RE: App Switcher With Logitech K480?

2021-11-04 Thread Zhi Huang
Hello:

While VO with h twice works, I personally prefer using f1 with the k480. The
reason is because it’s the assigned home key for that keyboard. This means you
press it once for home, twice for app switcher, and even 3 times for toggling
voice over. The problem with VO and h is you cannot turn on voice over with it
since it is a voice over command while f1 is not.

That app worked really well! At least it did a year ago. I can't say
currently since I left AT I've tried several others since, but not as good

RE: Bluetooth Speaker, Voiceover and Siri

2019-03-21 Thread Zhi Huang
Hi Jim:

I own the sound link Micro and my wife has the sound link color 1st generation.
The micro can get Siri to play from the speaker while the color does not.
While connected to your phone, press and hold the button on your speaker that
is used to play pause. Much like you are holding the button to call Siri. If
Siri responds, then that's how you do it. If not, then its likely not going to
do it. Also, documentation for the Micro says it supports speakerphone while
the color does not. I am guessing that if the mini supports speaker phone,
then it would work for Siri as well.

Hello to the list.
I am using an iPhone X S which is paired via bluetooth to a Bose Mini Sound
link speaker.
All audio sounds fantastic.
Voiceover comes through the bluetooth speaker along with all music.
However, Siri responses are still going through the iPhone speaker instead of
through the Bose bluetooth speaker.
I am hoping perhaps there is a way to change this?
I would like for Siri responses to play from the Bose as well, but do not know
if this is possible.
Thanks for any suggestions..

RE: To Those Who Have Used both Uber and Lyft, A Question

2018-12-24 Thread Zhi Huang
I use both and one thing is both apps can have updates which means things can
change. With my current versions, Lyft changed it where you specify where you
are going first and then work on where you are getting picked up. Uber, is the
other way.
I usually check both apps and compare the price and the ETA. Since I go to
many different places, some places are generally better with one or the other.
As for discounts, I randomly get an email usually on Mondays from Uber giving
$2, $4, 30% or 50% off for the next 10 rides during the week. Sometimes,
nothing for a week. As for Lyft, I usually only get an offer to buy a monthly
pass for $300 that gives up to $15 credits per ride for 30 rides. Yes, that's
a value of $450, but only if you constantly have rides of over $15, but that
ranges for me, so Uber usually wins in terms of discount.

The two apps feel almost identical to me. I will look at them both, to see
which one has the cheapest rate before booking a ride. Having said this, I tend
to prefer Lyft slightly more because they have a toll-free number you can call
if your driver decides to discriminate against you.

RE: Question regarding the Grocery app through Walmart

2018-12-13 Thread Zhi Huang
Hello:

I've used the Walmart groceries service over a year now. I used to just use
the website on Windows, but when I was traveling this July, I tried the app and
had no problems.

A few weeks ago, I noticed the website made some changes and it was a pain
searching for items and adding from my favorites. I did this with the app and
had no problems. I then noticed the problem with the cart. The issue was I
reserved a pick up slot and had to finish soon. The funny thing was my wife
said, perhaps the website would work better with the cart? I tried it and it
did. Therefore, for the time being, I use app to search for items and add
items from my favorites and then use the website to view the card and finish
the order.

I use the Walmart Grocery app. I have had no problems seeing all of the options
in the departments. Once in a while the stupid app closes itself as you are
flicking through, but you should see everything.
There are tabs at the top you can use to narrow the focus. The cart is a
problem. The screen doesn't scroll properly. So the best way is to go down as
far as you can from the top, then move to the bottom right corner where the
checkout button is located, and then scroll back left. The other thing you can
do is begin to check out, and that summary screen will display the cart
correctly.
It's definitely kind of an unruly app though.

the list?

Hi Len, Don and others,

I just noticed that the new Instant Pot Smart WiFi was now in stock and
available to ship on the Amazon Canada website and when I went to Amazon.com it
seems that it is now also listed and available to ship.

In Canada it is $199.99 Canadian and in the US $145.35 US, at the current
exchange rate the US and Canadian prices are pretty much right on.

Below are the links, of course since we are now only a little over a week away
from Black Friday I will wait and hope I can score a better deal on this.

