Re: IOS 13.3 bug

2019-10-22 Thread Christopher Chaltain
It hasn't. 13.1.3 is out now and 13.2 should be out next week. The
reference to 13.3 was obviously a typo.

Re: Twitterrific's Contex menu New Tweet item

2019-10-22 Thread Christina
Oh, I see now, you’re talking about from the home screen, not within the app.
I’ll experiment and see if I am having the same problem. What about if you
swipe up until you hear context menu? Does that work more reliably?

RE: Media Playback Automatically Resumes when Headset or Bluetooth Device Connected to iOS 13.x with or without Voiceover

2019-10-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I just tried your second scenario with my iPhone 8 which is on 13.1.3 and I
can't reproduce this.
I tried it with Audible as well as with the music app, exactly reproduced your
steps and after 20 minutes each time playback did not resume.

Subject: Media Playback Automatically Resumes when Headset or Bluetooth Device
Connected to iOS 13.x with or without VoiceOver

Hello All,

I will attempt to be as succinct as possible:

Scenario 1:
1.
Enter vehicle,.
2.
Connect iOS 13.x device to car stereo system via Bluetooth. VoiceOver has
never been enabled on this particular iOS 13.x device at any time during its
history.
3.
Open media playback app such as Apple Music, Apple Books, Audible, etc.
4.
Begin playback.
5.
Stop playback and lock iOS 13.x device.
6.
In less than 10 minutes or so, media playback automatically resumes.

Scenario 2:
1.
Enable VoiceOver on iOS 13.x device.
2.
Connect included wired Apple EarPods to iOS 13.x device.
3.
Open media playback app such as BARD Mobile, Apple Music, Audible, etc.
4.
Begin playback.
5.
Stop playback and lock iOS 13.x device.
6.
In less than 10 minutes or so, media playback automatically resumes.

The only way I have found to prevent this automatic resumption of playback is
to disconnect the included wired Apple EarPods from my iOS 13.x device.

I believe this subject has been discussed, on-list, but cannot be certain so
thought I would post. This is an extremely annoying bug that, for the first
time in my experience, is not limited to those of us using VoiceOver.

All replies greatly appreciated.

Mark

Facebook

2019-10-22 Thread 'deidre muccio' via VIPhone
Hello all
In the last day I managed to upload some photos to Facebook using my PC. Now
when I go back to either albums I created or ones that have been there for
awhile, the individual pictures won't show. It may say Timeline Photos and
how many pictures are in there, or the name of a photo album, but when I hit
on that or "see all photos" I am not in the usual area where there is the
picture, a place for the caption, comments on the photos, and a next and
previous buttons.
Using the Facebook App with voice over I can select a particular Tab such as
Albums or Uploads but only one picture is described. If I tap on it it will
open with whatever information is associated with it. From there it will say
1 of 11 photos but I don't know how to get to the next picture. Does anyone
know?
I'll look again for a setting on my phone for preferences having to
pictures and videos, but when I did that yesterday, I didn't see anything
that would be useful for accessing them or changing the privacy setting for
my photos.
I am hoping not to have to employ more sighted help.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help that is well versed in the
part of their profile page that has all their photos.

Deidre

instant pot wifi app

2019-10-22 Thread Vicki W.
I downloaded what I was told was the wifi app for my wifi instant pot, but when
I went to register and set it up, it asked to connect via blue tooth, not wifi.
I can't find an app which says wifi for the instant pot, so what is the wifi
version called in the app store?

Re: 1Password or LastPass?

2019-10-22 Thread Matthew Bullis
Is there anything you wouldn't use this program for? Would you use this to
create your Apple id password? That is about the only thing that I would say
you might not want to use this for, since you probably couldn't get to the
password field before you needed to log in.

