Re: RE: Victor Reader Stream

2023-06-01 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
When you purchase Sd cards larger then 32 gigs, they are already
formatted as x-fat, so the third gen stream can read them
automatically.

No Lana, it does not. However, just remember, that your new SD card in the
third gen stream is in xfat format, while the SD card in a second gen stream
must be formatted as fat32. If someone wanted to use a large capacity SD card
in both the second gen stream, or the third gen stream, they must first make
sure their SD card is formatted as fat32.

know it's weird but that's how it works.

Re: What's the best way to delete a contact in iPhone?

2023-06-01 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Apple has a way of thinking about merged contacts. Especially if you are using
both Google and iCloud for contact services. Near the bottom of the card
(possibly only when in edit mode) there should be a merged and duplicate
contacts information.
Contact management is easier in Google contact on the web or on the Macintosh.
There are also several third party applications that are supposed to give
better interfaces for managing contacts.

When you display the contact, the Edit button should be near the top.

I sure wish apple would change that. It would be nice to just be able to swipe

Tring to pair a braillesense with an iphone

2023-06-01 Thread Anne Günther

Hi,
The device shows up in the bluetooth settings and gets connected. It
also shows up as a braille display afterwards in the accessibility
settings. But it doesn't show anything going on onthe screen and can't
be used for controlling or typing either. What could be the problem? I
tried with an Iphone se 22 with Ios 16 last two actual iterations. And
an ipad mini 4 with ios 15.

regards, Guenni

I don't think I would buy a lock which can't be opened with a physical key just

Janet, I need to dive into my Amazon and send you a link to door knobs that
were ordered with mine that her securely locked when the deadbolt is locked.
Now keep in mind, these door knobs do not have key holes. So that way nobody
can pick the lock to try to get in. Which I think is a good thing. So the only
Lock that you would have to worry about is the deadbolt lock. Both of these
items are made by the company that we're discussing.

A good deadbolt is really all you need, these old twist handles where
you have a button you can push in or where you push in and twist the handle to
lock it are really not rated for exterior doors; they are good for privachy
doors like a bathroom or bedroom, but they would not stand up to any sort of
force. I prefer a good smartlock deadbolt and a nice lever-style handle, but
then I am Germany and we never had round door handles which you had to twist,
even when I was a little child in the late 60's interior as well as exterior
doors had lever-style push down handles.

Joseph,

I like the idea about removing the deadbolts, and replacing them with
the keypad, but I also have door nobs with locks on them, so not sure how that
would all work out. I also wonder how easy it might be for someone to break
the keypad, do you know?

RE: RE: Victor Reader Stream

2023-06-01 Thread Carolyn Arnold
If your SD card for your Stream is not formatted, it will give you problems,
regardless of its size.

Does everyone mean that I have to take all those books I transferred to my new
256 card off the card, reformat it in my new Stream III, and then put them
back. Will this really solve all these problems we are having?
I'm going to wait for more information before I take such drastic acts. Is
there even a format command on the new Stream?

RE: What's the best way to delete a contact in iPhone?

2023-06-01 Thread karl
For reasons I can’t explain I have a number of duplicated contacts in my
iPhone. If I delete one of them all of them are deleted. Is there a way to
delete just one rather than all copies? Thanks.

No Lana, it does not. However, just remember, that your new SD card
in the third gen stream is in xfat format, while the SD card in a
second gen stream must be formatted as fat32. If someone wanted to
use a large capacity SD card in both the second gen stream, or the
third gen stream, they must first make sure their SD card is formatted
as fat32.

2023-06-01 Thread joseph hudson
Well, it's the handle that sold with the lock itself. It's not the actual lock
that you're purchasing. You would still be able to unlock that deadbolt with
the key.

I don't think I would buy a lock which can't be opened with a physical key just
because I certainly had situations where for some reason something didn't work

Re: smart locks

2023-06-01 Thread joseph hudson
Janet since my previous luxe, had the keypad on the door knob, hi, don't know
if that can be done. I think if you left him there, it would be tempting to
lock that one, and then nobody could get in. As far as breaking the keypad I
don't know if that possibly could be a problem or not. And I think even if a
person did come and break the keypad, then you would definitely have some
serious issues with your door. Lock whenever you got home. If somebody broke
your keypad.

