RE: wireless charging

2020-06-15 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi. A couple of curiosity questions about wireless charging.

1.

. Does using wireless charging use more or less electricity than plugging in
a power cord to charge an iPhone?

2.Are there any risks of receiving an electric shock while touching the
charge pad if your hands are damp?

Thanks.

Hi,

Can someone tell me which IPhones can be wirelessly charged or maybe it would
be easier to list the older phones that cannot? Can the new SE2020 use a
wireless charger?

Thanks.

How can I sync my Outlook 2010 contacts that are on my computer to my new iPhone 8?

2017-12-01 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 5 to an iPhone 8. I want to copy my
contacts from Outlook 2010 to my new iPhone 8 contacts. But when I tried to
sync my Outlook 2010 contacts using iTunes 12.7.1.14, none of my Outlook
2010 contacts are copied to my iPhone.

I open iTunes, then activate the iPhone button, then tab to the summary tab,
and then arrow down to the Info tab. Then I tab to the sync button just
after contacts and press enter or space. Then I tab to the main sync button
and press enter or space. I hear the tone that syncing is complete, but I
have no contacts on the phone. After I tab to the sync button for contacts
the next tab takes me to a button that tells me that my contacts are being
synced to my iPhone over the air from iCloud. But the only thing I have
ever done with iCloud is create an id

I will appreciate any assistance you can offer.

Mike

RE: Convince me guys IOS or no IOS

The reasons Android phones can be different is because they are running
different versions of Android. The same is true for iphones using different
releases of IOS. There are a lot of differences how things are done between
IOS 7 and IOS 10.

And as someone already stated, all Androids are different, all iPhones are all
the same, so each time you switch from one Android device to another, you have
to learn how that particular device works, you don't have that problem with
iDevices.

I have used both and prefer IOS to android. Yes, they are more expensive, but
so much easier to use. I loathe Talk Back, it is more frustrating for me. I
tried using an Android tablet and an Android phone and hated both of them. It

RE: MYSMS

2017-05-03 Thread Mike O'Brien

Hi

You don’t need an app to send a text message from a computer to a Phone
. The capability of emailing a text message to a phone has been available for
some time. Of course the text message rules about length etc. still apply. To
send an email as text message from a computer to a phone, address the email to
complete-phone-mumber@carior-suffix. For example, to email a text message to a
Verizon.com phone for phone number (123) 456-7890 use an address of
1234567...@vtext.com. Note that some carriers have different suffixes for
plain text messages and mms messages with media such as pictures attached. You
can find a list of the carrier suffixes to use at

 Uninstalling iTunes

 Steps

1.Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel.

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software

 1.iTunes
 2.Apple Software Update
 3.Apple Mobile Device Support
 4.Bonjour
5.Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)

Don't uninstall these components in a different order, or only
uninstall some of them. Doing so might have unintended affects.

Confusion over syncing outlook contacts

2014-06-18 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

I'm setting up a new iPhone 5C running IOS 7.1.1 for my wife. I have seen
messages on this list, and read in the Getting Started with the iPhone NBP
book you must use iCloud with the iCloud Control Pannel to sync contacts
from the computer to the phone. I have set up the phone to use iCloud, but
I do not have the iCloud Control Pannel. But when I was in the phone
settings and on the Info tab of iTunes 11.2, there is a setting to sync
contacts. So I checked it and then synced the phone. After syncing, it
appears that all of the Outlook contacts are now on the phone. Can anyone
clarify?

I backup my iPhone 5 to my computer using iTunes. So when I connect the
iphone to my computer, iTunes starts and automatically backs up the phone.
I like to create an encrypted backup for both security and it will backup
email passwords. So my first question is if I do an encrypted backup, are
the subsequent automatic backups also encrypted. If not is there any way to
make the automatic backups encrypted. My second question, is there a way to
keep multiple backups in Itunes. When I go to device preferences , I only
ever see the latest backup.

