Hi Janet,

Find the app on your iPhone and uninstall it and reinstall it. You can look up
on the App Store to see if it has a watch app to go with the app on your phone.
Without knowing which you are speaking of, I can’t tell you too much more.

  Hi Janet,

Maybe you should reinstall the app on your phone? Not sure why it would show
on your phone but now on your watch. Are you sure that this particular app has
a watch counterpart?

Hi Janet,

In the Watch app on your phone, just flick down to the app in question.
Double tap on that and then there shoudl be a button that says sync with your
watch or Use with AppleWatch off or on. Make sure it is on. i don’t know the
exact verbage for it though. Sorry about that.

RE: Apple Cash card?

2019-08-21 Thread M. Taylor
I am with you, on this one, Mary.

While I have not yet applied for Apple Card, neither have I setup Apple Pay
Cash. The primary reason is that there is no one to whom I would send money or
from whom I expect money. Sounds sad, doesn't it? (smile).

Anyway, my point is that just before I apply for Apple Card, I will, in fact,
setup the Apple Cash Card for the same reason you mentioned, said reason being
in order to have a convenient way of transferring any cashback rewards to my
bank account, if I so choose.

At present, I would expect that there must be a deluge of applications in
process at the card has just been released.

I think I'll wait for the quote, second wave, quote, before I apply for the
card. See what various reviewers have to say about it and so forth.

RE: Braille Keyboards & Displays with iDevices

2019-08-21 Thread Paul and Paula Jordan
I have the focus 14 fifth generation. It has basic note taking capability and
pairs beautifully with the IPhone. The pairing is stable and consistent. I've
had it for almost 3 months and only had to re-pair it with the phone once and
that may have been computer operator error. I must say that I got it more as a
note taker, but find that I'm using it a lot more with the phone than I thought
I would. The 14 cell display is not really that difficult for me to get used
to since I had an 18 cell display previously. The cost is around 1,200.

Dictation Issues

2019-08-21 Thread Joe Orozco
Hi, is anyone else experiencing issues with dictation on the latest
build of iOS? Seemingly with increasing regularity, dictation will
just stop working. It’ll bing the way it’s supposed to but then just
flip off and put me back in an edit field. I mostly notice it on the
Messages app. I close the app, turn off Voiceover off and on. The only
thing that seems to work is rebooting the phone, but as I’d grown used
to never having to reboot the phone, it’s rather annoying. Can anyone
else speak to the issue, and if so, have you found any solutions to
fixing it? It’s not my cell service, because it used to work
consistently fine.

Thanks for any help,

Joe

Re: Apple Cash card?

2019-08-21 Thread Kelly Pierce
Mary,

If you make a person-to-person Apple Pay Cash transaction, you will
pay steeply for it using a credit card, including the Apple Card.
Instead, you will need to use a debit card for these transactions.
With debit cards, personal payments are free.

 Hi folks,

And then I found an article that tells you how to set up Apple Cash. I
tried both approaches referenced, when going into settings then Apple
Pay and wallet, the other going directly into wallet and clicking on
Apple Cash to get the process started. In both instances, I am being
sent around in a circle. I hit set up, then continue, I’m back to being

not seeing any error message. I don’t have a physical card, and I didn’t
think one was necessary. I am thoroughly confused. Has anyone done
 this?

Re: Apple Pay Help Please.

2019-08-21 Thread Kelly Pierce
I anticipated this problem with setting up multiple cards. I decided
to only use a debit card from one financial institution with Apple Pay
to prevent configuration problems. Also, if I accidentally used a
credit card to make a person to person transaction, I could be charged
a fee compared to being free with a debit card.

I would suggest removing one payment method and seeing what happens.
If that does not work, then remove all cards and load just one card
and see if it then is operational. If that does not work, consider
restoring after all cards have been removed.

