RE: Weird problem on iPhone 13 Pro involving media

2022-10-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Two things to consider/check: do you have a screen protector on the phone and
is it possibly not applied correctly or loose? Second, is your iPhone screen
clean? I have seen dirty screens cause all sorts of weird behaviour.

Subject: Weird problem on iPhone 13 Pro involving media

Hello. I am having a weird issue when media is playing on my iPhone 13 Pro.
First off, I have iOS 16.0.2, and this issue is totally random when it occurs.
I could be listening to a book, podcast, Internet radio stream, or a movie or
show on a streaming service. At different times, the audio will suddenly stop,
whether I pick up the phone, sit down at a table, grip the sides of the phone,
or even touch the screen when the phone is locked. For a while, it happened
once every other day or once a day, but recently it has started happening twice
in 1 day. Usually I just restart the audio and everything is fine. It doesn't
matter if I restart VoiceOver or the phone, the problem keeps happening. I got
this phone July 31, and I don't remember this media problem happening during
the first few weeks of having it. Even if it did, I wasn't in a position to do
anything about it since I was going through some serious issues of my own in
August. I just remembered another behavior. I was talking with a family member
on the phone. I had them on speaker and had locked the phone. At some point
during the call, my phone started randomly pushing the touch tone buttons. I
didn't do it and the other person didn't do it either, I figure it must have
been my phone that was acting up. I'm going to an Apple Store next week since
this seems like a hardware issue. I have 2 questions. First, could this be a
random iOS problem? And the other, I have the basic coverage plan from Apple
that they give everyone who buys a new iPhone within the first year. Would I
still be serviced under this plan with this weird issue? I'm thinking that if I
go to an Apple Store and they run their tests on the phone, that I have a
better chance of having my phone replaced. Thoughts?

Warm regards,

Wayne Merritt

Hi, I'm glad you experienced a positive experience with Kliph before.
My post was not meant to forever taint the guys' reputation, but a
$2,000 theft is not an offense to take lightly. In my opinion, Kliph has
displayed a high degree of cowardice for not even acknowledging the theft, not
so much as an apology. Buyers should beware. At any rate, I don't mean to
continue adding to the thread here. People are aware and can make their own
decisions.

Hi,

I appreciate the discussion because I think it’s talked me out of buying
because there’s probably other ways I can accomplish what I need. I am looking
to learn where a door is in a row of townhomes where there is no distinguishing
landmarks or clues to know which is which. But I could at least till winter put
some thing audible in the house by the door like a small radio or some thing
that I could hear. Until I learn, which is which. An AirTag would work for
this, but I think there are other better solutions.

Thank you,

BetH

Are you using a SIM card and phone/data plan from whatever country you are in?
Do you have roaming turned on?
If you don't have a local SIM I would keep in mind that using your phone in
roaming mode could get quite expensive quite quickly.

I am currently in Europe. If I go to send messages, they go from my email
address. I typically have them go from my phone number. When I go to the phone
settings on my 14 Pro, the Sim option is dimmed. My husband can send and
receive messages from his phone number. Our settings appear to be exactly the
same in all respects, except that he has a Sim listed. I googled to see how to
enable myself to send from my phone number and receive messages that way, but
the answers I found didn’t address this issue. Any help greatly appreciate it.

I’m seriously considering taking advantage of upgrading my phone. I have the

I’m finding a bit disconcerting with the phone these days. Since I have the

Does anyone have thoughts on either the iPhone 14 or 14 pro? For those who have
either phone, how do you like them?
I’ve never really had issues with any of my phones, and I hope to continue this
streak if I do upgrade.
Also, I’m wondering what is better. Should I go through the Apple Store and get
a trade-in, or should I go through my carrier? I’m still doing all of the
necessary research.
Anyway, thanks for any info you could give me on advantages or disadvantages of
the new iPhone 14.

RE: Any thoughts on the iPhone 14 or 14 Pro?

2022-10-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Why should you have waited? If you need or really want a new phone then that
is when you should get one. You can always wait for the next year's phones if
you think that way. In your case I think you upgraded from an iPhone 8 to a 13
Pro Max which is a significant upgrade. What I don't really understand is when
people upgrade from a 13 Pro to a 14 Pro or even a 12 Pro to a 14 Pro. There
are two technologies which I think I would like to have and that is LiDAR and
Mag Safe charging, but neither I find is critical enough for me to even warrant
an upgrade from my 11 to a 14 Pro. Apart from LiDAR I can't think of a single
thing off the top of my hat which I could do with an iPhone 14 Pro that I can't
do with my 11.

