Re: Impressions of Airpods Max

Also, try the hip-hop eq. It enhances both the treble and bass frequencies,
which to me makes things just a little bit clearer. It really helps with both
types of AirPods. With your pod Max in a pressure on your here, it might feel
weird at first, but I guarantee you clarity is key here. And whatever device
you use for your listening, to me it just enhances the sound really well.
That’s sitting we will particularly shine on the AirPod Max!

Well, there isn't a ton of adjustments, but check these two places.
Settings, Music, EQ which is under the playback heading in the music settings.
Also, Settings, Accessibility, Airpods.
You can do some customization under accessibility accomodation.
I ended up leaving mine where they are by default, but sound is so very
personal, you may find something there that helps.

Hi Andy,
I think that tinny sound is just because you are getting the higher frequencies
from outside. I find I can live with it because it reduces, if not removes,
that sense of pressure.
But, of course, all this is personal preference/comfort.
I think you may be able to play some with the EQ that might help when noise
cancelation is on. It will be interesting to see how it goes.
I have not heard anything that sounded this good in a headphone.
Enjoy,

RE: Help with Voice Dream Writer

2021-04-03 Thread Christopher Chaltain
OK, thanks! I did listen to the Braillists podcast on UEB, and it sounded
pretty simple! I probably needed to pay more attention! They were probably also
stressing how similar UEB is rather than stressing the differences.

HI,
You are not alone.
The Transition to UEB from Hadley is very good, but here are some pointers.

I started with learning UEB in 2015, or maybe 2014 when I knew it would be the
default format after January of 2016.
It wasn’t until dealing with MBraile and their support of the UEB Hashtag, a
couple months ago that I finally got it into my brain the difference.

UEB calls dots 3,4,5,6 the Number Indicator. Because, in braille, a through j
doubles as 1 through 0 so you have to have something that indicates it isn’t a
letter but a number.

In print, that is no problem because numbers are already distinct.

So, the “number sign, or hanshtag” had to have a braille equivalent thanks
muchly to all the social media stuff. So, they adopted 4,5,6 then 1,4,5,6 as
the Hashtag/Number sign. If you were hash tagging a number, then it would be
4,5,6, then 1,4,5,6, then 3,4,5,6. Isn’t this fun?

In UEB, things like time, dates, etc., require a fresh number indicator after
punctuation. So to write 3:00 PM it would be dots 3,4,5,6, c, colon, then
the number indicator again dots 3,4,5,6, then j j, PM.

If I remember correctly, currency doesn’t need the extra number indicator for
the cents. So write the dollar sign, dot 4, s, number indicator and your
numbers, period cents.

I hope that helps,

Richard

Ah, OK, I see my problem. I was using 3,4,5,6 for the number sign. Even after
reading your email the first time, I was still typing in 4,5,6 followed by
3,4,5,6 and still not getting the number sign. Now that I’m typing 4,5,6
followed by 1,4,5,6 it’s working just as you explained below! I’m no expert on
UEB, but I’m surprised 3,4,5,6 isn’t the number sign.

OK, here’s another question. How do I type time in UEB? When I type 3,4,5,6
followed by 12 followed by dots 2,5 for the colon and then a pair of j’s, I
don’t get 12:00 but rather 12:jj. Maybe I need a pointer to some documentation
on UEB!

OK, I just tested with that setup.
The “number sign” or “Hashtag” is dots 4,5,6, then dots, 1,4,5,6.
Do that once, immediately followed by the words you want in your heading level
1 and hit a hard return.
Do that number sign twice then the heading words for a heading level 2, and so
on.
Make sure you get a hard return after the heading text.
Then, open the outline and set it to lowest level headings to confirm it worked.
Then, when you export it as rtf (which is what I recommend, the document will
have those marked up as headings.

I haven’t made a thorough recording on walking through all of that, but there
may be one on ApleVis.

HTH,

I am using English UEB under the system heading in the braille settings for
VoiceOver. I thought I mentioned this in my message, but I am trying it right
now with Braille Screen Input on my iPhone.

BTW, later I want to try it with my K-380 and my Orbit Writer, but I’d like to
start with Braille Screen Input.

Impressions of Airpods Max

2021-04-03 Thread Andy Baracco
I received my Airpods Max on Thursday but because i was busy, I didn't get to
them right away.

Thanks to Richard's great instructions and the Tech Doctor podcast setup was
easy, taking only a few minutes.
I haven't listened to much music, but what I have listened to sounded great.
I was on a 2 hour Zoom meeting today, and i noticed that after about a half
hour my ears started to hurt from the pressure. The meeting lasted for about 2
hours and I was glad it was finally over. The only other thing that stuck out
was a kind of tinny quality to the audio when in transparency mode. I don't
think I'll be using that mode much, as I will generally be using them in the
house.
More later!

Andy

RE: Help with Voice Dream Writer

2021-04-03 Thread Richard Turner
HI,
You are not alone.
The Transition to UEB from Hadley is very good, but here are some pointers.

I started with learning UEB in 2015, or maybe 2014 when I knew it would be the
default format after January of 2016.
It wasn't until dealing with MBraile and their support of the UEB Hashtag, a
couple months ago that I finally got it into my brain the difference.

