RE: Exercise bikes

2020-07-29 Thread Simon A Fogarty
If you have lots of money to spend,

There is a range of cycle machines that utilise real bikes and also use iPads
to allow the riders to cycle virtually with each other through the app on the
ipad,

They have just done this with the Tour de France this year due to covid,

Very very coold systems but not cheap.

Caveats of levels of accessibility apply and all that.
Like anything, just depends on how much you want to spend.
I've got a Nautilus treadmill which has an iOS app. The app is completely VO
accessible, but it's only for reviewing workout stats. They also make a line of
exercise bikes which I'm sure has a similar app set up. If you're looking for
something where you can control or choose a program from within the app, that,
I'm not aware of. If there is a bike like that out there, I'd be interested in
knowing. We've got an old Schwinn recumbent model which works well enough, but
I'd probably want to go for something similar to the Nautilus where I can at
least review my numbers.
Good luck.

Then your looking in the wrong places,

I've seen them here in NZ for around the 2 grand mark but that was a higher end
device,

It really does depend on what it is you are trying to do.

The other thing is you can use a standard bicycle on a cycle erg, So you can
get them so you sit the back wheel on the roller and the wheel is locked in to
place and use the gearing on the bike to change your resistance levels, And
there are some which have resistance on the roller as well.

Or you can get the ergs that you take the front wheel off and lock the forks
on to a bracket that holds the front in place while again the back wheel sits
on a roller and spins as you pedal.

But yes if you have an apple watch it can give you HR and time etc measurements
But you can also get caidence / speed computers that cost very little but have
to be put on the bikes to measue what speed and distances you are cycling.

I have my own road bike on a cycle erg that the back wheel locks in to and I
use gears for resistance, I have my apple watch to measure some things and a
caidance meter to measure speed and RPM from the back wheel, these are fed
into an app on my phone which is from a company called wahoo, and that also
talks to my HR monitor which is again a wahoo device and gives a better reading
than the watch does,

it really depends on what you wantto spend or do as to what it costs you.

When I cycle I take it pretty seriously, but that's just because it's something
I've done for years.

Yes, some bikes keep track of a virtual distance, but who really cares if the
bike says you biked 6 miles or 10 miles, I am after a good workout and for that
my heart rate and calories burned are more important. I don't know how much you

spend that money on an Apple Watch which you can use for any type of workout

RE: Looking for an accessory

2020-07-29 Thread Simon A Fogarty
In my book the best option is Bluetooth for your headphones and then charge
your phone as normal using the lightening cab;e.

Or I believe there is a device from belken I think called the Rockstar that has
2 parts to it,
3.5mm jack and the lightening cable and a lightening plug input to the phone /
tablet you wish to charge.

Since my new iPhone S E 2020 has no headphone jack, please assist me in
locating that device which has a headphone jack and a lightning plug so one can
charge the phone while listening to it. What does it cost? Where do I get it?
And, approximately what should I be willing to pay for it?

Thanks much.

Hello again, iPhone listers,

The issue of phone brightness was covered recently, and I supposed it was
resolved. Today, my phone has been used normally. But suddenly, halfway through
my day, I'm informed that my battery's down to 20 percent. How could that be?
Well, I went to the control center and discovered that brightness is at the
amazing high point of 100 percent, and I have to wonder, when it's set at zero,
how did it increase without my adjusting it manually? It's moving around
without any help from me. Just thought I'd share that in case anyone has any
suggestions that haven't been tried before.

Hi,

One thing he can do is call and when he gets the voicemail, he should be able

Voice Mail Question Please.

2020-07-29 Thread janet gross
Hi Everyone,
Since I downloaded iOS 13.6 on my xr phone, a couple of weeks ago, When ever I
attempt to listen to a voice mail message, voice over completely stops talking,
I sometimes do get to hear the voice mail message, but I can't hear anything
else. I can't swipe up to close the phone app, I can't turn the phone off, I
do feel some kind of vibration on the back of the phone though, and this goes
on for several minutes, until all the sudden, voice over comes back on. Any
help in this will be greatly appreciated.
Janet

Query re unexpectedly high home and locked screen and battery use on my new IPhone SE2020 - any advice appreciated

2020-07-29 Thread 'Eleanor Roberts' via VIPhone
Hi all

Hoping someone may be able to assist with this. Over the last couple of months
I’ve been noticing unusually fast battery drain, both on my new IPhone SE2020,
and also on my old IPhone 8. If it was just the IPhone 8 I might not be so
bothered as it’s an older device, but I can’t understand the new SE doing/being
the same. What has particularly surprised me is how high my home and locked
screen use appears to be. Have never had this problem before. Have checked all
the settings that are suggested on the internet to prolong battery life, and
they all appear to be as they should be.