RE: "a question about updating

2022-10-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Dan,

First of all, this is not an accessibility issue since when this wasn't working
for me it also wasn't working if I turned Voiceover off altogether.
Secondly, I assume this is already fixed when iOS 16.1 comes out since for me
it works fine and I am on iOS 16.1 Public Beta 4. I assume public beta 5 comes
out this week and that iOS 16.1 will be officially released during the last
week of October or the first week of November.

I am running the latest update, and Siri continues to not do the song
identification. When I hear a song playing, and I ask Siri to name this song,
she will say “let me listen “and after about 10 seconds, will say I can’t
recognize songs right now try again in a bit. I’ve written to Apple
accessibility and haven’t gotten anywhere. I hope they get this fixed.

 Siri does not.
So something on the Apple side is broken between Siri and Shazam,
but you can get the results you want simply by asking Siri to open
Shazam instead of asking it to identify the song.
At least until Apple sorts out whatever they did.

Gera, Apple uses Shazam for song identification. A few days ago
there was an update to Shazam. For me, strangely my Apple watch
running IOS 9, Siri will immediately identify a song every time.
But if I use my iPhone 11 running
16.02 & the most recent update to Shazam, Siri will not identify
 any song.

Accessible Symptom Trackers

2022-10-10 Thread Lanie Molinar
Hi all. Can anyone recommend an accessible symptom tracker app? I have a
lot of health issues and want to be able to log my symptoms, medication,
maybe what I ate, and other things since I'm thinking it might help me and
my family see patterns in what makes things worse or better. I tried one
symptom tracker but it wasn't accessible. Thanks.

NaviLens and label types and uses

2022-10-10 Thread Richard Turner
Hi,

I started this thread to help separate this topic from Air Tags.

First, Sandy, if you start a groups.io group, I will join though I have not
used NaviLens myself as much as I thought I would.

Also Sandy, what info can you share about the iron-on labels?

Holly or Sandy, if you find vinal paper that can take laser printing, let me
know what it is and perhaps a link to Amazon?

I really liked Martin’s idea about the basketball hoop. When I was in High
School, in the earliest of the 70’s, I had someone stand under the hoop and hit
it with my cane.

I shot about 50% from the free-throw line, which at the time was as good or a
little better than Wilt Chamberlin. 

item switcher? VERY DIFFERENT in IOS16

2022-10-10 Thread Curtis Delzer
Since I've had the upgrade, one thing which really  irritates me is the
wrong item gets turned off in item switcher when the one you want is
announced. Never b4 in any other IOS build has this happened to me,
since way back in the days of my iPhone 5.0 so is it just me?

If me then my fingers are all screwed up, but if not would some kind
soul describe to me how to make sure I am on the right item when all the
time in the past the item was cheerfully and properly and thoroughly and
completely  announced before I slid up 3 fingers to stop it from running.

And, on a similar vein? or is it vane? whose doing the pointing; anyway,

the rates of the voices aren't the same from level 55 to the highest,
there is a big jump when it should be more gradual, particularly when
using Alex, (who still breathes by the way)

Seems someone describe how to fine tune the adjustment, but I've
forgotten how to . . .

And, have you noticed also that the voice says the word for the
condition of contact, e.g. home, work, school, or whatever without
hardly a word space between,

Joe Johnson work, Sally goody-3-shoes work.

or bryan berp school?

so, now I've let down my hair, lets hope some barber doesn't come round
and find my head on the floor instead. :)

2022-10-10 Thread Carolyn
Great idea about your guitar.

I am soon going to move to a mobile home on my son's property. Our houses are
about half a block apart.

I am wondering, if I could get the tags, laminate them, affix one to his back
door, one to my front door and find our doors using them?