Thanks.

RE: Syncing an iPhone on a different computer?

2013-09-05 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

Thanks for your reply. But when you said you can sync your device with as
many computers as you own, were you referring to syncing with iTunes or
iCloud? I am syncing with iTunes, and when I told iTunes to sync, I Got the
following warning, from which I ran away quickly.

The iPhone Mike's iPhone is synced with another iTunes library.
Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?
An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and
syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this
iTunes

So back to my question, can an iPhone be synced to theoriginal iTunes
library on another computer?

Thanks

 Hi

I know that you are only supposed to sync an iPhone with a single iTunes.
But, my main Windows 7 computer where I sync the phone is awaiting a new
hard drive. So, can I safely copy a backup if the iTunes library to
 another
Windows XP computer , point iTunes to that library, and then sync the
 phone
on that computer? Is there anything else that would need to be copied to
 the second computer?

 Thanks.

At Bat and mlb.com

2013-07-28 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

I thought I had read on this list several months ago that if you had a
mlb.com account, you could listen to games on the iPhone without purchasing
a separate At Bat subscription. I have had a mlb.com subscription for as
long as it has been around. So I downloaded and installed At bat, read the
help, and did the steps to create an user id and password using my mlb.com
user id and password. I just installed the update to At Bat this morning.
So when I open At Bat, and double tap login, it asks me to log in using my
mlb.com user id and password. When I enter the user id and password and
double tap the log in or go button, it tells me you don't have access to
this feature, see inapp purchases. To be able to listen to games on both
the iPhone and the pc, do you have to purchase subscriptions to both
services, or can you do this only purchasing one. If you can do this using
only one, which one would that be.

Thanks.

RE: gmail and email list question

Hi

As has been said, that's the default for gMail. But if you want to see your
own messages, edit your account settings and put recent: (that's recent
followed by a colon) right before your gMail user name. You will then
receive a copy of every message you send through gMail.

RE: iPhone cases with belt clip and rubber shell - was - Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?

2013-06-05 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

When I got my iPhone 5 several months ago, I found the MiniSuit Clipster
Combo Case with Kick Stand + Holster Belt Clip for Apple iPhone 5 (ATT,
Verizon, Sprint and Unlocked Models)- Black on amazon.com. It sells for
about $10. It is a hard shell that covers the back and the edges of the
iphone. It is not bulky, and when you put it into the holster for the belt
clip, the screen is also covered. There are also openings in the back left
side, top and bottom to reveal the lense, buttons and ports. But
unfortunately, I think it only comes in black. You can find it at:

Hi, unfortunately I don't know of other cases other than Otter Box and
Griffin cases which have belt clips. Also, those are the thicker cases If
you want something which doesn't add too much bulk I would be surprised if
it came with a belt clip. However with all that, I could be wrong.

Sendero is the company that developed the navigation component of MobileGeo.
They say they will be demonstrating their new Seeing Eye GPS application for

am assuming that this is the same App that is being discussed in this

Hi Kawal,

That sounds very nice, but who is this company and from where do you get the
information?

the first quarter of our new financial year is a rather vague time frame.
If their financial year follows the calendar then do they mean it will be
out by March (in 4 or 6 weeks) or will it be out a year from now?

Until I find out a bit more this doesn't get me very excited, but I
certainly would be if I knew something with a full feature set similar to
MobileGeo was on the 4-6 months horizon. Of course it would be nice to know
if they already have a price range in mind.

I did various google searches on Sat Nav Solution and Satellite
Navigation Solution combined with Sendero and iPhone and found nothing
other than Sendero LookAround and a few references to the Sendero/Seeing-Eye
project.

We are working with Sendero to create a best-in- class Sat Nav
solution that will bring support to blind and partially sighted users.
This will result in more confident pedestrian navigation, links to new
map data that currently isn't available in mainstream propositions, and
seamless integration with transport services. The first version of the