I noticed the same thing, how sad. Maybe we can all take a field trip to Canada
to get these and hang with some awesome people up there. lol

I have AutoCorrect turned off. But I am Lowe’s to turn off the predictive text,
because I find that if I start entering my email, I can go up above the
keyboard and find my email address there. So it saves time. Otherwise, I don’t
mess with predictive text. But I do wonder if that’s what’s causing weirdness.
I would hate to give up the email predictions.

Sometimes when dictating a message, or an email, when the text is read back to
me, words will be pronounced wrong. Or incorrectly. For instance, when I
dictated this subject line of this message, it read back to me after the
dictation, then instead of issues, it said it’s use.

However, when I read the message back Word for Word on my own, it was written
correctly. Then it read it correctly.

What could be going on? What could make this happen?

No I do you have trouble with dictation. It doesn’t always dictate properly,
and I tried to fix things. But it’s frustrating when I write something out, and
then think there are errors that aren’t actually there. Any help with this
would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Thank you for that.

I looked it up and you are correct. However, my original comment about screen
reader support is still a factor. I pasted this from the below link:

Handy Tech Actilino Review | AppleVis
<https://www.applevis.com/reviews/braille-devices/handy-tech-actilino-review>

Mobile ATC is a different setting than the default ATC, and this enables the
actilino to advance the display via panning without the screen reader having
specific support for it.

I often say, if you have the best sound card, but match box sounding
speakers, its still going to sound like a matchbox. If you have a terrible
sound card, and the best sounding speakers its still not going to sound
good. In other words, you need both to support each other.

RE: Xfinity mobile anyone?

2018-10-03 Thread Zhi Huang
Hi:

I switched from AT slightly over a month ago. Please note that while you can
bring some existing phones, iPhone7s from AT are not likely to qualify. This
is the case even if they are unlocked because you may only have a phone
unlocked for use with GSM networks, and not CDMA. Xfinity uses Verizon
networks which is CDMA. With that said, connections for phone calls are much
better for me with Xfinity. It depends on if your area has better AT or
Verizon service. For me, the change has better calls, and lower cost.
However, I do notice that downloading apps appear much slower even on wifi.
Also, I do miss the free AT call protect app compared to just using Hiya to
deal with spam and other unwanted calls, but I will work with that.

My wife and I switched last December to Xfinity Mobile. At that time, you could
not bring your own phone to them, but had to buy a phone through them. We were
ready to update, so that was not a problem. Now I believe, depending on the age
of your phone, you can use your existing phone.

If you do have to buy one, they do not charge interest if you choose to pay
over time.

We went with the by the gig plan since we do not use a lot of data.

So, it is $12 per gig, and no charge for minutes or texting. Unlimited data is
$45 a month.

We've had no issues.

RE: Braille edge or focus 40 latest generation with Mac and iPhone

2018-08-14 Thread Zhi Huang
Hi Mary:

Although I read about both, I've only used and demonstrated the Focus 14 and 40
4th and 5th generation Braille displays. Personally, the Braille Edge is an
older product to the Focus 5th generation displays. I would either get the
Focus 5th or the q Braille. Some differences between the 2 include:

Storage:

Focus, micro SD, QBraille, standard SD

Connected devices that you can switch among them:

Focus, 5 bluetooth and 1 USB, Q Braille, 6 bluetooth and 1 USB

keyboard layout:

this depends on what you want. Focus requires you to press more of a
combination of keys while the QBraille XL includes separate arrow, function,
and window keys like alt, control, Insert, Etc.

Price:

Last time I read, $300 less for Focus 40.

Here are some links that you might find helpful:

Hi all, and I acknowledge that this has been Cross posted to a couple of lists.
I am interested in hearing from people who have recent experience with the
displays I mentioned in the subject line with a Mac but particularly with
iPhones, iPads etc. I’m also interested in the new device that’s coming out
called the Q braille, but it’s not out yet, so of course nobody can really
comment on it I guess. Of course I know that the focus is particularly well
served by the jaws for windows screen reader, but that is outside the scope of
any of these lists. I’m also interested in the note taking capability and how
easy it might be to get say, bookshare books on and off of the device for
independent use, but I suppose that too is outside the scope of these lists.
Please feel free to reply to me off list about that stuff. What is on point is
the stability of the Bluetooth connection, and the overall feel of the keyboard
at Cetera, and the out of the box key assignments.