Subject: Re: Braille Keyboards & Displays with iDevices

Bill,

I have experience with three Braille devices and my iPhone. I bought a
BrailleMe from National Braille Press, but could never get it to pair with
the phone. It's a cute little device and the price, well, ya gotta love it
($500 or so). Except that mine refused to play with the phone. So it went
back to Boston.
I now use a Brailliant BI14 from Humanware. Cost was about $1000. 14 cells
are fewer than you'd think, which means you do a lot of panning. For
instance, when reading e-mail, the word "unread" in front of a message takes
up half the Braille real estate on the display. However, this little device
works beautifully with the phone and has what they call a joy stick, with
which you can swipe between items and double-tap to select something. I like
mine a lot. You do have to have the Brailliant turned on before you boot up
the phone, and sometimes and connection goes in and out.
I also have a Focus Blue 40 from Freedom Scientific, or whatever they call
themselves these days. I bought this display myself (just under $3000) to
use with my computer when my old Alva Satellite went off to wherever old
devices go. The Focus is a lovely, trim little display which works great
with JAWS, but also pairs with the phone without a hiccup. No joy stick
here, but 40 cells of beautiful Braille.
I also have a BrailleNote Apex, which is supposed to work with the phone,
but I could never get it to pair. You have to enter a PIN, and my lack of
prowess entering numbers on the phone itself meant it always timed out
before I could get it entered. Then you have to restart everything and try
again. Most annoying.
So these are the ones I know about firsthand. Having Braille on the phone
makes a lot of tasks quicker and easier. It ain't always cheap, but to me
Braille is worth it.

Apple Pay Help Please.

2019-08-21 Thread janet gross
Hi Everyone,
I have my Visa credit card linked to Apple Pay, and it has been like that for
several months, but I decided I wanted to add my debit card as well, and that I
did do, and it showed up in Apple Pay for about a week until I tried to use it
in the store, and I couldn't find the debit card in Apple Pay though. I
checked the Payment and Shipping on my phone, it shows my credit card as the
default, but doesn't show my debit card like it used to, so I tap on add
payment method to see if I need to add it again, but even though, it shows up
only in the wallet, it shows as unchecked, so I tap on it to check it, and I
press the done button, and once again, I look at the debit card, and sure
enough it is once again showing up as unchecked. I also had Apple Cash set up,
and now it is also showing up as unchecked, and if I tap on it, and press the
done button, and check it again, it is showing up as unchecked. I would like
my debit and my credit card to show up in the Apple Pay screen so when I make a
purchase, I can choose witch card I want to use. My face id also doesn't work
when I use Apple Pay. Although, I do have face id turned on for Apple Pay.
Any Thoughts?
I am using Xr iPhone with the latest iOS.

Hi Janet,

Find the app on your iPhone and uninstall it and reinstall it. You can look up
on the App Store to see if it has a watch app to go with the app on your phone.
Without knowing which you are speaking of, I can’t tell you too much more.

Not as yet. We were discussing this the other day and many of us were going to

Video Doorbell 2

  Hi David:

When you get the notification that there is someone at the door, you should
be able to open the ring app by double tapping on the notification. It takes a
few seconds for the app to open, then the buttons you need to talk to the
person at the door are along the top left edge of the phone.

You just have to practice running your finger down the left edge to the ‘end
call’ and ‘accept call’ buttons. The ‘end call’ button is above the ‘accept
call’ button. Voice over will announce them when you find them, but you can
not find them by swiping.

As you say, the app is not very accessible, but with practice you can manage
it.

I found that having an echo spot or echo show is faster than the app. When
you set the echo up to ‘talk to the front door, or whatever you name it, it
will open two way communication to the person at the door. Then you can talk
to the person through the echo device.

  Good luck!

always to try just one more time."

Re: Help with the setting

2019-08-21 Thread Michael Feir
I believe you want to turn offf the click that VoiceOver makes rather than
the key click sound when you type a key. Currently, this sound cannot be
disabled individually. You could disable the entire set of VoiceOver sound
cues. If this is what you want to do:
1. Go to settings, general, accessibility, voiceover.
2. Once you're in VoiceOver settings, , flick right until you reach "audio"
and double-tap this to enter the audio settings.
3. Flick right until you come to "mute sound effects" and double-tap this
so it's set to on. At that point the sound cues which are part of VoiceOver
will be muted.

An easier way is to add "sounds" to your VoiceOver rotor. Once that's done,
you simply turn the rotor to the "sounds" option and flick up or down to
toggle the sounds on or offf. Again, go to VoiceOver settings and then find
the "rotor options". There are a great many things you can do very quickly
once you've mastered the rotor. Hope this helps.