UEB calls dots 3,4,5,6 the Number Indicator. Because, in braille, a through j
doubles as 1 through 0 so you have to have something that indicates it isn't a
letter but a number.

In print, that is no problem because numbers are already distinct.

So, the "number sign, or hanshtag" had to have a braille equivalent thanks
muchly to all the social media stuff. So, they adopted 4,5,6 then 1,4,5,6 as
the Hashtag/Number sign. If you were hash tagging a number, then it would be
4,5,6, then 1,4,5,6, then 3,4,5,6. Isn't this fun?

In UEB, things like time, dates, etc., require a fresh number indicator after
punctuation. So to write 3:00 PM it would be dots 3,4,5,6, c, colon, then
the number indicator again dots 3,4,5,6, then j j, PM.

If I remember correctly, currency doesn't need the extra number indicator for

Now that I'm typing 4,5,6
followed by 1,4,5,6 it's working just as you explained below! I'm no expert on
UEB, but I'm surprised 3,4,5,6 isn't the number sign.

OK, here's another question. How do I type time in UEB? When I type 3,4,5,6
followed by 12 followed by dots 2,5 for the colon and then a pair of j's, I
don't get 12:00 but rather 12:jj. Maybe I need a pointer to some documentation
on UEB!

OK, I just tested with that setup.
The "number sign" or "Hashtag" is dots 4,5,6, then dots, 1,4,5,6.

I haven't made a thorough recording on walking through all of that, but there
may be one on ApleVis.

I’m playing around with Voice dream Writer, and I was wondering if there were
any tutorials or places to go for help with the app.

Right now I’m trying to use it with Braille Screen Input, and this is probably
more of a BSI question then a Writer question, but I can’t figure out how to
insert a # (number sign) with BSI so I can mark something as a header in mark

RE: Help with Voice Dream Writer

2021-04-03 Thread Richard Turner
OK, I just tested with that setup.
The "number sign" or "Hashtag" is dots 4,5,6, then dots, 1,4,5,6.

I haven't made a thorough recording on walking through all of that, but there
may be one on ApleVis.

BTW, later I want to try it with my K-380 and my Orbit Writer, but I'd like to

I'm playing around with Voice dream Writer, and I was wondering if there were
any tutorials or places to go for help with the app.

Right now I'm trying to use it with Braille Screen Input, and this is probably
more of a BSI question then a Writer question, but I can't figure out how to
insert a # (number sign) with BSI so I can mark something as a header in mark

2021-04-03 Thread Richard Turner
That is a great deal with TMobile.
We are on Xfinity for internet, so the only thing we pay for is data, and since
we are mostly on Wi-Fi, we never use even 1 GB of data, which is $12 plus the
usual taxes, for about $15 per month.
So, I don’t mind paying for MLB audio.

well as the radio. Regular price I think for that is around $120 per year.

But, you can get MLB audio, for just the radio broadcast and the occasional
“Game Of The Day” that includes the TV for $20 per year.

That TMobile ads is for MLB TV, so you get access to all the TV broadcasts as
well as the radio. Regular price I think for that is around $120 per year.

But, you can get MLB audio, for just the radio broadcast and the occasional
“Game Of The Day” that includes the TV for $20 per year.

It works fine on the Echo if you enable the MLB skill and have your MLB account

I don’t think it comes with Prime, or if it does, I may have donated some money

RE: how to listen to major league games

2021-04-03 Thread Richard Turner
I only ever bought MLB Audio which stayed the same price for returning
customers, I don’t know about new customers.

The Mariner’s games are broadcast on our cable network so if my wife wants to
watch a game she can, and of course, they are on local radio, but I like to
follow other teams so I only need the audio subscription.
Compared to the NFL though, MLB TV is a great deal for those who want the TV
side.

Hi Richard,
The price went up this year to $129.99. MLB is trying to recoup lost revenue.

We've had a much better experience with the barcode reading with supersense too.

I have had horrible luck with the Seeing AI. Supersense AI is better.

The creator of Seeing AI recommends that once you have an idea what part
of the package the bar code is located, you start with the camera 8 or 10
inches away and slowly move closer. If the bar card is there, it will start
making a sound.
Or, while holding the camera about 8 to 10 inches away and if you are sure
it is pointed to the package, start rotating the package slowly, you should
hear something and when you do stop moving the package and slowly bring the
camera closer.

The main tips for bar codes that I know are:
1. on cans, it is usually near the seam in the label on the middle to
lower portion of the can.

2. ON packages that are plastic bags, like chocolate chips, it is also by
the seam and you just have to move back and forth until you find it.

3. ON boxes, it is usually on the bottom again near the seam, but not
always.
For example, Lean Cuisine frozen meals the bar code is on the back near
a corner, where no seam exists. You can tell it’s the back because the flaps
that are glued down has the edge toward the bottom.

4. On some soda cans, there are no labels, so you are on your own to just
rotate the can until you find it.

Or, as someone else said, use the Short Text feature and read the label.
Though, sometimes, there is good extra information included in the bar code.

Josh:

I have never had much luck with the bar code reader in Seeing A I. Have
better luck with the 'short text' feature to read the front of the label.

If you still want to use the bar code feature, double tap on it and the bar
code is usually to the left of the label seam on the bottom.