There is a subscription cost for 1Password, but it is to be able to access your
passwords across several operating systems. At one time, there was a $10 US
in-app purchase within the app which offers more categories, such as driver's
license, wireless routers, and others.
That is a 1 time purchase. I haven't bothered with the subscription since I
only use it on my iPhone. If I want to get a password on my Window computer, I
will copy it from the phone. I have gotten the in-app purchase and have found
it helpful. It can take a while to set up all of the passwords and other
information in 1Password, but it is well worth it and totally accessible. For
my limited use, I haven't come across any accessibility issues. The in-app
purchase also lets you set up multiple password vaults, which could be for
home, work, etc.

As far as pricing... Well, in my opinion, I don't find it to be hefty

Subject: 1Password or LastPass?

Which of these two apps does everyone prefer? I’ve heard great things
about 1Password, but it looks like there’s a hefty subscription fee
which I’m not crazy about.

I also would go for 1Password. I don't pay for it. I just use it on my iPhone.

Re: Twitterrific's Contex menu New Tweet item

2019-10-22 Thread Ed Worrell
Hello,

I think I understand what you are talking about. If you double tap and hold on
the Twitterrific icon on the home screen you are presented with the context
menu.

I too am seeing the same issues. This might be an iOS issue and not with
Twitterrific. I find if you double tap and hold on the icon instead of simply
double tapping and holding anywhere on the screen after the name is announced
it works more reliably.

Ok, thank you!

I will give it a try again.

I hope it comes back!

Did you also turn the volume up all the way?

Either way, if it doesn't come back, plug it in to power and see if it comes on.

I have had it happen where I held the button too long and it powered off.

But the timing is also important.

Fairly quickly press and release the volume up, then press and release the
volume down, then hold in the power/side switch for 10 or 12 seconds.

Like I said, if you have earphones in, you may hear a faint click.

If all else fails, you may need to get sighted help to confirm if it is on and
silent or just off.

Yes, I also noticed that faint click when a headset is connected, but on my

I think 12 is a safe bet and not so long that it interferes with the phone
restarting.

When I tried to do the hard reset, it’s not working on my 8 at all.

And I might need to take it down to t-mobile again.

Is there a way for accessibility to take a look?

I didn’t have any headphones connected.

I'm fairly sure the X phones and 11's use the same steps as the 8, but
someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

In my experience it only takes 6 to 8 seconds. If you have an earphone in,
you can hear a faint click when it reboots.

Should I get a sighted person to do a had reset?
It's the same bug where you end a call and voice over goes away so does

How do I reboot the phone again?

version of 13.1, I think it was 13.1.2 but I’m not sure. I have not experienced

Additionally you can put the app on your Apple watch and then bring over things

I would say the biggest problem I see is not being able to route the
cursor using my braille display. Now, I always have to use VO to make
sure that it is on the correct line; then I can route the cursor. But
it's a royal pain.

I recommend a hard reset, but it depends on your device as to how you
accomplish it.
On the iPhone 6S and prior you push and hold the home button and side button
simultaneously for about 12 seconds.
On the iPhone 8 you push volume up, then volume down and then push and hold the
side button for about 12 seconds.
Not sure how it works on the iPhone X, XR/XS and 11/11S

Either way, if it doesn't come back, plug it in to power and see if it comes
on.

HTH,

I'm fairly sure the X phones and 11's use the same steps as the 8, but
someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

In my experience it only takes 6 to 8 seconds. If you have an earphone

When I tried to do the hard reset, it’s not working on my 8 at all.

And I might need to take it down to t-mobile again.

Is there a way for accessibility to take a look?

I didn’t have any headphones connected.

I'm fairly sure the X phones and 11's use the same steps as the 8, but someone
will correct me if I'm wrong.

In my experience it only takes 6 to 8 seconds. If you have an earphone in, you
can hear a faint click when it reboots.

Not sure how it works on the iPhone X, XR/XS and 11/11S

Should I get a sighted person to do a had reset?
It's the same bug where you end a call and voice over goes away so does

How do I reboot the phone again?
I only feel vibrations again.

I actually haven’t used it since I updated my XR. Now I’m going to have to give
it a spin.