It's iPhone SE20 and iOS 16.

No Lana, it does not. However, just remember, that your new SD card
in the third gen stream is in xfat format, while the SD card in a
second gen stream must be formatted as fat32. If someone wanted to
use a large capacity SD card in both the second gen stream, or the
third gen stream, they must first make sure their SD card is formatted
as fat32.

RE: RE: Victor Reader Stream

2023-06-01 Thread la...@comcast.net
Does everyone mean that I have to take all those books I transferred to my new
256 card off the card, reformat it in my new Stream III, and then put them
back. Will this really solve all these problems we are having?
I'm going to wait for more information before I take such drastic acts. Is
there even a format command on the new Stream?

RE: smart locks

We have levers in the apartments. It's kind of like iPhone with no Home Button,
you just use the lever, not at all intimidating.

Sieghard,

I definitely want a Smart deadbolt Lock, but I can’t get rid of the door nob
because I wouldn’t have any way to open the door, but maybe I could just leave
that door nob button unlocked. This way I could still get in my house. If the
Smart Deadbolt Locks are that secure, I should be fine unlocking the door nob.
I can’t help but laugh about this, because I wouldn’t even know how to get
through a door without using a door nob, rather it be a push in or turn nob.

A good deadbolt is really all you need, these old twist handles where you have
a button you can push in or where you push in and twist the handle to lock it
are really not rated for exterior doors; they are good for privachy doors like
a bathroom or bedroom, but they would not stand up to any sort of force. I
prefer a good smartlock deadbolt and a nice lever-style handle, but then I am
Germany and we never had round door handles which you had to twist, even when I
was a little child in the late 60's interior as well as exterior doors had
lever-style push down handles.

Joseph,

I like the idea about removing the deadbolts, and replacing them with the
keypad, but I also have door nobs with locks on them, so not sure how that
would all work out. I also wonder how easy it might be for someone to break
the keypad, do you know?

Sieghard,

Oh I would love this too. It drives me nuts I have to keep deleting my own
calls that I’ve made! It drives me nuts also when I delete a voice message , I
have to go to the recent calls, and delete the exact same call, so basically I
am deleting the same calls two times.

And I wish 14 hyears after the iPhone 3GS was released the phone app would
finally get an update so you can filter your Recent calls not just by "All" and
"Missed", but also by "Incoming" and "Outgoing", maybe even by "Not in my
Contacts" or "Private/Unknown Numbers" and of course it would have to include a

only the calls currently visible, e.g. say you want to delete all outgoing

Hello, I replied to this on MacVisionaries, but what I’m talking about
is for iOs. :)

Two little things I’ve thought would be useful:

A VoiceOver gesture, (say a 2-finger swipe right) in the messages
window to send the composed message. Instead of locating the send button.

A VoiceOver gesture to spell the current word in focus. Often I’m on
the web and want something spelled out. It takes many little steps to turn the
rotor to word, flick to the one I want, then turn the rotor to character, flick
letter by letter. A simple shortcut would be super useful.

Those are two little things off the top of my head. :)

Take care,
Traci

RE: Just a Quick Hello To Everyone on the List from Moderator Mark

2023-06-01 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Sieghard,

You are absolutely correct regarding the recent call list.

The funny thing is that there are apps on iOS, such as Google Voice and Skype,
that allow for the functionality as you describe it.

Amazing, eh?

And I wish 14 hyears after the iPhone 3GS was released the phone app would
finally get an update so you can filter your Recent calls not just by "All" and
"Missed", but also by "Incoming" and "Outgoing", maybe even by "Not in my
Contacts" or "Private/Unknown Numbers" and of course it would have to include a
search field where you can type part of a numbe ror contact and see only the
numbers matching say a particular area code. Lastly, once the list has been
filtered there should be a "Select All" and "Delete" option which would delete
only the calls currently visible, e.g. say you want to delete all outgoing
calls or all Missed calls. Right now if even if you tap on the "Missed" tab and
then tap on Edit" and "Delete Selected", the entire recent call list is deelted.
My old Windows 5.1 smartphone with MobileSpeak back in 2005 or 2006 had this
functionality and I absolutely can't believe how people would not find it
useful to have the ability to filter or search their recent call list.after

Hello, I replied to this on MacVisionaries, but what I’m talking about is for
iOs. :)

Two little things I’ve thought would be useful:

A VoiceOver gesture, (say a 2-finger swipe right) in the messages window to
send the composed message. Instead of locating the send button.

