Hi to all, voice dream and zipped files in dropbox are working at least for now

2019-08-20 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Hi to all. I called a friend of mine and he suggested some
experiments I could do with trying to use different zip programs and
adding the files to dropbox. I don't know what happened, but I can
use 7zip which is my default zip program to make zipped files of audio
books and once they are uploaded to dropbox, seem to work just fine in
voice dream reader. This is so cool. I've been watching described
movies that I had put individual mp3 files
of a few movies and they play fine with this app. I have just
finished watching The Exorcist as well as a couple Clint Eastwood
Westerns that weren't to bad. Deleting my individual mp3 files or
zipped files from the app is pretty easy as well. I don't know at
this time if I'll get voice dream scanner or not, but I have heard
good things about that app as well.

Apple Cash card?

2019-08-20 Thread Mary Otten
Hi folks,
I just applied for the Apple card and have it in my wallet now. In reading
about it, I was given to understand that you should get an Apple Cash card
which is issued by some bank called greens I think it is, and this allows you
to do more with Apple Cash then just pay off your bill. And then I found an
article that tells you how to set up Apple Cash. I tried both approaches
referenced, when going into settings then Apple Pay and wallet, the other going
directly into wallet and clicking on Apple Cash to get the process started. In
both instances, I am being sent around in a circle. I hit set up, then
continue, I’m back to being told it’s not set up and I have to set it up and I
do it all again. I’m not seeing any error message. I don’t have a physical
card, and I didn’t think one was necessary. I am thoroughly confused. Has
anyone done this?

Re: Help with a voice setting

2019-08-20 Thread Michael Feir
Hello Johnna. To set a male Australian voice as the default voice, you need
to go into settings, general, accessibility, voiceover, speech. Once there,
you can download any of the voices available and set one as the default
voice. There are currently two male Australian voices. One is the male Siri
voice for Australia and the other is named Lee. You may have to add English
Australian to the language rotor but I don't think that'll be necessary.
There are currently British, Irish, US, Australian, Indian and South
African English voices.

I too have been experiencing issues with iHeartRadio lately. I use it to
listen to some playlists I've created. I wonder if it would do any good to
contact the APP developer.

Thanks for all the good advice. I'll reinstall Pages. It's no big deal since
it originally came with the iPhone, anyway. I've just never used it.

Iheart radio busted

2019-08-20 Thread Gordon
An update came out today that broke the my library tap. In previous
versions you could go to my library and flick through all of your
recently listened to stations and play any one of them that you want.
Now it only reads a couple of them where it says possible text and only
reads a couple of words. For example, Iheart 80's is now commercial fr.
This is really annoying because I listen to I heart a lot during the day.

Pages is the Apple wordprocessor (think "Word" but with the Apple usability
focus). It's native format is unlikely to be readable by other
applications. The person providing you the file can use Pages to export to
PDF (adobe), DOC (word), plain text, RTF, or epub ... or you can reinstall
Pages.

Re: How to delete magazines or newspapers that are downloaded into apple news

2019-08-20 Thread Mary Otten
When I open the News app, I see three tabs, one of which is “following“. When I
select that one, at the top there is indeed something called
Channels topics and stories. There is also an edit button. When I select the
edit button, I do get a choice to remove or re-order various publications and
more topics. But I don’t want to remove the publication entirely. That is, I
still want it in my listing. But I do not want to keep downloaded magazines. I
would frankly prefer to stream everything. So I’m looking for a way to get rid
of what has been downloaded, not download it again, but still keep things in my
interests list. I hope that makes more sense. I do not see a separate quote
channels“ tab.

Re: Text Replacements with braille screen input

2019-08-20 Thread Duane Steele
With a braille display, the best way to do text replacement is to write
whatever you want in grade 2 Braille, then go back to the top of the document
and put your output and input modes into 8-dot braille. You'll be reading your
text in grade 1 braille, and when you find an error that needs correcting or
text you wish to replace you can freely move the cursor to that part of your
document. I'm using a BrailleEdge by Hims. But I suspect this will work with
just about any braille device. Hope this helps.

Let me give you an example:

You can transfer a file like TALES OF THE TEXAS RANGERS cd 3.zip from your
computer to the voice dream reader app using iTunes 12.9 and I think it's a bit
easier than under earlier versions of iTunes.

Launch iTunes and connect your iPad to your computer and place focus on your

iPad and press enter.

Navigate to the Summary tab and press the F key to move to file sharing.

Press your F6 key and you'll jump to the file sharing portion of the screen

where the apps supporting it are listed below.

Tab until focus is on your list of apps and down arrow to the voice dream
readerapp.

Tab until the Add File has focus and press enter to navigate to the folder

containing TALES OF THE TEXAS RANGERS cd 3.zip file.

After you finish this process, TALES OF THE TEXAS RANGERS cd 3.zip should be in
your voice dream reader library.

Voice Dream Reader is one of the very best apps in the app store.

It is for reading or listening to a wide variety of file formats.

Perhaps listening to some podcasts and even reading the user guide might be
worth while before deciding the app is not worth keeping.

If the DVS files are in MP3 format, and the zip file is made correctly, there
is no reason why it should not work.

I've done this with tons of dvs series.

The reason I use itunes file sharing, the files can be directly imported into
voice dream reader. the following is an example of what files I transfer into
voice dream reader. TALES OF THE TEXAS RANGERS cd 2.zip and TALES OF THE TEXAS
RANGERS cd 3.zip are 1.24 GB. It would take a while to transfer them into

I'm not Russ, but Voice Dream Reader reads epub files perfectly.
I'm not sure what you mean about an ePub app?
As for his use of iTunes, Russ has far more patience than I and uses the
feature in iTunes to share files onto his device for Voice Dream Reader.
I find it easier to put them on Dropbox, or OneDrive and add them into Voice

Russ;
How do you use it with the epub app and iTunes?
Could you explainin a little bit further?
I’m a little dense.
Thanks

Voice Dream Reader is one of the very best apps in the app store.
It is for reading or listening to a wide variety of file formats.
Perhaps listening to some podcasts and even reading the user guide might be
worth while before deciding the app is not worth keeping.
If the DVS files are in MP3 format, and the zip file is made correctly, there
is no reason why it should not work.
I've done this with tons of dvs series.

I do everything from iCloud these days. However, Dropbox works well once
you've given VDR access. I used to import zips created with 7zip regularly with
no trouble. The zip should only contain mp3s which Voice Dream will treat as
separate headings in a book. Keep in mind that sometimes, it takes a little
while for the indexing to happen so give it a good 30 seconds after the
download completes to complete that and it should show up as a new book. Hope
that helps.

I've been following your adventures with keen interest as I complete my
guide for blind owners of iOS devices. I hope to publish it in mid to late
November once iOS13 changes have been incorporated. Perhaps, it'll still be of
some use to you then. You're doing quite well and learning fast.

files showed up and the dvs movie one didn't.

First open the news app. Next choose the channels tab. Next swipe
until you find edit and then double tap. Next swipe to the channel
that you want to delete and then swipe down until you find the option
remove and then double tap. Finally swipe until you find the done
button and then double tap.