On a side note, it looks like the Instant Pot app had an update today. For
connectivity issues with the smart wifi model and “other improvements”.
Whatever that means.

Perhaps owners of the wifi model can try it out and report back as well.

Re: 1Password or LastPass?

2019-10-22 Thread Wayne Merritt
There is a subscription cost for 1Password, but it is to be able to
access your passwords across several operating systems. At one time,
there was a $10 US in-app purchase within the app which offers more
categories, such as driver's license, wireless routers, and others.
That is a 1 time purchase. I haven't bothered with the subscription
since I only use it on my iPhone. If I want to get a password on my
Window computer, I will copy it from the phone. I have gotten the
in-app purchase and have found it helpful. It can take a while to set
up all of the passwords and other information in 1Password, but it is
well worth it and totally accessible. For my limited use, I haven't
come across any accessibility issues. The in-app purchase also lets
you set up multiple password vaults, which could be for home, work,
etc.

  Hi Duane and All,
Duane you didn’t do anything wrong, as the exact samething happened to me
just last Sunday, even though, I have my auto download set to off. When I
turned on my XR phone with iOS 12.4.1, the update 13 .1.2 was downloading, and
I had no option to cancel. I turned the phone off, and waited, and turned it
back on, but still the update was downloading! I was furious! I think this is
very unfair that Apple would do this, and as far as I am concerned, this should

Hopefully someone will chime in on my question. After the download, a few days

It is a little over 2 gigs! So next time we think about buying an iPhone, we
might have to pay more money to get more space on our phones! If someone
doesn’t want the newest update, that should be their right, so please people
try and understand some people just don’t ask for trouble! Now, I’m sure Apple
had good intentions when releasing an update, but it doesn’t always work that
way, and I’m sure Apple knows that! Doesn’t the Apple baiter testers give
their findings to Apple before Apple actually releases the update? Doesn’t
Apple listen to their baiter testers? When I have a problem with my phone after
an update, and I call Apple, they can only give me a workaround if they have
one, so the main problem is not corrected!
Yes, I know some people might not be experiencing the same phone issues after
the update, and that seems to be a little odd!

absolutely.

If you accidentally tap on the incorrect button, it will update over night.

I think it's always better, to delete the downloaded update.

Hi Josh,
When I got my first iPhone, and when I got a notification I had an update, I
tapped on the later option, and sure enough the phone did download the very
next time I turned on my phone! My point, be very careful if you don't want
to update right now, about the later option though.

I'll delete my update again. I think 2 gigs for an update is rather
large myself. I just always go to not now, and remind me later.
Hopefully, my phone won't update by itself.

Hi You can remove the downloaded update, by going into settings, general,
and swiping to iPhone storage.

There you will find the iOS 13 update. Just double tap on it, and you will
have the option to delete it.

It will download again at some point. But just keep deleting it.

Dave.

Media Playback Automatically Resumes when Headset or Bluetooth Device Connected to iOS 13.x with or without VoiceOver

2019-10-22 Thread M. Taylor

The only way I have found to prevent this automatic resumption of playback
is to disconnect the included wired Apple EarPods from my iOS 13.x device.

I believe this subject has been discussed, on-list, but cannot be certain so
thought I would post. This is an extremely annoying bug that, for the first
time in my experience, is not limited to those of us using VoiceOver.

All replies greatly appreciated.

Mark

Re: Voicedream reader, and folders

2019-10-22 Thread Richard Turner
There is no quick answer to your question.
Do you know how to use the Filter by that is next to the Add button?
If you have real folders in VDR, you first would double tap on the filters,
then the by folder, then the folder you want.
If your files are in that folder, you will see them there and no other files.
If you have individual files, and they are alphabetically in order, and you
have it set to automatically move to the next file, then they will play one
after the other.
That is why with audio files, it is best to have them in a zip file and make
sure they are labelled correctly.
Then it will treat them as a book, and each file as a chapter.