So if anyone has any ideas as to how I can increase the amount of time my
battery lasts, and, particularly, how I can get this stupid home and locked
screen usage value reduced from the stupidly high value it says it is at the
moment I’d be really really grateful!!

Thanks in advance.

Eleanor

RE: Zoom with sarafiSafari

2020-07-29 Thread Laury, Shawnese (LEO)
Hello I find that it is easier to use shortcut keys.

Using the Zoom Cloud Platform
Overview
The Zoom Cloud program provides an exceptional platform for attending
educational classes, meetings, , etc.workshops without the difficulty of
travel. It can be used on a variety of devices such as a mobile phone, tablet,
computer, or a landline. These devices should have a built-in Microphone or
external microphone for audio input and speakers for audio output.
Questions and Answers
Typed Questions
1. Use the key commands listed below to move to the Chat area.
2. Press Shift + Tab two times to go to the “To” area.
3. Press the spacebar to open the combo box.
4. Select the Name of the moderator from the menu.
5. Your questions will now only be seen by the host and Jaws will not
announce your question.
Keystrokes
Windows:
1. Unmute or mute audio: Alt + A.
2. Raise and lower hand: Alt + Y.
3. Move through Zoom windows: F6.
4. Enter or exit full screen: Alt + F and escape, respectively.
5. Show or hide chat area: Alt + H and escape, respectively.
6. Display or hide participants list: Alt + U.
Mac:
1. Unmute or mute audio: Command + Shift+ A
2. Raise and lower hand: Option + Y
3. Enter or exit full screen: Command + Shift + F.
4. Show or hide chat area: Command + Shift+ H.
5. Display or hide participants list: Command + U.
Joining the Meeting:
You will receive an email with an invitation to join a Zoom Meeting. There
will be several choices for the meeting. The most accessible method is to
choose the URL link. The following instructions will show the processes for a
computer or iOS device when using Zoom for the first time.
Computer:
1. In the email message, select the URL link.
2. If using Internet Explorer, the focus will be on the Launch Zoom
control. Press Alt + R to run the program.
3. Other browsers may download the app to the Download folder from which
the program can be accessed.
4. A webpage opens with the focus on an edit box that will allow for the
user to enter a name for the meeting.
5. Press Tab, and you can then choose to have your name remembered for
future meetings.
6. Tab to the Join the Meeting control and select it.
7. Choose the option to use computer audio.
8. You will then be in your meeting.
iOS:
1. It is suggested that the app be downloaded before the meeting.
a. Go to the App store and search for Zoom.
b. Download the Zoom Cloud Meeting app and follow instructions to enable
it.
2. From the email, select the URL link.
3. A dialog box opens asking if you would like to join via Zoom.
4. Select open which will open several dialog boxes that, once chosen,
will be defaulted to in any future meetings.
5. A dialog opens asking for permission to use audio, which should be
allowed.
6. Another choice is to use Internet calling, which should be chosen for
better audio quality.
7. The meeting is now joined.

RE: Looking for accessible bathroom scales

2020-07-29 Thread Simon A Fogarty
I’d forget the BMI measurements as BMI can be an incorrect measuring unit.

Someone who is 6 foot 2 and 200 pounds professional sports person can be over
weight under the BMI measurements
As could a 10 year old child who is taller than the average for the age group.

Unsure the accuracy of the Cardio scale I have, although the consistency is
definitely there. I don’t mind if my scale is consistently inaccurate by plus
.4 pounds because it’ll still track the overall trajectory of my weight gains
and losses. I definitely don’t think the body fat percentage measurement on my
scale is accurate nor is the BMI, but the weight seems spot on and for my
weight dependent competitions, it’s never let me down.

Curious if anyone on this list has tried the Wyze scale though. Definitely a
more affordable option.

All best,

Hello all,

I am sorry if this question has been asked multiple times, I did not follow the
thread, because I did not need it.

Please, would anyone recommend bathroom scales with Voiceover accessible app?

Thank you very much in advance.

Welcome to the joys of a new phone.

I had to reset all settings, which ends up that you have to re-login to pretty
much everything, but that fixed it for me.

You may want to ask Apple Accessibility to do a screen share and run the
diagnostics in case you happen to have a bad WiFi antenna in your phone, but
that is unlikely.

Brightness issue returns

2020-07-29 Thread Duane Steele
Hello again, iPhone listers,

The issue of phone brightness was covered recently, and I supposed it was
resolved. Today, my phone has been used normally. But suddenly, halfway through
my day, I'm informed that my battery's down to 20 percent. How could that be?
Well, I went to the control center and discovered that brightness is at the
amazing high point of 100 percent, and I have to wonder, when it's set at zero,
how did it increase without my adjusting it manually? It's moving around
without any help from me. Just thought I'd share that in case anyone has any
suggestions that haven't been tried before.

