if I spelled her last name correctly) that are quite good.

to contact people. The email address Im using to send this reply is the email I

In Googling now, indeed there is no app switcher but I was told to
close and re-open the app. Sorry for the miss-information but I have
not been using the watch for some time and I was going by memory.

A Facebook Question

I’ve been using Facebook for years, with both the mobile web site and the 
Facebook app. My aunt’s birthday is today and I could write on her timeline or 
contact her via e-mail but I don’t have her e-mail address. Is there a way to 
retrieve her e-mail address through Facebook? I wasn’t sure if such a thing is 
possible and have been curious about that for a long time. It seems like such a 
capability might be useful for situations like this, and also for situations 
where I’m trying to look somebody up on Facebook and get multiple hits but 
can’t identify the correct person(s) by the image alone. Any ideas?

I've always just used Siri to set the timer, saying Begin 25 minute timer. It's 
worked most of the time, but I always check to make sure the countdown has

I actually called Apple Accessibility about this issue in September as I had a

button appeared as available. I was also told to try quitting the app in the

OfferUp's app has some major accessibility issues. You can't access messages or 
notifications from the opening screen of the app. Clicking on a notification 
will get you there though. There are the typical unlabeled buttons and stuff 
too.
LetGo could use some work, but is slightly better than OfferUp. 5Mile is 
actually pretty accessible. Nextdoor has some issues that could be addressed, 
but it's workable. Close5 is almost straight up spam. 
It may be more difficult for a blind person to make a go at this, but you can 
make some decent money and a living out of this by simply selling this way.

random stuff you don't need anymore - but is just too good to throw out!
- a garage sale might be next up on your list of to-do's.
But c'mon, it's summer and you have better things to do than sit outside all 
day with cardboard signs haggling over a few pennies for your old stuff.
Here's how to have a virtual garage sale via simple smartphone apps.

VarageSale
VarageSale (iOS/Android) makes the process of getting your items in front of 
local buyers super easy. You use the free app - or the VarageSale website - to 
create a brief listing for each thing you're trying to get rid of. A quick pic, 
short description, and your asking price is all you need, so you can go on a 
serious listing spree in just a few minutes. It's fantastic for listing a bunch 
of items one after another, so if you've got a whole garage full of goodies to 
unload, this is your best bet. What's really great about VarageSale is you (and 
everyone else) can log in using Facebook, which means everyone has a real name 
and a face to go along with it, so no creepy contacts will flood your inbox.

OfferUp, Shpock
If you're really in a hurry, and just need to ditch a handful of things, there 
are apps for that, too. OfferUp (iOS/Android) posts listings in as little as 30 
seconds, and has a image-heavy browsing style that lets your eye-catching 
photos do the selling for you, along with private messaging and reputation 
ratings to weed out scammers and spammers.
Shpock (iOS/Android) works in the same way, but bills itself as being for 
"beautiful" items, so if you're selling something that you think deserves some 
seriously special consideration - like a fancy antique bike or pricey 
electronics - it's a solid bet someone on Shpock will be interested.

Facebook, Nextdoor
These apps are great go-tos for moving used items in a hurry, but if you 
absolutely don't want to mess around with any new apps whatsoever, you're still 
in luck! Facebook is packed with pages full of local people buying and selling. 
Head to Facebook, either on your phone app or web browser, and in the search 
box at the top of the page, just type the name of your city or county along 
with the words "buy and sell." In my experience, even the smallest towns have a 
rummage page on Facebook, so the top listing in the search results is going to 
be your go-to. 
Nextdoor is a similarly simple way to show your neighborhood what you're 
selling.
Of course, there's always the chance that your tiny township has missed out on 
the Facebook train. That's okay! In that case, Craigslist is the old standby 
that still produces results, even if the site looks like it is from 1999. 
Create a quick listing, toss in a photo, and insist on email contacts only - 
because giving your phone number on a public forum isn't a great idea
- and wait for a bite.

No matter which app, site, or virtual marketplace you end up using, the rules 
for exchanging your stuff for cash are always the same: Always insist on 
meeting in a public place, for safety, and never take checks. Seasoned local 
sellers will tell you that the parking lot of your local police station is a 
great place to make a sale, and nobody in their right mind is going to try to 
scam you (or worse) with Johnny Law looking over their shoulder. And if you 
don't feel like messing with paper money, an app like Square Cash (iOS/Android) 
can take payments directly, with an added layer of security and peace of mind.

I know selling things online might not be for everyone - like if you just have

That is correct and also applies to Audible. If anything is purchased via an 
app then the developer has to pay Apple I think 30% of the purchase price and 
of course Amazon is not about to give Apple 30% of their entire Audible and 
Kindle book revenue.
I think this is wrong of Apple, if companies have original content like Amazon 
does with Audible and Kindle Apple should not charge this, I’m sure if they 
went to Amazon asking for a small fee like 2 or 3% they could reach an 
agreement. At the same time it’s easy enough to jjust go online with the 
computer or the iPhone to purchase a book and to then read it in the Kindle app 
or listen to it in the Audible app.

If memory serves, there’s a lack of financial agreement between Amazon and 
Apple about cost, so you have to purchase the book either on your computer or 
the Amazon app, then you can download the book in the Kindle app.

Face ID and Animoji

Apple about cost, so you have to purchase the book either on your computer or 
the Amazon app, then you can download the book in the Kindle app.

You can't purchase Kindle books with the Kindle app or with the Amazon app. I 
think this might be due to some restriction Apple places on apps for purchasing 
content so that Apple makes sure it gets its cut but I'm not sure about that. 

You can purchase from the Amazon site from Safari from your I device so the 
easiest thing to do if you find a kindle book you want to bye while shopping 
with either the Kindle or Amazon apps is to save it to a list to make it easier 
to find again to purchase at the Amazon site on your computer or your I device 
using Safari.

RE: iOS Accessibility of Smart kitchen scales

So does anyone on this list know of a truly accessible grilling app, or I 
should say a smart kitchen/meat temperature probe app?

 

I need something that is good up to 250 degrees F. It must be able to set 
multiple temperature alarms.

I can't remember if I have the MyWay Vox3000 or 5000, but whichever one I have,

well. It's a glass-top model, and has plenty of room for your feet.

 

Anyhow, I don't know that I'd get a smart scale for the kitchen. I wanted to 
get an iGrill, but I've heard not so good things about the app since the 
company changed hands, which is unfortunate.

for the turnaround from sending it out to getting a working unit back.

Gripes with My Weigh durability and their crappy warranty response, I’ve been 
looking for an alternative. Unfortunately, for standalone talking scales, 
they’re really the only game in town. At least if you want to the gram accuracy 
anyway.

In any event, I came across a few “smart” kitchen scales on Amazon.

reach out to these companies directly, but thought I’d touch bases in case 
anyone’s already using them in their kitchen. 

Ideally, I’d like to continue to use a simple standalone talking kitchen scale, 
but considering that each Vox scale can go from $30 to $50 or more depending on 
where and when you buy them. Not to mention the cost of shipping when you have 
to send them in to be fixed/replaced. Spending a few bucks more for a bluetooth 
connected one becomes a way more attractive option.