A VoiceOver gesture to spell the current word in focus. Often I’m on the web
and want something spelled out. It takes many little steps to turn the rotor to
word, flick to the one I want, then turn the rotor to character, flick letter
by letter. A simple shortcut would be super useful.

Those are two little things off the top of my head. :)

Take care,
Traci

2023-06-01 Thread janet gross
Sieghard,
I definitely want a Smart deadbolt Lock, but I can't get rid of the door nob
because I wouldn't have any way to open the door, but maybe I could just leave
that door nob button unlocked. This way I could still get in my house. If the
Smart Deadbolt Locks are that secure, I should be fine unlocking the door nob.
I can't help but laugh about this, because I wouldn't even know how to get
through a door without using a door nob, rather it be a push in or turn nob.

No, a smart door lock does not open such a secondary lock. Basically think of a
smartlock as a replacement of your existing deadbolt, bujt instead of just a
keyhole on the outside and the lever on the inside you throw or turn to
lock/unlock, the smart door lock also has a small box mounted on the inside
which still contains a manual thumb lever/turn to lock/unlock, but it also
houses the motor which turns it electronically when you use the keypad or phone
to unlock it and of course a battery compartment. The outside still has a
standard kehyhole where you can unlock with a key, but there is also a keypad,
either with buttons or a touch screen. There still are also door locks which
have a fingerprint sensor, but they were more popular 10 or 15 years ago. I had
I think at least 2 and they could be quite fiddly reading your print especially
in the winter when it is cold here and I may have dry and cold hands etc.

Janet,

I believe there are locks which can use an existing setup, but typically the
smartlock is the deadbolt and you are much better off with a good Schlage,
August, Wiser, Yale or other smartlock than to try and put something over an
existing deadbolt which will turn it. Most of such locks are relatively easily
installed although most people probably would need some sort of sighted help to
do it. Basically you simply remove the existing deadbolt which is normally done
by removing 2 screws on the inside and you may have to remove the strike plate
on the edge of the door and replace it with what comes with the smartlock, but
so far all such locks I have had come with a couple of different pieces of
hardware so they can be used virtually to replace any standard deadbolt
installation. On the outside you then have the keypad which can be either
something with buttons or a touchscreen and on the inside you have a box which
contains the motor to turn the deadbolt and the batteries, typically either 4
AA or 1 square 9 Volt, AA seems to be the more common type now.
As Matter/thread support becomes a thing in home automation I would at this
point never buy a new smartlock which didn't support this as it makes
connection to other smart home devices and standards such as Apple's Home Kit,
Alexa or Google Home much simpler. In my opinion the Schlage Encode Plus is the
lock to check out; it is of course entirely possible Schlage may have released
a new version, but if not make sure it says "Encode Plus" and not just "Encode".

can open the app no matter wherever you're at and you can tap on the lock image

And I wish 14 hyears after the iPhone 3GS was released the phone app would
finally get an update so you can filter your Recent calls not just by "All" and
"Missed", but also by "Incoming" and "Outgoing", maybe even by "Not in my

filtered there should be a "Select All" and "Delete" option which would delete
only the calls currently visible, e.g. say you want to delete all outgoing
calls or all Missed calls.

Take care,
Traci

Hello Everyone,

Seems as though it's been quite a while since I posted to the list so just
wanted to check in with you and see how everyone is doing with their Apple
devices.

I am looking forward to the WWDC 2023 keynote presentation, next week.

You know? The only software feature that I really want added to the OS is
the ability to permanently save and organize iMessage content into folders.

Are there any features, accessibility-related or not, that you would like to
see introduced next week?

I hope everyone is doing well and I look forward to reading your replies.

RE: smart locks

2023-06-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