Re: Got all my favorites up on iHeartRadio

2019-08-21 Thread Duane Steele
That's very good news about iHeart Radio. But the APP is still only marginally
accessible, and I too have written in the APP store to tell them so. TuneIn's
much more accessible. I love their sports coverage. But TuneIn canceled
several stations that mover to iHeart. I suspect TuneIn's going in the
direction of being mostly news, talk and sports, and, of course, podcasts.
Just an observation.

Re: Apple Cash card?

2019-08-21 Thread Mary Otten
Thanks, Ed. It seems rather strange that voiceover would lose focus in this
Apple app. I will try that double tap thing when I get home and have access to
my relevant information about my bank account. How very odd that you would have
to do at work around. I hope you reported it to Apple accessibility. If I
actually get it to work, using that method that you said were you just double
tap on something doesn’t have focus I will definitely be reporting to Apple
accessibility.

Re: Braille Keyboards & Displays with iDevices

2019-08-21 Thread Susie Stageberg
Bill,

I have experience with three Braille devices and my iPhone. I bought a
BrailleMe from National Braille Press, but could never get it to pair with the
phone. It's a cute little device and the price, well, ya gotta love it ($500 or
so). Except that mine refused to play with the phone. So it went back to Boston.
I now use a Brailliant BI14 from Humanware. Cost was about $1000. 14 cells
are fewer than you'd think, which means you do a lot of panning. For instance,
when reading e-mail, the word "unread" in front of a message takes up half the
Braille real estate on the display. However, this little device works
beautifully with the phone and has what they call a joy stick, with which you
can swipe between items and double-tap to select something. I like mine a lot.
You do have to have the Brailliant turned on before you boot up the phone, and
sometimes and connection goes in and out.
I also have a Focus Blue 40 from Freedom Scientific, or whatever they call
themselves these days. I bought this display myself (just under $3000) to use
with my computer when my old Alva Satellite went off to wherever old devices
go. The Focus is a lovely, trim little display which works great with JAWS, but
also pairs with the phone without a hiccup. No joy stick here, but 40 cells of
beautiful Braille.
I also have a BrailleNote Apex, which is supposed to work with the phone, but
I could never get it to pair. You have to enter a PIN, and my lack of prowess
entering numbers on the phone itself meant it always timed out before I could
get it entered. Then you have to restart everything and try again. Most
annoying.
So these are the ones I know about firsthand. Having Braille on the phone
makes a lot of tasks quicker and easier. It ain't always cheap, but to me
Braille is worth it.

Re: Braille Keyboards & Displays with iDevices

2019-08-21 Thread kitty hevener
I currently use polaris with iphone SE. Found pairing to be pretty easy.
However, it seems like I have to pair it every time as the connections from
previous pairing never work. This could be an operator error, but it has been
my issue. I did see a friend using the latest generation small focus braille
display and it seemed to work great. Connecting to her phone via bluetooth was
very quick.

yes, the Braille Edge was a great device. Too bad they have moved on to the
QBraille, which has the potential of being a great device but has issues when
trying to use it with more than one device or via bluetooth with a computer.
If the Braille Edge is still available, it is a good choice for around $2800 to
$3000.

Hims Inc. also offers some great Braille displays. I have the BrailleEdge

company stands behind its products, offering quick turn-around time if the
machine needs servicing. I think that's a crucial point. Someone told me that
the Braille Me, offered by National Braille Press is inexpensive, but repair is
hard to get. I'll also say that using a Braille device with an iPhone allows
you to find things and perform functions on your phone quickly.

The Orbit Reader 20, about $600 from Orbit Research.

'Focus 40 5th Generation from Freedom Scientific, around $3000. Can connect

The BrailleMe is another small display for under $500, I think from
Perkins, but someone will correct that.
Humanware makes a couple the Brailliant BI 14 and 32 cell models.