Hi Terri,

To see only the files in a particular folder, choose Filter, and then choose
folder, then the folder you want. You can set voice dream Reader to start
playing the next file automatically when it finishes the first one. To do that,
open a file, and then double-tap the Controls button. Double-tap Reading Mode,
and then double-tap Stop at End of Document.

Voicedream reader, and folders

2019-10-22 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I have a quick question about VoiceDream reader, and folders.

First of all, I use this App all the time, and love it! I use it a lot
for importing my audiobooks from Dropbox, in to the App. This way if the
files are not unzipped, I can still enjoy them.

However, a lot of my files are unzipped. Some are even in folders. I've
noticed twice now when I have imported a file, that I have had problems.
I kept getting a folder empty message.

So I ended up uploading all 8 files of the book, individually. Then I
created a folder within Voicedream. I can see all the files, but they
are all listed with my other files. I can't seem to see the folder I
created. And even though I sent the files to the folder, I can't seem to
figure out if they are in there.

Have I possibly done something wrong?

Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Also, if I have files in a folder, will they play 1 right after the other?

Any help would be wonderful!

Thank you,

Terri

Subject: Need to Create Group for Texting

Hi All,

I used to have an app on my phone that I used to send group texts. It was very
easy to use. It appears that I must have deleted it as I can’t find it & of
course can’t remember the name. So first, can anyone recommend an ap for
texting a group that is accessible & easy to use.

I noticed in my contacts that I have a group set up called cousins. I figured
out how to bring up a list of people in the group but not how to add someone.
When I click on add it just says new contact. Isn’t there some way to select
people to add to the group from my contacts list? And when I tried to tell
Siri to send a message to this group, she doesn’t know what I’m talking about.

I’d like to do whatever is fastest as we have someone in the hospital & I’d
like to be able to send out a group message with updates.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi Josh,
When I got my first iPhone, and when I got a notification I had an update, I
tapped on the later option, and sure enough the phone did download the very
next time I turned on my phone! My point, be very careful if you don't want to
update right now, about the later option though.

I'll delete my update again. I think 2 gigs for an update is rather
large myself. I just always go to not now, and remind me later.
Hopefully, my phone won't update by itself.

Dwayne,
Did you find the place in the VoiceOver braille settings where you can adjust
which braille table is being used?
And, no one can easily get to the status bar with any keyboard.
You just have to touch the screen until they fix it.

Hi Duane and All,
Duane you didn’t do anything wrong, as the exact samething happened to me just

Hello iPhone Friends,

Some of you reading this note will suppose that perhaps I'd done something
wrong in the settings on my iPhone 8. With all the recent flack I'd read and
heard about iOS 13, I had decided to wait awhile before updating. I checked my
settings to ensure that the automatic update feature had been turned off. You
can now guess where this is going. I awoke this morning and looked at the time

only imagine that, given today's rapid advances in artificial intelligence, my

Hi,
I’m using a Braille Sense U2 with an iphone 8 running IOS 13.1.3 and I’m really
disgusted with how this combination is working, particularly when it comes to
doing any kind of lengthy text editing. Cursor routing becomes erratic.
Voiceover can slow down and crash. It’s just awful. I could go into detail, but
VO will probably give me trouble while I do so. Anybody else out there having
trouble with Braille displays in IOs 13?

Re: I never meant to update.

2019-10-22 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I'll delete my update again. I think 2 gigs for an update is rather
large myself. I just always go to not now, and remind me later.
Hopefully, my phone won't update by itself.

Hi,
I’m using a Braille Sense U2 with an iphone 8 running IOS 13.1.3 and I’m really
disgusted with how this combination is working, particularly when it comes to
doing any kind of lengthy text editing. Cursor routing becomes erratic.
Voiceover can slow down and crash. It’s just awful. I could go into detail, but
VO will probably give me trouble while I do so. Anybody else out there having
trouble with Braille displays in IOs 13?
Tom

Some of you reading this note will suppose that perhaps I'd done something
wrong in the settings on my iPhone 8. With all the recent flack I'd read and
heard about iOS 13, I had decided to wait awhile before updating. I checked my
settings to ensure that the automatic update feature had been turned off. You
can now guess where this is going. I awoke this morning and looked at the time
on my iPhone and discovered it had updated overnight without my consent. I can
only imagine that, given today's rapid advances in artificial intelligence, my
phone made its own decision, and now, I'm stuck with having to reorient myself
to lots of new features I don't know anything about. Is there a reasonable
explanation for why this would have happened. Well, now I'll take up the
challenge and learn to adapt to the update. But I have to wonder why I had no
choice.