My neighbor and I play music on a regular basis at senior centers. He has had
guitars stolen from him from time to time so I put an air tag inside my 12
string guitar so if it ever gets away from me I can track it. I used small
Velcro disks with adhesive on the back to secure it inside the guitar. It

Re: Containers And iPhone Weather App

2022-10-10 Thread Margaret Thomas
I found a podcast by Thomas Domville called "How to Check Weather
Information with Siri in iOS" on Applevis that I'll listen to later.
The item is listed at:

https://www.applevis.com/new-to-ios?type=All=1

I found the "missing" actual native weather app apparently clearly
labeled Weather on the second page of my Home Screen. How I missed it
for all this time is a mystery!!! I was so focused on all the stuff
needed to learn how to get my contacts in that I didn't pay attention to
apps. And there was this thing that clearly said Weather right on the
status bar.

I think I found my way to Today View and I found another podcast by
Thomas Domville on "How to add, remove, and customize widgets in iOS" on
Applevis listed at

https://www.applevis.com/new-to-ios?type=All=1

that I'll add to my to do list.

Adding containers to the rotor will be for another day.

Thank you.

I asked Siri to open weather and what it opened was very much if not
totally like what I've been double tapping on the status bar to get
weather. I got more of the "extra" weather items like pressure using
that screen today than yesterday, but still no phase of the moon.

One thing that I heard that I don't remember hearing before was
something like scroll left to get to today view. I have to look up
scroll left, but maybe if I can get there it will help enlighten me
about what today view might be.

I'll have another try at adding containers to the rotor after a break.

I couldn't find an icon that said weather when I first got the phone and
only had 1 home screen and thought it was a very important app not to be
there. I'll have another try after some tea just in case I've missed it.

A change in what the status bar originally said and a change on another
part of the phone I asked someone to make may be part of the cause of my
weather app problem. When I got the phone home from the Verizon store,
it said Cupertino and not my town in the status bar that was very
annoying. Several days later, I asked my computer tech who was here for
something else if he could turn off raise to tap and he did and my town
and weather were in the status bar instead of Cupertino when I looked at
the phone when he left. Maybe he changed it which was helpful, but I
have no idea what he did and if it had anything to do with the "missing"
weather icon. I kept hearing weather in the status bar with widget
stack and my town and got more weather when I finally got brave and
double tapped on it.

I haven't knowingly created any folders and use them on my computer but
pretty much know little about them on the phone.

This is my backup phone that was intended for hurricanes and Nor'easters
when my land line is down and my land line is my primary phone. The guy
at the Verizon store claimed that he was unable to transfer my contacts
from my Haven 3G flip phone to the SE 2020 and reconstructing them was
job #1. I'm not learning new things nearly as well as I did even five
years ago and I suspect that my phone life would have been much easier
if I had been able to get it at an Apple store, but there was none close
to me. I greatly appreciate everyone's help and patience.

Margaret

Hi, I'm glad you experienced a positive experience with Kliph before.
My post was not meant to forever taint the guys' reputation, but a
$2,000 theft is not an offense to take lightly. In my opinion, Kliph
has displayed a high degree of cowardice for not even acknowledging
the theft, not so much as an apology. Buyers should beware. At any
rate, I don't mean to continue adding to the thread here. People are
aware and can make their own decisions.

I can't find any info about the iron-on labels here in the U.S.

I do have a color printer, so that is not a problem.

I suppose we should start a new thread about this subject.

Keep the suggestions coming, truly, these are so versatile, the ideas are
endless!

I am encountering problems setting up an IO Group email list, a platform I
like, but I have a cooking list on IO, and I think that is my lot! So, as soon
as I have found someone who wants to set the group, they wouldn't have to do
anything else, unless they wanted to, watch this space, then we can all get
talking everything NaviLens and get people trying it out!

Re: Considering buying AirTags. How accessible is the app? What are some good uses for them? Talked me into buying. Lol.

2022-10-10 Thread 'Sandy Tomkins' via VIPhone
Holly,

Good questions, and I have done all of the above! I started out with the
paper printouts, which flew away and were useless in the rain. Then I put them
in freezer bags, which worked but was not exactly slick! Then I laminated them,
and this was much better! You really feel like you have something identifiable,
not just bits of paper. They work well inside and, if you live in a fairly dry
climate, I live in Ireland! they will do alright outside. However, NaviLens do
suggest that the best is printing on Vinyl. I bought some Vinyl Paper from
Amazon, these are self adhesive, just pull off the backing. With the laminated
ones, I use double sided sticky tape, but it doesn't stay on in the wind and
rain.

You do need a colour printer to print them. This is one good reason for
starting up a new email list, for swapping ideas and experiences.

