RE: Home Pod Mini

2020-10-18 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Chris,

I woun’t go for a Home Pod or Mini personally,

I’d look at the Sonos range

But if you don’t want to stream music from a service then any Bluetooth speaker
as Richard said will do the job you require done.

Actually you can subscribe to Tunein Radio at no cost. I just happen to
subscribe to some of the pay services. Right now, I use the Echo speakers and
to Sonos. But now that the Home Pod Mini will be able to offer other services
in addition to Apple Music, it is sounding lik something I would truly like.

Re: a question about copying ringtones to my iPhone, sometimes ringtones won't copy

2020-10-18 Thread Jennie Facer
Hi,

You may try copying only one at a time. Yes, time consuming, but that is what i
have to do. I can’t copy more than one ringtone to my phone at one time. I hope
that helps a little. Not a perfect fix but it may work.

Re: 3rd Party Keyboards

2020-10-18 Thread Chris Chaffin
Hi Richard,

Yes, I have tried a double tap and hold, then dragging up, but it seems not to
be working. couple of times now, I have found MBraille a little to the side or
below the keyboard button, but I do not think it is showing up consistently.

I have also deleted the Flicktype keyboard for now. The MBraille keyboard is
the main one I wanted to check out.

I also restarted my phone to see if that would help. I just did not know if
someone remembered if 3rd party keyboards was having a problem in ios 13.4.1.

Thanks,

Chris

John, if you double tap that box, it does check it, voiceover just doesn’t
announce it.

Hope this helps, and you were able to book your ride

Hi my TV just died so looking to replace it and obviously I know it is more
effective to get a smart TV but just wondering which ones have the easiest to
use and most accessible features in terms of voiceover type settings.
I know some have Roku so wondering if this is accessible.
Also although I am in Canada I have similar cable to the Xfinity service so my
cable box will talk to me so why a TV that it’s easy to use in smart mode and
will speak but then when I wanted to go back to the cable the cable box will
come back on and do what it needs to do.
Thanks for any help.

Using the Uber App. with the iPhone 8

Good afternoon: When trying to get an Uber, I come to a screen after choosing

but, I can't check the box to indicate that I am wearing a face cover or mask.

It also has to be the correct length. For ringtones, I believe that is 40
seconds.

Not sure why it doesn't copy, but just FYI, iPhone ringtones can actually be 40

Hi to all. I'm having a bit of trouble when I try and copy some ringtones to
my iPhone. I know how to copy ringtones.
However, sometimes, the ringtones won't copy to my iPhone. I select the
ringtone I want to copy and hit control c to copy to clipboard then go to the
treview of my ringtones, where I can see all the ringtones I've copied to my
iPhone. I hit control v to paste the ringtone which will be added to the
ringtones on itunes then copy to my iPhone. However, sometimes I just hear
copying and the name of the ringtone I want on my iPhone. I know the time of
the ringtones I want to copy is either 30 seconds the most length a ringtone
can be, or much less then 30 seconds. So I know the time of the ringtone isn't
the issue. Please help. For example, I wanted to copy the retro game musical
tones from Cliff's bunch of ringtones to my iPhone, but when I tried to do it
all I saw on Itunes, was copying then the name of each of the ringtones. None
of them would copy to my iPhone. I also have the latest version of iTunes on
my computer as well. Thanks for any help.

Not sure why it doesn't copy, but just FYI, iPhone ringtones can actually be 40
seconds in length.

Hi to all. I'm having a bit of trouble when I try and copy some ringtones to
my iPhone. I know how to copy ringtones.

RE: opinions on smart TVs with voiceover like accessibility features

2020-10-18 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

I have a 55 inch Toshiba Fire TV. It cost me $350 U.S. in March. It has Voice
View for its screen reader, and is Alexa ready. The external devices, such as
cable boxes hook to it via HDMI, and you can set this TV so you just tell it to
switch to the device you want. I'm very pleased with this TV.

As for Roku, the speech of Voice Guide, its screen reader isn't the best, but
it does work.

Have a blessed day and don't work too hard.

It is a Samsung Series 8 43 inch, it cost about $350 US.
It has self-voicing abilities and you can set up Alexa on it.
It works great as an Airplay device from my iPhone.
We also have Xfinity cable and I can switch between pretty easily.

If I can, I'll find the specific model when my wife gets home if you are
interested.

Subject: opinions on smart TVs with voiceover like accessibility features

Hi my TV just died so looking to replace it and obviously I know it is more
effective to get a smart TV but just wondering which ones have the easiest to
use and most accessible features in terms of voiceover type settings.
I know some have Roku so wondering if this is accessible.
Also although I am in Canada I have similar cable to the Xfinity service so my
cable box will talk to me so why a TV that it’s easy to use in smart mode and
will speak but then when I wanted to go back to the cable the cable box will
come back on and do what it needs to do.
Thanks for any help.

RE: What Apple didn't tell us: Spotty 5G, Mini larger than SE, pricey Max, USA Today

2020-10-18 Thread Simon A Fogarty
It's a great idea for people like Petrus and myself where the phones can be
over 2000 dollars depending on what you get,

 But still it is costly.
Much cheaper than having to purchase a new phone or have insurance replace it.