RE: going through the process of unlocking a phone

2018-08-07 Thread Zhi Huang
Hi Sieghard:

After reading the article and calling, and talking to Comcast and Verizon, I
know it should work, but truth is, I just have to ask, is it worth all the
trouble, and would it even accomplish the task in the end. To top things off,
Comcast currently has a deal until September 30 where you can get an iPhone8
256GB for $700, the same price for the iPhone8 64GB model. Since my wife's
iPhone 6 is dying quickly and she has to travel soon, we thought about this.
However, when we get there we get this stuff about limited supply and how they
only have the 64GB for $700. The guy then has the nerve to ask, DO you need
all that storage? I told him, since the 256 model is $150 off, do you need
$150?
Truth is Comcast has the best deal. $12 per GB of Data and $2 per line for
unlimited talk and text for Internet subscribers. My wife and I only use 1 to
2 GB between us so monthly bill would be $16 for 1 GB to $40 even if we used 3
GB. Problem is, it's not worth all the trouble if it probably won't happen
anyway.

unlocked iPhone 5S he wanted to add and it worked, but still at the store they
told him they couldn't do it. Maybe at a different store it would be different,
but there are probably other good deals out there and my attitude here would be
that if they don't want my business and monthly payment possibly for years to
come then I go elsewhere and I would possibly go further and remove any other
services from them if I had any.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hello,

One solution to this would be to get a friend or family member's comcast sim,
put it in your AT iPhone, go back to the comcast store and show them very
directly that it indeed does work absolutely fine?

I should mention that I purchased an unlocked iPhone 7 from Apple that I have
been using with ATT. Yesterday, I went to Comcast who has good deals for
xfinity customers price wise using Verizon networks. However, after checking
my serial and Imei numbers, I did not make the switch because they insisted and
made all kinds of excuses about how my iPhone 7 cannot be transferred and how I
need to get a new phone with them. I called Verizon directly to see what they
say and same old excuses. Both Comcast and Verizon are saying this is a
specific problem with ATT iPhone 7's. That is after I insisted that the phone
is unlocked but they are saying it’s the specific configuration after I chose
to use the phone with ATT. I checked with Apple and they are saying that my
phone is unlocked and that I could try to get them to put in a Verizon sim
card, but Comcast and Verizon won't budge. I googled this and got the
following poast that pretty much shares my experiences:

Anna, we're getting ready to unlock our t-mobile phones. A person at the
t-mobile store told us if we have another iphone on a different network other
than t-mobile, that if you were to take the sim card out of that other
network's phone, and put it into the phone you want to unlock, it would pop up
some messages with the promps to unlock it. Here's some more information, with
t-mobile, if you buy a phone from them, pay cash for the phone in full, it will
still come with the phone locked so you would still have to unlock the phone,
but if you could buy this same iphone from apple it would come unlocked. We
don't know this from any actual experience but verizon phones, claim all their
phones are unlocked, and a person from oneof the corprid verizon store said
the phones being unlocked has been going on for about 4 years. One thing about
it, if you put another sim card from another carrier that phone and it works,
than you would know the phone is unlocked. We don't know about at about this,
but we suggest you could ask at, and we hope you get an honest answer. I
would say to ask more than one individual at at, I would ask both, someone in
one of your city's corprid at stores, and also you could ask the customer
service when you call on the phone. If your phone is completely paid for we
suggest you get it unlocked soon.
Before ending this message, we just called verizon and at According to the
customer service person from the at customer service number, she said the
phones were locked, but to find out for sure there's 2 things you could do
besides calling the store. With your imei number you could call either the at
customer service or call the store and they should be able to tell you. The
second way to check with your imei number is to search for an imei checker. One
of the results for an imei checker I found was to check and see if one's imei
number was on t-mobile. There's probably imei checkers for all the carriers.
Let us know what you find out, Anna, and possibly someone knows a bit more.

Hi all,

Is there a way to find out whether a phone is unlocked or not? I bought mine
from Apple last fall, specifying AT as the carrier. It's an iPhone X. I seem
to remember hearing that these phones came unlocked, but I'm not sure.
I'd rather not have to do the restore from backup if it's not necessary.

Best,
Anna