The clothing labels are available online, from spain, they do cost, maybe
30 euros/dollars, for about 70 labels, but don't quote me on that, I can try
and find out more?

If you haven't tried the labels yet, I do urge you to, they are not only
great for giving us access to signage, something the sighted world has had for
ever, and now can be for us too! They can be brilliant for orientation and so
much more!

Sandy and Zyon the thief!

Subject: Re: Containers And iPhone Weather App

Can you use these tags on outside objects, such as garbage cans? I imagine

Also, where can you get the iron-on clothing labels?

Re: "a question about updating

2022-10-10 Thread Dan Yates
I am running the latest update, and Siri continues to not do the song
identification. When I hear a song playing, and I ask Siri to name this song,
she will say “let me listen “and after about 10 seconds, will say I can’t
recognize songs right now try again in a bit. I’ve written to Apple
accessibility and haven’t gotten anywhere. I hope they get this fixed.

 Siri does not.
So something on the Apple side is broken between Siri and Shazam,

Shazam instead of asking it to identify the song.
At least until Apple sorts out whatever they did.

2022-10-10 Thread Marty Hutchings
Sorry for hijacking this topic.  Please count me in on the new Navilense
group.  I am new to this ap and am thinking of all kinds of
possibilities for the use of this product.  For 1, how about name tags
at conventions and such.  The sighted world can just read a name tag and
call you by name.  If the tag had a Navilense code on it, I could just
use my phone to find people in a room full of people and know who is
speaking to me.  I might even be able to shoot some hoops again by
placing a tag on the basketball goal, because it gives me the distance
and direction in my bone conduction headphones, which are a must have if
you use any kind of navigational ap these days.  Just some of the ideas
that keep popping into my head for this product.

Thanks.

Check out the app, NaviLens which is free.
You can request pdf files of tags you print off, then scan with NaviLens and
enter or record whatever text you want.
The tags come in multiple sizes, full page, 4 on a page, 16 on a page and so on.
The full page one is scannable at at least 70 or 80 feet away.
What I would do, is print out a full page or at least the 4 on a page, Tape it
on a window near the door, and when you are getting close, fire up NaviLens and
once it sees the label, it will lead you to it.

If your address is posted on that door, or near it, if you have a pro model of
the 12, 13, or 14, the new door detection feature might work as well.

Thank you,

Yes weather is an app if you're not seeing it on your main home screen it must
be on another page or maybe inside of a folder you can either scroll through
all of the icons on your pages and do you find it or you can tell Siri to open
Weather and it'll open the app for you

Re: Considering buying AirTags. How accessible is the app? What are some good uses for them? Talked me into buying. Lol.

2022-10-10 Thread 'Sandy Tomkins' via VIPhone
Richard,

You are talking about my most favourite app for identification and
navigation!!! NaviLens is wonderful and at an important point in its
development. I am on a campaign, as a user of the app, although, I do have
links with the NaviLens Team, to get people using the free app. Over here, in
Ireland and the UK, some products are using the NaviLens QR Codes, so that when
you are in the supermarket, you just fire up the app, and scan the shelves and
voila! your phone will find the codes, identify them and guide you, minutely,
to exactly where they are on the shelf. Also, with just a flick, you can read
all the info that is available to the sighted public, instructions, ingredients
safety etc.

We have started a Whatsapp group for NaviLens users, but I am thinking to
start an IO group, which would be more manageable,. Because, at the moment, P
and G, and Kellogg's, are using the codes, so, we can find the products in the
cereal isle, in the beauty isle and now in the laundry isle! Each time a code
is scanned, the app informs the navilens website, phones/people are anonymous,
but the scan is registered to see how much people are using the app.
Unfortunately, because of many reasons, most of which we all know, VIPs have
developed our own ways of shopping, which doesn't often involve shopping in
person or independently. But business is int3rested in numbers, so, if we want
this to grow, we need to get scanning!!! This is my mission in life, for the
present...

People don't know that you can get iron-on clothing labels, not for free,
but you can record any info you like on them, colour, washing instructions etc.
There is so much potential for these codes and for us! Watch this space for the
new NaviLens User Group on the IO platform!!!

Sandy and new Guide Dog, Zyon The Bold!

As I understand it, they use the Find My app, which is totally accessible.

As Sieghard says, you are the only one who can say if you need them. I
personally don't need to spend $30 for one little tag to track anything.
 Perhaps if I