Hi Janet,

Maybe you should reinstall the app on your phone? Not sure why it would show on
your phone but now on your watch. Are you sure that this particular app has a

Re: Braille Keyboards & Displays with iDevices

2019-08-21 Thread Richard Turner
yes, the Braille Edge was a great device. Too bad they have moved on to the
QBraille, which has the potential of being a great device but has issues when
trying to use it with more than one device or via bluetooth with a computer.
If the Braille Edge is still available, it is a good choice for around $2800 to
$3000.

'Focus 40 5th Generation from Freedom Scientific, around $3000. Can connect to

The BrailleMe is another small display for under $500, I think from Perkins,

Humanware makes a couple the Brailliant BI 14 and 32 cell models.

Re: Twitter

2019-08-21 Thread Ed Worrell
Hello,

Yes, there are two ways to accomplish this. I am assuming that you have more
than one account set up.

First way:
1. Open the user profile menu in the top left corner of the app.
2. The first thing that should be presented is a list of your accounts. I
believe it will show something like the first three most visited accounts you
use. Just tap on the one you would like to open. If you have more than three
accounts you can tap on the more accounts button below the list of accounts.
3. This will open the accounts list. This will contain the list of all your
Twitter accounts, an edit button and the add account button.

Second way:
1. Find the Profile account button in the top left corner of the app.
2. Double tap and hold on the button and it will open the accounts screen and
you will be presented with the accounts screen with all of your logged in
accounts and both the edits and add new account button.

I hope this helps,

Ed W.

Re: Apple Cash card?

2019-08-21 Thread Ed Worrell
Hey Mary,

Yes I have set this up. I had no issues with the process. If you follow the
instructions you will have to put in your last four digits of your social
security number, and your banks routing number. As well as the account number.

I have found that some of these screens need you to tap in the middle of the
screen for VoiceOver to focus on the content. It seems that VO doesn’t refresh
when the new page/screen loads.

I wish I could be of more assistance.

Braille Keyboards & Displays with iDevices

2019-08-21 Thread 'Bill Gallik' via VIPhone
 Good Morning All,

A friend is looking to update his technology and is considering an iPhone, iPad
or iPod for his personal needs. However, he insists that he must have Braille
I/O capabilities. To this end, I have several questions:

- Who sells Braille keyboards and displays that are compatible with iDevices?

- If you can, please give some evaluation as to quality of such items (per
model please).

Wrote I heart radio about the problems

2019-08-21 Thread Kathy Brandt
Really hope they fix soon! Their support page was interesting, in that there
was provision to submit a file or attachment, but could only write in the
description field, which I thought initially would have been like the subject
field, but whatever. I also submitted rating and review to the App Store, and
sent a Twitter DM. Would be good if others did likewise.

Re: What 3words, The app that can save your life

2019-08-21 Thread 'Bill Gallik' via VIPhone
Just my 2 cents worth here; if the location desired is in a city then it is
true that a “citified address” will probably be quite suitable.

However, I live in an extremely sparsely populated area in northern Wisconsin
and it does seem that pin-pointing one’s location with “What3Words” would have
an advantage in such circumstances.

There are square miles between where I live on U.S. Highway 2 and the south
shore of Lake Superior where the only description you couold offer emergency
help is “a few miles from Firelane 236 on Firelane 419.” If immediate help is
needed, I’m afraid directions like that just might not cut it. And this is in
a relatively domesticated state; imagine how helpful this might be in Montana,
Idaho, New Mexico, etc.

And I realize that wandering out in such wild regions will likely render a
smart phone useless, but do the satellite phones offer such favors?

Hi to all, voice dream and zipped files in dropbox are working at least for now

2019-08-21 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Hi to all. I called a friend of mine and he suggested some
experiments I could do with trying to use different zip programs and
adding the files to dropbox. I don't know what happened, but I can
use 7zip which is my default zip program to make zipped files of audio
books and once they are uploaded to dropbox, seem to work just fine in
voice dream reader. This is so cool. I've been watching described
movies that I had put individual mp3 files
of a few movies and they play fine with this app. I have just
finished watching The Exorcist as well as a couple Clint Eastwood
Westerns that weren't to bad. Deleting my individual mp3 files or
zipped files from the app is pretty easy as well. I don't know at
this time if I'll get voice dream scanner or not, but I have heard
good things about that app as well.