Peace & Blessings,
Duane L. Steele

texting a group that is accessible & easy to use.

When I was looking into a PW manager a few years ago, at that time, the general
consensus was that 1Password was more accessible. I don't know if Lastpass has
done anything to make it's service more accessible, but 1Password's been
working fine for me on my iPhone and PCs. They're also pretty responsive to
accessibility concerns and work to address whatever issues may pop up from time

As far as pricing... Well, in my opinion, I don't find it to be hefty for the

I never meant to update.

2019-10-22 Thread Duane Steele
Hello iPhone Friends,

Some of you reading this note will suppose that perhaps I'd done something
wrong in the settings on my iPhone 8. With all the recent flack I'd read and
heard about iOS 13, I had decided to wait awhile before updating. I checked my
settings to ensure that the automatic update feature had been turned off. You
can now guess where this is going. I awoke this morning and looked at the time
on my iPhone and discovered it had updated overnight without my consent. I can
only imagine that, given today's rapid advances in artificial intelligence, my
phone made its own decision, and now, I'm stuck with having to reorient myself
to lots of new features I don't know anything about. Is there a reasonable
explanation for why this would have happened. Well, now I'll take up the
challenge and learn to adapt to the update. But I have to wonder why I had no
choice.

Peace & Blessings,
Duane L. Steele

  Hi All,

I used to have an app on my phone that I used to send group texts. It was
very easy to use. It appears that I must have deleted it as I can’t find it &
of course can’t remember the name. So first, can anyone recommend an ap for
texting a group that is accessible & easy to use.

I noticed in my contacts that I have a group set up called cousins. I
figured out how to bring up a list of people in the group but not how to add
someone. When I click on add it just says new contact. Isn’t there some way
to select people to add to the group from my contacts list? And when I tried
to tell Siri to send a message to this group, she doesn’t know what I’m talking
about.

I’d like to do whatever is fastest as we have someone in the hospital & I’d
like to be able to send out a group message with updates.

  Any help is appreciated!

You don't have to disable "raise to wake" to have the haptic time work properly
.. and you can raise the watch and ask a question .. not sure why others are
saying that you have to disable this. On the haptic time, it does work better
on the newer watches .. but even on my series 3 it would work properly the
majority of the time.

Thanks for the thoughts. My sighted coworker is singing the praises of Apple
watch. Part of what makes it such a hit in her world is the raise to wake
feature and then being able to immediately ask a question hand free. Sounds
like that is out the window for Voiceover users, but maybe we have some fun
features, too. I'll read the AppleVis articles I can find and go into the
Apple store to see one in action. Good to know that the processor speed is
significantly better on the newer ones. I will avoid the earlier editions.

I don't like my Apple watch because it doesn't reliably tell the time without
speaking. It may be operator error, but I have tried repeatedly to make haptic
time work ... and sometimes it does. However, often the watch speaks the time
instead of vibrating it. I sometimes wear my Seiko Braille watch because I can
count on it to be silent. and my phone gives me all the messages and news
headlines that I want. One setting I have enabled is supposed to make the
watch stop talking when you place your palm over it. Mine seems to feel it has
to finish the thought before it will stop, palm over or not.

However. The Apple watch includes exercise goal setting that I don't have
otherwise--how many hours I stood for at least a minute, how many minutes I
actually exercised ... current heart rate, heart rate min and max at six hour
intervals. I'm old, so I like to track that once in a while.