Peace & Blessings,

Good afternoon everyone! Can anyone tell me how to block unwanted text

be most helpful! Thanks in advance!

Here’s what I did that finally worked. I double-tapped the number or name
at the top of the message from whom the message was sent. Then, I scrolled
to the info button and double-tapped on it. There I got to a details screen
where I once again double-tapped on the name or number of the person I
wanted
to block. This opened up a screen in my contacts list, probably the same
one found under recents. I scrolled down to the bottom of the screen and
found
the block caller option. I double-tapped on that and then double-tapped in
the appropriate place to confirm that I wanted to block the caller. I
understand
we’re talking about text messages here, but when you get to that screen it
says Block This Caller. Hope this helps!

Hi All,

How do you block text messages from people that are not listed in your
contacts? For example, you just receive a text from 123-456-7890.

Re: Blocking Text Messages

2020-07-29 Thread Dave Clement
Ref: IOS 13.x

There is a feature in the Messages app to "filter unknown senders" that
proportedly stops notifications of such texts and "sorts them into a separate
list" but I have not used this feature. This could minimize the interruptions
from texts from unknown senders, unknown meaning the numbers are not in your
Contact list. However, it does not look as though the texts are actually
prevented from arriving.

To explore this feature go to:
Settings / Messages / Filter and block

Another possibility: It is possible to "silence unknown callers" in the Phone
app which I think also may prevent texts from unknown numbers, I'm not 100%
certain here.

To silence unknown callers, go to:
Settings / phone / Silence unknown callers
While this does not stop a call from an unknown number, it prevents any calls
from numbers not in your Contacts from ringing. It will instead route them to
your Voice Mail and record them in your "recent / missed" list.

If anyone knows for certain if Silencing also affects text messages, please let
us know. Thanks.

And, as Richard has already mentioned, you can always block an unknown text
sender after receiving such a text.

I’m not sure if they’ve improved with firmware updates or newer hardware, but I
don’t find my original FitBit Aria to be all that accurate. It’s not a big deal

Re: Looking for accessible bathroom scales

2020-07-29 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Unsure the accuracy of the Cardio scale I have, although the consistency is
definitely there. I don’t mind if my scale is consistently inaccurate by plus
.4 pounds because it’ll still track the overall trajectory of my weight gains
and losses. I definitely don’t think the body fat percentage measurement on my
scale is accurate nor is the BMI, but the weight seems spot on and for my
weight dependent competitions, it’s never let me down.

Curious if anyone on this list has tried the Wyze scale though. Definitely a
more affordable option.

All best,

RE: Searching for apps in the app store

2020-07-29 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The easiest way to start a search in the app store is to double tap and hold on
the app store icon, from the context menu which pops up select "Search" which
is the first item, this takes you directly to the search tab and puts focus in
the search box.
After you type your search word or term, make sure to tap the "Search" button
on the bottom right of the keyboard, you will get suggestions as you type, but
the best results I often find you get after your tap the search biutton.

Re: Best built-in Application for recording

Hello,
What about the Voice Memos app? Once the person is complete with the
recording, they can tap on the share button and Dropbox should be an
option.

Re: Looking for accessible bathroom scales

2020-07-29 Thread Steve Matzura
How accurate are these scales? I just bought this one

and am not happy with it because it gives me different readings every
timeI step on the thing, even if it's within the same minute. At first I
thought it was how I stepped on the platform, or where I placed my feet,
etc., but it didn't seem to matter. The readings always come up
different. I'm thinking it just isn't a quality measuring device.

If gestures and if you don't mind editing what you paste you can swipe to
the text message, quadruple tap to send it to the clipboard, open the email,
change rotor to edit, swipe up or down 1 finger to 'paste' and double tap.

The one thing about copying text mesages, or forwarding them, for that
matter, that folk need to know is that if the mesage being copied or
forwarded is formatted--that is, if it has line breaks, empty lines,
etc., all of that formatting is lost when the copied message is pasted
into another text message. If there's a way to preserve that formatting,
I'd really love to know how, because I have to forward a lot of text
messages with formatting that lose that formatting when transferred,
rendering them almost unreadable because lines that have hard returns
have lost them.

The qardio base scale is what i have and I love it because it offers haptic
feedback letting you know went to step off the scale.

Wyze recently unveiled their scale for 20 bucks, and I’d be interested in
seeing if that is successful. He certainly can’t beat the price point.

Hi,

The fitbit aria scales were pretty accessible using the fitbit app on my phone,

I'd still be using them if I hadn't broken them By dropping them on concrete

Hello all,
I am sorry if this question has been asked multiple times, I did not follow the
thread, because I did not need it.
Please, would anyone recommend bathroom scales with Voiceover accessible app?
Thank you very much in advance.
Maria