So that you have changed them in the apple system then all you have done /

I've don’t' this myself a couple of times and it works fine.

This could very well be another Apple feature which even though it may have
been tried before was now refined by Apple and will become a big deal.
Touch Id and face Id are other examples, so is Apple Pay and, for that matter,
the modern smartphone and the App Store in general, all are things Apple either
designed/invented or re-designed/re-invented and made popular.

iPhone 12's MagSafe is the sleeper feature that's a bigger deal than you think,
cNet News
Commentary: The fast-charging feature that snaps into place opens up the
possibility for an array of wild new attachments.

The MagSafe is one of the quietly coolest features on the new iPhone 12.

Apple's unveiling of the iPhone 12 family fittingly shined a spotlight on 5G
-- not a surprise given the amount of hype and investment dollars that have
been poured into the next-generation wireless technology. While 5G continues to
mature into the technological foundation for countless innovations, however,
it's the low-profile MagSafe feature that may offer consumers the most
immediate impact.

It's almost sacrilege for me to write that 5G still needs to time to develop.
After all, I've been covering the potentially game-changing nature of 5G since
2015, when I first wrote about Verizon's intention to field-test the super-fast
cellular technology. But the truth is that initial deployments don't represent
huge boosts in speed.

MagSafe, on the other hand, offers some tangible benefits regardless of where
you live or whether you're near the right cell tower. MagSafe charges faster
than previous iPhones, bringing it on par with the quick charge that Android
phones have long enjoyed. And, as dumb as this sounds, there's something cool
about watching your phone snap into place, visual confirmation that you didn't
fumble the placement of your device.

"There's no more guessing where the sweet spot is," said Ramon Llamas, an
analyst with IDC.
MagSafe has its own long-term potential. The magnetic pins on the back of the
phone harken back to other attempts to push an ecosystem of attachments, from
Motorola's Moto Mods to the Essential Phone PH-1's modular camera.
Neither of those companies moved enough phones -- the Essential, in particular,
was an outright flop -- to really interest many accessory makers to take risks
on bold ideas. Most of the time, we got extra battery packs.

Apple's scale changes everything.
Paving the way
Apple's enormous reach -- Strategy Analytics estimates it will sell 180 million
units next year -- means a potentially huge market for anyone looking to build
MagSafe accessories. The opportunity is particularly rich for anyone looking at
attachments beyond the basic wireless charging stand.
Think game controllers, camera grips, selfie sticks and, yes, wireless charging
battery packs that could change the way we hold or interact with an iPhone.

"We can't wait to see the innovative way that others will use MagSafe, creating
a robust and ever expanding ecosystem," Deniz Teoman, vice president of
hardware systems engineering at Apple, said in the Apple presentation on
Tuesday.

That isn't hyperbole. Apple has a way of popularizing and legitimizing tech
trends, from mobile payments to wireless charging. Where Motorola and Essential
fell short, Apple could popularize the notion of magnetic attachments.

Apple itself filed a patent for a folio case with additional power supply and
the ability to charge AirPods, according to Patently Apple. While those patents
don't always yield products in the real world, they're an indication of where
the company may go in the future.

Phone accessory maker Belkin , meanwhile, has already unveiled two MagSafe
accessories, a charging stand that can handle an iPhone 12, Apple Watch and
Apple Airpods, along

RE: 3rd Party Keyboards

2020-10-18 Thread Richard Turner
Did you try the double tap and hold on the next keyboard icon and then slide
your finger up?

Personally, I found Flicktype and MBraille did not play well together.

Subject: 3rd Party Keyboards

Hi all,

It has been a while since I have used any 3rd party keyboards, so I thought I
would try some out. I added both MBraille and FlickType to my keyboards, as
well as granted them full access. But when I go to switch keyboards, I only
have 2 choices, English and Emoji. Would anyone know why neither MBraille or
Flicktype would show up in my list of keyboard choices?

Now because of bugs I really did not care for, I am still running ios 13.4.1.

Thanks,

Chris

Yes I have had trouble confirming a ride. I can’t activate that button with

Re: Kindle voices

2020-10-18 Thread Michael Feir
The female US and UK Siri voices are great alternatives for Kindle reding.
I usually use Alex myself, but variety is the spice of life as they say.
These days I'm using my Braille display to read Kindle books quite often.
That works splendidly too.

All I know is that when I double tapped on confirm ride repeatedly, nothing

If that doesn’t work, then call Apple Accessibility.

iphone. Sorry for my poor explanation.

Regards

Hi Anthony,

For folks to help, you didn’t quite give enough information. Is this happening
when you text someone using an iPhone, or is it happening when you are texting
to another type of phone, or both?

I think you may want to look at settings and messages. In there you can see
what your settings for messages look like. For instance, if you can’t send to
people who are not using an iPhone, then you want to make sure that “SMS”
messaging is turn on.

I hope that helps some.

Take care and be safe!

Debby

Hi, that’s not the issue, since I always have worn a mask, especially given
that I don’t want to be put in the position of having to take a picture of
myself before being allowed to ride. I gather there is a checkbox where you are
supposed to confirm that you were wearing a mask; voiceover for me isn’t
reading it. Before the ride goes through there are one or two steps relating
about washing your hands and sitting in the back, and then it says for number
three that to wear a mask with underneath saying required, with no indication
of what line the check box is on.

Not sure why it doesn't copy, but just FYI, iPhone ringtones can actually be 40
seconds in length.

Subject: a question about copying ringtones to my iPhone, sometimes ringtones
won't copy

Re: When I Change My Apple ID

2020-10-18 Thread Arnold Schmidt
I agree about having a gmail or outlook email address now. That way, one does
not have to change it if their ISP changes. i have had my mindspring address
since November, 1996, when the company was mindspring, then bought by
earthlink. I used my mindspring address to establish my apple ID when I first
put ITunes onto my computer in 2010. But for the past little while, earthlink
has been leting more and more junk into my email, and they either can't or
won't do anything about it. Now, Spectrum is ending their contract with
earthlink in my area, so I will cancel my earthlink account as of November 1.
I am a little sentimental about it, but in other ways, I won't be sorry to let
it go.

I highly recommend people get an Outlook or Gmail email address once and be
done with changing email addresses for the rest of their lives. If you have an
@outlook.com or an @gmail.com email then that is yours for as long as you want
it and it makes no difference who your provider is. In Arnold's case I see he
is using als5...@gmail.com as the email address for this group, why not just go
to http://appleid.apple.com , sign in with whatever your current Apple Id

and you never have to worry about it again.

The domaine for the email address I use for my ID will be changing as of
November 1, so I have to change my ID. After I do, will everything still
continue to work, being only that the email address I use will be different, or
will such things as Apple Music tell me that I am trying to use content from
another ID? I am just wanting to know what to expect before I wish I had known.

RE: When I Change My Apple ID

2020-10-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You can change your Apple Id email and this way all your purchases remain
associated with that Apple Id.
I highly recommend people get an Outlook or Gmail email address once and be
done with changing email addresses for the rest of their lives. If you have an
@outlook.com or an @gmail.com email then that is yours for as long as you want
it and it makes no difference who your provider is. In Arnold's case I see he
is using als5...@gmail.com as the email address for this group, why not just go
to http://appleid.apple.com , sign in with whatever your current Apple Id
credentials are and then change the email address to that gmail email address
and you never have to worry about it again.

You don’t download it, you copy it to another location on your device. It is
read only so you can copy it, and it should just show up on your device signed
into iCloud.

RE: When I Change My Apple ID

2020-10-18 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi Arnold,

I'm pasting the text of a support article I copied from the Apple Support
website after my signature discussing changing your Apple ID. You might also
get the Apple Support app which I used to find this article. It sounds as if
you won't lose anything by changing your Apple ID but I'd recommend you peruse
the article and its links. The article came from this website:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202667

Good luck.

Alan Lemly

Change your Apple ID

If you no longer use the email address that's associated with your Apple ID,
you can change it. You won’t lose access to your contacts, purchases, or other
account information.

How to change your Apple ID to a different email address

Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in.

In the Account section, choose Edit.

Choose Change Apple ID.

The website appleid.apple.com showing the Change Apple ID button.

Enter the email address that you want to use.

Choose Continue.

If you changed your Apple ID to a third-party email address, check your
email for a verification code, then enter the code. Learn what to do if you
didn't get the email.

If you use services like iCloud or Messages to share with friends and
colleagues, sign in to those services with your updated Apple ID.

If you can't change your Apple ID

If you try to change your Apple ID to an @icloud.com email address that was
created within the last 30 days, you will be asked to try again later.

If you see a message that the email address you want to use isn't available or
is already in use, check that you or a family member aren't already using that
email address with a different Apple ID. If a family member is using that email
address, remove it from their account then try to use it.

In some countries or regions, you can use your phone number as your Apple ID.
But if your Apple ID is an email address, you can't change it to a phone number.

If your Apple ID is a phone number

You can change your Apple ID to a different mobile phone number.

Learn more

To switch to a different Apple ID account—not change the email address that
you use as your Apple ID—you can sign out, then sign in with a different Apple
ID.

Learn more about how to use your Apple ID and keep your account information
up-to-date.

hi are you going to keep updating this?

Or is this the final update to this folder?

Just wondering if we should hang on to this link and wait until you update it

Thank you for all of thees so far and I hope that you don't mind me asking you

your ring tones folder

2020-10-18 Thread Casey

hi are you going to keep updating this?

Or is this the final update to this folder?

Just wondering if we should hang on to this link and wait until you
update it again or if this is all that you will be putting in this folder?

Thank you for all of thees so far and I hope that you don't mind me
asking you this off of the list.

When I Change My Apple ID

2020-10-18 Thread Arnold Schmidt
The domaine for the email address I use for my ID will be changing as of
November 1, so I have to change my ID. After I do, will everything still
continue to work, being only that the email address I use will be different, or
will such things as Apple Music tell me that I am trying to use content from
another ID? I am just wanting to know what to expect before I wish I had known.
Thanks in advance for any information.
